  1. I don't know anything about people in Punjabi diaspora converting to Christianity, but there are certain patterns one should know of while talking of conversions to Christianity in India. Firstly, the dominant pattern has always been people from scheduled castes / tribes converting to Christianity due to lack of access to religious places, discrimination, abuse and other oppressive behavior. For example, in case of Mizoram (majority ST state) and Kerala, conversions to Christianity occurred largely due to economic status in the case of Mizos and discrimination in case of Kerala. Conversions in Punjab among the Sikhs are due to two reasons largely - oppression of Dalits in rural areas and attraction towards the West among the middle class non-Dalit Sikh. About financial incentivizing of conversions, that has largely stopped, as foreign fund inflow into India is strictly monitored after the passage of FCRA Act which can freeze financial transfers, bank accounts and can lead to seizure of assets in case of violation. All transactions are centrally routed for NGOs and other organizations through government banks connected with the RBI Delhi Office. This has actual immediate impact in many areas - This is in Tamil Nadu and Kerala This is in Andhra Pradesh There is also effort going on at ground level in rural AP where a lot of conversions took place especially in coastal belt up till the 1960s. This is happening in North East Also, abt FCRA All hope is not lost. But people who are converting out of genuine attraction and not monetary incentives are going to be a serious threat (especially in middle class Jatts n Khatris who r converting)
