  1. I was with a consultant radiologist who once told me about how he worked with a Sikh doctor in London. The Sikh doctor was doing research into why there was a higher rate of heart disease in the Sikh population. They looked at diet which when closely analysed (they got different families to make their normal meals and then a small portion was taken for analysis). The levels of carbs and fat were similar to Western diets, which didn't really show any link with diet. The gist of the research showed that basically it was genetic.

Sikhs have a genetic propensity for heart disease.

    that doesn't make sense.

are you sure this wasn't a reference to punjabis as opposed to sikhs?

if some random person converted to sikhi, the likelihood of them getting heart disease wouldn't increase would it. and sikhs over the world dont exactly have a homogenous diet-depends on where you come from and what food is available.

  2. yh i have!! i got 6 bludy exams in one day, one after the other!

i had that problem last year- 9 hours of exams in one day!! in the end they had to change it, so i had 12 exams in three days.

that is my definition of hell.

IT IS POSSIBLE!!! DONT GIVE UP PEOPLE

im still alive after it :D

just do past exam papers every spare second you get, eat healthily for a while and get some decent exercise. most importantly just keep reading bani/doing keertan/ardaas.

you have the capability, the only thing which could let you down is ur attitude.

think positive, and i hope it goes well for everyone!! :)

was reading this shabad and started thinking about praise

does this mean that we shouldnt praise people excessively, or does it mean we shouldnt praise others at all?

also having trouble understanding the last line, so if someone could help, id be very grateful

    thankyouuu

  4. ^ yeah, who IS coming to london?

UCAS should warn you about wolverhampton university

From the very first words "welcome to wolverhampton uni" I advise you to run. The lectures are just powerpoint presentation with a puppet reading it out loud and the grading system, well lets just say its abit like a huge game of Bingo. The only good thing is that there are in fact some good people who go there, but really thats like a plaster on a broken leg..

    :LOLz: :LOLz: :LOLz:

awww thats mean. but funny LOL it cant be that bad!

  5. having a good easy time right now with mum's rotis!

    haha typical, mummys boy! :p

How much sangat at City Uni? QMUL? Westminster? Also I hear de montfort is good?

city- found it quite depressing to be honest. but the sikh society is ok, know a couple of people that go there and ive bin told they do have regular events etc

QMUL- same as above really. its east london, so it was a complete toilet once u stepped outside the uni (meant in the nicest way possible). but if ur gonna live at home then that doesnt really matter. if the sikh society isnt brilliant then it wouldnt really matter seeing as ur in london, and ull prob have ur own car by then.

de montfort- bound to have a lot of sangat, its in leicester. so im guessing its got a good sikh soc

havent gt a clue about westminster

stick to london and birmingham n ur almost guaranteed to be in the middle of tons of sangat.

  6. maharaaj dee kirpa naal, many unis in the uk now have very strong sikh societies,

so its tough trying to narrow down which have the most sangat and events etc

what i did was decide on my course first, then look at which universities were best for my course

i then chose a few which id thought id like and could get into, n ranked them according to which had the most sangat in tht general area. so ultimately my first choice and insurance were based on the amount of sangat/programs at the uni.

that might be easier than deciding on an area, then trying to find a decent uni there, and then seeing if it does your course.

    keep us posted!

edit- if you havent heard of it already, the times good university guide is really useful as a rough guideline.

  7. You are stunned by the signs stating to be careful as pickpocketers galore in this area. The Oxford Street turns out to be a insane human congested road with people bumbing into you left right and centre. You have more bruises than if you had been paintballing!

    LOL

    spot on.

  8. In Internet Explorer, click the Page menu, then click Save As. Save the page as a "Webpage, Complete" file. Then you can right click it and choose Edit to edit it in Word. If you want it preserved as close as it can be to how it looks onscreen (but only be able to view it in Internet Explorer), save it as a "Web Archive (.mht)" file.

alternativly if you are using Firefox,

    go to save page as.

Then once it's saved you can open and edit the whole thing in MS word or any other program of your choice.

But the above should do you :)

thanks for tht! couldnt remember how to do it

and youre welcome *gupt-kaur* bhenji :)

  9. I will say that you should not wear turban. This is because Sikhi is not desperate for anyone to wear a turban. Sikhi is about making sure those people who do wear turbans are of the best quality. I don't see you lasting to become the best quality so just forget about it.

errrr who do you think u are?

you are trying to discourage someone from keeping a dastaar.

YOU are trying to DISCOURAGE someone from keeping a DASTAAR.

i dont care if its reverse psychology, ur talking rubbish. zip it.

In all honesty as lovely as you sound, I really don't see you lasting wearing a turban

do i even need to comment on this? seriously.

sorry if that was rude, but you had no right to say any of that.

i know im a moorakh who cant control my temper, but im working on it.

to the original poster... i understand how difficult it is to go against ur family. my family have always controlled pretty much everything in my life, and there comes a point where u think, im not listening to u anymore, because what youre making me do is wrong.

increase the amount of gurbani you read on a daily basis. listen to kirtan wherever you are, whatever ur doing. be strong, and maharaaj will do even more kirpa. do as much ardaas as you can, and keep the sangat of those who will bring you closer to guru jee. hope everything works out

  10. cant think of a sikhi software to make

whoa. thats a bit advanced for A level isnt it? (assuming ur doing a level :p )

the most ive ever done is write code for VB loll :BL:

how about something which keeps track of accounts of ur local gurdwara?

or like a interactive timeline of sikh itihaas?

dnt know if thats too complicated or not...

    good luck anyway :)

  11. NO TV

    NO COMPUTER

    NO LAPTOPS

    NOTHING ELECTRICAL

    NO MOBILE

    NO FAMILY

    NO MASS AMOUNT OF CASH

no tv? no sahibzaade movies, potentially less parchaar?

no computer/laptops? no sikhsangat. no veechaar. no sikhi to the max

    it goes on and on

rather than thinking 'bad, stay away', we can use these resources constructively

Is there more maya in the world today than there was in past centuries? Does the amount of maya keep on going up as we get deeper and deeper into kalyug?

    as sher-e-moreau veerji said

maybe theres has been a constant amount, but the form of maya just keeps changing

as we go deeper into kaljug, could it be the vikaar that are getting stronger?

so the attachment to maya rather than maya itself.
