We dont celebrate Christmas  just another ordinary day.   As a kid I used to like Christmas because I went to a primary school with a lot of heavy christian influence   but when I became a teenager I stopped

December is a shaheedi month and nothing should be celebrated      my birthday is in december and I dont celebrate it    I'm not a birthday person anyway   I find all that stuff really cringe

My birthday is also on December and is also near Christmas day. Christmas tends to over shadow my birthday. Which I don't like. I would rather have a march birthday or something like may or . It's feels strange having a December birthday. Does not feel special.

Im sure there are plenty. Maybe do a google search. Just be wary of some people who may claim just because you have a different size turban or your moustash is not the right lenghth that you are no longer sikh. Sadly we have some fruitcakes like this in our kaum.

    SSA Ji,

I was wondering if anyone could draw a comparison or explain this to me. I am unfamiliar with Islam but I have a close friend who is Muslim and knows very little about Sikhi. I was describing to him about the Gurus, and he asked if they could be comparable to their "Prophet." As far as I understand, the "Prophet" was just a messenger of God. But I am unsure if the 10 Gurus can be compared to a messenger. I know Guru Gobind Singh Ji said do not pray to him as he was not God, and to pray only to the Guru Granth Sahib Ji. So can we call the Guru Jis messengers of God? Sorry for any confusion and I do not mean any disrespect by drawing this comparison, I simply am trying to convey an understanding of how we view our Guru Jis to a friend with little understanding of our history. Thank you in advance.

Muslims are told to try and convert anyone. they even do it slyly. such as accidentaly dropping a leaflet on islam in your book. or sending you some muslim facebook link. ect. ignore this fool.

The Arab States won't. They prioritise their own Arabs. They really don't care about other muslims because they don't consider them muslims.

They don't serve non Arab muslims, non Arab Muslims serve them.

    The Ummah is a myth.

Yep muslims are not united as people think. Most of them will only marry their own race of people ie middle eastern muslims will never mary south asian muslims. They are bound by race, caste and nationality.

    Hi

Over the years I have personally struggled with not having any sexual desires or feelings. I used to naively think because I did so much simran as a child I have destroyed all my kaam but I have recently come to understand Asexuality (no kaamy thoughts).

I have never seen women or anything in a lustful way,  now I am in my late 20s alot of people suspect I'm gay or there is something wrong with me as I join in zero conversations regarding these matters or even acknowledge the opposite gender and put off talk of marriage. I am content in living my own life and not getting married etc.

Is there any historical context or guidance people have? I cant be the first one! Apparently its statistical more prevalent with woman but they just go through marriage etc as its an expected social norm, is that an inevitable fate for me?

It could be your suffering from a low libido. This means you have a low desire for sex. This is actually very common in people from time to time. When they have no interest in the opposite sex.

This could be due to a number of reasons such as a hormone imbalance.

Things that lower sex drive are.

    Alcohol, smoking, bad diet ect

I totally understand preventing new fake users signing up and spamming the board with advertising links and such.

It is puzzling and also frustrating why users with hundreds, some with thousands, of posts would need to be be similarly restricted.

If they had been causing a problem, they would have been discovered years ago.

The disabling of the "link" button is similarly problematic (for longtime users).

It's seems like the moderators are so power hungry. That they want to moderate everything. Like they enjoy the power trip of moderating members posts.

The solution as already mentioned is simple. Just manually aporove all new members and keep it as it was before. It's easy to spot the fake automated members.

On second thoughts. Members should not post links. That way the topic won't need moderating for every post.

It's the issue that nobody wants to speak about. It's the issue that dares not speak it's name. Some will say don't speak about it because it's castist while others will dismiss it because it interferes with their pre-held misconceptions about how 'poor and vulnerable' the Afghan Sikhs are. Meanwhile, the Sikhs that live in the Afghan Sikh heartlands of Hounslow and Southall in West London have seen the real side. The dark side. The people of Southall have had to watch their town become the Heroin capital of London, where there is just so much heroin that it's even cheaper in many cases than bottled water. They know who has been bringing this mind-blowing amount of heroin over and they've seen which group has gone from paupers to flashy millionairres literally overnight. Everyone of them has amassed an amazing amount of money over the course of a few years and we all know how they've done it.....we especially know when working class Sikhs in Southall keep dying of drug overdoses, but now, thankfully, the Police and national serious crime squads have started their crackdown. Just one little group of 5 of them were found with millions in cash and kilos of heroin. Hopefully, the police will go after the rest of them too.

And are the Sikhs who do drug dealing in Canada all Afghan Sikhs aswell?

  9. There is a new law regarding granting persecuted minority's from India's neighbouring countries the right to move to India and seek citizenship.

However the law excludes Muslims from comming to India.

There's been some protests about this in India. Anyone think it's a good they have done this?

Muslims have been complaining that their people have been excluded.

I thought as a positive, informative post, lets share punjabi food recipes and channels to help educate the youth on our beautiful cuisines and dishes.

One good channel I found was Punjabi Veg Recipes: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-ND4aBWR5mlYxxZVBZm7fA

Below are some of the recipes we've tried and taste nice:

    Roti (the essentials ? )

Barfi (to wash it down with? )

We all know that they are all your personal recipes. lol

    Thanks for sharing.

So......I conducted a little experiment. I took these 4 languages:

    • Punjabi
    • Bengali
    • Gujarati
    • Hindi

and I did a Google News search for each of them.

    Here's the results:

    • Bengali = The results pretty much reflected the fact that it was a 'news' search and the results were a healthy mix of news and high-brow experimental type cinema culture
    • Hindi = You got exactly what it says on the tin with this one. The 'news' search brought up general news.
    • Gujarati = Mostly a healthy mix of business news, exam news and cuisine.
    • Punjabi = Singing and dancing.  Nothing but singing and dancing. Occasional food item but the rest of it almost entirely singing and dancing. You even try and click on some random page, like page 3 or page 4 hoping and praying you'll find something other than singing and dancing.....But no. Even on page 3, 4 and 17 etc there is nothing but singing and dancing.

Is this really what we've been reduced to now ?  ?

That probably has to do with Punjabi film and music being universally popular. Hence the search results will reflect what people mostly look for. These people may not even be Sikh.

Ie Gujarati music is only popular with Gujaratis. Bengali music is only popular with Bengalis.

But Punjabi food music and culture is popular with all ethnicities. Hence google. Will show what most people look for. Ie music film and food.

When someone asks why Sikhs don't cut their hair, most people on the internet and in real life try to be oversmart and end up giving stupid reasons.

Like "hair is a gift from god and we honor that" or "it makes us stand out"  or "we maintain the form that god gave us" . Even if these bs answers are partially true, these are not the reason we keep our hair. So why do we keep our hair? Because the Guru said so. Simple as that. [ Sikh - student (of the Guru) ]

So when someone asks you, Why do you not cut your hair? Answer, because My Guru said so.

And if we cut our hair are we no longer Sikh? Are people with Kesh and dhari better then someone like a buddist monk who shaves his head? Or anyone that shaves his head for that matter.

Also reminds of of this annoying kid. Who wore a parka. He used to go around saying to people. 'Are you a true Sikh'?

When he himself engaged in all kinds of bad behaviours but thought he was saint because he wore the turban.

Some old people can be really snappy and rude, like some of the old people at my gurdwara. The old ladies in the langar kitchen are the worst. when you walk into the langar hall kitchen they stare at you as if you just crossed a marked/sprayed territory that you shouldn't have crossed.

I understand that their own houses have probably been taken over by their daughter in laws and that they dont have the mukhtiaree that they once probably had but that dont mean they behave as if they own the langar hall.

Some of these little old ladies are spiteful and vicious

That is actually quite true. These women live off hate. It's like some kind of energy for them.

Why behave like this in a Gurdwara of all places. Where respect and love should be given.

It's not only the old women folk though. I've seen some old men act like that to. These people should not be allowed in the Gurdwara if they are going to behave so hostile and rudely. It can actually put off the youngsters from going if they comes across such miserable and rude people.

Its definitely a experience going to punjab.  Iv been to all takht sahibs apart from takht Patna sahib.  I want to go to hemkund sahib.

I also wanna go rakab ganj sahib delhi and paonta sahib.

Going Harmandir sahib and hazur sahib are experiences that you will never forget and once you have been your soul will keep wanting to take you back.  they truly are sachkhand on earth.

Apart from that the punjabi countryside is beautiful   and the sunset and sunrise are breathtaking.

Hearing the granthi read japji sahib at amrit vela through the gurdwara speakers while you are still tucked in bed is really nice, one of the best things about your visit actually.  Hearing bani being read out loud in the pind through the speakers sounds amazing  especially early in the mornings when it's still dark.

Downside is the corruption.  Though some people are bad and take advantage some people are really nice and helpful    when you get lost while travelling and ask one person for help  10 people will come towards you all wanting to give directions lol.

Our car broke down in the middle of the fields and this grandad with his grandson who were working in their fields came to us and started fixing our car for us   grandad even told his grandson to go back to their house and get the tractor to pull the car all the way to our our pind if needed

People from cities tend to be rude and not wanting to help iv noticed!

Maybe he just couldn't stand you guys .So wanted to fix your car as fast as possible to get you out of there. Lol

  15. To be honest apart from the Gurdwaras of Punjab. I don't think to much of the place.

Having been s few times. It seems quite a boring and bland place.

The only good thing are the greenery.

Places such as Tamil Nadu, Chennai, Bombay are fare better.

It’s time to kick out the terrorists.

The west made a mistake of letting them in.

They praise their Muslim lands yet choose to live in the west.

They live in ghettos and don’t integrate because of Islam.

Yep down with Muslims and Sikhs are the bestest ??

Can we come out with some kind of award for Sikhs being so good?

It is a realistic attitude. You can give the approach a go but it will be futile.

There are some ground realities that one must understand, it is only then a realistic solution can be found.

    Have you tried it?

    Excellent post.  Brilliantly put together!

My personal view based upon my own interactions with people who live up to these man made classes are as follows:

Upper Class - People born into a system that generally favours them in all walks of life.  They do appreciate people who work hard and generally enjoy breaking free once in while to let off some steam to escape the pressures which they have been groomed for.  Their worst traits are generally ingrained into them as they have very little interaction outside their own class.  Money isn’t really an issue and neither is the need to flash it with these people.

Middle Class - People trying so hard to please the upper class for acceptance.  These people mould into this class over time, generally as the wealth increases.  They distance themselves from their beginnings and start to sound very different.  They think very carefully before stringing a sentence together, just to insure it is made up of big words and more of them to explain what could be said in just a few.  Not much different from Politicians really.  Every purchase these people make is based upon what the Joneses are doing and for how they are perceived in society.  They are not generally rich but have disposable incomes which allows them to mimic the upper classes.  They are probably the most judgemental and possess the worst traits out of all the classes.

Working Class - People of the soil who are generally ‘what you see is what you get’.  Not much mystery with these people, blunt and completely in touch with the ground.  These people can also be the most charitable as well as they understand struggle.  They don’t sound very eloquent but that is not a measure of intelligence, so don’t be fooled by this.

You mentioned all the classes. but missed out the most important class. What about the the lower class. people who are on the streets. yet you fist focused on the upper class and forgot entirely about the the lower class. Are they not worthy of a mention?

  19. 2 hours ago, Ranjeet01 said:

That is going to be difficult because the youngsters will find them or perceive them to be unapproachable.

Also, Gurdwarae have become day care centres for the elderly and they normally group together and chat in their own social circles.

That is a very pessimistic attitude. It is worth trying to engage different age groups to a get dialogue going and social cohesion. Rather then think all oldies are the same.
