Hi, need help from the sangat please..

Recently (2months back) I had a major argument with a friend (lives on my road too!) and since that day, he has never forgiven me. He puts it down to many reasons, which i find very minimal and minute between two good friends.

Were both guys, hes 18 and im 20. We've known each other for 8+ years and became very good friends about 4 years back.

However, i am also very unforgiving to others, and have blocked people out of my life before. Can i put this down to karma?

I didnt think it would matter if we didnt talk, and i have tried again and again to get him to talk to me, but it seems this was the last straw between us.. Even though we spent days together, and was at each others houses all the time, and even knew each others parents very well, its such a shame in this world that this happens. It saddens me, as i really thought we would be friends for life.

Is there anyone with similar stories, or help, to what i should do? What does Sikhi tell me to do in this situation.

Never thought, as a guy, that i would be heartbroken by a friend, its unbelievable!

I don't know if they are in our blood but I agree with your sentiment. Someone in another thread pointed the disgraceful abuse of lower castes and Biharis by Sikhs in the Panjab. This includes verbally, physical and sexual abuse. Maybe we should start by shining light there?

I do agree with what you say, and totally agree that it is unacceptable and an utter disgrace. But, you put your finger on such a small topic that is WRONG and the work of a FEW. We should not forget this but we should not reflect the wrong doings of a few and project them on a whole population.

Agreed, this is something that needs to be addressed, but why focus entirely on a RELATIVLY small issue, when we have such larger and more widespread topics that effects our WHOLE population?

This happens alot in society in general, we continue to magnify the small issues when we have the biggest issues ignored and disregarded. I think its a technique used by people who are above us in the hierachy, they teach us to do this, so that their biggest crimes against us are never mentioned or addressed.

Beautiful an very inspiring post. We need to teach the youth these stories and truths from a very early age. Sometimes, what happens is, that the intimate details are missed out. So youth simply remember, Muslims came to kill us and we killed them. Which is true but this breeds alot of hate and prejudism against Muslims. We should teach how our ancestors hated NOBODY, and fighted out of justice and in belief of what was morally right.

The astonishing courage and good values of our ancestors seem incredible, what those same morals and values are in our blood. We need to bring these out and ask for forgiveness from all the years of ignoring and going against our MOST BASIC VALUES.

Just goes to show that the indian government is just as guilty as any other murderous nation like america these days, absolute murderers in my eyes. No justice, no apology, just further indications that sikhs are oppressed, just like millions of other innocent people in the world, ie Palastinians in gaza.

World is a horrible place to live in, in this day and age.

NEW DELHI, India (CNN) -- A journalist hurled a shoe at the Indian home minister, apparently in anger over his Congress party fielding a leader who had been accused of leading anti-Sikh riots in New Delhi in the aftermath of the assassination of Indira Gandhi in 1984.

Security personnel caught hold of the journalist, identified as Jarnail Singh, and took him into custody after the incident, which happened as Home Minister P. Chidambaram held a news conference in New Delhi.

Singh was later let off without charge, Delhi police spokesman Rajan Bhagat said.

The journalist had hurled the shoe when the minister refused to comment on his party nominating Jagdish Tytler, a lawmaker from the Congress party.

it's always a difficult time to trust... because the world is maya di khel, and everyone around us (including you, including me) is in it for personal gain.. Let's be honest, if you weren't in it for personal gain, then you wouldn't shut people out over extremely petty issues.

But the ability to forgive is not a skill.. it's a blessing. Some of us have been blessed with the ability to forgive.. some of us have not... Professor Puran Singh says that a true Guru Ka Sikh is that person who acts like the shade of a large tree... anyone seeking solace and shelter away from the "Jagat Jalanda" can come in contact of a true GurSikh, and can be sheltered from Maya di Agg. The shade doesn't prefer any one person over the next... any person desiring that cooling comfort in this desert of life should be able to come to a Gursikh and feel relief

We can only pray and ask for the blessing... And try to make it happen in daily life too.. If you understand that you've cut someone out over ridiculously petty issues, then try to re-open that relationship/friendship/whatever word you use. I have in the past realised and have been taught that forgivness, like love, is a blessing that we some are given and some are not. Through spiritual and righeous way we are able to seek this tool, that will give us help fix certain aspects of our lives.

But there is one point that i wish to discuss further, you say that cutting people out has personal gain. This is true in the sense that our negative energy and emotions are irradicated, and our lives can become more focused upon righteous things that are important. Do you not agree? Meaning this sense of personal gain is beneficial and wouldnt go against sikhi?

Its just, sometimes when you have so many bad experiences that have accumilated, one gives up.

As you say, the world is maya de kehl, and especially in this day and age we must be both loving and forgiving, but very careful upon who we let into our lives.

On it a number of muslims preach hate and also trick sikhs into believing a number of things concerning the sgpc and islam. I think everyone should take note of what they say and how they put the twisted points across. Including the fact many say they preach tolerance and peace, only to put sikhism down in comparison to islam. If any of you decide that you actually want to prove them wrong, i'll warn you that they post quotes from gurbani and will use a number of methods to try and make you look ignorant of sikhi.

Hi there,

I feel quite guilty on talking about a personal dilema when the world cries out for help on more important issues, so il keep it brief.

Im quite young, but over the years i have been cutting people out of my life for good, because of reasons where i felt insecure in the friendship/relationship.

However, these reasons have become more and more tedious (example, I stopped talking to friends whom i was very close with, becuase of very minor arguments and disagreements!)

How can i find it within me to forgive people and learn to move on? I feel as though the world being in its current state, its hard to believe in anybody and so i've just "trained" myself, to completly cut people out

But i have a feeling this may come back to hurt me, and i think it already has

What guidence from a SIKHI prospective can people suggest? What does Gurbani teach us about trusting people?
