  1. Thank you for that. One might ask why we, as Sikhs, are not so stringent in our criticism towards our very own dear Punjab Police?

Very true. Sikhs now surely knew of the Punjab police brutality for many many years. Now on this issue, I have seen some Amritdhari Singhs going after Pakhand babas and Sikh youth doing one of the bujjar kurehat and I am happy that they are doing it but they way they record themselves cussing and bashing shows what the hell is going on over there not just with the police but even our own Khalsa over there. Lets hope this kind of mess gets cleaned up in the future.

  2. Once the gurdwara's were known as centre's for learning for Sikhi and for sikh political activism.

Nowadays they are known for money hungry gurdwara corrupt committee's selling out Sikhi to profit on a range of promoting anti-sikh activities.

    • Allowing of Anand karaj's with non-sikh partners
    • annual budget spent on making gurdwara's bigger, or more decorated or party halls made to serve meat and sharab and music. Rather than much needed parchar for local sangat
    • Allowing other religions (ie hinduism) to use the gurdwara for their own preaching and promotion at the expense of Sikhi parchar.
    • Beadhi of Guru ji and lack of care or protection for saroops
    • Beadhi by hot headed morons fighting within gurdwara's if you disagree with someone's political or religious viewpoint speech. So no one wants to discuss anything controversial and the panth is stuck where it has been for past years.

There needs to be a clean up of this mess and fast. But it all starts with liberating the the sri akal takht sahib whose authority has been weakened by badal and his cronies and in turn the gurdwara committee's around the world around not obeying any commandants the jathedhar makes.

Sikh youth need to wake up. Our elders have made gurdwaras but haven't made that next step with educating sangat. I really believe sangat should stand up and talk about the bad issues of gurdwara committees. I really believe gurdwaras are a place where people just listen to kirtan, don't apply any teachings or don't even learn anything, eat langar, and go back to their original life. The big pocket-money Singhs need to get kicked out and allow real sevadaars to take over. Your right we have to look where is the main core of the problem and that directs back to akal takht. So your right on that point. Akal takht has weak authority over gurdwaras overboard. They said no anand karaj for non sikhs but gurdwaras go on and do it. What can Akal Takht do about it send Singhs over? We have to deal with it ourselves.

  3. theres not much youth going there anyway because the committee doesn't really care, lol

I never use to want to go there either but then I tell myself that if the committee isn't to my liking doesn't mean I should abandon the Guru!

That's so true, the ardas in the gurdwaras is seen as a money making scheme and ritual!

the problem is with bad experience at the gurdwara I just have this horrible feeling everytime I stand to do ardas! I automatically feel tired, stressed and annoyed, I know I might sound as if im over reacting but this is like every sunday where the ardas goes on for like an extra 10 mins :(

:) that's true but I think I should change the ardas I do as in maybe make it informal because I remember we use to say an ardas at our sunday Punjabi school when I was young, it was really short and cute but unfortunately I cant remember beyond the first line lol...... is that allowed though? to have your own ardas structure????

hahahha the god sent uncle jiiiii :D

I mean people do have little words changed in ardas but overall there is no big change in the original structure. I mean God already knows deep in your hear what you want. You just say with your mouth in front of GGS what you want to make it clear. In my gurdwara people pay to get their names mentioned in ardas which I totally disagree.

  4. Dear saadh sangat ji

I've begun to hate doing an Ardas and its all down to these money making gurdwaras.

The gurdwara I go to is so annoying the Ardas is sooooo long.

All the time is taken announcing peoples donations! It got so bad that people have even begun announcing their £2.50 donations!!!!!

I know the gurdwara is new and still only half built so they need to collect all the money they can but still its not very fair!

So now even when i'm at home after doing my paath I cannot bare doing an Ardas, I know I should but I cannot bring myself to stand up and do it! Now I've also got this terrible habit now of having a wondering mind whilst doing the Ardas!

I've tried so much but I just cannot motivate myself :(

Even at other Gurdwaras where the Ardas is short I'm just always hoping my family get up before the Ardas starts!

Ardaas is a beauty to recite especially when you know what is being said in ardaas it keeps you motivated to be a Sikh. Well to me it does heh. Ignore when gurdwaras do like 5 min offering ardaas for irrelevant thngs. Just keep motivated and do a ardas. Always stay in Chardi Kala!

  5. sounds like my childhood , just walking around doing my thing with quickfire questions from all sides , it was challenging but I was lucky I was switched on to Sikhi and also other Dharams so I enjoyed smiling and sharing Sikhi and Guru ji with the different Non-sikh folks , they were always so grateful 'you're the first sikh girl to answer my questions they usually ignore me or say I don't know' I would apologise for the lapse and offer to answer what I could and to be straight when I didn't know (rarely). Religious education classes the other kids would ask me questions or to explain more about other faiths we were studying instead of the teacher cos He just had a script to follow. People really WANT to know us and what makes us tick.

I agree our girls are not invested in , in terms of sikhi, punjabi literature, languages, gatka, gurbani ucharan anything ....why?

Because HIndu dowry system devalues our girls , Guru Gobind Singh ji said to us, He who asks for dowry is not my Sikh. Pity greed is highermost in people's mind than Guru's bachan:' jab eh gahe bipraan ki reet , ma na karoon in ki partit.'

so the girl's family only concentrate on their boys and nuturing their sikhi because 'she's gonna get married and nobody wants to have amritdhari DIL it's no point teaching her this stuff, she'll only make life harder for herself in her in-laws'

I have had friends who are amritdhari and been told off for doing their bania by their in-laws ...why are people so thick? If your DIL is dharmic your grandkids will be Sikhs and also do their bania and have true faith in Guru ji.

As the gurudwarey are full of fools trying to increase their own image rather than serving the sangat's needs we need to show our younger brothers and sisters the online resources , there is now so much english content teaching itihas, doing katha, teaching gurmukhi, even discussing raag kirtan terminology on youtube and other websites. If the parents wont do it we can ...

I can tell by Basics of Sikhi that UK sikh youth are stepping up and taking notice of the issues and are trying to change the future (example Tera Panth Vasse). The problem is different everywhere for Sikhs. Sikhs are spread out everywhere in the world but in small numbers. Leaving to a minimum number of Sikh youth to stand up for change in the Panth. For example I am currently the only Sikh youth in my city whos Amritdhari who is trying to do something in my gurdwara but is being ignored. Now Sikh numbers are spread out everywhere. In UK you guys have big Sikh communities that can actually make a change. In America, things are different here of the Sikh youth. Most are not interested and don't believe in change. So we are in a deep hole situation.

I really think its not only the Hindu dowry system but this Punjabi culture influence on girls today like caste system. Punjabi mothers still carry their nonsense stuff today in western countries. But I believe that modern societal values is why Sikh girls don't feel comfortable with the dastaar look on guys. Many Sikh girls I know go to school with barely any Sikhs. So their perception of looking for a guy will rarely be a GurSikh. This happens to many Sikh girls who just keep their hair too. This is why gurdwaras have to change like you said to use resources and variety amount of tools to get them educated in Sikhi and not just learning Sikhi but also doing seva with each other. That way that can make a sangat strong as steel.

Bhai Jugraj Singh even said this statement that 75% SIkhs don't care about Sikhi they may go to gurdwara but thats about it. Then there are 20% or so that keep hair and may be slightly educated in Sikhi or just keep hair because of parents. Then 5% are Amritdhari Sikhs who are affiliated with Nihangs,Taksalis, or AKJ. These percentages may be quite off but to the point Jugraj Singh was trying to make is that those 5% are trying to recruit from 20%. Who is targetting the 75%? You see were are missing out on the majority. The Khalsa has to inspire rest of the Panth. Unfortunately, Khalsa needs to be waken.

Back on the topic, Now another thing related to Kaurs is that those Kaurs in the 20% can go either way. They can cut their hair or become amritdhari. We all know whats happening today is that most Kaurs in that category are choosing to cut their hair and not take Sikhi seriously at all. Over here in America, pretty rare to see Sikh girls chak amrit. Also the Singhs in that category especially today are going towards the 75% due to bullying, racial discrimination, and thinking that no Sikh girls find GurSikh munda attractive. They are many Sikhs who are strong as steel but it shows that majority are going the wrong way.

  6. Maybe we all need to do parchaar of what we are and why we are all the places we go, if someone asks us questions . It can be easier if we start using the pamphlets produced by 'Basics of Sikhi' team here in UK (check out their channel on youtube ) they even have translated it to French, Spanish, Brasilian Portuguese and other languages just download print off the double sided, three fold colourful leaflets. They even did one for 30th anniversary of 1984

People are amazed when they are taught Sikhi by me when talking one on one with them. They never have the chance to learn from school etc. So parchar is needed. American gurdwaras are not doing it because committees have different meaningless agendas but parchar should be #1 up there. So that's the source of that problem. Back on topic, our own girls need to get education in Sikhi because many are not interested because in their early ages they weren' t taught right and given too much freedom and are now ending up taking alcohol, drugs, and etc.... I mean if I look at UK past these years, I to myself question why aren't UK Sikhs teaching those girls who came to gurdwara but then get targeted by Muslims in clubs etc... Gurdwaras need to change PERIOD. It needs to focus on the youth and elder too and parchar should be added. Sikh youth need to change the status quo of gurdwaras. We shouldn't be scared of the elder Sikhs who are absolutely leaving a mess for the next generation. Hopefully Tera Panth Vasse can change the future for the better.

  7. Ok maybe then America is more like it was when I was younger than I thought ... But surely the Vaisakhi celebrations in the White House/Pentagon got onto national news this year? We knew about it here in the UK

Yeha, its all politics. It is good raising awareness but those people working in WH and Pentagon know what Sikhi is. There is no targeting for American public for what Sikhi is all about. We do have Sikh Coalition and SALDEF but the major perspective view on a turban is still the same as from post 9/11 era. Even the SIkh gurdwara shooting that took place in Oak Creek had a little change......

  8. Satshriakal.

    I am Benz from Indonesia.

I am Buddhist Confucianist from small, but I make friends with a lot of Sikh Punjabi and Sindhi.

Sometimes I visit Gurdwara Perbandhak near my home, I feel so comfortable and somewhat calm.

The Gurdwara Perbandhak is located beside Shri Mariamman Temple (Hindu Tamil Temple).

In radius 200 metres, there are so many temples again, 2 Tamil Moslem Mosque, 6 Churches, 2 Buddhist and Confuianist Temples, 1 Tamil Buddhist Temple, and 2 Tamil Hindu temples.

I have visited them all, but I really love the condition in Buddhist and Sikh Temples.

The Gurdwara Perbandhak was established at about 1881 by Sikh Punjabis who was brought by England.

And the Shri Mariamman Hindu Temple at the right side of Gurdwara, was established at 1884.

There's a Punjabi school, Khalsa, at the left side of Gurdwara, but it has closed due to nationalization.

It'll be open soon next year.

In my city, there are 4 Gurdwaras and about 40 Hindu Temples (usually established by Tamils, Telugus, and Malayalees).

As far as I am concern, Sikh and Buddhism are simple and practical religions.

Buddhism believes no God, and the source of this galaxy is unidentified, because it can't be reached out by our small brain.

Karma law exists itself, neither created nor perished, and all beings depend on the karma law.

Buddha didn't create this karma law, but he just found it and taught us about this eternal law.

So is Sikhism. Sikhism believe in reincarnation and karma law.

But the difference is just at the theory of "Creator".

Sikhism believes that Karma, reincarnation, and any anything are created by Lord Almighty (Pantheistic).

Different from Buddhism that Karma is not created, but appeared itself as eternal law. The source of karma and the beginning of life are unidentified.

If there is any false, please forgive me, and tell me the right.

    Merbhani..

True, Sikhi stresses more on seva and kirat too. Every Sikh is supposed to live a sant-sipahi lifestyle. You meditate and work and you also defend others and protect the weak. Very different aspect from every religion especially Buddhism. But if your born into a Sikh family definitely should look into depth of Gurbani before choosing another path.

  9. I am female wear a dastaar and I have been known to openly admire strangers' dastaars no matter what culture , funny story I used to see a young African lady every morning on my bus to work when I was 17 man she has such a pristine dastaar my heart would lift when I would see her. Finally after a couple of months I sat next to her and got up the courage to ask her ...'hi am Jasbir I was wondering if you are also a Sikh ? she looked a bit surprised then replied 'sorry no I am African' 'that's OK I just wanted to tell you I think your turban is always beautiful and I admire it' thankfully by that time it was my stop so the crazy sikh girl could make an elegant exit by flashing her a smile and stepping out ....

I openly admire my sons' hair and dastaars, discuss different looks, techniques and encourage them to love every part of themselves as Guru's gift, they have messy days but that's OK at least they are still in there trying to improve and find their style. Even Isher has days when she'll decide to wear a dastaar for the day and that's cool ...she has to have it exactly like the ones she sees online i.e. a dumalla. It's not a push thing she's free to choose.

It is easier now to be accepted cos more people know about sikhism as it is more visible in the media and our own panthic efforts so I don't agree with that sentiment you need to be more brave now than then.

I disagree Sikhism is more visible in the media and our panthic efforts so far have no made a major change. Your from UK so I'm talking America perspective.

  10. No! make them accepted at home they will feel self-acceptance then and it won't matter what happens outside, I used to be bullied by boys and girls physically in gangs at junior school after having to walk alone past the gangs of skinheads that used to hang around the council estate I lived on and being jeered and sworn at even spat at . But instead of crumpling and giving in I kicked back against it all, my Perfect Guru didn't make a mistake in making me a sikh . That is the steel of Khanda inside ...

Many Sikh guys and girls don't have the courage and bravery you do to go through the pressure and bullying these days. I respect you for sticking with yourself and being strong as steel. Its people like you who need to encourage others in our community. But many Sikh guys simply feel outcasted in society. It is a big problem but isn't talked about barely. Back on the topic, when have you ever heard a Sikh girl give good compliments to a Sikh guy for wearing a dastaar.....Rarely Never................shows how much media and everyday environment can affect one's attitude towards imagery.

  11. Veer ji ,

it is only rare because we as a panth have made it so , When I had my first child I made a real heart-felt decision that I would create the kind of home environment that I had but better ...

my childhood's background music was kirtan even when Dad and Mum hadn't taken amrit in the early days they would play old LP vinyl records of kirtan whether raagi kirtan or the soundtracks from Nanak Nam Jahaz hai with Mohd. Rafi . Mum was a very spiritual person as was my Nani ji in fact Mum had amrit before marriage from Kaleranwale Sant amrit sanchar, but that was taken away from her in order to marry Dad : she was told 'don't worry you can have amrit again after marriage' . My Nana and Nani ji thought my Dad was worthwhile Because he had moved to the UK and still maintained his dastaar and beard despite that ... so Sikhi Saroop has always had Good connation in my folks.

My Mum would read Bani from her gutka even though Dad wasn't that much into paat, My Dada ji came to visit in 76 and brought Guru ji in senchian for my Dad with the instruction make your life worthwhile do paat. In that following year My Dada ji passed away in a road accident and within the month My eldest Mama also passed ,my Dad got the Naam bug and had Amrit with Mum , we were considered too young still. Then they would take us to programs by bus across London every weekend. Sangat and Sewa is what we gained as Kids that where I learned how to make rotian and samosey etc in the langar kitchens and I saw other gursikhs which made me feel happy and confident in being different.

In the Summer of 79 we were taken to India by my Mum as she was tired of the misinformation about India run on the TV affecting us, that is the first visit I remember of Harmandir Sahib and other Dharmic Asthaan Gurudwarey, of seeing Guru ji's Ladli Fauj - nihangs, of asking questions and having in depth answers back . I asked for books on SIkh Itihas and Gurbani my Mum bought a complete set of books to help me . By November I was fully ready to give my head ...

so if we are willing to help our families to prosper in the true way we can have a strong future

Correct. The key is set a good environment for your kids. Sikh youth today need to feel they are acceptable in society especially when Sikhs are spread out all over the world in such small populations and some big there can be problems for them to grow up having to be in a not so good society. Sikh camps do help but its 1 week only. After that one week, whats the use if the Sikh parents don't practice Sikhi or don't care. You get what I'm saying. Your very correct on setting up a all around environment at home. Sikh at very young age should be put into Sikh studies for their own benefit in their future. Make them strong as steel because they will have to overcome tough obstacles later in life.

Now it all depends on your family. I'd say 50% of Sikh families don't care about doing paat or keeping kesh/dastaar. Now how does that affect the other 50%. In this case, Sikh girls who are brought up with a dad who just keeps dastaar and kesh but doesn't practice Sikhi and has a mom who has cut hair whats the chance of her keeping hair... 25% (I'm just estimating). The chances would be very low. Especially today Sikh girls who keep hair on social media are always listening to gandh music and posting guy models etc... You see it makes them change their look prospectively at Sikh guys. Sikh elders don't understand this. In the future there will be a very uneven ratio of girls to guys leading to more guys getting haircuts because they can't deal with getting a girl. It is actually happening right now as we speak.

  12. wrong ! show your daughters brothers in their own household with sikhi saroop who are caring, helpful to others, hardworking, fun-loving who keep Guru's rehit and I guarantee 100 % she will want to marry a gursikh not a kesh dhari but Khalsa .

My 6 year old informed me in no uncertain terms' i am going to marry an indian' ( as we live in mixed neighbourhood) I asked her what she meant and she pointed at her teenage brothers 'like my brothers with turbans who do waheguru waheguru'. It's not about control its about opening their eyes to how others live . she doesn't want to marry someone who eats meat (that's killing animals mum) or drinks (my in-laws do both) she doesn't want to be like the ladies in the burqas (her school friends mums) she has told 'I'm going to wear a big keshki and have a big kirpan and fight baddies when I grow up ' Her first career choice was to be a power ranger for the same reason (only ever saw the program once in her whole life)

She loves gurbani and will not sleep without I have do it down the phone if I am away at the set time, its about developing preet for Sikhi from when both sexes are babies and keeping that a part of their routine and life.

that's rare today and your lucky to have a kid like that. But for 75% of the Sikh girls today it almost the opposite situation where they aren't getting taught about Sikhi or they are not interested in it because of parents or because of societal values. It is good to bring up Sikhi from a very early age with understanding and not much free will in their hands when they turn teenagers because we know what happens...

  13. Waheguru ji ka khalsa

    Waheguru ji ki fateh

Amrit Sanchaar or the process has evolved over period of time.

It is common sense that Guru Gobind Singh Sahib ji gave Khalsa the long Kirpan (being wartime).

I don't know if the selection process of Punj Piyaras is defined by Guru Sahib or is it a matter of tradition.

If it's tradition then how come married old Singhs are doing Seva of Punj Piyaras.

We all know that Punj Piyaras were young-unmarried Sikhs.

Fact is they never went back to their families after taking Khandey di pahul.

Civilian life is very different from that of Armed forces so those willing to sacrifice should follow this path.

Lastly, Sikhs need young leaders/volunteers to serve the Panth.

    Old incompetent ones must retire.

    Waheguru ji ka khalsa

    Waheguru ji ki fateh

Don't forget Baba Deep Singh at age 75 he was fit to lead a army. I think we should allow old veterans in the panth.

  14. Hahaha na kharku Singh he is saying they have more dedication to Satan then we have dedication to our guru s

No i really think there is a Satan or he is referring to demons in kalyug? Only thing that feds evil is the panj chor.

  15. Lol the Illuminati conjure Satan in every masonic ritual they do in a freemasons temple. The lower level freemasons are generally kept in the dark about this- their ignorance and involvement in rituals which Jesus and our Gurus taught are wrong, makes them weak spiritually and easy targets for satan.

In every temple, theres generally a throne. This is where Satan sits as the king of the dumbasses who think satan actually gives a s*it about them.

They have created buldings to harness and evoke energies and spirits, have based many temple designs on Solomons temple(google it).

Any Spiritual sikhs out there, sit and meditate on it. These people dont take a break- theyre hardcore. Guru Gobind Ji describes the dedication of dark warriors in Dasam Granth Ji. Allies of the devil are by far surpassing the dedication of most Sikhs right now.

are you pointing out Sikhs believe in Satan cuz we don't?

  16. you said if someone 'truely' wants to give their head for the panth. i tottaly agree with this, the problem i have is that we cant tell if someone 'truely' wants to give their head for the panth or if their taking amrit for the wrong reasons, this is why we need a regulation system, the regulation system would also include taking everyones names and details down who takes amrit and keeping a record so they can be called back to be checked on to see how they are doing, we need to get organised man xD , and as for bhai jugraj singh, hes an exeption, even he proberbly wished he learn the basics such as punjabi and gurmukhi before he took amrit, im sure he mentioned that in one of his videos xD but, it was just gurus hukam that he took amrit then and we should be glad he did lol ! aha

I mean the punj pyare can ask if they want to truly give their head and if the Sikh lies right in front of them and guru sahib then...

Also on the point of remembering Nitnem is many Sikhs can memorize it, but do they know what they are saying. You know I bet a lot of Amritdharis don't fully understand what they are saying or reading. So I think memorizing the Banis can be good but to know what they say is even better as they understand the Truth behind the Banis and not just be "parroting".. But I don't believe one one has to memorize all the Banis. But I do agree someone has to have basic Sikhi knowledge. One thing else is that they should have to do some intense training before amrit, whether sitting through a whole akhand paath or seva.

  17. wjkk wjkf

i think there should be a regulation system to take amrit, so u have to meet certain requirements, by letting anyone take amrit we have de valued amrit and made it seem easy and as if its no big deal, there should be a certain criteria every person wanted to take amrit has to meet and they should be interviewed by the panj pyare, the punj pyare should ask the sikh what can they bring to the panth and why they should be amritdhari. on the siantly aspect of the requiremtns , they should know their bani's and read it to the punj pyare to prove they know, they should know how to speak/read punjabi/gurmukhi and they should know our history and they should understand the value for sikhi, also they should have a soldier aspect aswell, they youths especially, they should be physically fit which means being able to do x amount of press ups, sit ups, squats etc unless they have a reason they can't. by doing this it will inspire more people to take amrit, because it will give it value and it will give sikhs who want to take amrit something to aim for, being amrit dhari has always come with a price, why has it chaged now?

ive been thinking about this alot lately, im glad someone posted this thread xD

    wjkk wjkf

This is too over the top to be honest. But I can see where your getting your views from. Jugraj Singh was a mona when he chaked amrit. Now look what he is doing for the panth. If someone wants to truly give their head for the Panth and serve the Panth in any way then they should be welcomed. There should be checks on amridharis though on how they doing with their Sikhi if they are struggling or if they are helping out with their Sikh community.

  18. i went to meet baba AJIT SINGH JI HANSALI wale last saturday i was in india, baba was bhai uday singh ji (bhai bachitar singh ji's brother) in their perivous birth. baba ji is quiet old...baba ji says tht when they will go to sachkhand thts when maha kalyug will begain.baba ji usto come to our house on akhand paths when ever we usto invite them, but nowdays they don't really travel alot.

    wjkk wjkf

so its soon eh? I knew it...............

  19. waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh...

m new here and want to talk about the bravery done by two singhs in 2003 by attacking bhaniarawala at ambala high court... those two singhs were behind bars . one named Gopal singh was caught on the spot but the other singh named Sukhwinder singh escaped after this was done but was caught after few days ... both were beaten very badly and were tortured alot....... after heaps of torture they recieved bail. ,,, a lots of people have helped gopal singh with heaps of money within from india and foreign countries.. so he s well settled now but no one knew about sukhwinder singh,, he is living in gurudwara sahib at a village doing sewa there from his childhood he dont take money for his living there bcz he wants to do just sewa,,, but for the bravery and tortured they tolerated for a long time for all of us sikh community its our responsibility to keep their bravery alive,,,, we should all help him financially .. we should not leave this bravery hidden .... plz its my request if someone reallly salutes their bravery plz reply here for furhter info.. thanks.

waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguruji ki fateh..

gotta give us more details and evidence behind this. sorry there is too many scam funds going on these days.

  20. wjkk wjkf

my question is, is it true that Guru ji really moved the kaaba? and Is it true Guru jis sandles are still inside there? and also how did guru ji get into mecca? im sure he wouldnt have disguished himself so how did he get in? i dont doubt bhai gurdas ji's writtings but is there any other type of proof or writtings about this event?

    wjkk wjkf

Yes there is proof. I heard there is a certain book at a university touching this topic. If you want more info on it I certainly think I can contact someone for you. Just don't get mixed up online searching and getting anti-Sikh writings saying Guru Nanak in no way made it to Mecca without being Muslim. Some will say he was Muslim and blah blah blah. To the point, yes he went to Mecca.
