  1. once we have started doing things ourselves and show we care. maybe Mr Sohi will take us seriously and listen and take some action. if not then we will have to orgainse that too. we can get quotes from different places for windows, repair jobs etc and then tell Mr Sohi we've done alll the running around all he needs to do is kindly put the sangat's donation to some use. so everyone should sign the petition, it will come in good us for wehn we need to speck to the committee. but lets not get ahead of ourselves lets work on the basics, e.g getting everyone togther. but keep posting suggestions and questions, hopefuly this will be a long term thing
  2. wjkk wjkf nice to see so many ppl getting involved. i'm really sorry i can't make it this sunday, but we can still get togther on saturday and see what will suit the sangat best and who can make it back for sunday. try and get as many ppl as u can to come along it will hopefully be easier to decide on a day once we've all met
  3. do you have a rough estimate of how many ppl u can get togther,
  4. whatever is best for the majourity of the sangat. keep posting suggestions for times and day, we can make a final descision friday evening.
  5. great to know we are on the way. that makes three of us now my brother is coming along, need a few more ppl 9 oclock is fine. crazy that the commitee has a problem with the sangat doing seva, we can deal with that once we get started. great to see your so enhustastic but how about we strat with just saturdays because i'm not from southall bit of a problem coming in both days. Hope the rest of the sangat is thinking about it!!!!
  6. Wjkk Wjkf brand names make u look like a walking advert. everyone should read 'No Logo' by Naomi Klein, that will put u off brand names forever knowing how they exploit workers.
  7. waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh. I really respect the investigation work carried out, definatley get a job in our local council health and saftey department. i think we should take some direct action before getting in contact with the commitee, because they will probably want to set up a cleaning commitee. knowing how they like to slow eveything down with bureacracy. how about we alll get togther this saturday morning at 10 am, at park avenue gurdwara, we can see what needs doing and what we can do. to start off i'm sure we can put in a couple of pounds each to get some cleaning things and just do the basics e.g cleaning windows, toilets, sinks etc. we can then move on to havelock road. hopefully once we've got a few more ppl we can have two groups one at each gurdwara. once the commitee see we are willing to do the seva maybe they will help as out and listen to other suggestions we have about broken windows etc who knows this idea might catch on in other gurdwaras, followed by 'how clean is your gurdwara?' (channel 4 show). leave a post to say your interested and if you want to change time or day hopefully this will take off.
  8. wjkk wjkf i think we should support these women in what they're doing. we also ned to look at our own religion and how lucky we are that it alllows equality. this has always been a question that i never got an answer for at darbar shahib, when the sangat clean the whole of the complex before amritvela women are allowed to take part. however if you ask one of the sevdars there. only a select few can go in to harminder shahib to help with the seva and they all have to be men. does any one know why this is?
  9. wjkk wjkf i think this is a brillant idea, just as long as it doesn't become totally profit driven. sorry for sounding boring but i think certain ethical issues need to be taken in to consideration e.g where the materials come form etc. i think 'Charhdikalaa' should do as much as possible to support punjabi farmers buying cotton from them etc. bcz u know how the issue is always on the news. and using wood from sustainable resources. just a suggestion. i should pratice what i preach!!!
  10. waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh. i know ur thinking who's this i've been checking the site out for a while just never replied don't really have much to say just here to learn but when i first read your msg i was shocked i had to reply. last night i was justly tellin my younger brother about you and how ur such an inspiration, not being from a sikhi family and wanting to learn so much about sikhi i understand it has been reallly hard for you. i just want you to think. once sikhi has touched your life u cant turn away form it no matter how much u try. what if u decide 'that's it i will do only what my parents say'. few days or if you try weeks later, you will find that u can't live without sikhi and feel u can't stop urself going to the gurdwara, doing simran. is it not better for u to be totally honest with ur parents now and live with the consquences, than having to lie to them and them finding out later. trust waheguru one day they will recognise ur determination and be soooooo proud of you and who knows they my even recognise that sikhi is also the way for them. it happens! stay strong, i'm sure your parents will admire your detemination and realise that this is more than just a phase ur going through. hope this makes some sense
