  1. Jeez. They were just asking. No need to be rude!

OP- I used to iron my dastar. I think its ok. But i know some people say its wrong. lol Guess that means my answer is of no help to you. :|

Why are you asking us if it is okay. If you stop worrying about what to cover the Gutka Sahib with and spend your time reading and absorbing its contents then you will find out for yourself whether or not our Guru is the type of Guru who punishes someone for ironing their Dastaar.

  2. 1. No

    2. Yes. No relationships before marriage.

  3. ^^ Calm down please, it seems you gals are reading into truthteller's post too much. It's just a play of words, no one is calling women objects.

Nope. We didn't read into it too much. Referring to us as "goods" just stuck out a bit. At least he knows to be more careful next time.

I am calm. Was just disagreeing with something another poster had said, didn't realise it would portray me as less calm.

I appreciate you asking nicely though.

  4. Er excuse me, don't talk about women as though we are possessions. We are not anyones "goods", we are people.

GOODS?! hai hai. Respect for women at it's best! *sigh*

I'm with this poster. Who cares what the guy wants? We don't give into temptations because our guru ji tells us not to. Not because we might become "tainted goods" and wont find a husband.

  5. I see this has turned into those "blaming girls topics". This time, dastaar wearing singhnia are bad? How refreshing!

You guys are obviously oblivious to how hard it is for a singhni to wear a dastaar in western society. It requires strength and love for the saroop of Guru Gobing singh jee. Accusing some of these girls of wearing it for "show" is a hurtful statement. Unless they have outright told you that it is the sole reason for them wearing it.

I believe every amritdhari bibi should wear a Keski anyway. It boosts your confidence, gives you pride for who you represent and I personally believe makes the struggle easier. People don't pressure you to do things against Sikhi principles as they understand you are serious in your Sikhi. They leave you be and respect you for it.

To conclude, the overriding reason for amritdhari bibiya to wear a dastaar is because I get really happy when I see a singhnia somewhere, randomly :)

  6. Going in circles eh?

1 side saying that gurdwara management respect shaheeds and are allowing akhand path in their memory. other side is saying that gurdwara management at first refused to respect shaheeds of 1980's and someone verbally compared shaheed singh with indira witch. But both sides agree that they don't allow posters of shaheed singhs to be posted up on property.

conclusion from 3rd party is that gurdwara management is not happy with kharkoo movement sympathizer. they also know their place where they stand and they may play around but would not dare them fully.point is that management don't like em but they have less power to stop em. indira gandhi path threat is probably spur of moment and bad example given by someone and probably realized it later on.

    How to solve it?

other side is not organized nor a group nor a registered party so can't expect them to release anything in official writing but gurdwara management is an entity and they should release a statement to destroy such rumors (if they are). Make clear statement about respecting shaheed singhs example: bhai beant singh, satwant singh and kehar singh. if they do release that then this whole is false otherwise i will consider other party truth..

  7. If members stop referring to having less hair as a "blessing" and having more hair as something they have to unfortunately deal with, it might make it easier for bibiya to cope with this. It's not a "problem", its a gift. It should be celebrated, not looked down upon.

Respect should be given to those strong enough to keep kes and those who do not go for the easy option and bleech, because well, "technically it's not cutting". ( *Sigh*)

So, i ask as a benti to the sangat, instead of saying those bibiya that naturally have less hair are "SO LUCKY", say they are less fortunate, because god didn't bless them as much!

  8. This is a very sensitive issue and the facts need to be confimred before randomly sending around messages like this.

I have just spoken to someone in the committee there and and as it appears the ex-comittee and present are using this senitive issue to put each other down.

He said that they were NOT planning to hold an akhand paath for Indiara Gandhi and they were not going stop the akhand path at the weekend for the shaheeds, but the issue was around the orgniasers putting posters. The commiittee dont allow anyone to put posters up.

If anyone local has any more info would be appreicieated.

All i am saying is dont jump to conclusions before getting the facts right.

What this member has said is correct.

I know people who were in the meeting and these things were not said by the committee members. Please split fact from fiction before making threads like these. You're causing hate for no reason.

They did not want shaheed singh pictures in the Gurdwara, that much is true, however the bit about holding an Akhand Paath for Indira Gandhi is complete utter bull. Whoever made up such a thing clearly just wants some drama.

  10. Gupt kirpan like janeeou? Are we going to keep Gupt kesh And Gupt turban also. What's the end to these new rules? If you are thinking ahead then we need serious people getting together and finding a good solution.

    What solution do you suggest?

I think realistically, people will never be okay with wearing kirpans publicly. Its not a "new rule". Older generations have always wore their kirpans underneath their clothing.

It's not IDEAL, but its REALISTIC.

  11. Rightly or wrongly, we need to have Zero tolerance. Imagine our elders did not stand (and riot) against the Helmet ban? Today we'd probably have a Pughs in our hands. Give them an inch they'll take a mile.

If it was good enough to dress like that in the trenches, if our appearance was ok when we gave more heads as a percentage of the population than the goreh did for their own nation.. then it's good enough for a blardy fair-ground..

    AMENNNNNNN! :respect::respect::respect::respect::respect::respect::respect::respect:

A group of us need to meet with the management of Drayton Manor Theme Park and explain why it is worn etc. I have to say I am annoyed as one of my nephews went to the Bank of England on a trip and the metal detectors went off (security is high). When my nephew explained it is a part of our faith the guard smiled and said that is fine and let him through and wished him a good trip. This is just a theme park!

The exact same thing happened to me when I went to the Bank of England. They had no problem with it whatsoever.

I think its clear who the educated ones are..

  12. Do you wear normal size kirpan on planes? Why are we making a big issue out of this? You simply can't wear them at certain places. E.g. parliament .

Pretty sure this is not the right attitude to have. If it was up to you, we'd probably not wear kirpans at all in a few years. If you simply sit back and let this happen, it will never stop. Slowly, they will start banning them everywhere because there's no-one challenging it.

How is it not a big issue? Your panj kakaar are meant to be part of your roop. They're not supposed to be parted from your body; not something that can be compromised. If we start choosing where to wear and not wear them, they will lose their significance.

To avoid trouble, the kirpan should be kept gupt in public places.

  13. Firstly, take a deep breathe. The caps lock makes it seem like you're having some sought of a panic attack.

Everyone goes through this when they are considering taking amrit. You do need to be SURE that you're not going to do beadbi. There's nothing worse than turning your back on guru jee once you have become amritdhari. Do ardaas. I know that might sound cliche, but the power an ardaas holds is amazing. You will never be 100% sure, so don't wait for that moment. Just be confident enough to know that you would never do anything to disobey guru ji (kurehits).

p.s Never listen to your mind :)
