i read somewhere a while back , i think it was in a paper, where scientists or medical researchers found that meditation is better than sleeping, because when you are meditating your mind is focused on one thing only but when you are asleep your mind is constantly wandering or dreaming so it does not get the smae 'rest' as meditating gives.

So this is why many Gur Sikhs have been able to go without sleep or little sleep.

yea i heard that ppl dont wear it out of respect and think that it is only for Guru Sahib , but we hav guru ji's roop, i think ppl wear it on ocasions like when u get married n stuf.......... i dont think guru ji wud be offended if we wear, it looks gud too, cos by wearing it we arent saying we are better than Guru Ji just for decorative purposes init

but thats just one side of the coin

it wudnt be a good idea.....cos khalistan should be in punjab....... where all our gurudwaras and history has been preserved so that we can protect our identity.......otherwise they wud get destroyed. Also im sure there are other reasons for punjab being the only place...........

if we want to create a khalistan we have to consider getting ahead of the game.

im not as knowlegable as most sikhs so i wont answer everything and iv gota revise for my exam tomorow so i dont hav time lol.........but i do know that our first guru , Guru Nanak Dev Ji distinguished himself from hindus and muslims. he was neither. there are flaws in both of those religions.

secondly the Guru Granth Sahib was the guru after Guru Gobind Singh Ji, it had all the teachings of each Guru. Guru Arjan Dev Ji started compiling it and it was completed by Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

Gobind Rai became Gobind Singh after he was initiated into the Khalsa Panth by the panj piayria. thats why singh is used. anyone who takes amrit takes the name singh.

also Guru Nanak Dev Ji was spreading the word fdirectly from Akal Purak, and was not influenced by any sufi saints . instead the sufis were influenced and drawn towards guru nanak dev ji.

i do not agree with your article, i think u may not hav read gurbani or understood it, as most questions can be answered by reading it . i am even doubting the fact your a sikh becos uv wrote nonsense ...........however bhul chuk di kima

If someone asks you, What does your Guru say about about issues in life (birth, death, love, hate, etc.) Can you give them reference to bani?

General questions:

Can you do parkaash/sukhaasan seva of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji?

Can you lead a congregation/divaan (do ardaas, take hukamnama)?

Can you make degh/Karah parshaad?

Lets reflect on our lives, how can you call yourself a Sikh of the Guru, let alone the light and future of Sikhi if we can't do some of the basic things listed above?

This is just a wake up call. I think we all need one, once in a while.

There are reasons why Guru ji used Gurmukhi, we cannot change the lanuage which has been used, someone who knows more than me ought to tell us why Gurmukhi is important n why Gurbani was written in that lanuage.

Yes translations and katha should be done in both languages so that the youth can understand it also. you do hav a valid point about the granthis needing english, but i think this duty rests more on the gurudwara commitees to do more.

Anyway as a starting point the youth should be taught in english translations and language and then they should learn gurmukhi as they progress? This has been seen happenin with our gora sikhs in usa etc.

As someone else stressed, we dont want punjabi being phased out in the 21st century.

bollywood without naked women just isnt bollywood.

so what ur saying is no one should be allowed to film in Gurdwara Sahib for a bollywood film:D

at some parties all the gursikhs and non drinkers sit in the corner or have ther own sections with ther lil posse lol and they just talk and hav ther own party thing ........anyways

I was just thinking about the whole issue of Khalistan, ppl go on about how they will sacrifice there lives and dont get me wrong i belive that will be the case.

But when the time comes to fight or when the need arises to to protect sikhs, then ppl like me need to really be ready to die.

So i thought maybe we just make a list of things that need to be done before someone would be in a position to give their life.

Top of the list would be to do

Naam Simran

Amritvela - Nitnem, learn gurbani etc and then what wud the other things be?

Also what would be the situation of a person who has given his/her life for a true cause but never actually done enough or much naam simran or read bani or amrit vela.....becos i know that without these things u cannot merge back into vaheguru. So wud that mean we go to the Nataks? do we know anything on these issues? please inspire

yes gud point and its true that we can't accept the gov unless it admits its wrong doings in the past. but are all hindus not to be trusted?

the fundamental aspect of the Khalsa - saint soldier to protect humanity and stand up to any wrong doers. (along the lines)

im not sure if it wud be rite to not act when ther is the loss of innocent lives

ok and i know hardly anyones replied, i duno if thats cuz its a touchy subject and no one wants to give it a go but another question i got is, if Guru Ji was here would they help india?

when my gora mate had a party and got initiated into this thing to protect the city i went with him and i was probs like the first sikh ever ther lol n all the goray were like starting at me and thinkin whats he doing here.

anyway to the point, when we went bk to his house, his family was there and they poured a lil bit of champagne into the glasses and gave it to everyone, n my mate knew i dont touch the stuff n he took my glass to n got me some apple juice lol

then we had this disscussion about alcohol and they said does you religion ban u from alcohol and they said "a lil bit wont get u drunk," "thats wat we are doing just having a lil bit."

but i was like even if Sikhi says dnt drink it i personally chose not to before i was into sikhi, id rather not even hav a bit, becos thats where it starts, if u hav a bit then u cud have a bit more or someone wud say to you its only the once and eventually even ifs its after a year of this one day you wud give in, its like playing with fire, and then wher do u draw the line of whether u drink or not.

take meat for instance (just to get a point over), if someone ate it only at very special occasions then cud u say you dont eat meat?

or drugs?

anyway by the time i left ma mates whole family was drunk and i left.

Its a great thing, the Granthis at our gurudwara dont know much english at all and they have probably doubled the attendance of the youth in the short time that they have been here.

Its the Guru Ji's Kirpa that gets the youth going, these bhais at our gurudwara talk to everyone with such love that they make them feel wanted and always urge them to come again and some young guys i know, started going to the gurudwara just to meet the granthis and ask questions and then next thing u know they are always there.

obviously it's different everywhere and its true about english being needed to get the youth to understand, and i know a while back at our gurudwara like ten years ago the granthis kept themselves to themselves probably becos the commitees hav told them i duno but no one really interacted. But some Gursikhs could come here to teach us alot of things about sikhi and they wud be deterred becos they wud hav to learn another language. I suppose its not hard, but we are the the ones who are educated here, and are learning sikhi, its more our job to be the ones who get our bros n sis to follow by example.

thats just my veiw, i aint arguin with anyone, i suport both veiws to an extent, before someone goes mental loll

State ownership would be the best idea because there would be no money greedy companies tricking Khalistanis into spending money and being taken advantage of!

State ownership would provide jobs for everyone and ensure that most of the populations have some type of income apart from the welfare sate.

i know that we wud also hav religion on our side, but luk at russia and the eastern block countries .....capitalist hasnt really worked well

If they want to make films in Gurudwaras i think its a great idea...............maybe we shud have some rules which the film crews hav to abide by............. such as not disrespecting the Guru Ji , by smoking , shoes , not covering head etc etc then the film shoud be within limits e.g half naked women n Guru ji shud not be in the same film thats my personal veiw tho.

but i can see this is not gna be feasible.........maybe sikhs should make their own films and that way we can do it correctly

maybe u cud hav went to the part any got everyone to go to the gurudwara and do simran and seva ..............highly unlikely but the thought of it .............

I've got a question which is based on a scenario which might even happen in the future. So before i start, i don't want ppl saying its a bad question cos it'l never happen or something, i just wana know your ansa.

If india was attacked, and was being invaded, and like all wars innocent people were being killed along with civillians who are fighting for their country and obv the india army and india looked like it was losing.

Would you (or we as sikhs) fight along with the rest of india and protect this country? (in the similar way Guru Teghbhadur Ji sacrificed himself?)

Or would we try to negotiate with the invaders to get our independance or even negotiate with india to give us independance if we fought for india in return?

Also consider what might the invaders treat us like if they won.....would we be discriminated, would we still have to fight to get our khalistan, could we trust them? and would they terrorise indian ppl who survived and treat them badly. Becos as sikhs we wud not be able to allow this and wud then have to have another war.
