    Bhatri Sikh

BHATRI, SIKH. IM A BHATRA, WHY DONT YOU TRY AND CONVINCE THEM THAT YOU WONT MESS ABOUT IN COLLEGE. WHAT ABOUT DOING A PART TIME COURSE WHERE YOU HAVE TO BE AT COLLEGE FOR ONLY A WHILE? I KNOW EVERYONE GOES ON ABOUT COLLEGE ECT. BELIEVE ME ITS ALL WHAT ITS CRACKED UP TO BE. UNI IS BETTER THOUGH. IF YOU WANT TO MAKE SOMETHING OF YOURSELF. THERES OTHER WAYS TO DO IT. YOUR PARENTS PROBABLY TRUST YOU. ITS JUST THEY DONT TRUST BOYS. WHAT DO YOU WANT TO STUDY??
  3. p.s how did she found out after 6 years that the guy was paid to convert her??
  4. the simple facts is this. muslims tend to be unified. whereas. due to the various castes. Sikhs are not united. i dont even think you can say there is A Sikh community in the uk. it more of a Tharkaan comminity, Bhatra Community and Jatt community. who just mix between themseleves. also the reason is. that there are 2 mllion muslims in the uk. and only about 500.000 Sikhs. girls that convert i dont know the psychology behing it. becuase in Bhatras its un heard of. its the other way round actually. i know muslim girls that have married Bhatras and converted to Sikhism.

    Bhatri Sikh

hi Bhatri. im a Bhatra for the record but i don t believe in cast ect. first of all dont run away. that is ridiculous. well about this arranged marriage. why are you getting married in india anyway? why not get married to someone in the uk? if your not happy about getting married in india then can you not tell your parents? let me assure you that. this isnt an everyday thing. 99% of Bhatras get to choose who they marry ie in the uk or in india. and their are quite a few love marriages happening more and more. the reason Bhatras dont let their girls go to college uni ect. is becuase they think that this a place where boys will try it on ect. and are quite protective of their girls. ill post more advice later.
  7. thanks thats the link. SSA
  8. SSA i was browsing the forum yeaterday and saw a topic about conversions. and a radio debate about this on bbc asian network. i cant seem to find that topic. has it been deleted??
  9. ive never heard of it.. whats it like? how is it scary? :umm: and umm...what do people do there?? iv heard some people go there becuase they believe theyve been possesed or someone has done black magic to them. so they go their and bave in the water thing. and that is suppose to cure them. the reason its scary is becuase its in the middle of no where . you have to travel down some mountins i think. anyway theres loads of people swinging their head. which to an 10 years old is very scary. also the place where we were staying . when we went out at night. the shops where open and in the temples people were swinging their heads. i dont know why they do that. i cant explain but it was very spooky at night. alot of epole get kidnapped. and me and my brother and a cousin went by ourseleves and we were all young. i went when i was 5 aswell back then it was a waterfall you went under. but now its like this giant pipes. thats amazing. i thought i was the only one that new about the place. yeah you have to travel on foot on a long trek. we went to the gurdwara where my aunti donated lots of gold. to the temple. i dont really have much info on it. i just remember going their. but i havent asked anyone in the house about it. i found it quite scary seeing people swing their heads so fast. anyway. yeah thats it. thanks for the link. ive been trying to find some info on the net but didnt find anything. a few people i know go their every year.
  10. does anyone know about that place in india. where people go if theyve been possesd? and ive seen loads of sikhs there to. i think its called baba derah. is it right to go their?? ive been there and trust me its the spookiest place ive ever been to.
  11. probably the uk. america and canada are huge countries so i guess sikhs will be spread out. but in the uk. no matter what city you go to you will find alot of sikhs and gurdwaras. also i dont like big countries for some reason i prefer a small country where i know what is what ect lol.
  12. yes respect to him. he actually stayed in my uncles house when he came to england after he shot dyer.
  13. haha thanks. i might just go to southall then to buy the items and also visit the Gurdwara there.
  14. hi. can anyone reccomend me a shop online. that i can buy Karas, Kirpans, Sikh pictures?? i know about sikh link. but is their anymore as they dont seem to have pictures. thanks in advance.
  15. ^^ maybe because he didnt want to get a good picture of himself. coz later he shot dyer. shepards bush gurdwara was the first gurdwara in england. and was built in the 1920's by the Sikh bhatra community. my couins great grandad built it. yes it is defiantly Udham Singh. its well known that he stayed and lived with Bhatra Sikhs when he came to the uk. and was provided with everything he needed to acomplish his mission. During his time from when he first arrived in the uk to the time he killed General dyer , Shaheed Udham Singh stayed with members of the Bhat sikh sangat , who he was highly in praise of.
  16. Here is a fascinating photograph It was taken at the original Shepherd's Bush Gurdwara(Sinclair Rd London) - on the Guru Nanak Janam Diwas Gurpurb - 18 November 1937. On display are a myriad of turban styles , smart suits, waist-coats and watch chains. There are little boys in turbans and short trousers, ladies in sarees and fur coats. However what makes this image fascinating is Udham Singh Shaheed standing right at the back. Udham Singh shot O'Dwyer a year later on 13 march 1940. The image includes leading lights, students, workers- all 'classes' though the majority are described in the photo's caption as 'Singhs from the Bhatra Biradari' ( the central two rows standing). *photo taken from "Pirtan - Cultural kosh Bhag 1" C S Chan (around 1985 -not really a book just a collection of copied images
  17. lol if you want some information i can give it you. theres no need to ask inl a sly way lol. anyway. No. the women and men eat together. what i meant by the boys side. is the janj which includes men and women. basicaly the people related to the boys side. dont tell me the next question is. are the kids locked in a cellar. while this takes placee lol
  18. the only time meat is served. ie bacon and eggs full english is in a sepertae building. this is for the guests. who arrive from the boys side on the wedding . apart from that. vegetarian langar is only served.
  19. you seem to be quick to jump to conclusions. ive never seen the practice of meat being eaten in a Bhatra Gurdwarara. also if there was a case of this. then it is wrong and the people responsible should be ashamed of themselves. also the meat being served was not in the actual gurdwara. it was in a community hall. seperate from the gurdwara. i heard from a mate. that jatt they eat beef and drink before going into the gurdwara. but that was a two people. does that mean all jatts do that? think before you type.
  20. Bhatra Gurdwaras no longer use the word Bhatra on the Gurdwara. if my information is correct. if there a Bhatra named Gurdwara then. i think that is completley wrong. and maybe Ramghairias should also adress this issue! as they have massive signs with Their cast wriiten on it. also i never said said Bhatras are perfect Sikhs. no one is perfect. the intention of my post was to stop all this confusion about meat being eaten. but the main issue has somehow changed into a cast thread. as i siad i dont believe in the cast sysytem. and people that do are going against Sikhism. i never label myself bhatra. only when this issue came up. and you will find that all bhatreh never use their family name. Guru Gobind Singh told us Singh will be our last name. so why do i see so many people who have their family name? it Should be Singh.
  21. lol i dont know what your cast is. but even though you dont believe in the castes. you would be slighty offended if someone says something offensive. and basicaly swearing at them. also you call our community corrupt? well how can you judge our community just on me? or are you narror minded as well as ignorrant? also the word bhatra means sacred writer. as one of our professsions was to be scribes and bards or religious scriptures. we dont name ourselves after some village and boast about it. p.s i think youve taken my meesage out of context. i meant in the 'gurdwara'
  22. listen, are you 5 years old? talk sensibly. first of all what i meant was we dont eat meat in the gurdwara. but some of us eat meat when were out of the gurdwara. its not rocket science. i know i would get insecure people like you. who cant handle simple facts. maybe i shouldnt have said bhatra sikh. instead a sikh from the bhatra community. but i think you need to grow up son. and i wouldnt say what you said to any bhats u might get killed. that gores for anyone who says something offensive to a community.
  23. palanda, i think you should calm down a little. AND TAKE A CHILL PILL. firstly as a Sikh from THE Bhatra community you will find that we are the ones that are upholding the true vales and priciples of Sikhism. and you will find that Bhatras are not cast obessed like many other sikhs. and i dont believE in castes myslef. CASTE DOES NOT MEAN NOTHING TO ME. i only said im a Bhatra. coz i was adressing an issue theat involves our community.
