  1. Vahiguroo Jee Kaa Khalsaa Vahiguroo Jee Kee Fatehh After recent events in UK we would like to urge all Sikhs to ensure they report cases of hate crime and abuse of anysort to the police. It is important for people to report abuse and threats to the Police. Please Ensure that the Police record it as a racist offence, and describe yourself as a Sikh under the ethnic group monitoring category, so that the Police can keep records for Sikh victims. Please ensure you dollow the advise above otherwise the Police will say there is no problem, there have been no reports, and Sikhs are not having problems. There are a number of means of getting from these airports to Imperial College, including suburban trains, underground trains (the Tube) and buses. Taxis are another, but more expensive option. Express shuttle trains run from the major London airports into the capital's mainline railway stations. The Stansted Express runs into Liverpool Street Station, the Heathrow Express terminates at London Paddington Station whilst the Gatwick Express terminates at London Victoria Station. In each case take the Circle Line Underground to South Kensington. It is also possible to take the District Line from Paddington and Victoria Stations but not from Liverpool Street. Thameslink Railways also run trains from Gatwick Airport (cheaper than the Express) and you simply get off at Blackfriars Station and take the Circle or District Underground Lines (west) to South Kensington Tube Station. The Piccadilly Underground Line (around 50 minutes) offers one of the cheapest routes into London from Heathrow Airport and goes direct to South Kensington. Buses run from the airports into Victoria Coach Station, across the road from Victoria Railway Station. Take the Circle or District Line just two stops west from there to South Kensington or take a taxi. To get to Imperial College from the tube station see below. Arriving by Train Details of routes, timetables as well as online ticket purchasing are located via the UK Railways on the Net and National Rail websites. The National Rail site is arguably more comprehensive with links to several different sites for timetables, booking and useful travel link information. Most of the relevant rail stations are conveniently on the Circle or District Lines but from Waterloo Station take the Jubilee Line one stop north to Westminster and then the Circle or District Lines four stops west to South Kensington. Arriving by Bus National Express operate a network of buses between all major cities in Great Britain and information on the bus network, including timetables and online booking facilities are available at the National Express website (or telephone +44-(0)875 808080). Getting around London The easiest way to get around London is via the extensive London Underground system, but there are also extensive bus services to all parts of London. Pick up information and route maps at the Underground Stations or at Imperial College reception. Imperial College Campus The Symposium will be held at the South Kensington Campus of Imperial College. A map showing the location of the campus in South Kensington is available here. The meeting will take place in the Sir Alexander Fleming Building (No. 5 on the Campus map). Registration will take place at the conference desk immediately outside the lecture theatre from 10:30am on Wednesday 5th April 2006. The conference desk will be open for the duration.

  9. Amu (U.K. premiere) Shonali Bose—India—2005—102m—35mm—drama In English, Bengali, Hindi and Punjabi with English subtitles AMU begins with the everyday dilemmas of a young Indian-American, Kaju, returning to the "foreignness" of her Indian homeland. Like an approaching thunderstorm, the film gathers a potent political charge as Kaju begins to question her past and realizes how her own privileged life in America was born out of communal violence in India. After Prime Minister Gandhi was assassinated by Sikh bodyguards in 1984, carnage erupted in the streets of Delhi. More than four thousand Sikhs were killed in three days. Writer-director Shonali Bose was a student in Delhi during those days. She worked in the relief camps set up after the massacre, writing down the stories of those who survived. Bose brings to the flashback scenes in AMU the intense impact of first-hand experience. AMU is powered by a sense of outrage still felt today. The film makes a strong case that this massacre was not spontaneous but planned, and depicts politicians and police who were involved but went unpunished. Kaju's questions produce difficult answers that force her to face the truth of India's history - and her own. [For more information on this film's Education Screening, please visit our Special Events page.] Distributor: Emerging Pictures www.emergingpictures.com SHOWTIMES: Friday, 17 March 21.00, Ritzy, filmmaker present (tbc) Sunday, 19 March 18.30, Greenwich Saturday, 25 March 18.30, Clapham Co-presented with Tongues on Fire Film Festival www.tonguesonfire.com

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh. Manmeet Kaur – Akhand Paath Sevadar ==================================================== Soup Run for Homeless Hope you're all well. There will be another soup run taking place in conjunction with the Akhand Path that's being organised by the London Sikh Socs, on Saturday 11th March. The plan is to meet up at Shepherds Bush Gurudwara in the early afternoon to prepare the food, and distributing in the early evening. There are many other organisations doing the same kind of thing, and if we leave late, by the time we get there most of the people out there have already eaten. For those of you who helped with the last soup run, the use of food packs was found to be very useful. Therefore, we're thinking of making up a food bag with a sandwich, crisps and bar of chocolate for example so that it is easier to distribute, than having to faff around with loads of different carrier bags. Also, we felt that it was better to stick to the hot tea as soup gets cold quickly and is not filling. Technically its a tea run then...? You decide. The basic itinery is that we meet at Shepherds Bush Gurudwara at 4 to prepare the food. Ideally we should aim to leave at 6, latest 7.30 because, as mentioned before, we run the risk of colliding with the other organisations at work. We really really need help with preparation, bagging, and most importantly drivers. We need about 2 maybe 3 cars max, depending on the volume of volunteers able to help. Although the areas that we will cover have not been finalised as yet, hopefully I will be able to confirm these tomorrow. If you're up for it then please email any ideas/suggestions/comments please please please let me know, as all your input is both needed and valuable! Anyway, apologies for the essay, thanks guys Fateh Manpreet Kaur – Soup Run Sewadar ==================================================== London Sikh students with Gurseva Project www.gurseva.org is organising a "Soup Run" on Saturday 11th March! If you would like to participate in helping the homeless in London, come to Shepherd's Bush Gurdwara, 62 Queensdale Road, London W11. The nearest tube station is Shepherd's Bush (Central Line). Preparation starts at 4pm until 6pm and will be carried out in the langar hall. We will be making sandwiches and tea, in addition to making food packs to hand out. Please come along and help out! The more people that help, the more get fed! We hope to leave the Gurdwara Sahib at 6.30pm and are looking to feed the homeless in 3 locations: Holborn, Embankment and Trafalgar Sq. Returning to the Gurdwara at about 8pm, where the London Youth Kirtan will have started!! Akhand Paath Timetable FRIDAY 9am – Arambh of the Akhand Paath 5pm – 'Ins and outs' of the Gurdwara, to include Parkaash and Sukhaasan 6.30pm – Rehraas SATURDAY 4-6am – Simran and Nitnem 7-8am – Yoga 2-3pm – Personal Sikhi workshop 4pm – Preperation for 'Soup Run' 6pm – 'Soup Run' to feed the homeless 6.30pm-12am – Rehraas and Kirtan SUNDAY 4-6am – Simran and Nitnem 10am – Bhog of Akhand Paath 10.30-12.30pm – Kirtan 1pm – Langar LANGAR WILL BE SERVED THROUGHOUT, ALONG WITH WORKSHOPS FOR LANGAR AND PARSHAAD PREPARATION www.gurseva.org | THIS EVENT HAS BEEN ORGANISED BY THE STUDENTS FOR THE STUDENTS OF LONDON SIKH SOCIETIES SO PLEASE TRY AND GIVE YOUR DARSHAAN.
