  1. Despite Sikh Channel repeating every programee, I bet now,

they won't repeat this one ;)

If anyone has a Sky Plus box, please Pause it at his face,

    and upload on SikhSangat.

I haven't seen the Sikh Channel make a mistake like this before, maybe they just missed it???

I think RSingh96's prediction is right, or is it?

I know Sikhs are not meant to gamble, or have a bet! But, can we all start betting on whether or not Sikh Channel will repeat this Anti-Panth Time they aired yesterday?

I will start the betting off with a No, they will not repeat this as it was yesterday! As in I don't think they will air this programme without editing out some of the anti-Sikhi/anti-Pathic statements they made on this Anti-Panth Time .

Maybe we should start calling the people on that panel, and other people like them, Anti Ji's, because the are so very Anti-Panthic!!!

Anyway, I have started a betting off with a No!

Do we have any more No's, or Yes'es

Come on! Don't be scared, put your money where your mouth is!!!

  2. well we should stick to our original traditional ways by not doing missionary work. we pride ourselves in that we have grew into such a large religion without the islamic and christian tatics of missionary work. now thats something that attract intellectuals towards sikhi. alternatively, we should set great examples of sikhi ourselves by practicing, living and breathing sikhi as others look on and wonder who are these amazing people and what makes them so special?

Very well put! As long as we have something in place for the intellectuals who are attracted to Sikhi to make them feel welcome! It would be a terrible shame if people wanted to come into Sikhi but then moved away from Guru Ji, due to us being unwelcoming.

I agree about your point about Sikhs not trying to pull people away from their own religions.. You're right we should be proud of that!!!:D

  3. It's a shame a Sikh Firm, or any Firm that like people who believe in justice and truth, don't head hunt this Singh!

I know that the above is not really the answer in that a tribunal case should be brought forward and this Sikh should be reinstated. However, if the indian government won't even prosecut a single person for the thousands and thousands of Sikh Children, women and men that were burnt alive and murdered in 84, and since, then we can't expect anything from them here.

    Just a thought!

  4. Yes, the above all seems to be speculation. Unless, the writer of the letter, and the presenter mentioned, comes forward, it could be totally made up.

I sorry, but at the moment your post could be seen as a ploy to split Sikhs up in general, and break any existing unity of the Sikh Channels, and the Sangat who watch those channels!

Without anyone seeing the letter headed correspondence, it could all be made up!

how did you come across the letter?

Are you able to scan the letter and post it on this tread!

  5. . So if the parents don't make a concerted effort to not only look like true Gursikhs but also behave like true Gursikhs, then how will the children fare any better?

Or even worse - they could be manmukhs hiding behind Gursikh saroop. But I suppose for some people that doesn't matter for as long as people look the part that's all that counts, ey?

Yes, Or even worse - they could be the Manmukhs who say that "Guru Gobind Singh Ji was wasting his time when he took Amrit from the Panj Piyare, and did not cut his hair, and wore the 5 K's. You know, those Manmukhs who compete with Guru Gobind Singh Ji himself by trying to say that Sikhs don't need to do what Guru Gobind Singh Ji did, and told us to do, ey?

By the way, are you a brother or a sister?

  6. When you look at Sant Jarnail Singh Ji's, commitment, knowledge(Gian), Kamai (how much Bani he did), Service for the Panth! Shaheedi (sacrifice) for the Panth! and then you hear just anybody having a go at Sant Ji, then you think what an upside down world this is!!!

As God is my witness, I can honestly say, that the Amrtdhari Singhs I have met with open beards, who do Panj Bania, wear the 5 K's, Bana and 'round Dastars, are not extremists!!! They respect other religions, and believe that other religions have a right to practice, and are very happy to see others practice their religion. All I have noticed is that they do not like it when people who do not believe in the Gurus, or follow the Gurus' Teachings, and code of conduct, try to convince other Sikhs that they do not need to follow Gurmat too !!

Somebody should tell the man on Panth time today, that being a moderate Sikh does not mean that you have to stop believing in most of the things our Gurus told us to believe. The Amritdharis I have met want other faiths to be happy, but they also want the Sikh Nation to understand it's own faith and code of conduct, what's wrong with that???

I can totally understand why Southall Youth is upset! He has every right to be!! (to be honest my bloods boiling too)

I think you'll find that the Sikh Channel will not repeat this Panth Time, without editing it, because, they will draw the line at airing anti-Sikh programmes. If you don't believe me, record the repeat of this Panth Time and compare it with the one you already have on your Sky boxes, and see if they don't edit that man's speech. That's if the Sikh Channel repeat it!!! That man did say some things that went against Sikhi/Gurmat!!!

Funny how our so called 'own', hurt our hearts the most. May be that's because they are on the inside!!!

  7. It also depends on one's finances too. You can't condemn somebody for having a couple of kids if they can't afford to have anymore. That's irresponsible and does more damage to the children they do have in the long-term. Its not all about increasing the ranks of a population. There's such an issue as social responsibility.

If we can guarantee the children will grow up to be Gursikh, then go for it. Until such an enlightened time arrives, we'd just be introducing more confused and lost kids who are Sikh by name only.

Also, if anyone is expecting a generation of 'Guru Ke Laadle' from the very people who are ashamed of giving their children Sikh names, well then that's naive. The type of names I've heard the generation before mine (the 30+ age group) give to their kids is an absolute disgrace. Muslim, Hindu and Christian names given to Sikh children whilst the impotent elders stand-by and do nothing.

    @ Kuljugi - Excellent point!!!

On this point alone - I apologise if I have ever come across as having a go at you.

  8. @ 11Gurus1Jot - I was referring to broader, historical, non-Sikhi events rather than theological debate in the particular instance you've quoted above. As I made clear in my first post in this thread, nothing compares to the teachings of our Gurus, and by extension Sikhi.

Are you suggesting I'm querying the validity of Guru Granth Sahib Ji? I can't tell whether you're making general points in the post above, or you're having a go at me. Clear up any confusion please.

@ Kaljugi - I'm not having a go, I understand what you mean about History. However, I do think the majority of Sikhs know very little about their own Religion and History, including me. My posts are not really aimed at the members on the Sikh Sangat Forum, but more at Sikhs, who are just 'gettin into to Sikhi', who happen to land on this site. So for example, with this particular topic, I'd rather a 'newcomer' Sikh read more about Sikh History, Sikh Religion, Sikh Philosophy, and Paath in general, that's all.

Dalsingh101 put my point across better than I ever could with his post at 08:04am.

I want just want to enter posts which will make 'beginners' want to explore their religion deeper. If in the process I say anything wrong, or saying anything anti-Gurmat, then I am more than happy to be corrected by the learned Sikhs on this site!

I just wish I manage to read, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Dasam Granth, Bhai Gurdass Diya Vara before I die. When I say read, I mean read and know what the words mean (I appreciate that there is an even deeper meaning too). Otherwise, I'd feel like I'd talked more about Sikhi, rather than actually read the Gurus' Teachings. Another way of putting it would be, could you imagine the difference between the following doing a comparison with Sikhi, and me dong a comparison with Sikhi

    • Sant Jarnail Singh Ji
    • Bhai Pinderpal Singh Ji
    • Giani Takhur Singh Ji Patiala Wale
    • Sant Maskeen Ji

I've listen to Parchariks from other religions, but I have to say, they don't come close to the Singhs above (just my opinion)!!

History, as you say, is a totally different ball game!

Please see my profile, I updated it when I joined. If you remember that my posts are aimed at 'newcomers' and not at any members, then you'll see what I'm really doing.

Unless, two members are 'PM'ing each other on this site, they are talking to all the young impressionable Sikhs out there!!

I think, sometimes, your posts are a bit too intellectual! And although they may be understood by the more Advanced Sikhs, newcomers/youngsters, who have yet to attend uni etc, may not grasp the point you are trying to make.

Please let me know if the confusion has been cleared up.

Like I say, Dal Singh has summed it up nicely!!

  9. The problem is that unless one has access to an alternative viewpoint / evidence, you'll be shouted down as a madman or ignorant.

Yes I am going to get all the other alternative view points too. Although you can only compare somebody else's view point to your own if you know your own view point first. If you check out other viewpoints or religion first then your really just following, or checking out, their religion, or view point, and not comparing because you've got nothing to compare

Remember that ickle thread when we were saying that a lot of the theologians don't have any knowledge of, or even acknowledge Sikhi at all!!! So why would we possbly want to get 'hooked' by them, if we hadn't read our own history and religion first.

I am going to study all religions and view points, after, I have studing my own. So first, I'd like to understand my Guru Ji, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. This would involve reading, and listening to, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, and actually trying to understand the shabad as well. All 1430 pages. Ideally, I like to read Dasam Granth first as it helps you understand Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Oh, and there also Bhai Gurdass Ji diya Vara to read which are also known as the Keys to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

As soon as I've done that then I'll start reading the Bible and Koran, as some Christians and Muslims have urged me to do, as then I would be able to compare them to the religion my Guru Ji. If I don't understand my own religion how can I make a comparison.

By the way, how long do you think it will take me to read, and understand, Bhai Gurdass diya Vara, Dasam Granth, and Siri Guru Granth Sahib JI? as then I'll have something to compare!

  10. We should all pay respect to these extraordinary Singhs:

When SIkhs are prepared to risk their lively hoods, or even their life, for humanity, the least we can do is give them half an hour to watch one of their recordings, in the comfort of our warm homes, or Gurdware.

There should not be an adult Punjabi speaking Sikh alive on the planet who has not watched this video.

May be somebody could ask one of the channels to show it again, along with the new posts above.

If anyone knows anybody at the channels below please get them to play this video on their channel, or recorded speach on their radio station:

Shouldn't this video be played in every Gurdwara too!!

Don't forget, Punjabi speakers, please watch this link and then ask the channels below to play it:

  11. From what I have read, heard and watched, Santh Jarnail SIngh Ji always stood up for the respect of women. He always spoke up agianst the corrupt police or government officials of india when they would rape or humuliate any women in front of a whole village, or in private. Even if this meant risking his life from Government snippers, or being arrested by the corrupt police to be tourched or killed in custody.

Santh Jarnail Singh Ji was one of Guru Gobind Singh Ji's true Saint Soilder Sons !!!!

Could you imagine if any of us had his bravery, or even the courage to speak in public, against injustices!!!

  12. If any Singhs or Kaurs want to, they could contact the channels below to start running short promotions every hour, every day, showing the clips RSingh96 has got on his post above. It would be a really good idea if, on issues such as this, all the TV channels got together and made one promotion ad for this Census issue. This would work really well in two ways, 1) the message would be consistent from all 3 TV channels , reducing any confusion within the sangat, and 2) it would only cost them a 3rd of the cost to make the promo (a real win win I think you'll agree). The Sikh Radio Stations could do the same too.

Like I say, if anybody knows anyone at any of these channels then please contact them with this 'one census promo for all 3 channels' idea, as the date is getting closer!!!. All Singhs or Kaurs should contact them too!

  13. Remember: we as sikhs must fill in the Census as a separate ethnic group (as shown in RSingh96's post above) or people may start to call us liars!!

    The reason being...

The definition I have seen for Ethnic is "cultural: denoting or deriving from or distinctive of the ways of living built up by a group of people"

We are all constantly told that Sikhi is not just a religion but also a way of life - True? So if we did not mark ourselves as a separate Ethnic group on the Census Form, then wouldn't that make us liars??????? Because, as Sikhs, we are not supposed to tell lies!!!

  14. This person will be care free: will have no interest in marriage, job

    /quote]

This is not a critisism, or an attempt to try and catch you out, as have heard this from other Sikhs and Parchariks too.

But, is the part I copied above only Temporary? In that, does the person go back to doing honest kirat (one of the 3 golden rules given by Guru Nanak) and become a householder. I'm just checking for my own knowledge.

Bhoojangi doesn't have to answer this, anybody can.

Also, is the 'vivek', the 'Bibek dhaan' we mention in Ardaas? I know english spelling of punjabi can vary, so I thought I'd check.

  15. Bhagat Kabir Ji had a seven year old daughter "Today my father has decided to interview you and after the interview he will call you inside. But before you enter to see him I have been appointed by my dad to carry out a special task. In my hand I have a very sharp chopper; to enter and see my father you must first put your head down on this log of wood and I will then chop it off."

There was a deep silence and the congregation took a step back after hearing the little girl's words. After some time and with people coming out with all sorts of excuses; no one was ready to give up their head and present it to Bhagat Kabir Ji.

    ਕਬੀਰ ਜਉ ਤੁਹਿ ਸਾਧ ਪਿਰੰਮ ਕੀ ਸੀਸੁ ਕਾਟਿ ਕਰਿ ਗੋਇ ॥

kabeer jo thuhi saadhh pira(n)m kee sees kaatt kar goe ||

Kabeer, if you desire to play the game of love with the Lord, then cut off your head, and make it into a ball.

    ਖੇਲਤ ਖੇਲਤ ਹਾਲ ਕਰਿ ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਇ ਤ ਹੋਇ ]239]

khaelath khaelath haal kar jo kishh hoe th hoe ||239||

Lose yourself in the play of it, and then whatever will be, will be. ||239||

After a lengthy period of time Bhagat Kabir Ji came out and asked his daughter why no one came to satsangat today.

She answered, "Today I told them my father wanted to interview them first. I explained that you wanted their heads chopped off before they came to see you. But no one dared to enter! Nobody presented their head!! Nobody allowed me to chop of their heads!!! So what is the use of your satsang my dear father?

    ਸਤਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਗਾਖੜੀ ਸਿਰੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥

sathagur kee saevaa gaakharree sir dheejai aap gavaae ||

It is very difficult to serve the True Guru. Surrender your head; give up your selfishness.

The young seven year old then said, "Father please please take pity on them, they don't understand. They have been blinded like this for millions of years and they will continue to suffer every day until they learn how to live. These I's, you's, me's, he's and she's are not allowed in satsang!"

Don't you like to live forever!

    ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਪਹਿ ਵੇਚਿਆ ਮਨੁ ਦੀਆ ਸਿਰੁ ਨਾਲਿ ॥

than man gur pehi vaechiaa man dheeaa sir naal ||

I have sold my body and mind to the Guru, and I have given my mind and head as well.

Makes you realise how special the Panj Piyare really were, and how significant 1699 was. The Panj Piyare went beyond the point the disciples above were scarred to cross. The Panj Piyare did offer their heads! Amazing!
