  1. Gurbani uses this techniques too.The "Gurmukhi" composed by our second guru "Guru Angad dev ji" is written in such a format that a good language pronouncer will get the benifits of sound and vibration techniques automatically, many more techniques are included. The 31 raags included in Gurbani also have their own significance.

Also in "Anand Sahib" path ,pauri 38 ,4th guru describes that god created doors of awakening in one's body. The air shows them when one practise. The 10th door remain closed and is found by the grace of a true master.

Gurbani has much more secrets hidden in it.What we need is curosity and a pure mind and some hard working on it.

  2. Question: Master ji, we all know that it's very crucial to abstain from the eating of meat because this increases our karmas, but can you explain in more detail the reasons for becoming vegetarian?

Thakar Singh: We should not increase our burden of karmas as you have already said. There is karmic value in every kind of thing we use in this world. The air we consume, we have to pay for. The water we use, we have to pay for. The light of the sun or moon is also not free for us, and this green grass is also to be paid for - nothing is free. Depending on the "Jun" (life-form), there is a price to be paid. Lower life forms have a lower price to pay. Plants have a lower spiritual price than animal life forms. So why take the higher burden?

If you are to construct a house, you don't make it with gold or silver or jewels. If you can, you make the house with stone - Stone is very strong and cheap -- So, why don't you make your house with stone and bricks instead of gold? This body is like a house. Build it with material that is spiritually cheap and strong. Fruits and vegetables are spiritually cheap and they can make you spiritually and physically strong. Higher life-forms are expensive - and you will have to pay a higher price!

In the same way, if we can maintain a simple life style, with a spiritually lower cost - with this greenery, fruits, etc - then why attract so much burden and payment of karma by consuming higher life-forms? God did not really say that it is "burden-less" or it is all free. He has never explained it like this, but He has allowed us to have these lower forms because with our meditations we can release ourselves very quickly and easily and therefore we will not "over-burden" ourselves for a long time.

This is also the case with people who eat animals. Their nervous systems have been seriously disturbed and shaken. Even if you look at an animal that has been killed you will be emotionally affected; your nervous system will be disturbed and you will lose so much peace; you will not feel good and your heart will be affected by it. Look at a dying fish. It is out of water and if you look at it, for one or two hours or even some days your heart will not feel good. You will think of the condition of that fish and it will feel horrible and your heart and mind will be in some kind of perturbed state.

For months even this state of mind will continue. Maybe after a long time you will forget this scene and its effect will be gone from your heart and then perhaps you cannot remember it - still it has its effect. If just looking at a dead fish causes this then what will be the case when we eat it and all these negative vibrations enter into our system. So many diseases will come up and our mental systems will be disturbed.

But when we eat some greenery or fruit everything is wonderful. The plant produces the fruit for consumption by an animal so that the seeds can be transported to new places. In fact by eating the fruit you are doing a favour to the plant! - the fruit is a bait for the animal to do a function that the plant desires - That is the function of a fruit. If you look at fruit that is ripe the colors tell you so wonderfully that it is ripe. A fragrance is also available and when you smell it you enjoy it and even when you remember the smell you feel good. Your heart is also enjoying and your mind and body are at peace.

    Q. Flesh-eaters often say to vegetarian Sikhs, if you eat only vegetables you are also taking life. What, then is the difference between taking the life of, say, a pig and that of a vegetable?

    A. All the difference in the world. Does a potato cry out when it is taken from the earth the way a calf does when it is taken from its mother? Does a stick of celery scream in pain and terror when it is picked the way a pig does when it is being led to slaughter and is having its throat cut? And how sad, lonely, and frightened can a head of lettuce feel?

We don't need a polygraph to demonstrate that plants have consciousness of a sort, but this consciousness is obviously of a rudimentary kind, far different from that of mammals with well developed nervous systems. Nor do we need tests to prove that fowls and pigs and sheep experience pain to the same degree as human beings, for it is common observation that animals wince, howl, wail, and show terror when abused or injured and make every effort to avoid pain.

Actually many fruits and vegetables can be picked without killing or even harming the plants. These include berries, melons, legumes, nuts, seeds, pumpkins, and many other vegetables. Potatoes are taken from the ground after the plant has died. Most vegetables are annuals, harvested at or near the end of their natural life.

In fact, there is considerable scientific evidence that the human physiology, like that of our closest living creatures - the great apes, is vegetarian in design. The structure of our skin, teeth, stomach and bowels, the length of our digestive system, the composition of our saliva, stomach acids and urine, etc. are all typically vegetarian. There is also a mountain of evidence proving that a meat-based diet contributes to a whole range of diseases. Many scientists now concede that fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and grains appear best suited to the human body.

Finally, we know that we cannot subsist for long without food, and all food is matter that was once alive. But since we can subsist well and even thrive without meat, why take animal life in addition to the plant life we need to survive?

Among certain spiritually oriented persons one will often hear this strange rationalization: "Sure, we eat meat", they say, "what of it"? What is most important is not what enters the stomach but what comes out of the mind! Although it is true that ridding oneself of one's delusions, breaking out of the prison of the ego-I into a life of sympathy with all sentient beings is paramount, how can we establish a sympathetic rapport with non-humans while we are feasting on them?

"Do not cause pain to any creature, Go back to your Home with honour." (Sri Guru Granth Sahib, pg 322)

    Story of Bheesham Pitama

In accordance to Hindu mythology, Draupadi asked the saint Sant Bheesham Pitama, why he had not come to her rescue when she was stripped of her clothing in Duryodans court. She queried him, saying that if he was a saint, why did he not raise his voice when evil was going on before his very eyes in Duryodanas court. He started to cry and said, Daughter, I shall tell you the truth; my mind became clouded by darkness as I had eaten in Duryodans house.

Therefore, this shows how the love of God breaks away from a being as their mind becomes clouded by filth and prevents them from performing good deeds.

  3. Dear SikhSangat ji

I just came back from gurdwara, during the akhand patt for Vaisakhi, karah parsad was distributed in the middle of Japji Sahib, soon as this happened people began talking and the noise levels were such that the volume on the speakers had to be increased. As the darbar hall has an open staircase from the lower level, all you could hear was the racket coming from downstairs including children screaming and running around. There was an announcement made for quiet but didn't make much difference. I has so hurt and ashamed at this, what will become of our beautiful sikhi if people don't know how to respect our Guru ji. Seems as if people are just their for the social side of it - talking and wearing nice clothes. How can we educate people if they don't listen to the giani?

Viaguruji ka khalsa, viagurji ka fateh

Guru sahib is watching ,he is the one who looks after all and his sikhi. So try to focus on your own goal, means your avastha.People will automatically get inspire when he wants.

  4. The thing that Bijla Singh is trying to convey is that a person cannot be a "true" sikh if he is under the unnecessary attachments of maya.By getting baptised a homosexual totally contradicts the point of getting baptised.

There are many relationships in Sikh history of 2 persons of same gender, that is of Guru and sikh. The relationship is not physically based but pure love based like of a son and father.

  5. 3. So if the goal is to get rid of desires and ego and such, would a monastic life not be more effective at doing so?

    4. That makes sense. As a westerner it is hard for me to accept arranged marriages, since love is so ingrained in my cultural values and is very important to me. Love marriages are acceptable then, but not encouraged? What about a marriage in which there is more mature love and the couple grows together spiritually? Is this easier to achieve in a love marriage or an arranged marriage? I don't think I could live in a loveless marriage, but perhaps I am misunderstanding arranged marriages. Pardon me, it is simply something I've never considered before.

    5. This makes a lot of sense. Just as Christians have a very strong sense of morals and principles, many have forgotten them and I would say most Christians nowadays just go to Church on Sunday and consider that their moral responsibility. There is no spiritual striving, and no growth.

How can you know that God is the true teacher? How can you know that God exists? I ask these questions not as an attack, but because I would like to hear your answers and the answers of other Sikhs.

This is a very good point. Thank you for making this clear to me.

    1. How do you know that the Buddha was not totally enlightened?

    2. I will give it a look, thank you for the recommendation.

    3. So homosexuality is a punishment? Why is this the case, and why would being homosexual be any lesser than being heterosexual? This doesn't seem to be in the spirit of tolerance that initially drew me to Sikhi.

    4. This is definitely true, at least for young people. The western world has a very high divorce rate, and that's for a reason. However, what about older couples, or couples with more mature love for each other? I guess that would be the other 10%.

I don't see different religions as a barrier. Of course, being of the same religion can greatly help your spiritual growth if you are both on the same path, however if you are married to someone who is of the same religion but you are not as compatible as you thought, it can hinder your growth. I would argue that it is not impossible for both to live together. My parents have an interfaith marriage (or, what some would consider to be one. They come from two very very different sects of Christianity).

    5. That is a good message. We should not look at religious labels as barriers, and realize we are all humans and of the same source, but we should also adhere to our religion and be true to our faith. However I still don't feel like my question was answered. Why did Sikhi, in particular, become a religion? Perhaps I am misunderstanding what you stated and if I am then I apologize.

Thank you all for the answers. They are very interesting to me, and have given me things to think about. Last night I read the Japji Sahib and tonight I will read more.

Japji sahib is not a bani to be read in night it should be recited only before the sun set and after midnight (i.e 12:30 a.m approx).

You cannot reach satisfaction from our points, facts and stories.Hard work is necessary and by hard work i mean faith, patience, compassion and dicipline.

There is a theory that there are 5 main realms (khand) which a human being goes through.Every obtained khand remain with him as he continues the joury.

    They are

    1.Karam khand

    2.dharam khand

    3.gyan khand

    4.saram khand

    5.sach khand

1.Karam khand÷All people have this, they all sow the seeds of good and bad here and get them when crop is ripe. When a person does good deeds he is promoted to dharam khand. But as said he also have karam khand with him.

2.Dharam khand÷It is the place where he starts becoming religious.Follow the order of his guru with 100% faith and with rules and regulations.

3.Gyan khand÷After that comes gyan khand where guru gives necessary knowledge to the learner. Then the cover of illusion is teared from learners mind and reality is brought into focus.Due to his hard work he is gifted with the opening of third eye(divya drishti).

4.Saram khand÷The realm in which when one enters notices the reality.Angels, demons, heaven, hell etc can be seen by him.

5.Sach khand(The realm of TRUTH)÷Here we gets access to the place where the GOD recites.

These all are the truths i have told you from my experience of learning from Gurbani's teachings.Any further questions can be answered in inbox.

  6. Navdeep Singh Ji,

I agree with you, that there are more political conflicts today, like never before. But, the fact is, that most of the alterations in Rehat maryada is done by so called "sampradayi Mahapurushs & Brahmgyanis".

U might not agree with me but u cannot deny the fact that almost all so called Sikh deras in Punjab have formulated their own rehat maryada. Every one have their own versions, Damdami Taksal Rehat Maryada, Nanaksar Rehat Maryada, AKJ etc etc.. By what means can we say to the world that we are united. Am I wrong when I say this? Eni sari confusion ton baad sikhi ton tuteya hoya Banda ehi bolunga ki asi door hi change haan.

Other than Nanakshahi Calender issue, no political power have yet succeeded to alter Akal Takth Sikh Maryada. If u don't believe me, then plz do ur own research on this topic.

& when I speak the facts, I don't know why some people call me missionary.

No one told you that you are totally wrong. But research on history ,how the contents of banis, confusion of reciting 5,6or7 banis are made. There are many rumors that Akal takht members are in control of badal sarkar.Which also seems true in many casses.

The fact i want to discuss is that do not believe anyone blindly ,only follow the hukumnamas given by Guru Gobind Singh ji via Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji.

  7. First of all i would remind you that all religions are the way to meet god.All says the truth,it is the human mind which makes a religion rot by modifying its true values day by day.

    1. For them the existance of god cannot be sure because they have not seen god.Buddha was a saint,he believed in the energy in our body which continouosly flow with the energy outside of our body. But there are limits to his knowledge as he was not totally enlighted.

For example÷ When Guru Nanak dev ji was on his journey a quazi said that, u says there are many of many heavens and hells but in quran it is written that there are only 7 heavens and 7 hells .

Although both were correct but Guru Nanak dev ji was talking about the whole universe in which there are many galaxies and each galaxy have 7 heavens and 7 hells.

2.Bani is the words of Guru so we call them "Gurbani".Without a guru no one had or will achieve god because guru is the only medium which gives us enlightment.Kirtan, naam simran ,katha all are forms of reciting Gurbani because all are composed of the words form Gurbani. For more understanding on this i recommend you any biography on life of a mahapurush for example "se kinehiya" which can also be found as english version on google.

3.Homosexuality can be seen as a result of our past life karams.Due to our bad habits and bad sexual life.More can also be explained by the means of Guru sakhis and biographies of mahapurushs.

4.Basically 90% of love marriages are the direct result of lust and immaturity etc.Chatting, watching movies and many more things as two teenagers in a relationship makes a huge impact on our spirituality too.Love marriage can be done but only the compatablity sholud be seen in the relation.

Inter-faith marriages can be done if the another partner agrees to be a part of sikh family(i.e get baptised). If your partner belongs to other religion how can you both live together and be faithful to your own religion.

5.Surely he said that "there is no hindu,no muslim " because all the world was on a religion war that time saying that there religion is more superior. He has also stated that "a hindu should be true hindu and a muslim sholuld be true muslim"(they must deeply learn thier religion values and reasons). This type of knowledge cannot be gained just by reading internet blogs and sites. You must study a religion scripture very deeply(In Gurbani there are many correct explanations, teachings to 1 line ).For more information why Guru Gobind Singh ji made a religion, get the explanation of "Dasam Granth" from a well known sikh site.

6.There is almost 4 lakh years to happen it.....lol.

No one knows what will happen.Try getting a very high avastha, open your third eye and see it yourself.

  8. JUSTAJATT ji,

first of all, control your language. We are all brothers & Sisters here. U may be "JUST A JATT", but we all are Sikhs here.

Secondly, I am not a Dhunda follower or a missionary, nor I studied from Sikh Missionary College.

Last but not the least, tell me, how did I distort facts by quoting exact words from Akal Takth Rehat Maryada?

"Akal Takth Rehat Maryada " can be easily changed by any political party in power.See the past few years of sikhi how much loss we have suffered due to political conflicts.

If u want to learn true maryada, follow the words of gurbani and jivans of mahapurushs (as they work as light house for us).

  9. Haven't read any tuk which says do only single path but for reciting Gurbani path by just babbling it for increasing counts & doing "Tota Rattan", Gurbani says this:

parh parh gadee ladee-ah parh parh bharee-ah saath.

You may read and read loads of books; you may read and study vast multitudes of books.

parh parh bayrhee paa-ee-ai parh parh gadee-ah khaat.

You may read and read boat-loads of books; you may read and read and fill pits with them.

parhee-ah jaytay baras baras parhee-ah jaytay maas.

You may read them year after year; you may read them as many months are there are.

parhee-ai jaytee aarjaa parhee-ah jaytay saas.

You may read them all your life; you may read them with every breath.

naanak laykhai ik gal hor ha-umai jhakh-naa jhaakh. ||1||

O Nanak, only one thing is of any account: everything else is useless babbling and idle talk in ego. ||1||

    Also

"Suneya, maneya, mann kita bhaav, Antargat theerat mal nahao"

Sunana hai, fir manana hai & usnu apni zindgi ch vasana hai.

    This might help u.

& This (Little out of context, but will help u)

Just listen katha and u will understand .There is no explanation to the one who is totally close minded.

  10. Lucky Singh Ji, I quit. :stupidme:

Now please tell me what does "8 pehr simran means"?

& also tell me the meaning of this quote by Navdeep ""recite 50 japji sahib per day for 3-4 months with meaning learned of japji sahib ,u will see" -

Yes, I am closed-minded, Plz open it. :respect:

I gave u katha for that please listen to it for 1-2 hours a day.

  11. Navdeep Singh Ji, where in the above quote u mentioned studying Gurbani? Plz read ur post again. U said "recite 50 japji sahib per day for 3-4 months".

    Gurbani is not mantra.

Where in my post I said that u don't need to study Gurbani?

Studying Gurbani is all together different thing & reciting it like a mantar is different.

My comment was only on your idea of referring reciting Japji Sahib like a mantar.

Navdeep Singh Ji, thank you for the Guru Granth Sahib Katha Link.

Since u shared it, I assume that u have have listen to it.

Just tell me one line from Guru Granth Sahib which gives idea of reciting a bani 50 times a day.

Bani padna bahut changi gal hai, par uston agge vi vadhiye te usnu samajh-samajh ke apnaa jeevan ucha-sucha kariye.

I clearly said "(recite 50 japji sahib per day for 3-4 months with meaning learned of japji sahib ,u will see)."

meaning of gurbani is very essential .

For u say "Gurbani is not mantra ",verre then what is "MOOL MANTAR".

CAN YOU EXPLIAN ANY PAUDI OR TUK FROM GURBANI WHICH SAY ONE RECITING A SINGLE PATH IS USELESS.

  12. There are 1440 hrs in a day, assuming, If 1 Japji Sahib path takes around 25 min(proper shudh ucharan path) to do, then 50 paths will take 1250 mins.

left time is 190 mins, which is 7hr.

Now, when will you sleep, Eat, Work etc.?

Kirat karna tan pehla kehya hoya hai Maharaj ne.

Is it a Bani crash course?

This is wat bipar do, which Guru Maharaj refrain us to do.

Did we ever read about any of our Guru Maharaj or Bhagat practising such things?

"sawas sawas simro gobind" da matlab hai apni life di sari kriyawan nu karde hoye usde bhane wich rehna hai & usde naam nu simarna hai.

Note: I am not against Nitnem.

2 months earlier i did paath for 7-10 hours per day for a month as i am still studying. You seriously need this ÷ http://www.gurbaniupdesh.org/multimedia/listing.php?q=f&f=%2F04-Katha%2F13-Giani+Thakur+Singh+Ji+%28Patiala+Wale%29%2FKatha+Sri+Guru+Granth+Sahib+Ji

  13. How do you DO gurbani?..... do you mean when we recite it with love for guru sahib and understand their message and teachings and then put it into practice.....

if you do that then you should jaap naam as much as you can......

or are you trying to say that waheguru is not our gurmantar and we shouldn't recite it and contemplate it in deep meditation, that instead reading banis are a type of naam japna and thats enough?

This view i dont agree with, but to each his own. you're entitled to your opinion.....

SO r u saying that u never actually sit down at amritvela and meditate on Gurmantar????

SO what does your amritvela routine workout to be like......do you just do your nitnem dia bania and thats it?

I dunno man, whenever i dont do simran my day never goes well....lol

When we do any path for enormous amount of time like 10-15 hour a day ,we start getting detached from the world. And obviously one cannot simply sit and do this much time of path without guru's sikhya(which is Gurbani) and blessing. Then we get some avastha like we are always in a blissful state and remember waheguru everytime. As we continue the 'WAHEGURU' mantar can be heard in our heart, body and whole universe.Although they are very high avastas to be reached. But from this we can say that every word of Gurbani is directly related to 'WAHEGURU'.
