  1. It's like most places in the world, you have good bits and bad bits.
  2. That's only if they choose to be, you can't force them to and no one should be forced either.
  3. Obsession with caste.
  4. I'm all for freedom of speech and the right to have your own viewpoint, but where the BNP are concerned, they deserve everything they get. They are nothing more than a bunch of thugs in suits who may have been able to con a few people into voting for them but, I believe, the majority of the UK population won't fall for their spiel.
  5. Not seen the newer eps but then again, American Dad is meant to be borderline offensive humour. I know that's not everyone's cup of tea but, personally, I find that sort of humour amusing. Family Guy is one of my all-time favourite shows!
  6. Erm...huh?? I can't see any "besti", unless you're saying that Sikhs shouldn't be nerds?! Explain!
  7. Cool article. I'm new on the scene but I know that there have been positive and negative things said about Nidar Singh on this very forum. Can someone give me a quick "potted history" as to why this is? Is he not on the level or something? Ta.
  8. Wow, some cool pics there dude. I recognise some of the shops from the last time I went to New York. Great city!
  9. Was watching the game last night with my pa & brother-in-law, both of whom are scouse followers. Obviously not a good result for them, my brother-in-law even decided to leave before the game was over! Despite the poor result (and not really being much of a footie fan) I found myself enjoying the game.
  10. Just to throw my own 2 pence into this, I thought the article MAY have been a bit OTT with the language but if you look at it from the point of view of an alpha-male type (as someone earlier pointed out), then you can look past the excessive f-words and appreciate the article for what it is: a well-researched piece on an important figure in Sikh history. In this day and age, this is exactly the sort of thing you need to inspire the younger generation to take interest in the Sikh faith. And whoever mentioned Mr T, try reading the article in a Mr T voice and subsitute the word "Sucka!" every now and then, it reads sooo much better!!
  11. saint-soldier, thank you for your response. I've spoken to a friend of mine who has been living and working in Sydney for a couple of years now and he says it's the best move he ever made. The only thing, however, is that he is White, so I felt that his experience would differ from that of a non-European person, hence my original question. Ideally what I wanted was for an "insider perspective", a response from someone born and bred in Australia (or even an "ex-pat" who's been in Oz for a number of years), who can tell me what the place is like for a Sikh to live and work. I had a feeling it would be like most places (not any place is perfect, after all) and there would be some issues but I thought I'd check to see if these issues were more prevalent down under. No further questions so far, but I'll be sure to "hassle" you if I think of any!
  12. Such a sweet story and a very happy ending. Congrats to you both, may you have a very happy future together!
  13. Are there any Australian Sikhs on this board? I'm getting interested in working overseas (particularly Australia) and thought I'd ask if anyone here is an Aussie Sikh and can give me an insight into what it is really like to live and work Down Under. Any testimonials one can offer would be greatly appreciated. Ta!
