  1. veer ms514 said he's not sure about the company. btw, isn't ur display name supposed to be shastran 'ke' adheen hai raaj?
  2. I do the same to my Sri Sahib, but believe me, the Punjabi mades are NO WAY in compairson with the foreign ones.
  3. vaaheguru ji ka khalsa vaaheguru ji ki fateh I totally agree with you. We should support our brothers and sisters who work hard for creating shastars for us. But there is one good thing about foreign shastars. They won't be blunt! When was the last time when you saw a kirpan that wasn't actually blunt? I personally only know of a couple of places which make shastars how they are supposed to be. Rest of them just sell iron plates and nothing else. vaaheguru ji ka khalsa vaaheguru ji ki fateh
  4. Bhindranwale aide appointed new Jathedar of Taksal By Varinder Walia, The India Tribune Wednesday, 18th June 2003 A former priest of the Golden Temple, Bhai Ram Singh (40), an aide of Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, has been appointed 15th Jathedar of Damdami Taksal. A decision to this effect was taken at an emergency meeting in [Tracy, California, USA], presided over by Baba Thakur Singh, Acting Chief of the taksal. Bhai Ram Singh is nephew of Sant Kartar Singh Khalsa, the 13th Jathedar of Damdami Taksal. He took religious training in Damdami Taksal. The appointment of Bhai Ram Singh as Jathedar was necessitated when the Jathedar of Akal Takht and the SGPC made a formal announcement on June 6 that Sant Bhindranwale had been martyred in Operation Bluestar. Earlier, Baba Thakur Singh and a section of Damdami Taksal had spread word that Sant Bhindranwale had escaped in Operation Bluestar and would emerge at an appropriate time. Bibi Balwinder Kaur, wife of Bhai Ram Singh, while talking to TNS confirmed that the appointment had been made. She said Bhai Ram Singh himself had informed the family that he was presented the ‘dastar’ (turban) by Baba Thakur Singh. The function to mark his installation would be held at Chowk Mehta, headquarters of Damdami Taksal. Bhai Manjit Singh, senior Akali leader and cousin of Bhai Ram Singh, said that with his appointment as Jathedar of Damdami Taksal, the controversy regarding the death of Sant Bhindranwale stood resolved. Bhai Manjit Singh was present at the Golden Temple when the Jathedar of Akal Takht had declared that Sant Bhindranwale was ‘martyred’ in the Operation Bluestar. Mr Harminder Singh Gill, president of the All-India Sikh Students Federation, said the stand of the federation stood vindicated with the appointment of Bhai Ram Singh who replaces Sant Bhindranwale after 19 years of his death. Unlike Sant Bhindranwale, Bhai Ram Singh is considered a moderate religious leader. He is famous for his religious discourses and visits to a number of countries for the propagation of the faith. He is the grandson of the late Jathedar Jhanda Singh, the then district jathedar of Kasur (now in Pakistan) who had courted arrest in various ‘morchas’ (agitations) launched before Independence. His father, Jathedar Jagtar Singh, too was a senior Akali leader. Bhai Satbir Singh, senior functionary of Damdami Taksal, told TNS that he had received a call from the USA that Bhai Ram Singh has been appointed Jathedar of the taksal by Baba Thakur Singh. He said the taksal would accept any decision taken by Baba Thakur Singh. In a recorded speech, Sant Bhindranwale had appealed to the Sikh masses to accept any decision of Baba Thakur Singh after his death. Earlier, Bhai Ram Singh had resigned as priest of the Golden Temple in protest when he was transferred to Jind in Haryana by the SGPC. The SGPC took action against Bhai Ram Singh as he had refused to adhere to the ‘dress code’ specified for the Sikh high priests. Despite warnings, Bhai Ram Singh continued to wear the dress worn by the students of Damdami Taksal. Meanwhile, Mr Gurcharan Singh Tohra, former SGPC chief, has hailed the appointment of Bhai Ram Singh. http://waheguroo.com/news/?{633Q6-17274-69...-2696R-743Q3-1}
  5. Swiss knife maker takes on India BBC correspondent in Bangalore Thursday, 19th June 2003 Swiss knife maker Victorinox is planning to tap into a traditional Indian market. They hope to sell the customary knives carried by Sikh and Gurkha communities in India. A company representative said work was already underway to design traditional knives in the country. Victorinox have started designing the brass and enamel-plated handles for the traditional "Kirpan" worn by Sikhs. Anish Goel, who represents Victorinox in India, said the work is being carried out at a unit in the commercial capital Bombay, also known as Mumbai. Encouraging He said the blades for the knives would be manufactured in Switzerland. Mr Goel said company officials have met leaders of the Sikh community in India and they have had an encouraging response. "Our next target is the Gurkhas, another community associated with knives," Mr Goel told the BBC. Gurkhas carry traditional "Khukri" knives and are known for their bravery. India and the UK have army regiments named after this community hailing from Nepal. "We are targeting a growth of 20% this year," Mr Goel said. He said the company - best known for the production of 'Swiss Army' pocket knives - sold about 30,000 knives in India last year. http://waheguroo.com/news/?{633Q6-17274-69...26-49443-Q3935}

  7. It's not yet confirmed if Baba Thakur Singh Ji did dastar bandhi on Baba Ram Singh Ji or not. Although some news sources mention this, but this could be written in error.
  8. vaaheguru ji ka khalsa vaaheguru ji ki fateh First two pauris of Sohila Sahib are by Guru Nanak Sahib ji, 3rd by Guru Amar Daas Ji, 4th by Guru Raam Daas Ji and 5th by Guru Arjan Sahib ji. Who composed Rehraas Sahib? Hmm, this answer could vary according to the Rehraas Sahib u do. hehe. j/k (but this is serious). You can tell what part of Rehraas Sahib is composed by which Guru by looking at Mehal number of Patshahi for Dassam Pitta. As for the Saloaks/Doheras/Chands which come after Chaupae Sahib and before Anand Sahib, they are most probably all composed by Guru Gobind Singh Ji except for a couple. You should check on this on Sikhi to the Max or some or source similar to this. This was posted on akj.org/phorum a long time ago: . I don't really know how Kirtan got attached to Sohila. Perhaps someone with gyaan could answer that question for u. I think veer ms514 posted something about this on our previous boards. vaaheguru ji ka khalsa vaaheguru ji ki fateh
  9. Some of us might already have this :D but I thought maybe I should spread the news of it becoming public!! Yes! Test it out now! http://www.msnmessenger-download.com/Previ...ew/default.aspx
  10. vaaheguru ji ka khalsa vaaheguru ji ki fateh If you are stuck with Jathebandi, then you are probably not ready to take Amrit yet. Who give amrit out at AKJ organized smagams? People or Punj Pyare? If you don't believe with some parts of the rehit, u can just talk to the Punj Pyare over there and they'll provide you answers so you are left doubtless. If you want to discuss your doubts you are more than welcome to post them on this forum and I'm sure our brothers and sisters associted with AKJ will provide answers to you. There are ppl who discourage others from taking amrit in many ways. This might just be another try. Who knows? You shouldn't get discouraged. Take amrit as soon as you can! This doesn't has to be at AKJ organized smagam, just look for the one which is coming up. vaaheguru ji ka khalsa vaaheguru ji ki fateh
  11. Be sure to get hold of the book titled "Dassam Granth Parbodh" especially if you believe in this: . This was compliled at the time of Baba Gurbhachan Singh Ji Khalsa and he got it compilied using his own hands. He didn't write it himself, but he was the instructor.
  12. can anyone feed us on what the current followers of Nariender are thinking about this?
  13. exactly, otherwise what was the point to get rid of the Pandit system?
  14. N30, SikhForLife clearly said that he doesn't intend any disrespect towards Baba Ishar Singh Ji. Please stop picking on each other and focus more on answering the questions he raised. We (including me) make a mistake of labelling people with titles such as BrahmGyani and we don't even think about it. It's clearly written in Sukhmani Sahib that only one BrahmGyani knows the gat of another. So what do u think about this? Is labelling of Baba ji as a brahmgyani wrong? Or mayb e not because you are giving urself the same title? vaaheguru ji ka khalsa vaaheguru ji ki fateh
  15. you can tell this from the index page. Scroll down to the bottom and look at Board Statistics.

  18. The Metropolitan Police said serving Muslim officers in London had asked to be allowed to wear their turbans. A spokesman said: "Whilst many Muslim officers will not necessarily choose to wear the turban there are serving Muslim officers who will benefit from this new policy and have asked for it. "Authority has now been granted for them to wear their turbans instead of the current headwear." Sikh officers in the Met have been able to wear turbans while in uniform for many years. Last year female Muslim officers were told they would be allowed to wear their traditional headscarves, or hijabs, on duty. Mohammad Mahroof, Secretary General of the Association of Muslim Police, who wears a turban himself, said: "We made representations to the Met and it is to their credit that they have chosen to allow those Muslim officers who wear turbans to retain them whilst in uniform. "These turbans are a great tradition of our Prophet and striving to adhere to his traditions is an important part of Muslim life." Met Assistant Commissioner Bernard Hogan-Howe said he hoped the move would boost ethnic minority recruitment. "I hope that it encourages more Muslims to consider the police as a career and I also hope that it encourages all minority groups to believe that the Met is an employer of choice." http://news.waheguroo.com/?{633Q6-17274-69...26-49443-Q3932}
  19. Jim Walsh The Arizona Republic Jun. 16, 2003 01:00 PM A defense attorney conceded in court Monday that in the days following the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, his client shot to death a Sikh gas-station owner and committed driveby shootings at a Lebanese-owned gas station and an Iraqi man's home. Lawyer Dan Patterson made the admission as part of a guilty-but-insane defense strategy he plans to use in the upcoming trial of Frank Roque, 43. The Mesa man is accused of gunning down Balbir Singh Sodhi, 49, in retaliation for the terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center in New York City and at the Pentagon building near Washington, D.C. During his arrest, according to police reports, Roque declared that "I'm a patriot" and that he was "standing up for his brothers and sisters" in New York - declarations in a series of crimes that were universally condemned. Roque also made numerous anti-Arab racist statements before and after the shooting spree, the police reports said. Sikhs are members of the world's fifth leading religion, which teaches tolerance of all races and originates in northern India. Sikh men are required to where turbans and beards as an expression of their faith. Sikhs have been confused by their attackers with Arabs in a wave of hate crimes against people of Middle Eastern and south Asian origins that followed the terrorist attacks. A second Sikh man, Avtar Singh Cheira, 52, of Phoenix, was shot last month by gunmen who reportedly yelled, "Go back to where you come from." Cheira, a truck driver, is recovering from his injuries. Patterson told Mar icopa County Superior Court Judge Mark Aceto Monday morning that an acknowledgment of the basic facts as charged in Roque's indictment is required for using the guilty-but-insane defense. "There is no disagreement on the timing of these three discrete offenses," Patterson said, but he stopped short of saying Roque's motive was hate. Rana Singh Sodhi of Phoenix, one of the victim's brothers, said he is pleased Roque is admitting the slaying but does not buy the insanity defense. Roque acted with premeditation, visiting the gas station before Balbir Singh Sodhi was gunned down to make sure the victim was working, Rana Singh Sodhi said. If successful, Patterson's defense would spare Roque from the death penalty that is sought by prosecutors. Roque would be committed to the state mental hospital, where the status of his sanity would be reviewed periodically. He would be released if the panel deems him sane. Aceto continued Roque's trial until June 30 to accommodate expert witnesses who are expected to testify. Roque was found competent to stand trial in June 2002. Patterson wrote in a March 2002 motion that Roque has been diagnosed as schizophrenic and that he his mother was institutionalized for treatment of schizophrenia. http://news.waheguroo.com/?{633Q6-17274-69...26-49443-Q3931}
  20. A Warning to the Sikh community about Gurbakhsh Singh Kala-Afghana. The Sikh community outside of India has managed to prosper in a relatively short period of time as a result of devoted service, hard work, meeting multiple challenges internal and external, and enduring in many cases much hardship. It has become a robust, vibrant community and slowly people everywhere are taking note of the values and teachings of the Sikh Gurus. The Sikh heritage and history are replete with the finest examples of personal sacrifice and nobility of spirit. There are people who would change history and undermine the Gurus teachings by spreading false concepts to the congregations and the common public at large. One such person is Gurbakhsh Singh Kala-Afghana. His supporters hail him as an enlightened scholar but nothing could be further from the truth upon examination of his literature. His writings often indicate a cynical disregard for the most cherished of Sikh institutions as the Khande-ke-Pahul Amrit and recitation of Nitnem. He categorically states that any scripture written outside Guru Granth Sahib Ji is not Gurbani. This includes Jaap Sahib, Tav Prasad Savaye and Kabiyo Bach Bentee Chaupai, which he states were not compositions of the Guru. That in itself would make Nitnem obsolete.The same goes for the writings of Bhai Gurdas Ji and Bhai Nand Lal Ji. If these banees are false then what of Khande-ke-Pahul Amrit? Well he proposes that only Japjee Sahib was recited in 1699. Also, the exclusion of the compositions of Guru Gobind Singh by extension would also invalidate Khande-ka-Amrit. This person and his web of supporters have sought to discredit the most renown Sikh luminaries of the Panth, dedicated souls acknowledged for their selfless service, and sacrifice. He also denies the existence of a Sikh mystical life. Kala Afghana’s works are banned for publication by the Akal Takht Sahib. He and his supporters continue to defy that ban. The Akal Takht Sahib is now seriously evaluating his conduct as a Sikh. Out of all this a pattern now emerges. An attempt is being made to rewrite and corrupt Sikh history and undermine the most basic and cherished of Sikh institutions. Sadh-sangat Jio, concerned dedicated Sikhs everywhere, we urge you to educate yourselves as much as you can about the perverse writings of Kala Afghana and also about Sikh history and practice. Using that knowledge, aggressively challenge such as him by writing rebuttals and verbally when he visits your communities. Then when you are done, turn him out. We urge you to voice your complaints to Sri Akal Takht Sahib as this man’s and his supporters’ conducts are unacceptable and unbecoming of a Sikh. Above all, imbibe the teachings of the Gurus and if you have not, work towards one day taking the Khande-ke-Pahul. Thank you for your attention in this matter. Yours sincerely, Sevadars to the Khalsa Panth, The Khalsa Alliance http://www.KhalsaAlliance.org info@KhalsaAlliance.org http://www.khalsaalliance.org/alert1.ppa
  21. To the Sikh Sadh-Sangat at large: Please note that a heretic group headed by a self-styled ‘guru’ is aggressively recruiting unsuspecting people on-line and at their local base in Toronto. These people espouse beliefs that are counter to the teachings of the Sikh Gurus and include: 1) the belief in living a Guru. The present guru is known by the name Nariender Grewal. His followers bow their heads to his feet instead of Guru Granth Sahib Ji. 2) like the Kala-Afghana group, they do not believe in the institution of Panj Piarays or Amrit Sanchaar. 3) they claim that ‘Satnaam’ is the real Gurmantar and not ‘Waheguru’ 4) they have changed Panthic Parvaant GurFateh from ‘Waheguruji ka Khalsa Waheguruji ki Fateh’ to ‘Satnaamji ka Khalsa Satnaamji ki Fateh’ 5) Nariender Grewal claims to be the living Guru and claims to replace Guru Gobind Singh and Guru Granth Sahib Ji. 6) Nariender Grewal addresses Akal Purakh Sahib and our Guru Sahibs in crude language 7) Nariender Grewal practices polygamy and claims to have 2 wives. 8) Surinder Singh Multani is one of his main spokesperson on the Net. He writes convoluted letters using real Gurbanee quotations to back this group’s twisted belief system. He has aggressively made his rounds on the net trying to recruit more converts, often using multiple identities and aliases. His writings have been banned by many websites. He has resorted to threats of lawsuit for being denied access to sangat members by diligent administrators. Sevadaars working with the Khalsa Alliance became aware of this group’s activities several months ago, and have been observing their behavior on the Net. Their system of attacking Panthic beliefs is not too different from the approach taken by Kala Aghana and his followers. It is interesting to see that just about the time that the Kala Afghana issue is about to be finalized, other chameleons like him are already being propped up by Anti-Panthic elements. We, fellow Sikh sangat members, urge other Sikh Sangat members and all Jathebandees to denounce these people wherever they congregate, in the press and on-line. We urge all of you to voice your concerns to the Akal Takht Sahib and to please inform your innocent family members of these charlatans and to avoid them at all costs. Yours sincerely, Sevadars to the Khalsa Panth The Khalsa Alliance http://www.KhalsaAlliance.org info@KhalsaAlliance.org http://www.khalsaalliance.org/alert2.ppa
