  1. My definition of a perfect day is when I have been able to engage in Naam Simran. After simran everything seems pleasant. Everything goes well after simran. Without simran I feel agitated and take my frustrations out on others. Without simran the day seems totally meaningless. Bin simran din rehan birtha sabh jai Megh bin jio keti jai..................... As a plant suffers without water , I feel the same without simran. 4. "Put him behind bars and leave him there until I say so!" exclaimed the King. "My liitle finger has been severed whilst trying to draw the sword from the sabre during the hunting expedition and all he can say is take comfort in what he does". The soldiers wrestled the cabinet minister and imprisoned him until further notice. As time went on the king went hunting again but this time becoming estranged from his soldiers. In the thick of the forest the king was truly lost and to make things worse he became the kidnap victim of a group of terrible bandits. The king lost hope as he had no chance of being discovered by his soldiers. The bandits wanted to kill the king and offer him as a balli (sacrifice) to their Devi. The king was preparing for the worst when one bandit noticed that the king had a severed finger. "So what?" another bandit exclaimed. "We cannot offer him as a balli owing to the fact that he has a limb missing and as such the Devi will not be appeased as it not acceptable in the balli maryada" the leader of the pack explained. The king was released as he did not serve any purpose by being captured. The king finally caught up with his soldiers and explained the whole horrid incident to them. The soldiers took the king back to the palaces and offered to comfort him. "The minister , the minister" cried the king. He's been in prison for over a year now. I sent him to prison in fit of rage when he said "takecomfort in what he does". "Release him immediately" ordered the king "and bring him to me". When the king set eyes on the minister the king began to weep for the injustice he had ordered against him. "If it wasn't for the severed finger I would have been slaughtered today " weeped the king. "Take comfort in what he does" whispered the minister. "What about your lost liberty for one year" begged the king. "I always accompany you on your hunting expeditions" said the minister. "If I hadn't been imprisoned then I would have been the balli!" We often get distressed when things don't go according to our plan. The king and the minister both wept with happiness as all they could hear around them was: (੨੮੩-੨, ਗਉੜੀ ਸੁਖਮਨੀ, ਮ ੫) ਜੋ ਕਛੁ ਕਰੈ ਸੋਈ ਸੁਖੁ ਮਾਨੁ ॥ jo kashh karai soee sukh maan || Whatever He does - take comfort in that. bhoolaa kaahae firehi ajaan || Why do you wander around, you ignorant fool? 7. Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji Maharajh stresses the importance of Sant de seva. The definition of a Sant etc. http://www.scribd.com/mokhamsingh The 12 page ebook named Sant de Seva will explain this. The other ebook chapters by 6th Patshahi also covers Gurmat Gyan. Very interesting & informative in my opinion.
  8. As well as hearing this sakhi in Katha , I also read the same in pothi number three Sampradahi steek of SGGS Ji Maharajh by Gyani Kirpal Singh.

  10. Freshly made sticky Gudh (toffee like sugar) had fallen on the road. Two flies came along lured by the sweet fragrance. One fly sat on top of the lump whilst the other sat on the side. They both began licking away and enjoying the sweet taste. They both saw a vehicle approaching. The fly on the side swiftly flew away fearing for it's life. The second fly wanted to fly away but became stuck in the warm Gudh as it solidified. The tyre of the vehicle rolled over the Gudh and ended the life of the fly. When we sit on top of the Gudh of comforts such as relationships , work ,relatives etc. we are ultimately crushed the tyre of pain , sorrow , heartache , tensions etc. The wise flies of this world sit on the side of the Gudh of comforts whilst focusing primarily on Gurbani/Naam Simran. When the tyre of heartache approaches they swiftly fly away in the knowledge that we are only here on this earth for a very short time. Our spouse , children , relatives , friends , and family are all like the passengers we meet at airports , train stations etc. We know that we/they will depart at our/their station and as such we do not become too attached. 12. Children are busy playing away from home. They have no concept of time or what purpose they left home for. In the playground they become so entangled in games , fights , entertainment etc. that their mothers have to remind them that it is time to come home. One day our mother the gor will call us back home too: (੧੩੮੨-੧੫, ਸਲੋਕ, ਸੇਖ ਫਰੀਦ ਜੀ) ਫਰੀਦਾ ਗੋਰ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਸਡੁ ਕਰੇ ਨਿਘਰਿਆ ਘਰਿ ਆਉ ॥ fareedhaa gor nimaanee sadd karae nighariaa ghar aao || Fareed, the poor grave calls out, \"\"O homeless one, come back to your home.

  14. Half way through the night two intoxicated men decided that they needed to cross the river. In the intense darkness they managed to find a boat and entered it. They paddled with enormous vigour and enthusiasm. They were huffing and puffing but the zeal to get to the other side subdued any pain and exertion they encountered. After many hours they thought that they must have covered a vast distance by now. When darkness finally gave way to sun’s rays the look of disappointment on their faces was indescribable. They were on the same spot as where they had started off from. They had neglected to release the mooring rope which ties the boat to an anchor position. After engaging is Seva and Simran for a while we sometimes feel disappointed that we have not achieved what we set out for. We seem to lack that shanti (inner peace) particularly. Whilst engaging in Sewa and Simran have we released the anchor of ego? 16. Kar Ishnaan simar Prabh Apna Mann Tann Bhae Aroga................ Read/listen to Gurbani as much as possible. Listen to Kirtan and Katha. Become a member of the Sangat at the Gurdwara Sahib. Interact with other people. Do paath/Naam Simran 24/7 until you feel the inner shanti.
  17. The more you talk about it , the better you will feel. Bottling things up is like walking around with excess luggage. If you feel that you can't talk to anyone else then how about a psychologist? Have you spoken to your doctor? In the Uk there is an organisation called the "Samaritans" , they give free advice and are excellent listeners. Keep posting here too. A problem shared is a problem halved.
