  3. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Vaar 16 - Pauri 12 Pauri 12 (Holy congregation, the abode of truth) The Lord is beyond taste and words; how can His ineffable story be told by tongue? He being beyond praise and slander does not come in the periphery of telling and hearing. He is beyond smell and touch and the nose, and the breath is also wonder-struck but cannot know Him. He is away from any varna and symbolism and is even beyond the sight of concentration. Without any prop He resides in the grandeur of earth and sky. Holy congregation is the abode of truth where through the word of the Guru, the formless Lord is recognised. Whole of this creation is sacrifice unto the Creator. Translation By Dr Jodh Singh Ji

  5. Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!! gurmukh pyare jio waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh! are you a medical doctor? if yes, how do you prescribe medicine to your patients? is this how you do it? "take one tablet three times a day after/before food". i read about a sikh doctor who calls his patients 'waheguru ji', and his prescription is, "take one tablet after your morning nitname but before your breakfast, one in the afternoon having read 1 paath of japji sahib, and one tablet in the evening after your sodar rehraas and after your food". he also has print outs of short readable articles from sikh related yahoogroups lying around in his waiting room. patients are free to pick up one and read, or take it home. so inspiring, is it not? just think through and see how you can incorporate this idea in your own working situation. guru raakhaa. source: mail from jasminder. _________________
  6. Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!! The following is a reality that every Sikh household needs to recognize. If Sikhs do on follow the way of of Guru, if Sikhs do no teach their children the greatness of Sikhi, if Sikhs are more concerned about aquiring worldy wealth, watching Hindi movies, doing bhangra, diluting Sikhi to fit their "modern" or "western" needs, we will suffer the consequences. We have families that allow daughters to cut hair but make their sons have turbans, and we dare to ask why our sisters/daughters our marrying out of their religion? The truth of the matter is that these girls who run away with a muslim guy or hindu guy for that matter, never had Sikhi to begin with. Though Sikhs have increased in quantity, we have almost lost all of our quality. The beauty of being a Sardar or Sardarni is not understood or taught by parents. We should learn from the Muslims and how they never forget to teach their kids about Islam, we should teach our children the beauty and bliss in being a Sikh. We need to put pride of being a real Sikh (Amritdhari) back in the every Sikh household. "Larki Punjaban" should be a wake up call to all those parents who allow their kids to be "modern" and leave Sikhi, these parents are the ones who are sufferning the reality of "Larki Punjaban." Parents are happy to see their kids become modern, they are happy to see their kids speak in English, Parents take their kids for hair cuts, parents encourage their kids to go to parties and never encourage going to the Gurdwara, Parents want their kids to be c lose as possible to the western culture and we are shocked and offended by "Larki Punjaban," why? An average Punjabi Sikh can name 10 Hindi movie actors but can't name the 10 Sikh Gurus. In the world of today speaking Punjabi is considered "low class," or as not fitting in, to leave a flowing beard in any professional setting is considered odd, people are afraid or ashamed (sadly to say) of being Guru's children. I don't know what is the answer to all of these problems our nation is facing, I can say that if we ever want to get any where, we need to become Guru's children. We need to give all of ourself to Guru. We need to offer our head without any hesitation. We need become role models for the those who have none, and most importantly we need to do Ardas. We need to beg our Guru for his support, we need to beg for Sikhi from Him. We need to beg for help. Ardas is ultimately all we have. So I request from all of you, my sisters and brothers, everytime you bow your head in front of Guru, ask only for the gift of Sikhi, ask for a nation in which Sikhi and Sikhs can live freely. 9. fateh jio, it was in my mail box frm long time back. i hav saved this as its really interesting. hope it will help ur question. Q!Are all the 5Ks compulsory and equal in importance? SS - ( Absolutely YES ) AS - yes, all the 5Ks are compulsory and equally important. not just for amritdharies, but for ALL sikhs. Q2. Wearing of 3Ks (Kirpan, khenga and khera) in miniature form in a necklace, is it correct andpermitted? SS - ( For an Amritdhari Sikh this is not acceptable, although some ignorant persons may stick to this undesirable practice.More over this is a mockery of the stipulated Rehat. However for Kirpan, it could be of any reasonable size in a standard sheath). AS - No it is not correct, and not accepted practice, to wear the kakkaars in miniature form around the neck as a piece of jewellery. they make up the external uniform of a sikh that confers responsibility on a sikh to strive for 'khalsa ji kay bol baalay' and 'sarbat dha bhalaa'. as a saint-soldier, a sikh's uniform must be visible to others, and he/she must wear it with pride. Q3. Generally the sikh community tend to give paramount importance to only one of the Ks that is uncut hair and neglect the other 4 Ks. So much so if one does not have this paramount K (uncut hair) he/she would be branded as an outcaste, belittled, cursed and ostracised and many good samaritans (withor without the 5Ks) would offer advise to him/her to repent. However, when one has only the paramount K (uncut hair) and not the other 4 Ks everybody seems not bothered and offer no advise and he/she is not cursed, belittled, ostracised and most surprisingly this category of persons can even qualify to hold important positions in Sikh Associations and perform sewa/kirtan and give lectures in Gurdwaras. Why? SS - ( This is true for a non-Amritdhari Sikh, but not for a Khalsa). AS - the 'anomaly' that you mention above is not because Kesh is considered a 'paramount' kakaar compared to the other four. it is because 'removal of kesh' is one of the 4 Taboos. a sikh who disrespects her/his kesh is a 'patit', ie fallen from grace. hence the general concern of 'good samaritans' to rehabilitate him/her. Q4. To be exemplery to others, since the 5Ks can be seen physically, would it be proper that only sikhs with 5Ks be allowed to perform sewa /kirtan /lecture and hold important positions in Sikhs Associations and Gurdawaras and for samelans all participants/officals/facilitators be required to have the 5Ks? SS - (According to general practice in the above situations, a person as Keshdhari Gursikh but non-Amritdhari is acceptable, provided there is no stipulation to be an Amritdhari). AS - the sikh reht maryada stipulates who can do what seva in the gurdwara. as far as sikh associations are concerned, their constitutions provide guidance. personally, it would be good if all sikhs wear the 5Ks. however, since not all sikhs do, i would abide by the SRM. where this is silent, i would err on the side of inclusion instead of exclusion. i have worked, and still do, with many sikhs who do not have some of the 5Ks. they are sikhs as per the defination of the SRM, and i am happy to have them as volunteers on the projects that i am involved in over the years. without me saying a word, many of them have progressed spiritually not only to wear the 5Ks, but to recieve the khande-dhi-pahul on their own initiative. and they have become very good role models. Q5. Is it correct to categorise sikhs into two groups ie with 5Ks (Poora) and with 4Ks and below (Adhura) and a Poora may not necessarily be a poora if he/she does not practise, perform good deeds and other requirements and a Adhura will always remain a Adhura even if he/she performs all the requirements? SS - (This is a very important question. There is no "Poora" or "Adhura" Sikh in the absence of principles laid down in Sikhi - Kirt Karni, Wand Chhakna & Naam Japna with practicing the same . In short names of Panj Piaras stand as pillars of Sikhi towards principles - eg. DAYA, DHARM, MOHKAM, SAHIB & HIMAT. Without good deeds & principles even AmritdhariKhalsa can be called a 'pakhandi') AS - Let us not create new categories to divide the community. bhull chukk maaf karni. -------------
  10. The following was posted on www.tapoban.org phorum by the Admin. I think it will be added to literature section soon. ********************* Author: Admin Date: 05-07-03 22:00 The issue of keskee being a kakaar can be addressed from two different angles. The first being historical and the second being purely logical. Historical: The most convincing evidence that Keskee was given as a kakaar at first amrit sinchaar comes from the Guru Keeaan Sakheean. These are records from Bhatts, or poets who recorded events. This is the most authentic record of what happened. These Guru Keean Sakheean were published by Piara Singh Padam. The following is a great link about these puraatan writings, dated around 1708: http://www.sikhreview.org/march2001/chronicle.htm Some of the most convincing passages read like this: "Assigning the word Singh first to his own name and thence to the names of all the Five Chosen Sikhs, Guru ji called out Fateh (the victory salutation) and raised aloud the spirited chant of Sat Sri Akal. "Thereafter, Guru ji pronounced, 'on your rebirth in the Khalsa Panth, your previous lineage, caste, creed, calling, customs, beliefs and superstitions, etc. stand annulled from now onwards. Transforming you into the Order of Khalsa, I have endowed you with the apparel of the Almighty God, you shall have to keep its honour. Before administering this nectar of steel, I also bestowed you with five kakaars (Ks, i.e. defining emblems). You have neverto keep them away from your body even by mistake. I gave you, at the start, a blue keski, kan gha, kirpan, sarbloh ka kara and white kachhehra. In the event of the loss or misplacement of any of these, get its infringement pardoned in the Sangat by going to Gurdwara without any delay." Another account by a different bhatt in the same records reads: "Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Tenth Guru, son of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, in the year Seventeen Hundred Fifty Two, on Tuesday - the Vaisakhi day - gave Khande-Ki-Pahul to Five Sikhs and surnamed them as Singhs. First Daya RamSopti, Khatri resident of Lahore stood up. Then Mohkam Chand Calico Printer of Dawarka; Sahib Chand Barber of Zafrabad city; Dharam Chand Jawanda Jat of Hastnapur; Himmat Chand Water Carrier of Jagannath stood up one after the other. All were dressed in blue and he himself also dressed the same way. Huqqah, Halaal, Hajaamat, Haraam, Tikka, Janeyu, Dhoti, were prohibited. Socialization with the descendants of Prithi chand (Meenay), followers of Dhirmal and Ram Rai, clean shaven people and Masands was prohibited. All were given Kangha, Karad (***Karad is synonomous with kirpaan***), KESGI, Kada and Kachhehra. All were made Keshadhari. Everyone's place of birth was told to be Patna, of residence as Anandpur. Rest, Guru's deeds are known only to the Satguru. Say Guru! Guru! Guru! Guru will help everywhere." In the story of how Satguru Gobind Singh jee iniated Baba Banda Singh Bahadur in the puraatan Guru Keeaan Sakheean, it is written that Guru jee himself tied a "keskee" on his head. Other rehitnamas such as Bh. Daya Singh insist that all Sikhs should wear dastaar, but the Bhat Vehis leave no doubt that Keskee is a kakaar. A Version of the Bhai Chaupa Singh rehitnama also contains the famous lines "kachh kaRa kirpaan kangha keskee, eh panj kakaaree rehit dhaaray, sikh soee". The interesting feature of the rehitnamas however is that they themselves acknowledge that they are not authoritative and complete sources for rehit. In more than one rehitnama you'll find a disclaimer that the complete rehit is that which was given by the punj pyaaray, the one written is just a supplement. Not any of the authoritative rehitnamas actually give a list of the "five kakaars". This is only found in the puraatan Bhatt Vehis. It's often brought up that Guru Gobind Singh jee himself has written of kes as a kakaar in the Kabul hukumnama. It can't be stressed enough that the Kabul Hukumnama is universally considered a fake. It does not follow the traditional hukumnama format. It does not contain the nishaan of Satguru Gobind Singh at the top nor a personal message by him. The hand writing is clearly not by Guru Saahib and contains only the writing of a scribe. But in all traditional hukumnamas, the top portion always contains a message and manglacharan by the Guru in his own hand to authenticate the hukumnama. Dr. Ganda Singh has collected all the historical hukumnamas in his book "Hukumnamey" and he does not include this hukumnama in that book, due to it being a blatant fake. This hukumnama has come into prominence in recent years only. A Second point that is often brought up is that Guru Saahib in Dasam Granth has written of kes as kakaar in the shabad "nishanay sikhee...". It is important to understand that this shabad is not considered part of the body of Dasam Granth. It was not added by Bhai Mani Singh and is not contained in puraatan saroops. In present day saroops of Dasam Granth it is included in the last pages but as an Appendix. The numbering at the top of those pages is done in Gurmukhi letters to indicate that they are an appendix and not part of the body. The Shabad in question appears on the appendix "gugga". Analysis of the language used and the date this shabad started to appearmake it clear that it is a later addition. Overall, the historical writings leave no doubt that Keskee is a kakaar. In fact, wherever the term "kakaar" ha s been found in historical writings, keskee is listed as one. Logical: No jathebandee in the Panth today can deny that women and men in Gurmat have equal rights and responsibilities. If men must wear a dastaar and keskee, then women also must do so. All are Khalsa, no Khalsee exists. No Singh can receive amrit with braided hair or bun at the back of the head, so why can a Bibi? There is complete equality. Khalsa is beyond gender and hence, all rehits and kurehits are the same for all Khalsa. 2ndly, all the kakaars are external. The Guru has bestowed the Kakaars to the Sikh during amrit sinchaar. Guru Saahib did not bestow kesh. These are naturally occuring on most humans. The panj pyaaray can dress the abhilaakhee in all kakaars but cannot give the abhilaakhee Kesh. In the Banda Singh Bahadur story in the Bhatt Vehis, Guru Gobind Singh himself dresses Banda in the Kakaars and the story makes a point of saying how keskee is tied by Guru Saahib. Kesh thus is a naturally occuring thing, not something bestowed during amrit sinchaar. If kesh is a kakaar, then why the need to say "don't cut kesh" as a bujjer kurehit? If I must keep the kesh, then obviously I cannot cut them. If a Sikh removes any kakaar, he must appear before the Punj Pyaaray and receive a tankhah but is not considered a patit and amrit is not re-administered. If a Sikh cuts the Kesh, s/he is bujjer kur ehitee, patit and must be re-initiated into the Khalsa. Thus it is clear that kesh cannot be a kakaar. Kesh are not a kakaar, but much above kakaars. To maintain kesh, two kakaars are given: kangha and keskee. Thus, even logically looking at the evidence, Kesh clearly cannot be a kakaar. During the early 1800s a rot set into the Sikh community where many old principle and rehits were lost. Many enemies of the Panth encouraged the abolition of fundamental rehits. At this time Sikh women stopped receiving khanday kee paahul (and in some jathas/places ie. Hazoor Saahib they sti llreceive Kirpaan Kee Paahul, not Khanday kee). Women stopped wearing Kachheras and keskee also was lost. In 1900s, there was a big struggle to make kacherras mandatory again for women and the re-popularising of Khanday kee Paahul. Some women had remained strict in rehit in some places and some jathas, but it was rare. The rehit of keskee was maintained even at the Akal Takhat for women till 1930 until the Jathedar, Gurmukh Singh Mussafir removed this condition. There has been significant improvement from the dark days of the 1800s and pre-Singh Sabha, but unfortunately the whole Panth has not embraced Keskee as a kakaar yet. Hopefully in the near future, just as women were restored the right to receive Amrit and keep other kakaars, they too will be restored the kakaar of Keskee. With this, we encourage all other seekers to read the article in the "Gurmat" section on Keskee. We, as was mentioned earlier, will not entertain any debate on keskee as all that needs to be said has now been said.

  12. The mind of a true warrior (a WarriorSaint) is different from that of most other humans. In fact, it even differs from the mind of any usual soldier or fighter. A true warrior is free from all worldly attachments. Any possessions are known to be temporary. Attachment leads to weakness within the warrior. The true warrior understands that the life he/she lives is temporary and attachment to even being a warrior is a weakness that will fail him/her ultimately. The only attachment the warrior has is to God, who is ever-present alongside the true warrior, both in life and after death. A true warrior would not seek to harm innocent and defenceless humans or animals, even for his/her own survival, since the true warrior values the creation of God and does not seek to suppress or scare other beings. Hence, a true warrior is compassionate and mindful at all times. A true warrior does not slander others or lay down challenges to satisfy his/her ego. A true warrior thinks of him/herself as a servant of God, a protector of His creation and a willing sacrifice to God's law of righteousness when called upon to serve Him. A true warrior practices good deeds at all times, helping those that need help and serving God's true devotees. The warrior seeks to become a true devotee of God, above all else. The true warrior harbours no malice or hatred for any being. The true warrior does not see people as friends or enemies, but as souls, which are a part of God. The true warrior harbours only love and respect for all beings, whether they be friendly towards him/her or not. The true warrior is often soft-spoken and meditative. A true warrior has no desires. He/ she is motivated by the love of God only. The warrior is careful not to consume things that will render his/her mind unreliably weak, unfocussed or addicted. The true warrior is not concerned with outwardly appearances - he/she often may not seem to be a warrior at all. The true warrior spends most of his/her time in training the mind and uplifting the soul, as opposed to physical techniques. The true warrior understands that outwardly appearances are of no use on the battlefield, but the state of one's mind and spirit is everything. The true warrior fights only when the right to life or dignity for any being is challenged. Even in battle, the warrior is merciful upon his/her opponent - not seeking to humiliate or defeat the opposing forces, but only to defend against their ill-conceived and dishonest attacks. In battle, the true warrior does not worry about the past or the future, but concentrates on the present moment. The true warrior fights relentlessly, without the heavy weights of fear, pride and arrogance. The warrior seeks only to be a tool of God in battle. Victory always belongs with God, not the warrior, who is simply a servant of God.
  13. A Story on Guru Ji's Darshan In the time of Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Jee, there was a Gursikh who lived in a poor little hut. This Gursikh was blind and had a lot of Pyaar for Guru Ji. As he couldn't travel anywhere he would ask people to go to see Guru Ji and then wait for there return to hear of Guru Jis well being. He would ask them what does my Guru Ji look like, How brave is he, what weapons does he keep, what stories does he tell, and each would reply "I cannot explain with words." One night he could not sleep, he kept thinking of Guru Ji and how wonderful he was. He longed so much to see the beautiful Mukh of Guru Maharaaj. He could not take it any longer he felt angered at himself. "Guru Ji, I am such a dirty sinner, I am unworthy of your darshan. I do not know what countless sins I have committed for me to suffer without you." At this moment Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji awoke from his Samadhi, he told some Sikhs to get the horses ready as he had to go somewhere urgently. The blind Gursikh started to cry, he felt angry at himself for being blind, he tore his hut apart throwing things and cursing himself. he wanted to kill himself. He wanted too go to see Guru Ji. He ran out of the hut and just ran into the misty dark distance. he tripped and fell , he hurt himself pretty badly. he was bleeding. he started to cry and thought only of Guru Ji. "Guru Ji, Guru Ji! Guru Ji! Guru Ji! Guru Ji! Guru Ji!" he cried continuously calling out for Guru Ji. Suddenly he felt two strong arms lift him to his feet, and he heard a beautiful strong voice "I have come my beloved" "Guru Ji, i s it really you, but how come you have come" This is what Guru Ji said..."Beloved, I could not sleep without doing your darshan, I felt your heart pulling me towards you and I could not survive" When the Blind Sikh heard this he fell to Guru Jis feet and cried so much he could not contain himself. Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji again lifted him and said "the home of Guru Nanak Contains everything ask of it what you will" The Sikh replied "Guru Ji all that I ask of is, that my eyes may work so I can do your Darshan" Guru Ji smiled and kissed both of his eyes. When the Sikh opened his eyes he again fell to Guru Ji's feet on seeing him and could not help himself and could only cry. he wept at Guru Jis feet and kept doing his Darshan. He could not even imagined such a beautiful guru. he just kept staring at Guru Ji. Guru Jee then said "beloved I must go now, it is amrit vela and the Sangat will be waiting" the Sikh begged Guru Ji to stay longer... "Guru ji, I cannot live without your Darshan now, what will I do" Guru Ji Smiled again and said "the house of Guru Nanak again offers what you ask of it, one more thing" The Sikh fell to the floor in dandaut, stretched out with arms towards Guru Ji and said "Guru Ji if you are going to give me one more thing then take these eyes away as I wish not to see anything ever again besides your darshan." A tear dropped down Guru Ji's cheek as he granted the final wish. JOU PRANI JAL BIN HA MARTA, TEO SIKH GUR BIN MARR JAYEE JUST AS THE MORTAL DIES WITHOUT WATER, SO DOES THE SIKH DIE WITHOUT THE GURU.

  15. Taan Sain was the best musician in Emperor Akbar's court. Each evening he would sing for the Emperor who was a lover of the arts and would greatly appreciate the musician. He would shower many gifts and praises onto the musician. One evening, after a particularly beautiful performance by the musician, the Emperor called Taan Sain to his palace and said, "Today you overwhelmed me. While I was listening to you sing, a thought occurred to me and that thought was that you are the best musician on this Earth. But as soon as that thought had trespassed my mind, I thought about the great teacher who must have taught you must also be great. That's the reason I asked for you. Pray tell me, who is your teacher and how can he or she come to this court to perform for the Kingdom." Taan Sain smiled and said, "Sire, my teacher is full of wonders. But I know him enough to tell you that he will not come to this court." The Emperor said, "Of course we will do his seva quite handsomely..." Taan Sain, "With due respect, Sire, no amount of seva will bring my teacher to your court." This greatly intrigued the Emperor, "Surely there is a way that I could listen to your teacher sing. If he will not come here, perhaps we can go to him." Taan Sain again smiled, "Sire, my teacher is carefree and he might not like us going to him." Emperor, "But surely, my good man, there must be a way." Taan Sain thought a while and said, "Well, there is one way. My teacher usually sings in the early mornings by the Ganga River. If the Raja insists, then we must be discreet and hide nearby and listen to him at that time." The Emperor was a spiritual man and he did wake up at early hours of the morning anyway, so he arranged for them to be taken to a place where Taan Sain's teacher bathed and sang. Both the Emperor and Taan Sain reached the river bank at 1 am and hid in nearby bushes. As was the daily routine of Taan Sain's teacher, he came to the river at 1.30 am, bathed and sat on the river bank and sang. His song was so great that it completely mesmerized the Emperor. The Emperor could not speak or move, and just sat like a stone idol for entire time the teacher sang. Even after the teacher had left, the Emperor had to be nudged from his vismad smadhi by Taan Sain. The Emperor half dreamily walked back to the carriage which had brought them to the river bank. The Emperor remained in vismad for the whole ride back and indeed, the whole day. After that evening's performance, the Emperor summoned Taan Sain to his palace again and said, "Taan Sain, your teacher is wonder itself. I am very, very curious at one thing. I love your singing but if you wouldn't mind, I would request you answer one question." Taan Sain, "Sire, please ask this servant any question." The Emperor, "With much due respect, I thought that you were the best on this Earth, but your teacher far surpresses you. I do not wish to offend you in any way, but please tell me how is this possible that your teacher's talent is eons deeper than yours?" Taan Sain laughed and said, "Rajan, I perform for you, he performs for God." ------------------------------------------ Meri pyare guru jee dee pyari pyari sakhiooos, Taan Sain performed for worldly people. His teacher performed for Waheguru. Taan Sain's song was like a rose. His teacher's song was like a bed of freshly-blossomed and fragrance-laden roses dancing in the wind. Taan Sain performed for worldly people. His teacher performed for Waheguru. At the hour that our overwhelmingly-loving guru calls "Amrit Vela" we perform for Waheguru. No one else. There is no doubt that when we do seva and sing keertan at the gurudwara, we do it sincerely and with faith. But I will tell, my friends, there is always a hint of humai (ego) hidden in our actions. When we do good keertan, we wait for someone to say, "Wah, Wah." But at the time that our overwhelming-ras-filled guru calls "Amrit Vela", there is no one there except guru. Only guru, pyareo, guru. Then we please the guru and the guru only. The guru loves us then. The guru then has the chance to splash us with the guru's overflowing maddening prem, love, ras and jot. The time that our very own father, mother and overwhelmingly unconditionally-loving guru calls "Amrit Vela" is the beginning of sikhi. It is the beginning of our path to the guru's warm and sukh- sagar bosom. Pyareoo, make that leap. Start Amrit Vela naam simran TODAY and feel the essence of sikhi and the guru blossoming inside your heart. Pyareooo, do ardas for everyone that all sikhsangat sakhis may start Amrit Vela simran TODAY. Do not delay. It is "now" or never. waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru..........
  16. The love program! Daina Ramchandani Customer: Well, I'm not very technical, but I think I'm ready to install it now. What do I do first? Tech Support: The first step is to open your HEART. Have you located your HEART, ma'am? Customer: Yes, I have, but there are several other programs running right now. Is it okay to install while they are running? Tech Support: What programs are running, ma'am? Customer: Let's see... I have PAST-HURT.EXE, LOW-ESTEEM.EXE, GRUDGE.EXE, and RESENTMENT.COM running now. Tech Support: No problem. LOVE will gradually erase PAST-HURT.EXE from your current operating system. It may remain in your permanent memory, but it will no longer disrupt other programs. LOVE will eventually overwrite LOW-ESTEEM.EXE with a module of its own called HIGH-ESTEEM.EXE. However, you have to completely turn off GRUDGE.EXE and RESENTMENT.COM. Those programs prevent LOVE from being properly installed. Can you turn those off, ma'am? Customer: I don't know how to turn them off. Can you tell me how? Tech Support: My pleasure. Go to your Start menu and invoke FORGIVENESS.EXE. Do this as many times as necessary until it's erased the programs you don't want. Customer: Okay, now LOVE has started installing itself automatically. Is that normal? Tech Support: Yes. You should receive a message that says it will reinstall for the life of your HEART. Do you see that message? Customer: Yes, I do. Is it completely installed? Tech Support: Yes, but remember that you have only the base program. You need to begin connecting to other HEARTs in order to get t he upgrades. Customer: Oops. I have an error message already. What should I do? Tech Support: What does the message say? Customer: It says "ERROR 412-PROGRAM NOT RUN ON INTERNAL COMPONENTS." What does that mean? Tech Support: Don't worry, ma'am, that's a common problem. It means that the LOVE program is set up to run on external HEARTs but has not yet been run on your HEART. It is one of those complicated programming things, but in non-technical terms it means you have to "LOVE" your own machine before it can "LOVE" others. Customer: So what should I do? Tech Support: Can you pull down the directory called "SELF-ACCEPTANCE"? Customer: Yes, I have it. Tech Support: Excellent. You're getting good at this. Now, click on the following files and then copy them to the "MYHEART" directory: FORGIVE-SELF.DOC, REALIZE-WORTH.TXT, and ACKNOWLEDGE-LIMITATIONS.DOC. The system will overwrite any conflicting files and begin patching any faulty programming. Also, you need to delete SELF-CRITIC.EXE from all directories, and then empty your recycle bin afterwards to make sure it is completely gone and never comes back. Customer: Got it. Hey! My HEART is filling up with new files. SMILE.MPG is playing on my monitor right now and it shows that PEACE.EXE, and CONTENTMENT.COM are copying themselves all over my HEART. Is this normal? Tech Support: Sometimes. For others it takes a while, but eventually everything gets downloaded at the proper time. So, LOVE is installed and running. You should be able to handle it from here. Ah, one more thing. Customer: Yes? Tech Support: LOVE is freeware. Be sure to give it and its various modules to everybody you meet. They will in turn share it with other people and they will return some similarly cool modules back to you. Customer: I will! Thanks for your help!

  18. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh This article provides some historical background and information related to the Damdami Taksal. The purpose of this article to not to put one taksal ahead of other, but to set the record straight and provide some historical persepctive to topic being dicussed. The word Sikh means a student (of the Guru). Ever since the time of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the Sikhs have been learning from the Gurus and the Bani of the Gurus. Long before Guru Gobind Singh established the Khalsa Panth, he sent some Sikhs to Kashi, an ancient learning center of the Hindus to study Sanskrit, other religions and languages. Those Nirmalas were the religious scholars who help spread Sikhism to a great extent. They were quite influential in converting Hindus and other people into Sikhism. They were also taught by the the Tenth Guru. They lost their old influence almost 100 years ago. Some of them even today posses deep and immense knowledge of Sikhi which is beyond the reach of many Sikh scholars. The Tenth Guru personally taught 48 or so students. Many of them started various learning centers (taksals or seminaries). Bhai Mani Singh was one of them. So was Shahid Baba Deep Singh. Bhai Mani Singh was the most promiment of Guru's students and senior to Baba Deep Singh as the latter was his assistant who helped in preparing the paper, ink and "kalams," etc. We all know Bhai Mani Singh was the scribe of Guru Granth Sahib. Baba Deep Singh made four copies of the same Guru Granth Sahib. The orginal is lost. What we see in our homes and Gurdwaras is a copy of the same Guru Granth Sahib was copied by Baba Deep Singh W hen Guru Gobind Singh left for South, he directed Baba Deep Singh to stay behind and take care of the Damadam Sahib Gurdwara and preach Sikhi. The fact is Baba Deep Singh NEVER went to South with the Guru. If someone is telling you otherwise, this is a PURE LIE unless someone can produce a genuine historical evidence (not something written by a shardhavan, but illiterate person). I have noticed that an effort is being made to twist the Sikh history by some vested interests. Bhai Mani Singh is said to have accompanied the Tenth Guru to the South, but even he was sent back by the Guru from Baghaur to take care of Sri Harimander Sahib and other Panthic matters. The Taksal, as we know it, was actually started by the Sikhs of the Guru. No doubt the Guru had blessed Damdama Sahib and had made a prophecy that some day many Sikhs will study at this place and become Gyanis and learned. This has proved to be true. Baba Deep Singh was a very learned man and he taught Sikhi to many people. He fought battles with the Mughols alongside with Baba Banda Singh Bahadur and he was the founder of the Misl Shahidan. He achieved martordom at Sri Amritsar while fighting the mughol forces. The Singhs of Shahidi Misl were famous for fighitng in the forefront and achieving martyrdom. It was due to their bravery that they established Misl Shahidan. After Baba Deep Singh's martyrdom, some of his relatives took possesion of the Gurdwara and eventually became corrupt Mahants like Mahant Narainu of Nanakana Sahib. Their purpose was not to preach Sikhi, but to collect offerings from the Sangat and offer nothing in return. After few generations all sort of evil things started to happen right at the holy site. So much so that the Damdama Sahib Gurdwara was given as part of the dowry to one of the daughters of the Sardars who "owned" it. It was situated in the state of Patiala. Many Sikhs had complained by the wrong deeds committed by the custodians of this sacred place. Keeping in mind the religious significance o f this place, the Akalis were trying since 1930s to bring this under the control of the SGPC, but the Maharaja of Patiala did not let it happen because he was anti-Akali and did not want their influence in his area It was only in the 1960s (after the influence of the Maharaja was gone after his state was also annexed to India) that it was recognized as the 5th Takhat after the SGPC approved a life-time pension for the custodian of the Talwandi Sabo Gurdwara. It was at that time it came under the control of SGPC. Sant Harchand Singh Longowal was its first Jathedar. Almost all the branches of Damdami Taksal are actully the branches of the same Taksal that was started by Bhai Mani Singh. Baba Deep Singh was certainly a link in the same "Sampaerdayee Prampra," but that link ended shortly after his martyrdom, but Bhai Mani Singh's "Sampaerdayee Prampra" continues to this date. Bhai Mani Singh had 29 members of his family who achieved martyrdom for the Panth. Here is the list family member of Bhai Mani Singh who achieved martyrdom: 1. His grandfather Bhai Ballo Ji, during the time of Guru Hargobind Sahib 2. Eleven brothers 3. Seven sons 4. Ten grandsons 5. Bhai Mani Singh Shahid himself According to Jathedar Kirpal Singh (former student of Taksal and former Jathedar of Sri Akal Takhat Sahib), the Bhindranwali Taksal is one of main branches of the same Taskal that was started by Bhai Mani Singh. Of course, it was a "Sampaerdayee Prampra" or school of interpreration of Guru Granth Sahib that was started by the Tenth Guru. The Taksal at Sato Ki Gali (Amritsar run by Sant Makhan Singh) traces its origin to Bhai Mani Singh who was taught by Guru Gobind Singh himself. Bhai Vir Singh, a great Sikh scholar was also the product of this Taksal. So were Sant Amir Singh and Sant Kirpal Singh. Baba Bishan Singh Muralewale was a student of Bhai Mani Singh's Taksal. His dera is now in Begowal (which was moved from Pakistan, now run by Bibi Jagir Kaur, former presidnet of SGPC) . His student was Sant Sunder Singh who started the Bhindran Taksal. His student was Sant Gurbachan Singh Khalsa, and his student was Sant Kartar Singh and his student was Baba Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. This Taksal is known as "Bhindranwale Gianian Di Taksal." Sant Sunder Singh preached Sikhi far and wide in Punjab. There seems to be no trace of Bhindran Taksal before Sant Sunder Singh. There are several branches of Damdami Taksal at this time: 1. Satowali Gali Taksal, Amritsar 2. Damdami Taksal Bhindran, Bhinder Kala 3. Damdami Taksal Mehta, Gurdaspur 4. Taksal at Talwandi Sabo (Damdam Sahib) that has Gurmat college and a technical college I think there are probably few other branches in Gurdaspur and some other places. There are some other Taksals as well: 1. Jawaddi Kalan Taksal (started by late Baba Sucha Singh Jawaddi) 2. Nanaksar Taksal near Ludhiana Bhai Mani Singh's family is one of the greatest shahid family in the Sikh history. The fact is the current Taksal owes more to Bhai Mani Singh than to Baba Deep Singh because his line of succession ended pretty after him. In conclusion, the Taksal has several branches. The main Taksal where most of the scholarly work is done at Satowali Gali in Amritsar. It has also produced Teekas of Guru Granth Sahib by Sant Kirpal Singh and Bhai Vir Singh. Bhai Vir Singh did not complete the Teeka. He died before he could complete it. However, he has done real solid work in teaching Gurmat and writing about Gurmat. Even Giani Kirpal Singh (former Jathedar of Sri Akal Takhat who was killed by some misguided Singhs was a well-respected scholar and had produced some books of great significance. He was a student of Sant Gurbachan Singh Khalsa. The Sato Ki Gali Taksal has produced a significant amount of relgious literature. Gur Fateh
  19. In this age of fast and electronic communications, I would like to know what links do the S.G.P.C. and the different Takhats in India and all the Gurdwaras in India as well as abroad have? What I would like to know is whether all of them as stated above have been hooked up in a common server so that whatever decisions or mattas or hukumnamas are issued by the S.G.P.C. or the Akal Takhat are sent across to all through the net or the computer technology. For this to take place , all of them have to have a computer set in their premises or Gurdwaras so that the same is communicated with the Sikh masses all over the world. Take for example the case of the implementation of the Nanakshahi calendar. Reports were available that there was confusion in many towns and many observed the martyrdom day of Guru Arjun Singh Ji on the 6th of June instead of the 16th June as per the NanakShahi calendar. Why was this confusion in the first place? The possible reason is that the Gurdwaras all over the world were not intimated about this and I am yet to receive the said calendar from our local Gurdwaras . The general public or the Sikhs are fully entitled to rceive the hukumnamas or mattas which are the concern of all Sikhs and once the computers are installed , then printouts of same can be taken out and handed over to the sangat attending the Gurdwaras. This, however, is the need of the day and the benefits will be tremendous. Probably the networking could be done in a phased manner: - (i) By setting up a full fledged Secretariat at Akal Takhat Sahib and small Sectts. at all the Takhats; < br>(ii) Connecting all the Takhats through computers; (iii) Linking all the Gurdwaras of the world with the Takhats Trying to be on the path of Sikhi, singh khalistan da post ur views.
