Guroo Pyaree SadhSangat jeeo,
On Monday 16th of March 2009 a fire broke out at Gurdwara Sikh Sangat, Harley Grove in Bow (East London) which destroyed over 75% of the Gurdwara Sahib complex. The most painful consequence of the fire was that 11 blessed saroops of our beloved Sat-guru, Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji were burnt along with countless Gutke and Pothi Sahibs.
In remembrance there will be a Chaupai Sahib Jaap on Wednesday 16th March 2011 from 12PM to 6PM followed by Rehras Sahib and Kirtan till 9PM.
Location: Mata Sahib Kaur Academy
8 Oaks Lane
Newbury Park
Ilford

I can't make it to this, but everyone who can please do so in remembrance.

lighting and possibly to give a nice smell, nothing more than that. There is no compulsion to have a jot or diva, only if it actually needed does it need to be used.

CORRECT TIME FOR THE PRAYER CALLED CHANDI
DI VAAR
Baba Ji used to recite the prayer called Chandi di Vaar daily, as
part of his Nitnem. This is a prayer composed by the tenth Guru,
describing a battle between demons and the Goddess called Chandi. It
is usually recited by Sikhs during war. Many a time, a question would
arise in his mind as to, how many times and at what time one should
recite the prayer of Chandi di Vaar? Baba Ji asked many Saints and
sadhus regarding this question, but could not get a satisfactory answer.
One evening, at his room in the fields, after reciting the evening
prayer of Rehras, Baba Ji went on to recite the prayer of Chandi di
Vaar. After completing this prayer, he prepared to retire by saying his
last prayer of Sohila. It was a moonlit night and the doors of the room in
which he was sitting, were open. As he had just lain down, he noticed
two men approaching at a short distance. Baba Ji thought to himself,
that if these pedestrians were just travellers, he would offer them food
and shelter for the night and if they were robbers, then he would
challenge them in combat. No sooner had this thought entered his mind,
than miraculously one of the Singh’s came beside him and grabbed his
feet. The other one seized Baba Ji’s head and pinned him down onto
the bed. Baba Ji used to tell us, ‘‘I was unable to move from the bed. A
thought entered my mind that these two, who have moved faster than
the speed of light in order to grasp me are neither robbers nor travellers.
These two must be Shaheed Singhs (the immortal souls of Sikh martyrs).
I began to recite the Mool mantar. I had only uttered the Mool mantar
twice when the Singh who held my head down, let go, followed by the
second Singh who was holding my feet.”
Baba Ji got up and the Shaheed Singh explained, ‘‘We did not
come here to fight with or seize you, but to answer your question,
regarding the correct time to recite the prayer of Chandi di Vaar. As
you thought about offering us a fight, we came and immediately seized
you, as we did.” The Shaheed Singh continued, ‘‘If you start reciting
the prayer of Chandi di Vaar after sunset then, one must keep reciting it
continuously through the night until dawn. Two or more Singhs may
take turns to recite this prayer through the night, it is all right to do so.
One must sit upon a clean mat or bed, bathing before reciting the prayer.
An oil lamp lit with clarified butter should be kept alight throughout the
night. During the day, one can recite Chandi di Vaar as many times as
one wants. There is no specific practice to reciting the prayer except
that one reads the prayer with devotion and understanding.” After
explaining these instructions, the Singh’s disappeared through the doors
towards the direction they came from.

A jathedar + Panj Pyare under the leadership of Satguru Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj should run Gurdware. Obviously this would entail all of the individuals being amritdhari.

Hi Avtar. I hope my reply will help you but yet agian many religious questions have a response which is subjective more than objective. Well looking at it generally all religions be it any, want their children to marry from the same religion. I think its the way we humans have divided our selves. We say we are all equal (Avan allah noor upaya gudrat ke sabh bande) and yet we divide our selves at times. Its not that a muslim, christain etc person is any way different from a sikh. It is just that our beliefs are different.
My personel opinion is some one should not marry from outside their religion because it has some extra complications and the main one being whicvh religion your child will follow, then will the person survive with the partner when following different rules/ beliefs. At the end God is one, but then we have different ways of living and someone marrying another person from another religion may have some complications. It may be easy to say fine one child will follow religion A and the other B, but its difficult in practice.
I have a friend who wants to marry a hindu and she is a close friend and the only advice i gave her is will her parents be happy and will u continue to be a sikh. I asked her never to leave sikhi after all what Guru ji's have done for us. She said her bf said she will be allowed to follow and i had told her its easy 2 say...once sum1 gets married and it is usually seen that the husband religion previals over the whole family. Yet again her parents are religious and she told me that she doesnt want to leave the boy because its her first love. The answer for that is every 1s first love is their mom...moment we are born we are so close with our mom. So if first love is a factor then its her mom and her parents she should follow because they will want the best for you.
I hope i may have helped a bit. And im sorry for any wrong sayings or so :-).
Not only that, but will she be pressured into also doing Hindu rituals and fasting? Most importantly what about the children, what religion will they follow?
These are all things people don't seem to think about, or if they do, they don't care because they are more interested in having a cozy life than following Sikhi.

A simply disgraceful video. He clearly has no understanding whatsoever of bibek.
Caste discrimination is based on someone's birth, bibek is based on someone's actions.
He says following bibek makes people seperate, it does so no more than having a dastar and wearing the kakkars. Does he also think we should stop that?
People should refrain from acting as authorities on issues they have no clue about.
When talking about Guru Nanak Dev Ji's sakhi of the blood from food, he says Guru Nanak Dev Ji was doing it to teach those particular people, absolute rubbish as Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj says:
ਪਰਥਾਇ ਸਾਖੀ ਮਹਾ ਪੁਰਖ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਸਾਝੀ ਸਗਲ ਜਹਾਨੈ ॥
Parthā▫e sākẖī mahā purakẖ bolḏe sājẖī sagal jahānai.
Great men speak the teachings by relating them to individual situations, but the whole world shares in them.
That sakhi is proof that bibek is Gurmat, so all he can do is try to disprove that we should strive to follow it.
And on top of that hes saying Singhs ate horses when they ran out of food. Someone with such views should not be making videos, atleast on these topics. He is only correct in saying we should not eat meat.

Thanks for the advice everyone.
I just dont feel happy in London. and I dont think I will ever be. Im not the best when i come to social skills and have always been quite shy and reserved person which just makes my situation worse.
At the moment I also live in East London which isnt the best area to be in.
London does have it plus points. But if your not happy here then it doesnt mean anything. Sometimes I feel that moving was the worst deciion I have ever made. I have struggled to make any decent friends. its just been one disaster after another. I dont think ill ever fit in here. because most southerners dont like northerners and vice verser. I also find that I have to pretend to be someone I'm not. Back home I could act and talk the way I wanted. But down here I have to hold back. because most people are predijuce against northern people.
Lol don't diss East London! haha joking <img src='http://www.sikhsangat.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> As londoner I can say I am most certainly not prejudice against northern people, neither is anyone I know.
Come to Friday Simran sessions at Singh Sabha Gurdwara Seven Kings (next to homebase), you can meet gursikhs here as well as get laha! They take place every week from 7:30pm-9:00pm. There is also a simran session at karamsar gurdwara sahib ilford every thursday 8:30pm to 9:15pm. Sangat is smaller in East London than other places but its still good! Last saturday of every month there is a keertan darbar at 7 kings singh sabha aswell.
<self edit> Please let me know if you want to know anything more about Sangat in East London.

Keep it cool guys, this is an emotional topic for all of us let alone for those who knew him well. In my opinion its best to leave the speculation until more news comes to light. It was only yesterday everyone was pointing the finger at GOI, I think the last 24 hours should teach us all not to jump the gun and to give time for more information to become available before reaching any conclusions.

It's our own fault and nothing but. Guru Nanak Dev Ji's Sikhi has people running towards it, the Sikhi of many 'Sikhs' today has people running away from it. Such an equal philosophy which seats Bhagat Ravidas Sahib Ji's bani at the highest place of all should be filled to the brim with those who suffer caste prejudice elsewhere, as it did when our Guru Sahibs did parchar of Sikhi while in physical bodies. The problem is clearly with us, the Guru Panth.

In sangat of true Gursikhs you will never feel this way but you will feel more at home than you do in your house! Just do lots of ardaas to maharj for sangat of true gursikhs/gurmukhs and increase the bani and naam everything will be fine if/when God is pleased
