  1. Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!! Sangat Jee, the adoration of Bhai Nand Lal sweetly opens our eyes, for he saw in Guru Gobind Singh the shining light of heaven, the beauty of the Lord. Jee, I was reading this article about Bhai Nand Lal and his devotion (for Gurdev Pita Jee), here is something that reflects the general theme of the article: ‘O’ the Prince of Heaven, The Prince of divine Beauty Pray do not bedazzle me. I have no more strength left in me. I am allured and charmed; I sacrifice myself into the fascinated by the Glory, O Beloved.” With these words of devotion Nandlal bowed down, saying : ‘Lord! my doubts are dispelled, I know the Truth. The doors of my heart have opened. The lotus in me has bloomed and I have attained peace.” Thereafter he started living at Anandpur immersed in sewa and Naam Simran...

  3. Sangat Jee..this is a beautifully written article off Yahoo News! I love the bolded part of this article..trust you understand why.. :D Waheguroo..too prabh data, daan mut poora.. Facelift for Amritsar's Akal Takht http://news.waheguroo.com/?{633Q6-17274-69...49443-Q3231-32} Yahoo News, India Friday, 1th August 2003 Amritsar -- The 17th century Akal Takht, the Sikh community's highest temporal authority will soon undergo a facelift. If the shrine authorities are to be believed, the interiors of this institution will soon feature exquisite inlay marble work. With expense having no bearing on the project, every effort is being made to create a brilliant ambience from scratch. Putting pen to paper, artists have reportedly come up with a range of soft designs reflecting tranquility and peace. The best artisans in the field will brought for the project that aims to restore real Sikh art as it existed during the after the glorious reign of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. "We first researched extensively as to where the colored stones could be procured from. There are over 10 varieties and colors which we got from New Zealand, Switzerland, Italy, parts of India and some like the blue 'neelam' from the sea bed," says Baba Amrik Singh, Chief Sewadar at the Akal Takht Sahib. "After all the research and collection, we have reached a stage where we find that the final p roduct is ready. It is now to be fixed in the Akal Takht Sahib," he adds. Cutting the colored stone according to the paper shapes, the next stage. Taking substantial pains over each individual design. And then denting the marble surface to be plugged by the inlay stones. The work will involve the use of six skilled artisans over 16 days just to complete the inlay of stones in the patterns of a 3 by 3 feet marble slab. Artisans are being brought in from Gujarat, Rajasthan and Western Uttar Pradesh, states, areas where inlay works is a special skill. Over and above all this, is the spirit of service, says Amrik Singh. "All our hard work is a form of prayer for 'Wahe Guru'. This is our 'kirtan', this is our 'jaap'. Besides just this there is such beautiful work in gurudwaras, such as not found anywhere in the world, not even with kings and royalty. They can be seen only in the abode of the Guru," he adds. It has taken more than five years to reach this stage, he says. He describes it as a feat of artistic brilliance and spiritual achievement.
  4. Waheguroo...Sangato..he was refused entrace to a STRIP DISTRICT CLUB!! This is pure disgrace, I'm so glad he had some 'kirpa' that he was denied entrace. Sikh Man Refused Entrance To Strip District Club Managers Tell Him To Remove Turban POSTED: 10:49 a.m. EDT July 30, 2003 PITTSBURGH -- A man who practices the Sikh faith says a local nightclub stopped him from entering because he was wearing a turban. Harpeet Grewal said the incident happened last week at Touch in the 1400 block of Smallman Street in Pittsburgh's Strip District. Grewal said a manager told him he had to remove his turban. Grewal tried to explain that he could not remove the item because it is an article of his faith, but the manager wouldn't listen. The Sikh faith is based in northern India and requires men to keep their heads covered. Touch managers told Action News that Grewal was turned away as part of an even-handed dress code. "Like golf courses, we have a policy," said a club spokeswoman. "No hat, no shoes, no shirt, no service ... Michael Jordan came in Friday and he had to take off his ball cap." Giani Sucha Singh, religious leader of the Sikh temple in Monroeville, told WTAE's Chris Glorioso that nightclubs should be more sensitive because turbans are not a fashion statement. "This is the essential part of our religion, to keep our hair uncut and unshowered. For them to compare that to baseball caps is just ridiculous," he said. "For a Sikh gentlemen to remove his turban is akin to someone else being forced to strip."
  5. exactly what I thought when reading this waheguroo buksh lai!
  6. Sadh Sangat Jee, I saw this..and I'm not sure what to think..Please someone give their feedback!!
  7. Manjot Veerjee was telling me that Tapoban is a word that means 'a place for doing bhagti [devotion]'
  8. Waheguroo..sometimes that love overcomes you and you just want to embrace the veer/bhain next to you. I remember seeing one of my very close veers in Sangat doing keertan and after he was done, I could see the radiance all over his face..I just rushed towards him, gently kissed his keski and shared a sweet brother-sister hug. Also, Manjot Veerjee Jee...yes I AGREE...It is NOT Metaphorical, Guru Jee wrote this as our guidance, our hukams, and instruction. By touching someone's feet, or obtaining the dust of Sangat' feet is not pooja..WHy else do we go to Sangat, to Gurdwara Sahib?..We go to obtain Charaan Door!! Guru Jee talks about Charaan Door in such esteem, if it were pooja or just a metaphor, why would it be mentioned in this way & with such frequency? Cleaning shoes a waste of time??? I think it takes much pure love & of course nimrita in their hearts to do this. Our Guru Jee's did all of these after all, they lived out the guidance and instructions we have in front of us today..Can we not do this as well??.. I don't feel worthy entering Gurdwara Sahib without first having the mahaan kirpa to place my forehead on the steps and having the dust of my Sangat's feet..waheguroo..there is nothing sweeter..Charan Door--the most exquistie gift of the UNIVERSE-- Indeed Veerjee..."Gursikhaa Ki Harr thoor de ham paapi bhee gaat paae!!!"...

  11. I have read articles and heard many people say that Guru Arjan Dev Jee said that Bhai Gurdaas Jee's vaars are the 'keys' to Guru Granth Sahib Jee... Could some one please tell me where Guru Arjan Dev jee says this? Warmest waheguru jee ka khalsa..waheguru jee kee fateh!!
  12. According to the Panthic (Nanaksahi Calendar) this day has been set for Miri-Piri Diwas.
  13. Deep Singh veerjee, In my very small budhee I believe that yes as you say merely singing his praises will never bring us close to the mystery, just like the legends, Shiva, the gods are not able to understand the secret of his mystery. Only the mind 'under Guru's instruction' can 'listen to the the unspoken speech of the Lord's Name'. Our mind must be attuned to the Guru's lotus-feet, and of course we must be blessed with this kind mercy. So, I believe it comes down to his gurprasad and our devotion to his lotus-feet.. Hunjee..Guru Jee is full of such shabads..heart-warming lessons, and answers to every question we ever have...

  17. Here is the Hukam for this month (Saawan) BAARAH MAAHAA ~ THE TWELVE MONTHS: MAAJH, FIFTH MEHL, FOURTH HOUSE: ONE UNIVERSAL CREATOR GOD. BY THE GRACE OF THE TRUE GURU: In the month of Saawan, the soul-bride is happy, if she falls in love with the Lotus Feet of the Lord. Her mind and body are imbued with the Love of the True One; His Name is her only Support. The pleasures of corruption are false. All that is seen shall turn to ashes. The drops of the Lord’s Nectar are so beautiful! Meeting the Holy Saint, we drink these in. The forests and the meadows are rejuvenated and refreshed with the Love of God, the All-powerful, Infinite Primal Being. My mind yearns to meet the Lord. If only He would show His Mercy, and unite me with Himself! Those brides who have obtained God-I am forever a sacrifice to them. O Nanak, when the Dear Lord shows kindness, He adorns His bride with the Word of His Shabad. Saawan is delightful for those happy soul-brides whose hearts are adorned with the Necklace of the Lord’s Name. || 6 || 1st Saawan, Wednesday 16th July, 2003 http://www.sgpc.net/hukumnama/sangrand.asp
  18. I found this wonderful article off the AKJ site..perhaps this will help:Would appreciate my dear brothers and sisters to comment..I've copied/pasted the points I thought would help most.. It is an established truth that the food one eats does not only affect the body's health but also influences one 5 mind and thinking. That is why Sahib Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji has forbidden eating food which makes the body writhe in pain and fill the mind with evil. That is why he refused to accept the most nourishing and dainty dishes prepared in the house of Malik Bhago but preferred the simple dry food prepared by the so called low-caste carpenter, Bhai Lalo. Similarly, Sahib Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji refused to drink water brought by a young man who had never done any service to anyone in his life. Thus, in the Gursikh way of life it is not only the nutrient value of the food that matters but, more importantly, who has prepared it and who serves it. Guru-Ka-Langar, whether prepared in the Gurdwara or in the household of a Sikh can be called Guru-Ka-Langar only if it is prepared by Guru-Ke-Sikhs. This may be the one reason why Sahib Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji asked the recipients of the holy Amrit to share food among themselves in the same plate, but forbade them to do so with non-Amritdharis. Even in the Langar premises of Sri Harimandir Sahib (Golden Temple) at Amritsar, a notice painted in bold letters in Punjabi, hangs prominently near the kitchen stating that the "SEWA OF THE PREPARATION OF LANGAR BE DONE BY THE AMRITDHARI SIKHS - MEN AND WOMEN. NON-AMRITDHARIS MAY DO THE SEWA OF CLEANING OF UTENSILS, KITCHEN, HALL, ETC."
  19. Dearest veera..waheguru jee ka khalsa..sri waheguru jee kee fateh.. We are all droplets which are part of this beauitful ocean (Waheguru Jee), and everyone has their own ways of expressing their love, their awe, their curiosity, their devotion, their loch for knowledge... Thank you so much for sharing with the sangat Jee your special way of loving and cherishing Waheguru Jee. May we all learn more from you and each other... A kind note to Jessicarox...we can not compare this 'rap' (poetry) to Gurbani..we use poetry, essays, rap to express ourselves..how we feel about the bani..the history..the love..etc. If I paint a picture of my fiancee, it will simply be an expression of what he means to me, but it will never compare to the physical & spiritual being that he is. Sikhi is EVERYWHERE my dear, it is not a mere religion..it is our lifestyle..our breath..our every word, gesture, action...In every song, in every silence, in every sound, word, poem, speech, art piece..we are to see the light of Waheguru Jee..because he resides in everything & all. Where he doesn't reside, we are to stay away from those things... Endless blessings...

  23. Gurpreet Singh's (the Singh Jee taxi driver who was shot) fiancee from India couldn't take the news of his death & committed suicide. http://www.tribuneindia.com/2003/20030708/main7.htm Taxi driver shot in California Fiancee commits suicide as body is brought to Amritsar Pawan Kumar Dabaurji (Amritsar), July 7 “What have I got by sending my son abroad. I have lost him forever”, said the inconsolable Mrs Kashmir Kaur, mother of 24-year-old Gurpreet Singh, a taxi driver who was shot dead by an American of African origin in California on July 3. He was cremated at Sultanwind, village, near here, today. Gurpreet Singh had gone to America about five years ago in search of greener pastures. His fiancee, Amandeep Kaur (22), a resident of Darshan Avenue (in Dabourji), unable to bear the shock took the extreme step and committed suicide one day after the murder. There were heart-rending scenes in the house of Gurpreet when his body was brought here at 3 pm today. His body was brought from New Delhi, where it had arrived last night from California, by his father and some relatives. He is survived by his parents, a younger brother and a sister. The incident has put a big question mark over the security of Punjabis abroad. The incident had made headlines in newspapers in America, said Mr Rashpal Singh, cousin of the deceased while talking to The Tribune. He said the accused American was travelling in Gurpreet’s cab. He refused to give the fare. An altercation followed. In a fit of anger the accused shot Gurpreet dead. The famil y members of Gurpreet urged the Chief Minister to take up the matter with the External Affairs Ministry to ensure the security of NRI Punjabis there (America) and to arrest the accused person as soon as possible. Amandeep Kaur, before taking the extreme step, sent the family members to the gurdwara. When alone in the house she took out the licensed pistol of her father and shot herself in the temple. She left a suicide note in which she said she was taking this extreme step with the hope of meeting Gurpreet in the ‘next birth’. It is learnt that her engagement was done with the photograph of Gurpreet and both mostly talked on the telephone. Rashpal Singh said the Indian government must take a firm stand with the USA for the safety of Sikh NRIs there, as Sikhs have mostly become the target of hate crime after the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center.
  24. ANG 527 OF GURU GRANTH SAHIB JE MAHARAJ Shabad Link DAYV-GANDHAAREE: Tell me - on what path will I find my Beauteous Lord? O Saints of the Lord, show me the Way, and I shall follow. ||1||Pause|| I cherish in my heart the Words of my Beloved; this is the best way. The bride may be hunch-backed and short, but if she is loved by her Lord Master, she becomes beautiful, and she melts in the Lord's embrace. ||1|| There is only the One Beloved - we are all soul-brides of our Husband Lord. She who is pleasing to her Husband Lord is good. What can poor, helpless Nanak do? As it pleases the Lord, so does he walk. ||2||2||
