  1. "It takes you out of deep meditation when they spray that strong stuff."

Well, next time before you go there to sit in deep meditation what I would do is ask the Sevadars there as to why keep the sprays there.

Since they spend most of their lives there i'm sure they know what they are doing. It's easy for us to sit here back at home holding opinions about something.

Also with no offence intended, but is this meditation really deep if it is disturbed by a smell. Again, I know nothing about "deep" meditation so please don't think i'm trying to say you're not a deep meditator or anything of the sort.

  2. There is no maryada (rules) for reading Aarti-Aarta, like other Gurbani you can do it while sitting down. Also there is no time limitation, you can do it in the morning or you can do it in the evening. I'm not saying this however, this is the way it's done. Certain groups of people do this while standing up but this doesn't mean others don't do it sitting down, sometimes it's done in the evening and sometimes in the morning. There is no deciding factors such as day or anything that affect how it's done. Read it how you would read Japji Sahib/Rehiraas Sahib at home.

  3. In reply to post #6 and #3. Please make a topic about this as I don't have the time to go in-depth about why what you have said in regards to doing Keertan is wrong. Just think about the Sikhs who came before the Khalsa was created? What were they doing then?

You don't have to be Amritdhari to do Keertan. Katha is the explanation of Gurbani and as long as what a person says is in line with Gurmat then there is nothing wrong with that either.

  4. Hey there samosasingh jee,

I am sure that this question of yours has been asked before and if someone can't point you to a post very similar to yours then they will do there best to answer it. I am not knowledgable intelectually on the Ardas to answer a question on how practical/successful it may be. The fact of the matter is, Veerjee. Do we even know what is best for us? What if what we asked for in our Ardaas was not answered the way 'we' wanted it simply because it was not the best for us? Or perhaps, not the best for others involved? You see, we don't know what's right for us or not. I really won't go much into the Ardaas as I feel there are others on the forum which can elaborate on that to much higher value than someone as blind as me.

    1.

What I wanted to just point on based on what you have said

"Practically speaking sometimes the ardaas is fullfiled and most times not. Which makes you question whether or not it was going to happen anyway and we are just making this ardaas a means to make money."

    • So for example, you doing an Ardaas for a Mercedes Benz and then not recieving it by the time you wanted it. Is this the type of scenario you are talking about? or are you talking about when we ask Guru Sahib for Naam Daan, Chardikala etc? If it is the latter then how do we know Veer jee whether our Ardaas was fulfilled or not? Even if it was, how would we know - he might have fulfilled it in a way we simply can't see? You see the point i'm trying to make? Eventually it comes to a point out of our control, you have to have the Shardaa and the Pyaar for you to live in is Hukam and perhaps somewhat blind faith in Mahraj and the belief that we aren't fully aware of what's going on around us, what was coming our way and what interception Guru Sahib has done for us. For example, there is a child who wants a Sugar/Candy sweet. He keeps on asking for it but we don't give it to him because we see the larger picture - we know that if we give him the sweet on the basis he is asking for it then his teeth will suffer. Poor kid doesn't that, but we do. The kid will be dissapointed with us and think we haven't listened to what he has asked of us(I'm sorry, this probably doesn't make sense, but again as I said - someone here will elaborate on the Ardaas concept).
    • "We are just making this Ardaas a means to make money" - In what way is the Ardaas meant to be for money? When you stand in front of Mahraaj, you stand there in his presence in front of him and do your Ardaas, at what point is Mahraaj asking for money? This is new to me. Now if what you're talking about is the situation where Sangat donates X ammount of £/$'s etc to the Gurdwara to get the Pathee/Ragi/Granthi Singh to mention your name in the Ardaas. You have to step back and think what you're actually doing. You are in effect, donating to the Gurdwara which is suppose to be Nishkam(without the expectance of a return) or perhaps your Daswandh(Totally different concept, which I won't go into), you can NOT in any way PAY for an Ardaas. It's not something that's sold. Please drop this idea that you have about where it's for making money. The Singh who does the Ardaas in the Gurdwara is only saying what you have asked him to say and he should/would do this regardless whether you donated anything or not as they are 2 different things in the Gurdwara.

You see Veerjee, if you want to talk about Ardaas for money, you really need to start a different topic and keep this topic to your main question about it's authenticity. Veerjee, what I have said above, I mean it in no insulting/offending manner at all. In fact to some extent I am sure this type of question is on many other peoples minds and i'm thankful to you that you have raised such a question.

    2.

Just another quick point about another question you have asked and I think it should be created as a whole different topic.

"I sometimes myself am not sure if Bani has anything to do with our worldly lives but everything to do with those who are yearning for self realisation."

Veerjee, all I want to say on this that Bani is EVERYTHING. It has to do with Everything and it has missed out nothing. It's the way of life, it tells you how eat, drink, talk, walk. However this is a question for another topic, also another great question.

    -

I'm sure some knowledgeable Sikh will answer and hopefully reaffirm your faith in the Ardaas, till then - best wishes and I hope Mahraaj listens to your Ardaas and he gives you the strength to remain within in his will.

I'm going to hit like on your post and I hope someone takes out the time to debate the questions you have posed.

  5. Hopefully you'll manage to get a mobile number before you leave but if you don't just turn up at the Gurdwara (Harianvela) near Chabbewal (Hoshiarpur) and speak to someone there. If Baba Nihal Singh ji isn't there then ask them a contact number and revisit when he will be there.

    Have a good trip.

  6. I'm sorry but we can't help you here. This is predestined, reading Gurbani and gaining the happiness of God by acting on Gurbani is the only way that predestined date can be changed. Only through his will. Now the issue with what you're saying is you have read based on some astrology software. Sikhi does not agree with this.

Infact if it was a Sikh in your position he wouldn't think anything of it, heck even if the software said you were going to get cancer in a week or two's time.. Would make no difference.

All this kind of stuff and supersticous stuff does not affect Sikhs, we wash our hair on Tuesday, we wash it on Saturday. We cut our nails at night, we buy what we want on Saturday. Every day is the same and we don't care about how the stars are aligned because in the end we are under the will of God.

Sorry for being blunt but when I see this kind of thing linked to Sikh's in any way it infuriates me.

Read bani, help others and leave the rest to the will of God. This may sound bitter but it is the only honest advice I have. Anything else would be a lie.

  7. I don't see what the fuss about these pictures is. From what I can tell this is in India and probably at some large diwan. If Nihang Baba Nihal Singh jee is sitting behind said parcharak at the same time that doesn't mean anything, please stop getting assuming. It could be that Baba Nihal Singh jee will be going on next to do katha after Dhunda etc. It doesn't mean they are in any way affiliated. Also this can only be good because the likely hood of Dhunda speaking against Guru Gobind Singh Jee or his bani infront of Harian Belas Jatha is nil.

It should be like this every time he is about to speak, there should be these Jathe there to stop his ninda.

  8. Quote - "Y is more Sants tht do mool mantar part of nitnem then gurmantar"

Are these assumptions you are making or have you done sangat of a "Sant"(s) on a day to day basis and found this to be the case?

Quote - "I can't recall that much Sants the did gurmantar meaning there main Bhagti"

Seems like another assumption. You can't ask questions based on your own assumptions, just not a valid question. Unless you are trying to ask the forum whether more Sants do Mool Mantar or Gurmantar? Even if such a question is answered here on the forum it would be much better for you to ask a Sant this question.

From what I know there is no difference in the Abhyaas of either Gurmantar or Mool Mantar.

  9. It's a muscle like any other. If you do a lot of weight lifting for example and can lift lets say 100kg because you have been practicing regularly for a while. Now lets say you stop for a year. Almost impossible to lift 100kg. So you have to work the muscle for it to stay active.

Your vocal muscles will be back to normal if you keep on reading it.

  10. Seems like something for the doctor (your GP). Unless there is a doctor on here? As these kind of conditions vary from person to person. Someone giving you advice here based on their own experiences may not be useful to you in regards to skin.

  11. No one to show them any respect, why do they need to come forward. In the olden days people had a lot more "blind" faith with love. They didn't ask questions or try to get into technicalities. Look at how we are now. We want to know how the airplane works, not wether we will be allowed to fly on it or not. We want to be captains!

  12. Singh Jeo,

The truth is you can learn from all these cds, dvds, online videos and books etc. it is definetly possible. However a teacher or mentor who has learnt it the hard way only provides you with professional advise and is able to point you in the right way while learning any type of keertan. So although it is definetly possible to learn from media such as the above it's best to seek a mentor. Maybe you can start learning now with the books etc but then in the future when you learn from a mentor it could be hard to change bad habits etc. However if you have no other option to l guess you should just learn this way.

Either way, I hope that if you really want to learn keertan that you are able to pursue this and achieve the very best.
