  1. i think the beat is nice, but the the flow is too choppy, could be smoother. i cant understand what youre saying either, try losing the uk accent.
  2. why is it in that east coast canada, montreal and toronto, still use milk bags when the rest of the country has switched a very long time ago? i know this is nothign to do with sikhi...jsut something very weird i started wondering lately.... :T:
  3. indeed, why not book it earlier? however, them not getting gurdwars is not just in edmonton, its in many other cities across north america. Last year in Toronto, it was in a fair grounds. Maharaj saroop was in the fair ground house where parties go on. the langar was in the hall which the cows are tied up for the show. saadh sangat is nice and all because they do sewa, but it all goes to waste when they disrespect Guruji in the sake of their own 'convenience'. as well, the year before it was in a community center where parties go on. there must be a reason this particular sangat doesnt get much gurdwara time, maybe one of their members can explain this.
  4. maaalton, your points are childish. instead of giving this guy some proper advice, you are encouraging him to steer himself into the wrong path. however, there were some good points made by others, hopefully chaatrik can overcome his difficulties. As well, stop representing Malton when you do not even live there. You cant represent something you are not part of.
  5. Maalton, the point i was trying to make is that we must be more responsible of our actions, and to be aware of the reprocussions of using our kakars when engaging in a fight. I pointed out that as sikhs we should defend ourselves within the same power used against us, its usually defined as the 'neccesary force' required. If someone comes at us with a fist, and we shoot him, thats 'unecessary' force used. There are certain degrees of self defense we are allowed to follow. This is applies to Sikhi and to regular life as well. You say this, but you have already proven my point after you wrote: You also said fighting with fists wasnt working for him:
  6. maalton, you make it out to be so easy to just take your kakar off and hit somebody. Just like its Gurujis distar, its also his kara too. By hitting someone with it is disrespecting the Guruji. As a Sikh, we are only allowed to defend ourselves within the same power, so unless he or she hits you with a blunt metal object, i suggest you keep your kara on your wrist. I dont mean to be disrespectful, but Sikhs of today are physically weak compared to what they should be, and there is no denying this. There is a alot of talk about what people are going to do in the battle for Khalistan and in the jungs, but there is little done when it comes to these smaller matters. An simple suggestion is to become stronger as an indivual so you are easily able to defend yourself without reliance on anyone else. That is the easiest way out of it. You can argue that its a Sikhs right to practice his religion freely, and it should be that way. But remember that we are still living in their country, like it or not. As much as we dont want to admit it, that is the reality of things. We have made alot of progess and theres alot left to be made. However, lets not turn the whole movement backwards and ruin what the sikhs before us worked so hard for. If the same kakars we fought s o hard to wear in the schools, are used as weopans, do you think we will be given any more freedoms? One bad apple can and will spoil the whole bunch. The point of this discussion should be to help this guy out, not to get him in further trouble.
  7. vwihgurU jI kw Kwlsw! vwihgurU jI kI &iqh!! Becuase of the number of cases of beadbi being done to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, there needs to be a solution, and quickly, before things get too late. There needs to be some stricter rules in place to safeguard the respect and dignity of Maharaj. Presently there are laws, where if violated, people and groups can be excommunicated from the panth. However, many people such as in BC, do not care. The cultural and business aspects for them having a Gurdwara far outweigh any sense of dignity or panthic duty. A possible solution to this would borrow the idea of government issued passports, licenses and other government cards where it says: "This passport is the property of the Government of Canada. It must not be altered. You must take every precaution to safeguard it....." and "This card is the property of the Ministry of Health and must be used by 'Singh'. Misuse of this card is an offense. Violators will be prosecuted. Invalid cards may be repossesed." By having all new saroops printed legally owned by Akal Takhat for example, they can have the right to immedietly seize any Saroop that is being mistreated or wrongly used. No longer will Maharaj be used to lure people to do parties in banquet halls. No longer will tables/chairs Gurdwaras be allowed to disgrace our Guru. I know you cannot put a price on Gurbani, and noone can own Gurbani because it was meant for all of humanity. But there needs to be something in place so these heinous crimes committed against Guru ji dont become the 'norm' for future generations. The last thing a Sikh wants to see is his Guru disrespected. This is just an idea, im not sure if its actually 'doable', but at least it might spark some more ideas on stopping what might just become a huge problem in the near future. If anyone else has any ideas, please share them.... vwihgurU jI kw Kwlsw! vwihgurU jI kI &iqh!!

  9. sikhs want freedom. they wouldnt mind soverignty in india with all religions living in harmony. the sad truth is that will never happen. taht is why we want our own country, where we can preserve our identity and heritage. Right now in punjab and all of india, the 'sikh' is changing. what we used to call a sikh is no longer a sikh. what we used to call a sikh, someone in full rehit, is looked upon as a fundamentalist, or someoen who is too strict. These days a person who trims is considered a Sardar. A person who says he is a sikh, is automatically a sikh. times are changing and we are letting time chagne our identity. The hindu governemnt is not destorying sikhi like they used to. before they would just kill us off..but not now. Now, they are pumping drugs into our pinds; we are geting brain washed into 'ideal' lifestyles liek those lived on Tv; by radhasuomis who offer free hospitals and medicine; by taxing the punjab much higher then everyone else.... I can go on for days....but i hope you get the picture. We need to do something, it cant be ignored. However, we need start with Gurbani. Without Gurbani we are nothing in this world. Without Gurbani, we will never be able to live a Gursikhi Jeevan. We need to educate our selves as a people, but not forget our duties to our panth. To answer you bluntly, we need to do both things. Sikhs need to rise in all areas be it education, jobs, Gurbani...everything. But to tell you the truth, there is nothing much being done other then talk. hopefully someone, something can strike that flame within the panth again...
  10. vwihgurU jI kw Kwlsw! vwihgurU jI kI &iqh!! samosasingh, you shouldnt be so quick to give people lessons on how to spell. Its Guru Nanak's name, not Guru Nanak name. The second thing i have to say is regarding your comment on 'typical dumb jats'. Being a sikh, you should not sterotype or judge anyone. Jat refers to farmers. If you want to specifically refer to Jats who promote their caste, then by all means go ahead in another thread, but you have pointlessly brought up caste in this issue. You have sterotyped a jat as being dumb. The caste system topic comes back to the jat caste all the time, even though every caste tends to only deal within its own, but thats another issue. One caste shouldnt all be singled out with the caste problem. Sikhi tackles the entire problem, not just one party involved. If for some reason i had made a comment involving those who handle the Gurdwara finances as Typical dumb Bhapay, youre telling me that you wouldnt have called me a casteist???? i wouldnt have been vilified??? If a non-jatt makes a comment like yours its acceptable, but if a jat makes a comment like that its wrong. The point is, they are A LL wrong. I might have went off on a tanget, but the main point remains that i found the comment you made offensive and totally uncalled for. This was a matter of SIKHI here and to bring up caste for any reason is unacceptable. We are Khalsa, lets help the problem, not create the problem. bhul chuk maaf vwihgurU jI kw Kwlsw! vwihgurU jI kI &iqh!!
