1. Yes, the problem lies in 'Punjabi' culture , that shouldn't be generalised to 'Sikhs'

however i read the post and replies and given alot of thought to the problem the thread is trying to tell us.

and this is not only in punjab , generally in india boys seem to hav this superiority. this is also in china, where these ppl left baby girls on the streets to die or killed them in other horrible ways because they wanted only boys. women are just as much to blame, they are the ones who can make the biggest difference.

    SIkhs are against this.

to solve this issue is to educate ppl and tell them. alot has been done, i have seen some links on this forum im sure which were about this issue.

  2. Right. So what are Sikhs doing about it? Remember, saying that those who do this are not true Sikhs as some people do say is another form of cowardice, because they are sticking their head in the sand and saying it is nothing to do with me, because they are either too ashamed, too lazy, or too cowardly to do anything about it.

When the Gurujis took a stand on the issues like this, they were brave, and they told us to be brave. Now, we would rather not face up to it. This is why I think Sikhs have become cowards, because we allow the killing and persecution of the truly weak take place on a massive scale amongst us.

    156629

What are you doing about it?

iv heard what you mention but its never happened to any of my relatives or anyone i know. but i said they are not true sikhs am i a coward?

  3. Who agrees with me? That Sikhs have become a group of people complicit in the evil amongst us by our inaction and refusal to deal with the large scale abuse, violence and killing of women and girl foetuses?

That we overflow with cowardice, because only cowards persecute and kill girls?

    156625

Sikhs are not cowards, Gur ka Sikh is not a coward or any of the things you mention! the title of your thread annoys me.

  5. when i was little the only reason i was soo happy to go to the gurudwara was to play hide n seek. we used to get told off alot but we used to play in the langar hall and outside the gurudwara.

bout kids crying during ardas the parents should take em out

but we shudnt be going totally mental at the kids like some ppl do

  6. ....can;t comment on this. If you actually go to some of the RS meetings, as I have done...because my family are RS/SIKH....you will see that there is NO ANTI-SIKHISM or ANTI-any other religion taught.

It's stated RS is a spiritual path...much akin to the 3HO practised in the states by Yogi Bhajan.

They teach and recite many bania from GGSJ, as well as other saints such as Kabir etc etc.

They teach that ALL religions have one thing in common...aka GOD...and that religions, in their current form, are made by MAN, and what we need to do is our SIMRAN and LOVE and RESPECT each other.

i thought 3ho was a seperate thing from yogi bhajan teachings, he was a gursikh. .......

  7. rapping ain't too bad but some people in reference to ip album 2 were complaining that the rap lyrics were too militant....

i.e sumit like going to an airport in india with a shooter..

    155247

militant is wat its all about  lol

  8. Gurfateh!!

I strongly recommend that you do not include any rapping in this imortality. i think youl find that the sangat dislikes these tracks the most. i mean like in the first 3, the most lisend 2 1s are the plain old 1s wid d messege, like punjab, n AK47. the rapping takes away the concepty of what its for.... most people who lisen to it end up jus skipping the parts wid all the mc'ing

    155236

sooo true , i agree wiv you , them tracks are the wikidest ones..................anyway keep up the good work guys.......

  9. i think it is probably against sikhi, cos sometimes becos of our past deeds we are destined to suffer in this life, but if we are killed painlessly then that doesnt mean we are gonna escape that suffering, we wud probs have to suffer some other time maybe more or wateva, but thers no way around it apart from naam japna etc

  10. fateh ji

i started with kirtan sohila, everynite before going to bed and thers never any distraction or anything which makes you miss it becos its that last thing you do everyday.

then anand sahib and then japji sahib.

but all equally important, at the gurudwara they say that u shud start with japji, even if it is only one pauri

  11. Sikh Supreme

Sikhs treat women like trash. The treatment of women by Sikh men is disgraceful as it is. Do you not think that Sikh men have attitudes that need to be addressed? Like the domestic violence, honour killings, female foeticide through abortion, the sexism of Sikh families, that kind of thing? Or do you think these things are acceptable?

And besides, what do you want to achieve and how are you going to achieve it? Do you suggest leading a mass campaign to chain women and put them in burqa? Then what is the difference between you and the Taliban?

Thirdly, what were you doing on the site, looking at pictures of girls like that anyway?

Anyone else feel things are going from bad to worse and action needs to be taken?

What action do you suggest taking? I would be interested to hear your ideas on what we can do. Its not that I find their behaviour tasteful, in fact I dislike it, but I am really curious as to what action you are thinking you might take? I also wonder why this kind of thing gets people riled up whilst Sikh men are battering women, murdering them, and aborting girls in the womb every single day, without so much as a whimper from lots of Sikh men.

Also, Sikh men these days carry out unhealthy things, including promiscuity, looking at porn, smoking, drinking. Why single out women for action to be taken when Sikh men are just as bad? Or do you overlook them doing it for some reason?

    154223

these men you talk about are not sikhs.

i don't think you quite grasped what sikh supreme is trying to say. and i doubt he was trying to look at women by going on that site, the first time i found out bout that site was thru an email my friend sent me in hotmail.

sikh supreme im sure does not want to put women in burkas, and does not follow taliban ideaology, the action we cud take is to make youth aware of whats good and bad and educate them.

we shud try to answer the questions set and discuss, ur post was as if u are being quite rude towards sikh supreme

  12. My sister is getting married tomorrow and has asked me to say at few words at the reception on her behalf.

    152006

Dont demean Gurbani by quoting it at a wedding reception.

    152178

as long as there is no meat or alcohol / smoking it shud be ok, but who knows with one quote from one shabad from Gurbani someone might fall in love with sikhi.........

  13. Dear brothers/sisters.

    In my sincere ignorance…. blush.gif   @  wacko.gif

    please do not take offence

I got a cd simran  and I try to listen between 2-6 am cos I’m on night shift, my silly question is can I hear it any other time.?

I normally end up  listening  to it driving home @09:00 or before midnight before my shift… grin.gif

    Any comments will help…

And pls forgive this silly fool for asking. blush.gif

    152112

simran can be done anytime of the day, no matter where you are , and what you doing and for as long as you can

  14. Gur mantar and Gur bani can cure any human disease, if we pray with ful devotion and faith but we are meant to do this anyway. Some things happen for a reason, maybe your meant to die with disease but thats just whats written etc, but when you pray with a one pointed mind, Guru Ji and Akal purakh can work all kinds of 'miracles''.

Never underestimate the power of Gurbani and Aardas.

    Fateh!

  15. That quote from the Rehat Maryada says nothing about disapproving of pictures of the Gurus, it specifically says that bowing / worshipping the pictures is wrong.  It would have to say that if it said that pictures were bad in the first place.

The issue boils down to respect, I think.  By taking a picture that is supposed to represent Guru Nanak and placing cards in the pictures hand to me is similar to someone taking a Khanda and hanging, say, panties from the points.  I would be offended by that disrespect to an obvious Sikh symbol.  That doesn't mean I worship the khanda, or that I am going to worship the khanda.  I just don't like to see it disrespected.

    My two cents,

    Ishna.

    151767

    well said

  16. "You think sri guru gobind singh used this waha bi approach of "lets burn pictures" because people may idol worship those pictures- NO

He instead gave gyan to sangat and told them, purpose behind the art. 68 Poets, artist from different backgrounds in Guru Maharaj darbar is an classic example of Guru Maharaj appreciation towards Arts, calligarphy, poetries."

guru sahib never commissioned paintings of the gurus.  poetry and calligraphy are different.  shabad guru is written in peotry and calligraphy is a form of writing.  I'm not a fanatic sikh, trust me on that one, i'm just not into idol worship as most sikhs are.  you keep mentioning respect, come on man, no one has more respect for idols than hindus, they even give milk to idols.  why does SGGs knock on hindu idols when we have our own idols and proclaim that it is respect and pyaar.  99.99% sikhs bow to pictures.  deny it all you want on the internet.

and i'm sorry but those pics of the gurus are so cartoonish they are ridiculous.  If you respect those pictures so much i bet you that you can pick up the latest indian or punjabi news paper and you can see your guru's picture on one page and half-naked karishma kapoor on the next, what about respect now?

these pictures are worthless.  There are over a billion muslims in the world inspired by the quran, and sikhs like you think these pictures are an inspiration to sikhs.  come on man.

where is the picture of bhagat ravidas, bhaghat kabir or sheikh kabir?  guru arjun dev ji has the most baani in SGGS ji, where is his pic?  we all say the guru's were one jot, well why the pics then?  gurbaani says baani is the saroop of God so what's up with the pics.  I don't believe in a fanatic version of sikhi i just think you believe in the hollow and hypocritical version of sikhi which falls apart in every argument and that is why sikh girls convert to religions with rules which at least are consistent and not self-contradictory.

    151785

most ppl use the pictures for decorative pruposs....theres isnt anything wron with that. the problem is ppl who worship them as u pointed out..........but still i think it is disrespectful that anything related to sikhi in the slightest shud be stuck on a gambling website implying that they are into that kind of thing.......... next time theyl go a step further...........

  17. i met this guy who was a mona and i was givin him a lift hom from the gurudwara n all i heard from him was ...'im into AKJ' , ' im AKJ' , ' Im a AKJ type'.......... i was like u dnt even keep Gurus Roop but he wudnt listen.....he was like 'yeah i know, im akj' ..... like da guy from little britain.

anyway .... thanks for the links!!!
