  1. Prayers that are 'good' for us and 'others' are the ones that are usually accepted by his nature. We should really be thankful for this. It is a blessing.

We believe our imagination to be true. But his nature knows what's 'actually' best for us.

Sometimes, if you don't get the 'thing' you've asked for, you'll realize, in future, that yes, it was better that I didn't get that thing. It wasn't good for me at all. And no I WILL NOT ASK for anything like it again.

Why should I ask for things that will last a few days/months/years?

Rise to a higher level. Ask for something that lasts forever and has no end whatsoever...ask for Guru Nanak Saheb. Don't ruin your precious time asking for worldly things. You'll regret. For sure. They are not worth it. They are not worth it. Nothing can be compared to Maharaj Ji. No PERSON, no THING...nothing at all. These things will give you PAIN. You'll be STUCK in them. Unfortunately...

    well said bhaji :)

  2. I have a question about doing ardaas. I am always told that if u ask for something from the bottom of ur heart then u will get it. is this true or just something parents tell their children?

my friend has been doing ardaas so that she can be with her boyfriend somehow since family are against it and she believes that her prayer will be answered. I don't think that it will but did not say to her.

is their anything i can tell her to do that can have her prayers answered? she does paath 3x a day (i am sure about 2 but not sure about morning tho), no drinking, meat, hair cutting, etc. and is good person and i want her to be happy.

tricky situation. this is all my personal opinion. i dont think her ardaas will be answered because she is asking for to be with her boyfriend. it is against sikhi to have a boyfriend or girlfriend as its all kaam. but ardaas does get answered by waheguru if what you want is a good thing. the only thing i see that you can do to help her is to comfort her.

im sorry if i have said anything above which is wrong or offensive. if anything above has offended you that please forgive me.

  3. AFTER MARRIAGE

are we allowed to have sex if you are not trying for a baby?

    if no why not..?

if your married i don't see the problem?!?!?

ill try to give a decent answer here

if you are not trying to have a child then you shouldnt have sex because its not for a good reason. the only reason would be pleasure. because its for pleasure, it makes it kaam, which is something we are supposed to try and eradicate in sikhi. its anti sikh to have sex for pleasure. even if you are married you still must not have sex for pleasure because it is still kaam.

  4. Why do some get so hostile when their way of thinking is challenged and then they have no arguement. Discussing is not about winning or losing, its about attaining more knowledge to better yourself.

One Bhen ji wrote that she feels insecure, that other's are looking at her without make up. To my understanding I believe you are looking for other peoples approval here. The only approval we should be looking for is of our Guru; Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji. Paying attention to what the public feels will drive you nuttz. To accept the way God made you takes courage and this courage to accept is developed by reciting Gurbani. Ciontemplate over the Shabad Guru and this insecurity will depart.

GuruFateh, No one is targeting women here and if people are then its really wrong. Guys are no different when it comes to make up and jewellery. If you want to discuss the guys have with materialism then it's a good idea to start another topic.

    2. I didn't make this point, but just to speak on it. Wearing make up and jewellery probably isn't as bad, but when you do it shows you lack self confidents and you need these things to boast yourself up. Be confident in how God made you and don't worry about what people think its a waste of time.

    3. Yes, i agree with you listen to what the Panj Pyare will say or have said to you. When i took Amrit, jewellery and make up were forbidden to be worn. As i didn't understand the why then, but when i started reading, understanding Gurbani the why was discovered. This bring us to the point that guys like to gel or whatever product you use to straighten out your beard so it stuck to your face. To apply a product to keep the hair healthy is one thing. But if your straigthen your beard out on the side of your face so its stuck to your face is about insecurity and an illusion. Let the hair grow freely and openly.

The point made about some amritdhari women wear dastaar and some don't is a completely different topic. There could be some insecurity lashed on to this topic aswell, but this has nothing to do with this topic.

The way I see it is about insecurity, illusions, worldly attachments and false confidents. Build your confident with Gurbani because that's the only thing that will go with you at the end. All this jewellery, make up, designer cloth are a waste of breath and time which take you no where. SIkhs it's your choice do as you wish, but listen to Gurbani and the Panj Pyare

you have written a good post here but when you wrote

One Bhen ji wrote that she feels insecure, that other's are looking at her without make up. To my understanding I believe you are looking for other peoples approval here. i dont really think its fair. i mean she says that she feels insecure which is going to happen and if a bit of foundation is worn to just cover it up then that is not a bad thing, as long as it does not turn into something where you were it to attract males. i am very conscious about the spots and things on my face and hate it when people stare at me because of it and ask me stupid questions about it. i am a male and i also have that problem. but yh i dont wear make up obviously :)

its not that the bhenji above is asking for an aproval from those who look at her but it makes you feel so terrible when you know people are looking at you because spots and things make you look less attractive

but dont get me wrong, i like your post

sorry if i have offended anyone

  5. this is very good that shelter is being provided for those being terrorised by the taliban but if they are going to do that i think that they need tighter security. if the taliban find out that panja sahib is being used as a shelter for them, there will be trouble from them

  6. WJKK WJKF

now this is just my little opinion so i am sorry if i offend anyone.

bibia shouldnt really wear make up and jewelry because when a male looks at them, they may think, wow how beautiful and get dirty ideas because its enhancing their appearance. also, a bhenjis make up should be her dastar and panj kakkars.

thats all i have to say

sorry if i have offended anyone

    WJKK WJKF

You're not being offensive at all but i want you to think about something (just my little opinion too). If a bibi's makeup is her dastar and her panj kakkars, no male would get dirty ideas about her at all? I know from experience that some males still get dirty thoughts even though they see a tyar-bar-tyar singhnee (singhnees are gorgeous!). Yes, it is a job for a singhnee to keep her dignity and she should definately represent herself as the daughter of the Guru whatever way she deems acceptable, even if she wishes to wear makeup and jewelry (thats up to HER not anyone else). If thats what she deems as presentable and acceptable, then let her be, Guru Sahib will guide her eventually, just like he guides us all. We all have a different way of presenting ourselves and everyones opinion is different...that makes us unique hunna?

If a male has dirty thoughts and ideas, its doubtful that it is due to the bhenjis eyeshadow or lipstick lol. That dude has some serious issues he needs to sort out because no matter who he looks at, he'll still have those ideas.

Now if you want to look deeper into the issue of whether wearing makeup and jewelry is wrong or not according to gurmat? I dont have that much knowledge, just ask Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, He's your guide to walk on this path.

(btw makeup has sooo many chemicals in it, why screw up your naturally beautiful skin...all you need is some natural cleansure and moisturizer everyday and you're good to go...theres tons of products out there that dont have all those harsh chemicals in them...try em!)

To all singhnia: make your Guru proud, walk with dignity. Inspire and be inspired. You are jems of this panth. JEMS!

    -DKaur

yes bhenji, you are right when you said that males get dirty ideas anyway but again its my opinion so i hope i dont offend but if bhenjis dont wear make up, then it would be better because it does attract males more. for example, you go into town and you see teenage girls with razer cuts and streaks with so much foundation on they look like plastic dolls. that attracts males in a way that some people cant imagine, i know this because of boys in my school.

but in this case if the girl knows that make up can risk her safety and honour but she knows whats right and whats wrong, and can defend herself from predatory males, then i cant argue, apart from saying that make up recks your face and you would look better without it so..... :)

how silly is this really, on the one hand your saying girls shouldnt wear make up because singhs cud get dirty thoughts but then surely thats a singh problem you havent tackled the very issue about make up instead you've gone off on a tangent about why it shouldnt be worn for some manmukhs sake!

in a previous post i think 3 above this one, someone commented that make up shouldnt be worn because it makes the body look "nicer" i wonder if this individual wears nice clothes or shoes because this makes the body look nicer, instead if he/she really agree with this they should be content just wearing a sack!

At the end of the day wearing make up doesnt effect anyone or you, so get on wiv naam jaapna and be in chardi kala!

but bhaji, you say in your post that make up doesnt effect anyone. the fact is that it does. its the same with clothes. if a girl wears a tight top and short skirt, well someone is going to start thinking kaami thoughts. and sometimes it can be the same with make up, depending on how its used and to what extent. and yes, it is the singhs problem, but at the end of the day, the girl could get effected emotionally and or physically so it should realy be kept to a minimum :)

i hope i have not offended you in any way here bhaji, i dont want any enemies on this site, just good friends :)

  7. this kind of stuff just makes me sick.

    it happens everywhere.

Some gurdware also take part in anti sikh thinking and activity like this.

i went to a wedding where after the anand karaj everybody went down to the other side of the gurdwara site to the party hall where there was alot of drinking, meat and smoking. on the gurdwara site. Also the main guy in the commitee there was drunk.

  8. Bhaji, i can understand you confusion in all of this.

It is wrong to act out any Guru. When i was a kid, my mum took me to a college where drama students

were going to act out a play, org interfaith youth community. Basically the story line is that a group

of kids go around the world meeting different prophets. In this case it was guru nanak dev ji. After it

there was a big problem as the sikh community were disgusted that a interfaith youth community, who should

have known better, gave these kids a play where people are acting out gurus and the muslim community

was also very peaved as they had acted out mohammed.

my point for this story is that you should fight it and be stubborn. dont let your school do it.

    this is total beadbi

  9. Sorry Bhenjiz i no im not a singhni but i just really wanted to say something

I have been in contact with a bhenji that has a dhari that is bigger than alot of singhs.

She keeps her hair no matter what is said to her or how she feels. I just wanted to say that i have so much respect for

her, because i have never seen a singhni with that much hair on her chin and still have that strong sikhi to keep it.

I cannot even start thao describe how much respect i feel for her.

but at the end of the day, you have taken a step that is big in your eyes. That is the main thing. You have taken one step in sikhi,

waheguru and the guru will take 1000 steps towards you!
