  1. VaheguruJiKaKhalsaVaheguruJiKiFateh! Correct he didnt! Should we then allow a prominant dera sach sauda follower to do katha on Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj or a nirankari to do a katha on 1699 vasakhi?
  2. True as well. but they wer all worshipping one god in there own ways. this is fine. all should be able to worship in their own ways. guru tegh bahadur ji rightfully gave his head for this. but this channel is doing parchar of sikhi so should present sikhi lets remember this is a sikh channel for sikhi parchar. you're right, but reading the Namdhari websites, they clearly state they worship One God, or as they put it 'Akaal Purakh'. Also taken off wikipedia: Namdharis follow the path of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, which is the bedrock of Sikh philosophy i.e. Nam Simran (meditating on God's name), Kirat Karo (Earn thy living), Vand Chako (Share thy wealth). The fundamental core of Namdharis' religious life is Nam Simran and the word Namdhari literally translated means a "one who beholds God's Name". VaheguruJiKaKhalsaVaheguruJiKiFateh! Jujhar Singh, I am under the impression you are of a Naamdhari background. If so, please don't be so niave to miss out the Guru Balak Singh, Guru Ram Singh, Guru Partap Singh and 'Satguru Jagjit Singh Ji' bits. This is not maintream Sikh belief of the 10 Gurus and eternal Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj. Based on that, Naamdahris are not usually allowed on Gurdwara stages (except for the Ramgharia sabha, who do so out of family loyalties). Below is a link to a very confused website http://<banned site filter activated> Click on the 'Gurus' section once you enter the site and read about the extra 5 Gurus that the naamdharis preach about.
  3. VaheguruJiKaKhalsaVaheguruJiKiFateh! As it goes the naamdhari is 'pulling the right strings' in order to get a prime time TV slot, the katha is 'mainstream'. The issue is his attachment to dehdhari following group who believe the their guru is the 15th Guru Nanak. The sangat is confused already and to allow visable followers of non sikh sects to do katha on the only Sikh channel is pretty dangerous stuff. VaheguruJiKaKhalsaVaheguruJiKiFateh!
  4. VaheguruJiKaKhalsaVaheguruJiKiFateh! Re: Saturday 19.45 9 May, a naamdhari is doing live katha on the Sikh Channel. If Akal Takht Sahib have issued Hukumnamas forbidding followers of dehdhari gurus to sit on our Gurdwara stages, shouldn't the Sikh Channel be responsible enough to NOT put an obvious naamdhari on the prime time live tv slot allowing him to do katha??? No offence to the naamdhari, but the Sikh Channel must take responsiblity of who they allow on the TV channel or expect a reaction from the sangat!! VaheguruJiKaKhalsaVaheguruJiKiFateh!
  5. Ford Capri, Has your sister fought with you and left home or something? Many of your threads revolve around the discipling of girls or getting detectives to follow them at school, dysfuctional familes. Not all SIkhs families are as dysfuntional as you may have convinced yourself that they are. Some brothers actually get along with their sisters. :gg:
  6. Maybe the current political system is not suitable for the Sant. A politcal decisions making system was revealed to the kaum in the form of Punj Pyaray, the Gurmatas and concencus for the sarbat khalsa. The Sants jeevan is more influential without even entering the democratic political system.
  7. If you want to show lineages and ancestory then Khem Singh Bedi was a direct descendant of Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj. So what direction do you want your research to go in now?? Amitabh is a descendent of Guru Nanak Dev Ji?? Using actions of forefathers as a basis to add weight to your accusations can end up falling flat. In short Amitabjh was probably part of millions of people who in 1984 had it in for Sikhs. Even Sikhs had it in for Sikhs. The times were clouded by Govt propaganda and corrupt Sikh leaders who purposely led people make the wrong judgements. If Amitabh was physically involved in deaths then he needs to come clean. On the other hand he could have been part of the millions who at that time felt Sikhs were evil.
  8. Can't disagree with that! 1 million Chaupai Sahibs is priceless. Suppose most of us only look for material benefit and dont have faith in the spiritual benefits. Thanks for your posting.
  9. Instead of the tens of thousands of pounds that will be spent on a rally in Trafalgar Square, wouldn't the funds be better spent opening a orphanage in India's capital city of Delhi called the "1984 Sikh Massacare Orphanage". There's a massive statement that would be made to the world, not forgetting the benefit to humans for years to come. Apologies in advance, but spending £100k on a rally or spending £100k on giving children food and shelter, which is the more Sikh thing to do??
  10. I sort of made my own conclusions on the whole Sikh Charity thing. It seems to be an indvidual action rather than a community action. Most SIkhs in influentional positions (elected committees, self created jathebhandis or self apointed jathedars/mukhis) would tend to favour spending the Guru's Golak on their own projects (such as new Gurdwara's or modifications to the existing Gurdwaras) than let the funds be spent on "non-Sikh" people. I think western Sikhs are econimically sucessful and privaleged enough to have a high proportion of disposable income. Question is is it being channelled to the right causes?
  11. £5/month is a managable sum to donate for anyone, student to skilled professional. We can easily be emotionally blackmailed into funding a new gurdwara buliding extentions for much larger sums.
  12. Good Luck with tackling this extensive list. You do need a lot of committed sewadars at grass root level to execute the above changes and in my view most panthic set-ups burn out trying to achieve this due to lack of commitment, clash of egos and autocratic decision making. I hope you are able to avoid the mistakes of your predecessors..
  13. Thanks for the responses. Its positive to know that some sikhs take the initiative to do charity work regardless of the charity organisation. If we explain to non sikhs what sarbat da balla is, how can we show with this practical examples? Are Sikhs becoming more and more an insular community where sarbat da balla is treated as more as a myth than reality? If the community had a million pounds to spend would they buy another building, creating another Gurdwara or would they input the million pounds into building a shelter for the homeless or help the homeless get back on track by giving them deposits to rent rooms. As Sikh youth do we se?e the necessity for community sewa or do we see the necessity to be part of insular groups who do not interact with people outside their groups/jathas/committees? Is there any further benefit from Gurdwara expansions? Are we misusing the Gurus golak to invest more and more in property, opening more Gurdwaras thereby creating more insular groups? I have my opinions on this but would like to know the opinions of others and therefore have spectrum of views on what the current Sikh charity situation is? Thanks
  14. Is anyone involved in a Sikh charity, if so what activities are carried out. I need some material and contact info for research. So far I have sturggled to find any panthic charity groups who are consistent and active in the uk. Does anyone contribute their daswand to a charity? The Sikh community in the uk is a rich community where millions can be raised for purchase of buildings, tournaments and samagams. Can someone verify what kind of level of potential donation Sikh charities can raise. Help would be appreciated. Thanks
  15. VaheguruJeeKaKhalsaVaheguruJeeKiFateh. Need help. Is there any genuine sikh charities in the UK which are active and carrying out real charity work? I have been directed to many redundant or non active Sikh charities which don't seem to be transparent about what they do. I don't want to know about organisations or the 300 plus gurdwara committees set up as a charity, I need advice on genuine Sikh charities and their activities, not just websites but real examples. Thanks.
