  1. On what basis have you reported this page to facebook? The picture is of Yogi Bhajan from the USA. A cult leader.
  2. Firstly, I thought the point of this forum was to debate and discuss issues of relevance to sikhism. I believe in a very simple concept - freedom of speech. Which means we all have the opportunity to take positions on issues and we don't necessarily have to agree with each other. I put forward third party video evidence which many of you have seen. I also have an instinctive suspicion ... that all may not be as it seems with this individual. I have to say, as a sikh, I found the video embarrassing. It's no excuse to say he was young then - if he feels old enough to preach to people then he is old enough to realise that behaving in that manner is wrong. Having rings put on his fingers, people touching his feet and a basket in which to collect cash!! why didn't he refuse the gifts? Why did he sit there under the big picture of himself accepting gifts like some 15th century monarch? Do any of you think where these gifts and cash end up?? are they used for charitable purposes? does he build schools or health facilities in the Punjab? what does he say about female infanticide? I have listened to his sermons - and some of them are him justifying one thing or the other about his behaviour. Regarding Ludhiana, I have seen him addressing a crowd there. Big deal....what about all those thousands of ordinary sikhs who were there too and risked their lives? I didn't hear him say anything about this issue until the media got involved and he had national coverage. I'm sorry to see that those of you who are incapable of presenting a rationale argument and can only resort to playground insults or removing comments.
  3. I have always been a Khalistan sceptic, who beleives that the Sikh faith and people will be better served as part of India. We have spread to all corners of the globe and are a prosperous, well educated community with deep roots in countries in Europe, North America and Asia. Punjab is already a basketcase with poor government, communal tensions, drug abuse and inequality for women. Do we really think these issues would be solved with Khalistan? Who would govern Khalistan? Sikh priests or would we have a democracy? Or would we have a mix like Iran? What would our relationship be with Pakistan? or with India? Which country is going to invest in Khalistan - what resources would it have apart from farmland? What would happen to the thousands of Biharis? would they be forced out? would other minorities be forced out too? Isn't it the case that Khalistan would be a disaster... just like Pakistan? I only put this out here as I am interested in people's view on this hypothetical matter.
  4. That is such a ridiculous response. I know many sikhs who have eaten meat for decades.... and no one has eaten kutha meat!!
  5. Guys Thanks for your comments. I had a look at some key biographies written by various academics on the 10th Guru. I don't think it is very clear whether he ate meat or not - it is clear that he said sikhs should not consume halal meat.
  6. This is a question I have had difficulty in getting a straight answer too. Some people say the 10th Guru ate meat, so it is ok. Do you know what is the case? ... and if we can eat meat, can we eat beef?
  7. OK. Lets simplify this for those with a simple mind....What is of greater importance.... 1) The right of ALL people to practice their religion freely without harrassment, or 2) The 'supposed problems with moslems' identified by some sikhs I would argue that sikhs should stand for the first. Today it maybe minarets on mosques...but tomorrow it will be turbans and kirpans.
  8. So Jeevan and manni007, we should base our views on a whole religion on the pathetic behaviour of a few extremists. If your brother was an <banned word filter activated>, I wouldn't say that your whole family were idiots .... would I? There are plenty of countries with a majority moslem population where people can practice their religions freely, .. Turkey, Morocco, Libya, Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon,.....
  9. OK. I guess if the Swiss people - via a referendum - decide that gurdwaras could only be built without a nishan sahib, you would agree with the Swiss people?? Sikhism is not a religion built on principles such as an eye for an eye or intolerance .... I don't remember the gurus preaching that. If they did, please point it out to me. The Swiss people are effectively voting against all people who look 'different' (yes - that includes you) in the eyes of white Europeans. Don't behave like extremists by adopting a 'knee <banned word filter activated>' response. First think.
  10. I'm interested to hear what fellow members think of the Swiss referendum to ban minarets on mosques. The people have voted for a ban in the referendum. There are only 4 minarets in Switzerland (it has a moslem population of 400,000). Personally, i think this is a racist move and an attack on free speech. I hope sikhs will support their moslem brothers in expressing outrage at this news quote... "Swiss voters have approved a ban on new mosque minarets being built, prompting dismay and anger in the Muslim world at the success of the far-right initiative. The referendum to ban the towers or turrets attached to mosques from where Muslims are traditionally called to prayer was approved Sunday by 57.5 percent of voters who cast ballots and in 22 out of the country's 26 cantons."
  11. i think ur first point it is wicked but damn ur second one isnt.. ak47s also PROTECTED people around the world. and it is also seen as a shastar to some! I think 'damn' is a bit strong. Yes, it is a weapon ( or as you call it...a shashtar) and yes, it does protect people too. My concern is that some misguided young men may think it is cool and macho to display such things - in the manner that gangsters display such symbols. If you wish to display such shashtar, what is wrong with the shashtar of our gurus?
  12. I have two points. Firstly, as someone who is clearly well disciplined and righteous, don't you think it is part of your duty to socialise with so called 'bad people' and help them see the rightpath. Isolating yourself is an indication that you are a self-centred soul who is religous solely to benefit himself and not society at large. I don't think that is what sikhism is about. Secondly, why do you have an AK47 as your image? Do you think this is clever? This is a weapon that has been used in the murder of millions of innocent people around the world.
