  1. Guru Nanak Sahib did not say "be true Christian if Christian, if true Hindu but true Hindu... " etc. That is a quote of Shaheed Baba Jarnail Singh Ji Bhindranwale. What I believe Sikhi preaches is that there is one path to to the One Waheguru. The path is "LOVE" However, how you walk that path can be different. Truth is universal. A good Muslim is a Gurmukh. A good Christian is a Gurmukh. A good Hindu is a Gurmukh. Being a good Muslim doesn't mean circumcising oneself and going on pilgrimage to Mecca. Being a good Christian doesn't mean that Jesus is the Son of God and that if you don't believe in Jesus you won't go to Heaven. Being a good Hindu doesn't mean that one should do idol worship and pray to one's ancestor. A true Hindu, Christian, Muslim and Sikh lives in the Will of Waheguru, remembers Waheguru directly, follows the advice and teachings of their respective Guru and rejects blind rituals and practices.
  2. we should also be careful not to mistake someone who has mental illness to someone who is possessed. unfortunately many ignorant people in Panjab label mentally ill or dislexic (hope i spelt it right) people as "possessed" however really they need care, attention, medication and love!
  3. When we have Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji then why do we need anything else. NAAM is the Weapon, Medicine GURBAANI is the Shield, Prescription. My advice would be go to the Gurdwara or in presence of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and the Panj Pyaare (5 Amritdhari Gursikhs who keep Rehat and do Naam Simran). The person who is posessed should be brought in front of the Panj Pyaare. Holding Sarbloh Kirpaans the Panj Pyaare should do Simran circling the possesed person. If the person is truly possessed - then the spirit should run away. Udhaa people who do mool mantar, simran or nitnem, or recite gurbani daily are not affected by these negative forces. In Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh's Autobiography there is a case of exorcism (if i read correctly) - the method stated above is what Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh ji used.
  4. that makes no sense!? Is Palvinder Singh supporting Khalistani Kharkoo Singhs? or is supporting Muslim Terrorists?

  6. Hygiene issue = in situations such as: - When distributing parshaad, - Cooking Langar Traditionally Singhs cover their dhaaree / mouth with a parnaa (piece of material). So they didn't tie their beards but cover it with parnaa etc. By tying a parnaa around your dhaaree when cooking: 1/ Respect for Dhaaree 2/ You don't want to get food stains on beard 3/ You don't want to burn your beard. Obviously this applies to Singhs with long beards.

  10. I reckon Singhs look better with their beard untied. However like Mehtab Singh Paaji says you can tie your beard when you have to. Sikhi is a practical religion. For reasons such as health and safety or hygiene purpose - tying the beard is okay. Sikh Rehat Maryada does not cover tying beard or not. However generally all Sikhs tend to have beards untied which shows grace, dignity and honour. However as mentioned above if you have tie your beard for a reason then no problem.

  12. Same with Gurbaani. Newspapers print Gurbaani in them. Question - should it be our responsibility that we dispose of the newspaper in a respectful manner (Agg Bhet) or is it the responsibility upon the newspaper not to print Gurbaani because of the possibility of beadbee? Sikhs should have enough sense about this. Its kind of worrying that Sikhs follow common sense or only respect Gurbaani or Guru's Hukam after a Hukamnama has been issued by Sri Akaal Takhat Sahib (even then sadly not everyone follows the Hukhamnama). Lets pray that Waheguru blesses us all with intelligence and awareness. And let us all take action of not using, hanging or buying calendars, photos or pictures of the Sikh Gurus. Also on wedding card invitations lets refrain from printing gurbaani and prevent beadbee. bhul chuk maaf.

  14. i thinks are more complicated and difficult in USA - in UK we are lucky... we can even where a big kirpaan in parlimiant etc. When going on Aeroplane, if u think it is best to take off kirpaan then the advice is: - do ardaas, remove kirpan and put in your luggage. - on arriving at destination - put on kirpaan, recite sri japji sahib da paat and followed with an ardaas. maharaaj jaani jaan han. i don't advice in USA but other countries like UK etc - u can get away with wearing a small kirpaan underneath your clothes (please search aerplane on kirpan post on the forum). if we are forced to take off our kakkaars then our Amrit is not broken. Our Amrit is much greater than that and can't be broken. However as a Sikh it is painful to see our Kakkaar leave our body - jus as it is painful for someone to lose their arm or leg. bhul chuk maaf.
  15. if someone find the shabad and post it - it would be useful.
  16. It kicks off tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. "Guru Nanak went to those places where there were bad people doing bad things" ... this is usually used as a defence in going clubbing. Well maaf karnaa... Guru Sahib travelled through villages, cities and countryside. To my knowledge Guru Sahib didn't say "Come On Bhai Mardana lets go where all the drunkards are sitting and lets do Brahmn Vichaar with them..." Bhul chuk maaf karnaa. If someone "PERSONALLY" wishes to go clubbing or pubbing then it is between them and the Guru... i don't wanna judge. However if you are saying that you are going clubbing and pubbing in the name of Sikhi (and I have heard some people telling other Amritdhari that they "SHOULD" go clubbing) then i definately advice those people to read Gurbaani closely, meditate and look deep inside themselves and ask are we justfying something "we" want by saying you are doing it for "Sikhi's" sake.
  18. would the government educate the general public by sending govt. official to pubs? would schools create awareness on a certain issue by having a fieldtrip to a night club? would a Guru Ka Sikh go to club or pub to do guru ka parchaar? Likley answer is "no" Why? 1/ The environment is such that it is difficult to talk forget educate or discuss something. 2/ People are intoxicated and therefore they are not 100% there to take in the message If someone made video footage of you and you go to the club or pub. And the Panj Pyaare, and Guru Roop Saadh Sangat are shown the video. Or Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaaj is shown where or what you are up to - then WOULD YOU FEEL SHAME? If you would feel even a slightest bit of shame - then that indicates that perhaps you shouldn't be there. However if you truly believed that you would feel totally comfortable and no shame at all in your act and why you were at a certain place then fair enough.

  20. amrit bachan saadh kee baanee. jo jo japai this kee gath hovai, har har naam nith rasan bakhaanee. (Ang 744) Either "Saadh" refers to "Guru SahiB" or it refers to "Holy men". However it is clear that Guru Sahib is writing about "The Guru's Baani" and not the Baani of worldly saints. The biggest saint of saint is GURU NANAK SAHIB!!! "Sant" or "Saadh" in Gurbaani refers to Guru Sahib, unless u think that our Guru is not the Saint of Saint, Holiest of Holy. Lets refrain from going back into Bipran ki Reet which Guru Sahib saved his from. We don't need Saadhs and Sants as third party intermedaries. Guru Sahib has given us a direct communication to Waheguru through Gurbaani.
  21. gur ke charan hirdai vasaae Enshrine the Feet of the Guru within your heart; dhukh dusman teree hathai balaae your pains, enemies and bad luck shall be destroyed. ||2|| (Ang 190) Now does this mean that I should Guru Arjan Dev Ji Maharaaj wanted Sikhs to physically put his feet within their heart? Would this require surgery? No! That would be silly! We all know that Guru Sahib is refering to enshrining the 'Shabad' within the heart. This is one example of how we need to know Gurbaani grammar, Indian metaphors, similies and cultural understanding to know what Guru Sahib is exactly saying.

  23. As Sikhs we consider any one (including so called "Sants", Saadh & Babe) as fellow Gursikh brother. Anyone who treats someone differently to how they would treat a gursikh brother (i.e. washing a Baba's feet, doing matha tekhna to him or reverring a Baba's photo etc) is treading on Manmat grounds (contrary to the Guru's teachings).
