Canadian Sikhs demand printing press for Guru Granth Sahib saroops in North America Surrey, 8th Jul 2014 In a joint letter by management of various Gurdwaras in different states of Canada, a request has been raised to SGPC for allowing publication of the Guru Granth Sahib by setting up a printing press in orth America. The letter states that with the growth of Sikh Community in western countries, the request for Guru Granth Sahib jis saroops have increased too and it is not possible to abide by complete Guru Maryada while transporting the saroops from India. The Canadian Sikhs have stated that full efforts will be done to maintain dignity of printing at the proposed Press in North America. At times, Sikhs residing abroad had to wait for a long period to get their copy of the Guru Sahib saroop due to limited publication as well as transportation hassles. As of now, The SGPC is transporting the saroops to Sikhs residing abroad by air. In certain instances, affluent Sikh NRIs had even sent chartered aircraft from other countries to get saroops of Guru Granth Sahib ji. On each such flight, the holy scripture is kept separately on each seat of the aircraft after following the religious maryada (decorum). SGPC-appointed sewadars (volunteers) accompany the scriptures on such flights. In 2010, SGPC had also planned to set up a printing facility in North Carolina in the US on a 2.5 acres land but the project never took off. There is no facility for printing copies of the holy book or birs and these are exported to gurdwaras in the US, the UK and Europe. Even previously, this request has been raised by Sikh organisations abroad to SGPC but it seems to be getting on and off with no actual results so far. I remember some preacher saying that monetary offering was introduced during Guru Ramdas Sahib ji's time. Probably during construction of Sri Harmandar Sahib Amritsar. According to Gurmat "maya is gujraan" meaning a mode of buying basic necessities. It is ok to earn maya as a matter of need but a Gursikh must avoid being greedy. I am talking about pioneers not stereo types. Bhai Daya Singh ji Bhai Dharam Singh ji Bhai Himmat Singh ji Bhai Mohkam Singh ji Bhai Sahib Singh ji If it suits jathebandi's they say it's authentic, tradition or Rehat. But when it comes to sacrifice they go in hiding. Doing Seva of Punj Piyaras is a full time job. Part timers & Grehasti have been a disaster, look at the state of Panth. Pseudo leaders are busy promoting their blood relations, where is the merit ? Ask them how did they amass their wealth. It should all be taken & attached to Gurdwara assets. Being one of Punj Piyaras means having guts got nothing to do with singing Keertan or having Gian. What you have is mismatch of skills & the job.

We are talking about Punj Piyaras, one Singh how so ever great cannot supersede them !

Waheguru ji ka khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh Amrit Sanchaar or the process has evolved over period of time. It is common sense that Guru Gobind Singh Sahib ji gave Khalsa the long Kirpan (being wartime). I don't know if the selection process of Punj Piyaras is defined by Guru Sahib or is it a matter of tradition. If it's tradition then how come married old Singhs are doing Seva of Punj Piyaras. We all know that Punj Piyaras were young-unmarried Sikhs. Fact is they never went back to their families after taking Khandey di pahul. Civilian life is very different from that of Armed forces so those willing to sacrifice should follow this path. Lastly, Sikhs need young leaders/volunteers to serve the Panth. Haryana announces separate Sikh panel for its Gurdwaras IANS | Chandigarh July 6, 2014 Last Updated at 16:18 IST Bowing to the demand of Sikh leadership from the state, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda Sunday announced that a separate Sikh body would be set up to run the affairs of gurdwaras (Sikh shrines) in Haryana. The announcement, which was being speculated on for the past few days, was formally made by Hooda at a Sikh conference in Haryana's Kaithal town, 140 km from here, Sunday. It was greeted by a thunderous applause by the gathering. The move was strongly opposed by the Amritsar-based Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), the mini-parliament of Sikh religious affairs, which currently controls gurdwaras across Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. Punjab's ruling Shiromani Akali Dal, which dominates the SGPC, also opposed the Haryana move and had even sought the Centre's intervention in the matter. The Haryana government is likely to bring a legislation in the forthcoming assembly session next week to enable the creation of a new Sikh body to manage gurdwaras and Sikh affairs in Haryana. Tell them that you are willing to do Seva - Hoover, washing dishes, mop the kitchen+langar floors. As they are always short on Sevadars.
