  4. Vaheguroo jee Ka Khalsa, Vaheguroo jee kee fateh! JUST A QUICK UPDATE, With vaheguroos Kirpa the website www.desirags.co.uk has taken down the tshirt. They sent this email:- Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh. Thank you for your e-mail in respect of our Super Onkar design. You will be pleased to know that we have now withdrawn the design from our website. We received a barrage of e-mails after having had appeared at the Handsworth Mela, Birmingham, on Sunday 26th April 2009. Whilst we were at the Mela we were approached by a group of pacifist individuals who explained that although they particularly liked some of our other designs they felt that tees relating to this specific design were open to abuse in that they could be washed with other unclean laundry or that the person wearing the tee could find themselves exposed to an environment where alcoholic drinks or cigarette smoke was prevalent and therefore this could lead to the degradation of the first word of the sacred Mool Mantar. We want to make clear that you were not alone in expressing your concern as to the use of the first phrase of Guru Granth Sahib Ji - Ek Onkar – on one of our tees. It is also important to clarify why we initially sought to release the design. We ourselves are Sikhs and as two brothers who have independent careers (a Solicitor and a Doctor), we saw Desirags.co.uk as an important medium not only to promote our vibrant culture but also to showcase the cornerstone symbol of our religion and the important message that it carries. Upon launching the design, the concerns that have since been expressed did indeed cross our minds and were discussed at some length, but at the time we felt that the positive message that the design carried far outweighed any negative feedback that it may well attract. We did not envisage that anybody purchasing the tee would openly abuse the same – how could they? Surely they wouldn’t purchase the tee to wear to a public house or to go to a nightclub? With hindsight, we firmly believe that nobody would purchase the tee in order to deliberately abuse it. However, we do accept that anybody wearing the tee could find themselves in a situation or an environment whereby, although it may not be intentional on their part, acts which degrade or undermine a hugely important aspect of our faith and religion are taking place – would Desirags.co.uk be contributing to the degradation? We feel that we would and therefore have immediately pulled the design and removed it from our website. We would also like to mention that it was not our intention to release the design in order to profiteer from it or to gain mass recognition from the same, rather it was an idea that we thought would ultimately help our current generation in understanding an important tenet of our religion. We would like to direct a big thank you to the kind youths that approached us at the event, in a pacifist manner, in order to relay their viewpoints and concerns. We all make mistakes and you can only learn from a mistake after you’ve admitted it – desirags.co.uk is a newly established business and it’s evident we are still finding our feet. We have learnt an important lesson during our ‘teething’ stages and hope that with Baba ji’s mehr we will grow bigger and stronger as a result. We apologise if we have caused offence or distress to anyone and trust that you will support our venture with your fullest vigour. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh. Kindest regards Gurvinder & Amardeep Desirags.co.uk ----------------------------------------

  15. waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh... I was in college a few days ago and a friend of mine asked me why I wore a dastar and was not allowed to cut my hair.. I gave the following answers but I want to know if I said anything wrong or what I missed out, So in future, when I get asked these questions I can answer in more detail.. Plus i’m always asked these kind of questions as the number of Sikhs in ma college is VERY little... Kesh.. God has put hair on our body.. We believe that We should preserve our body just as god has made us.. If god didn't want us to have hair then he would have made us all bold.. Also when a Gursikh meditates on gods name we believe that each strand of hair also vibrates on his name.. Dastar... well firstly it is our uniform.. as when one is wearing a Dastar, it can be recognised from anywhere.. Secondly it is to cover our heads as we should be meditating on the name of god 24-7.. as u see Muslims, Jews and even the Pope cover there heads at time of pray as a sign or respect and humbleness .. It is also to protect our hair as it is such a strong part of our religion.. and back in the days only kings and people with a high name (such as guru ji) used to wear turbans... so in the same way we wear turbans.. This also reminds us not to act like an <banned word filter activated> but to have a high character of a king/guru... This also shows that all us brothers and sisters are equal.. We don’t have a rule that if you are a certain caste you cant wear a turban.. We are one family.. In our history we have had so much pain and suffering as a result of our beliefs. Just going back 3 to 4 hundred years ago Sikhs were wrapped in wool and burned alive, Thrown into boiling oil, cut in half, had their scalps ripped off, rolled on wheels with blades and sooooo much more. Thousands and thousands of Sikhs have died so we Sikhs can keep our hair and wear a turban today .. So this is why I feel so passionately about keeping my Hair and wearing a turban. Why jeopardise something by my own will… when soooooo many Sikhs died for their beliefs… As u can probably tell it sounds quite made up... so help me out.. It’s a frequently asked question as this is what mostly makes us stand out from the rest....

  19. Guru fateh ji... At the moment im at Mattew Boulton.. Yep i agree with ya mann if they see a Singhni.. or even beter yet a Singhni with a dastar.. theyl be on top of ya! to try and convert you!.. I would take a rough guess that the population of Muslims is about 95% in that College.. The college it self is WIKID!! and when you first get there ul realise the Muslims are SOOOOOOOO nice to you.. i made sooooo many friends.. but then half way through the year when there your good friends.. theyl try convert ya.. take it from som1 whos been there and "got the t-shirt"... I experienced it twice.. they are soooooooo clever.. they can make Islam make sooooooo much sence and make you think "man if you dont convert.. your going to go to hell".. and they can make you question your own religion.. thats what a sycological effect it can have on ya.. After readin that n you still decide to come to MBC... then no probs.. il help ya out.. im still there for another year.. hehehe ... (i could do with some brothers n sisters.. who have got ma back lol) fateh ji
