As I've said ignorance is not bliss especially when the lives of billions of fellow human beings is concerned. Question is are we as a community going to sit back and complain on net, or be proactive and create counter arguments blogs and videos on youtube? There is not enough younger generation of Sikhs who are political active. Uranium content in Bathinda water High Anjali Singh Deswal Tribune News Service Bathinda, April 9 2009 Guru Nanak Dev University has claimed that high uranium content have been found in water samples collected from Bathinda and its suburbs and it is the main reason of a high incidence of cancer among local people. Sources from university’s department of physics told The Tribune today that high uranium content had been found in samples taken from tube-wells and hand-pumps. Dr Surinder Singh, senior professor of physics, said they tested water for uranium content and other metals seeing the increasing number of cancer patients in this area. Kidney cancer, lung cancer, retarded development in children and high blood pressure were attributed to uranium. He said: “The World Health Organisation states that 15 micro gram of uranium in one litre of water is safe for drinking but samples from Bathinda and nearby places contain 100 micro grams of uranium in one litre of water. Such a high content does severe damage to our kidneys. This is the main reason for a single village in the Malwa belt having 100 cases of cancer. We had surveyed 22 villages of this region”. A main reason cited by the sources for the high uranium contents in groundwater was radioactive rich granite present in Tosham hills of Bhiwani district in Haryana. Falling in love with this temporary life, people in it and dunia is easy. Being on the path of Sikhism is the hardest, because its all about conquering your mind, as gurbani states conquer your mind you will conquer the world. Yeah this is where some within our community who get lost into the politics of punjab and jathabandi rather than actually using their own brain and deciding for themselves what makes sense. I have no jatha, I belong to no sect, I only owe my spiritual and earthly allegiance to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. So if someone has some interesting research or something to say about Sikhi and Sikh history bringing forth their evidence I will have a look at it without ignoring it from the outset like what a muslim usually would do, a sign of true ignorance. A Sikh is supposed to be constantly striving to learn to be a student of the Guru, of the world and to keep searching for answers. Small mindedness and slandering is what weak people do who have a probably low level of intelligence or education.

When gurbani talks about devi's and dev's they are spoken in the metaphoric sense rather than literal this is what some sikhs become confused thinking maybe we should be worshipping or revering hindu gods or on the contrary we should stay away from anything that is connected to Hinduism. Truth is Sikhi uses the examples of hindu deities to convey the message to the hindu's back in the days (as there werent any or many sikhs around) what they were doing was wrong or unjust to change, reform and guide society. So in that context we have to have an open mind and look at things in perspective.
