  1. I salute to k singh deep for initiating such relevent topic, actually we guys always find some excuse to

interprete the things our way (for those who think there is nothing bad in caste system ), not even sparing

gurbani.I personally know veer deep ji , he spent his life perfectly according to Gurmat , and passed away

recently on 5 Apr 2010 after brief illness . let us all pray that his soul stays in unison with the great Creator

  2. Hi LOP - This is what we in our young days were told by the learned Singhs

soon after the birth of the baby - take some water in a sarbloh batta

put some patashas and recite japji saheb also keep stirring the water

with small kirpan or khanda - the patashas will dissolve before the Japji is

recited in full , do ardas to thank the God for blessing us with baby and

pray that the baby spends its life in virtuos way as per the Gurmat

Now put some drops of this nectar in baby's mouth and the rest be

    partaken by the parents .

this will be the real GURTI WHICH WILL HAV LIFELONG EFFECT ON THE

NEW SOUL. AIf this gurti is given by a gursikh with real virtuos life

it would be even better . We can also prepare karah Prasad along with

bur we should not insist it be given to baby.

This procedure was told by my father , and practised in our family

  3. literally PAtola means Silken cloth , in Maharashtra & Gujtat Patola is a special variety

of silk woven for women clothings Specially sarees.

In present context - as I have been explained about the line by the learned Gursikhs

Karmi aveh Kapra nadri mokh duar - The soul gets the human body (the kapra) by

its karma in previous janams , by simran it becomes eligible for nadar of the akal purakh

( which sufis call Nigah - e - karam or in punjabi seeing with lots of affection and meher

by the Almighty or the Murshid (Guru ) which leads the soul to the door of Mukti

  4. Yes , I agree with shastr, There is another saying having same meaning

Janani Janah ta bhagat jan, key Data key soor,

nahi ta janani baanjh reh kahi gawaweh noor

meaning o mother , give birth to either a BHAGAT, or a bighearted

    donor, or a braveheart,

otherwise it is not worth trying to procreate as it would be wastage of

all the pains & efforts associated with giving birth to offspring

    thanks

  5. To GPS,

Yes, Christian calender- more popularly known as Gregorian Calender(Pope Gregory made

this by doing necessary amendments in Julian calender)is a Solar Calender, in India Saka calender

the official calender of the Govt of india is also solar Calender, Bikrami calender is Lunar calender,

and to correct youin all humility , it is Hindu calender named after the King Bikramaditya of

Ujjain Islamic Hijri calender is also lunar calender. My requesyt to all is, we accept a lunar calender

or Solar calender let it be accepted by majority and all important days be celebrated accordingly

and let us not mix the two , we cannot under any logic juxtapose them on each other .

Otherwise as our Great gurus have Said Maah Diwas moorat bhaley jin Kauo nadar Karey

all days are made by the the almighty, all are equally auspicious if we have His NADAR

if someone does not want to see logic , bye i would be off this topic

  6. Dear _dont know_

Taking Amrit(Amrit Chakna) is in principle only beginning to be Khalsa , It is formal initiation into

Khalsa fold (As being baptised is to become christian) . Thereafter it is uptu ourselves how

much we practise the rehat as explained by the PANJ PYARE during the ceremony. IT IS ONLY

BY following the path shown to us that leads us to the ultimate goal and it is We ourselves

have to lead the life according to the teachings of our gurus , that produces the virtues as described

by you .So we have to practise the tenets ourselves to reach the heights of

    being Gursikh in real sense.

then the question why take the Amrit ? if we have to toil all that, First it makes mandatory to us

to practise the virtuous life, makes us disciplined,as we have to follow the rehat maryada,

and above all the first step is always the most important, all other actions come later only.

  7. To,

all concerned, my request was and is , to sit togather and decide whether we should

have sikh calender based on solar sytem( based on earhts revolution around sun),

on revolution equals one year - in Christian (Gregorian ) and Saka (Indian calender or

the lunar system(moons movement aroun earth- 1revolution equals one lunar month

as in Hijri(islamic ) and Bikrmi (hindu calender) .Then all the dates and occassions

be decided on the accepted basis , where am I becoming illogical in my sugesstions .

I again request to discuss the topic in logical manner, there is no use in calling others

by foul names when we ourselves have no convincing answer to the question raised.

Only this kind of rabble rousing an dnot answering to queries have driven our youngs

    away from the faith .

So please be nice in language and respond only with convincing reply , thayt only will

lead to some united decisions. Our aim is to Unite the community only

please forgive anyone feels hurt, but be sure Iam not for or against any person or

Group , my side is the teachings of Sri Guru Nanak devJi and his next sucessors only

  8. Peshi is like confession in christianity . In our faith Panj Piyare sitting togather are the

form of Guru .In Gurbani the God and the guru is described as the Forgiving One

(in many Places in Adi Granth Sahib Ji) . So the panj Pyare being the Embodiment

of Guru are also Forgiving, the Punish ment (otr TankhaHin Sikhism) is proscribed

for our purification and is in the form of Paath or Some kind of Sewa .As sewa and Simran

and Humility(nimrata ) are the three pillars of our faith , accepting with humility our

mistake honestly itself leads towards purity of soul, further Guru in the form of

Panj Pyare and Sangat in always forgiving (in Sikh History even great Jathedars

like Baba Ala singh of Patiala undertook peshi before sangat asn was forgiven, later

Maharaj aRanjit Singh also presented himself before baba Phoola Singh Akali

for his misdemenours and was let off with token punishment , so no need to

be afraid if you are honest in admission and ready to make amends for future

may go ahead , only repentance and pennance will clear yor concience

if U think some sin has been committed .

Believe me your purification has already been started since you are admitting

with courage your mistakes before so many readers , which is another embodiment

    of Sadh Sangat

Good luck , may the Almighty bestow his blessings on your nirmal Atma ,

my good wishes are with you

  9. Yeah love is not forbidden but weird things like momentary lustrous attraction in the name

of love is not advisable . Not in any faith of the world .

We can be in unison with the creater by loving him only.

What in sufism is termed as Ishq mijaji is worldly love and Ishq hakiki is love with God

The milloin dollar question is what actually love is? love as widely accepted by the Gianis

and Sants , is caring and giving without expectation in return .

If we can indulge in such Love , yes it is already advised by the learned .it is first step towards the

    Bhakti

  10. Stories like this teach us how we ignore the most precious gifts the god

wants to give us , for we are attracted by the outer looks of th ethings

we see, but most of the times looks are deceptive

all requested to please share such stories

thanks hats off to guy who posted it

  11. It would have been better if PJS had controlled his emotions and replied logically to the questions

raised in the article translated by him . Yes I agree that a lot of harm to Sikh ideology has been

done by the Udasi and Nirmala Sects, but there is a contribution by these sects in spread of the

thought of Guru Nanak Dev Ji , and we the sikhs could have capitalise and build on their work

by bringing the semi sikhs(prepared by these sects ) into mainstream of Sikhi . We can not

blame them for our mistakes . the need of hour is to identify among these sects the true believers

in the message of BAba Nanak ji and the agents of Brahminism (who need exposed ) so that

sangat saves itself from these elements .

Lets not forget that these are nirmalas who have rendered great service in making Tikas of

many parts of SGGS ji and also they are the greatest exponents of comparative religion amongst

    the Sikhs .

Further calling some one by turning his name into feminine (Darshno for Darshan Singh) merely

to derogate him, exposes our anti woman mind (are we not told by our Great gurus to respect

women and treat them as equals). Which again mean we have not imbibed the true spirit

of Sikhi , beleve me my wife was greatly disturbed after reading this article of PJS for his

    anti woman stand .

I think in all the faiths of world there are thousands of sects , burt they do not slander each other

like we people do . in the above article I do not find a single logical answer to the writings in the

    spokesman

to finish myself may I request all to please remain alert to your language , and please provide

befitting logical replies only , in the light of the Gurbani and Gurmat , for Gurbani as I feel

    gives reply to all questions

thanks Please do not feel offended My request is to only being logical

  12. Why do we not understand that all the different meanings to colours are ascribed by the man himself.

one color may have different attributes in different time & places . Like in india the bridal color

is red\crimson While in west the bridal dress is always white(which in India and the east is worn

in mourning times. The crux of the matters is all the colors are made by the Almighty for our

benifit(VIBGYOR) are the colors which our eyes can differentiate, black is absence of any color,

whirte is combo of all the seven, and there may be many more which are beyond recognition

by the human eyes. so lets enjoy the all and praise the Lord(almighty)

  13. I once again request everyperson concerned to see the logic behind the move, if there is no logic, the move has to be rejected.

Please , we should be arguing the topic on reason only, not on sentiments only. Secondly our great Gurus have shown us the

path to be followed, weight all pros and cons on the parametres of Gurmat , if something does not conform to Gurmat , we have the

reason and right to reject it outright . So please apply your mind the standard parameters of Gurmat are before us , if not only

this calander , but every other issue fits inside all corners of Gurmat , accept it , otherwise reject it , disregarding the source.

Please forgive if it seems to hurt any one, but we have only KASAUTI of gurmat to examine such issues and ideas

    thanks

  14. The original calender as proposed by PS Purewas and later adopted by SGPC is a solar calender

measuring year as one revolution of earth around sun ( previously in india known as Saka Calander

while the new amendments undertaken are based on lunar movement ( introducing Panchamis,

masiya, Puranmasi etc.) by doing this the whole community is becoming laughing stock in the world.Hey

Parmatma sadi leadership nu vi sumat bakhsho , so that they know basics of Astronomy before

    doing any damage.

  15. i may add that Guru Nanak Dev Ji had the courage to challenge the bigotry, ritualism , unequality , and the practitioners to these ghastardly

acys right at their doorsteps, not fearing the concequences, thus setting before us example to practice what he called in his 9th incarnation

, Sri Guru Tegbahadur Sahib ji - bhai kahu ko det nahi, nah bhai manat aan kaho Nanak sun rei mana giani tahe bakhaan ( that person, who

does not terrorise others, nor can he be terrorised by any one , O Nanak he (such man )only is to be described as Gyani(the learned One)

he neither feared the political class nor the religious one, and pointed out in fearless manner their shortcomings and mistakes

May god lead us to follow example set before us by such great GURUs

  16. Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born iin the year 1469A.D.in a village 40 miles from Lahore in North west.Guru Nanak Dev Ji lived for 70 years.Various miracles have been attributed to Guru NanakOne of them being that the sky was illuminated with dazzling light during the night of Guru Nanak's birth. The pure and Exhalted life led by Guru Nanak propounded him as a humble religious teacher.

Guru Nanak's birth came at a critical period in India's history. India was slipping fast into the hands of the Mogul invaders after the earlier Islamic invasionsfrom Central Asia and Middle East. Hindu society dominated by the Brahmins was rife with caste divisions and ritualism. while the ruling Muslim community deviating from the essence the religion, practised fanaticism and tyranny, imposing their Islamic faith on others.

In one of his hymns, Guru Nanak has described Indias state in the following words, "Kings are butchers; cruelty is their weapon. The sense of duty has taken wings and vanished.Falsehood is over the land as a veil of darkness, the darkness of the darkest night."

Guru Nanak made great contribution towards bringing about unity and harmony between Hinduism and Islam by reminding them that the ultimate goal of both is one and the same.Guru is a teacher or mentor that initiates a discipline into the metaphysical and spiritual discipline. His philosophic thought was intuitive and his spiritual insights were self-attained.
