    Ik▫oaʼnkār saṯgur parsāḏ.

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

    Mil pancẖahu nahī sahsā cẖukā▫i▫ā.

Meeting with the council, my doubts were not dispelled.

    Sikḏārahu nah paṯī▫ā▫i▫ā.

The chiefs did not give me satisfaction.

    Umrāvahu āgai jẖerā.

I presented my dispute to the noblemen as well.

    ਮਿਲਿ ਰਾਜਨ ਰਾਮ ਨਿਬੇਰਾ ॥੧॥

    Mil rājan rām niberā. ||1||

But it was only settled by meeting with the King, my Lord. ||1||

    Ab dẖūdẖan kaṯahu na jā▫ī.

Now, I do not go searching anywhere else,

because I have met the Guru, the Lord of the Universe. ||Pause||

When I came to God's Darbaar, His Holy Court,

    Ŧā saglī mitī pūkārā.

then all of my cries and complaints were settled.

    Labaḏẖ āpṇī pā▫ī.

Now that I have attained what I had sought,

Ŧā kaṯ āvai kaṯ jā▫ī. ||2||

where should I come and where should I go? ||2||

    Ŧah sācẖ ni▫ā▫e niberā.

    There, true justice is administered.

    Ūhā sam ṯẖākur sam cẖerā.

There, the Lord Master and His disciple are one and the same.

    Anṯarjāmī jānai.

The Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts, knows.

    ਬਿਨੁ ਬੋਲਤ ਆਪਿ ਪਛਾਨੈ ॥੩॥

    Bin bolaṯ āp pacẖẖānai. ||3||

Without our speaking, He understands. ||3||

He is the King of all places.

    Ŧah anhaḏ sabaḏ agājā.

There, the unstruck melody of the Shabad resounds.

    Ŧis pėh ki▫ā cẖaṯurā▫ī.

Of what use is cleverness when dealing with Him?

    ਮਿਲੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਈ ॥੪॥੧॥੫੧॥

    Mil Nānak āp gavā▫ī. ||4||1||51||

Meeting with Him, O Nanak, one loses his self-conceit. ||4||1||51||

  2. Was reading the arth of a tuk in Prof Sahib Singh teeka, can someone please kindly translate the arth of one line? I want to understand it clearly. I would really appreciate it.

    The gurbani tuk is:

and the arth given by Prof Sahib Singh Ji is:

Also if possible can someone also please translate the freedkot teeka arth:

    Thanks in advance.

  4. its not a silly question

no offence to the sister in the video, but that is not a gurmat dastar. a gurmat dastar should not be folded, knotted or twisted. all styles of dastar employ the same tying method regardless of if you are a singh or singhni

the following link is the correct way to tie a gol dastar, the only wrong thing is that the penji did not put a knot through her joora, only coiled it. the joora should always be knotted:

  5. Welcome Akiva,

I'm not totally sure about who you could contact in Israel, however you may wish to try to contact, 'Bhai Sahib' Mohinder Singh Ji of the Nishkam Sevak Jatha, who may be able to point you in the right direction -

    T : 0121 551 1125

    F : 0121 551 0022

    E : info@gnnsj.org

They went as part of a Sikh delegation to Israel in 2005, you can read about the very interesting trip here http://www.jpost.com/JewishWorld/JewishFeatures/Article.aspx?id=8734

  6. From an organiser of the event :

the Nanakshahi Calendar is used from an administrative and social perspective, and with that in mind Chet (mid-March) is indeed the beginning of the calendar year. However, as New Year also represents a new beginning, it is not incorrect to say that the Sikh New Year is celebrated on Vaisakhi. As all amritdharis will tell you (well this one anyway!) Vaisakhi represents my New Year, my birthday, my emancipation. How lucky are Sikhs?! We get two New Years! Oh the fun we are going to have with two new year celebrations...
  7. Exactly, Singhstah . Glad you see how thick it would be to criticise an old man just for passing the time by doing a bit of work as an extra here and there. Although I think you're being a bit harsh on some of your colleagues here for doing so. 'Thick' is too strong a word.

Sorry I'll be sure to spell out exactly what I mean in the simplest of terms in the future so as to avoid any misunderstanding. For anyone to assume they can with the roop of a saabat soorat Sikh appear in an alcohol advert without any backlash from the community is either naive or just plain stupid. Either that or they don't care.

There was a time when we chose death over compromising our principles, even with the offer of riches, titles, women etc.

Nowadays it seems a quick buck is worth spitting in the face of our Guru.

  8. Imagine this scenario : You're old. You're retired. Bills are getting higher. Pension's being cut. Health is getting worse sitting around the house. You sign up with an acting agency for bit walk-in parts as an extra. They phone you up to do an advert. Makes a nice day out. Keeps you busy and the money'll come in handy too.

Never in a million years would you think the fall out of it would be a bunch of youngsters criticising you on the internet for doing so.

    Only if your pretty thick.
