  1. well holocaust was completely different. completely. these were riots, not a deliberate and continued effort at exterminating a race, not concentration camps, experiments, years upon years of torturous genocide. not to take away from the sufferings of 1984, but the sufferings of the jews were far greater.
  2. The inspirational Sikhs are the men and women that live each day according to the Gurus. The Sikhs that don't seek attention or obscene wealth and believe in God, family, love, honesty and charity above all else. The simple families that don't seek or need recognition for living properly. The men that are strong enough to keep kesh, have their identity and be proud of the culture and heritage. The women that keep their whole family happy, always putting them before herself. The inspirational Sikhs are those ordinary people we see everyday. Just like the guy in the video below. He has recently been put into a marketing campaign for the American designer Kenneth Cole and is being seen in billboards all over the place.
  3. I am curious as to what the response would be if I would ask what the top 20 ideals/rules/practices a Sikh woman should follow. Try and give specific things, beyond 'being nice/supportive/well mannered'. Also, how (if at all) do these differ from the important ideals/roles/practices etc of Sikh men? Thanks.
  4. Too many Sardars are completely consumed by their appearance. They are too defensive, too narrow minded and fearful of the rejection they will face from others. Frankly, what is the point in keeping kesh if you are not proud to do so? Too many Sikh men don't realise the inner strength, faith and commitment that it takes to keep their hairs and that it is an achievement in itself. A good woman will value this, a good woman will have the wisdom to look beyond the turban and just see the man that she loves. Why should Singhs cut their hairs, deny their identity and forget where they come from? Those that mind don't matter, and those that matter don't mind. Why should Sikhs care for what ignorant people believe? How can a man believe himself to be true, if he keeps his hairs but hides them under a cap or a beanie, pretending that he is not Sikh. Remember the reasons why keeping kesh is so important. Sikhs are not hindus, not muslims. They are Sikhs, they are brave warriors, and they keep their hairs to say that they are different. Both men and women should be strong from within. There are many woman that want only turbaned guys as their husband. So many of the women that chase clean shaven boys, chase other materialistic and trivial things. Many of these so called sohni kuris will renounce the Sikh tradition, probably not want to live in a joint family and end up getting divorced anyway. Remember that Sikhs don't believe in love marriage as such. It is about finding a suitable partner for the rest of your days. A person that has the same values and interests and beliefs as you. I know it narrows down your opportunities for finding a bride, but remember among the thousands of girls, you only need to find one and you will be set for the rest of your days. All hope is not lost. My husband is turbaned, nor does he trim his beard and my only quarrel with that fact is that he takes longer than me to get ready. Being a gori, forever we get stares as an odd couple. No one ever said an odd couple can't be the happiest couple. Don't limit yourself to Punjabi girls, everyone knows their quality is on fast decline anyway. There is truth in one God, so long as you can find someone who can stand at your side from here until eternity, what does it matter where she was born or who her parents are? Make sure that you are always well presented, dress well, wear a nice cologne, make her laugh and you are already part way to winning her over. Remember that it is not just you that bares the stresses that may come of your turban, as your wife she will share it also. SSA
