Umdat ut tawarikh is a huge persian granth written in 5 volumes (called Daftars) by Lala Sohan Lal Suri who was the official chronicler, record keeper and diplomatic representative (Vakil) of Maharaja Ranjit Singh and his successors and even British Residents after the annexation of Punjab. Suri writes: In 1830, all the chieftains and Sardars enthusiastically engaged themselves in the preparation of their garments for the dussehra day.Celebrations of dussehra were begun by worshiping of horse, cannon and sword according to the advice of the Brahmans. The Maharaja then visited Harmandir Sahib, took sacred bath, made prostration and offered large sums of money as ardas in different bungas and other places. The poor and needy shared his bounty, as the Maharaja showered money with both hands.

Just posting this up to make it easier for sikhs to find out about how we are meant to celebrate Navratri and Dusshera. There is actually something similar for Diwali as well where Dasvin 10th Patshah actually uses the word 'Diwali'! Hopefully I will find it before Diwali. https://www.facebook.com/652447751445011/photos/navratri-and-dushera-are-days-to-do-shastra-puja-the-nine-nights-of-naurate-star/995158367173946/ Since this post contains content objectionable to some jathe, I guess you will need to lock this. However please at least leave this post up so sikhs know how to celebrate Navratri and Dusshera, and can see the historical quotes.

Guru Gobind Singh Jee at the end of 'Ramavatar' in Sri Dasam Granth has writtten : ਸਾਧ à¨à¨¸à¨¾à¨§ à¨à¨¾à¨¨à© ਨਹ੠ਬਾਦ ਸà©à¨¬à¨¾à¨¦ ਬਿਬਾਦਿ ॥ à¨à©à¨°à©°à¨¥ ਸà¨à¨² ਪà©à¨°à¨£ à¨à©à¨¯à© à¨à¨à¨µà¨¤à¨¿ à¨à©à¨°à¨¿à¨ªà¨¾ ਪà©à¨°à¨¸à¨¾à¨¦à¨¿ ॥੮੬੨॥ It is difficult to decide who was a saint and who was not; it is a contentious issue. My job was to complete this epic with the grace of God which I have done In Sri Dasam Grant, Guru Jee also says that both Raam and Krishan are subject to Kaal. So, why do nihangs celebrate the victory of raam over ravana? thanks
