  1. Taken from http://www.nihangsingh.org/blog/

Supreme servant of the Guru's house, Bhai Nand Lal Singh Ji (1633-1713) wrote the words of the Guru which is now known was "Rehitnama Bhai Nand Lal Ji". Below is the code of discipline from the holy master's mouth.

ਰਹਿਤ ਨਾਮਾ Rehit Nama : Code of Conduct

ਸ੍ਰ੍ਰ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਵਾਚ Speech of Sri Guru Ji

    ਚੌਪਈChaupai

    ਰੋਮ ਰੋਮ ਅੱਛਰ ਸੋ ਲਹੇDeem that written on each of your body-hairs,

    ਬਾਤ ਜਦਾਰਥ ਤੁਮ ਸੋਂ ਸਤਿ ਕਹੋਂ ॥ (੧੩)And I speak the truth to you for veracity.

    ਜੋ ਸਿੱਖ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕੀ ਚਾਹਿThe Sikh desirous of the Guru's Darshan,

    ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰੇ ਗੰਰ੍ਰ੍ਥ ਜੀ ਆਹਿ ॥ (੧੪)Should go and have the Darshan of Granth Jee,

    ਪਰਭਾਤ ਸਮੇਂ ਕਰਕੇ ਇਸਨਾਨAfter bathing early in the morning,

    ਤੀਨ ਪਰਦਛਣਾਂ ਕਰੇ ਸੁਜਾਨ ॥ (੧੫)They should faithfully circle three times.

    ਦੋਹਰਾDohira

ਹਾਥ ਜੋੜ ਕਰ ਅਦਬ ਸੋਂ ਬੈਠੇ ਮੋਹਿ ਹਜ਼ੂਰWith folded hands they should be seated, seeking my audience,ਸੀਸ ਟੇਕ ਗੁਰ ਗਰੰਥ ਜੀ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਣੇ ਸੋ ਹਜ਼ੂਰ ॥ (੧੬)And after bowing your head to Guru Granth Jee, listen to the celestial teachings.

Good post. Circle three times and sit with folded hands is a very clear instruction to have. I will try and remember to be seated with folded hands. I wonder if I will ever see anyone circle three times though! Many circle once, but I haven't seen 3 times, yet!

  2. How do we know they're undercover fake Sikhs and Hindus?

Oh that's a piece of cake. They fake Sikh sites will not specify very clearly that:

    • Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji (which has the light/soul of the ten Gurus from Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji to Sri Guru Gobind Singh Sahib Ji) is the only living Guru of the Sikhs from1708 to eternity.
    • They will also try to say you do not need to take Amrit, or if you do, it's deosn't need to be taken from the Panj Piyare Amritdhari Sikhs.

Anti-Sikh agencies have been trying to lead Sikhs away from the above two facts Since Guru Gobind Singh Ji returned to Sach Khand (the plain of truth)!

If a Sikh sticks to the above two facts she/he will NEVER go wrong!!!

  3. Personally, I definitely see myself as Sikh, I have a strong love for my Guru (and I know this will prompt questions of "If you love your Guru, then why do you go against the wishes of Guru ji - well how many of us do what our parents tell us to to the fullest extent?) - I am on a path of learning (isn't that what a Sikh is?) and I hope to achieve a greater sense of accomplishment and be a better, fuller Sikh (if that makes any sense)

But my question is - should someone who does not adhere to full rehit mark themselves as a Sikh on the census form? Is it a case of one rule for a certain situation and other rules for another circumstance?

I think, you, or anyone else, who wears a Kara, and tells anybody that they are a Sikh, should fill in the Census form, as a Sikh. Otherwise, people will say, "you only call yourself a Sikh when it suits you i.e. to attach yourself to the great history of the Gurus and Gursikhs (like we all do), but then, on the one occasion when you needed to stand up and be counted you deliberately backed out just to despise your Guru's Amritdhari Sikhs.

Another way of putting it, is, should you ever say, or give, the impression, to anyone, that your are a Sikh, if you didn't want to put it on the Census Form, when it was the real time for you to call yourself a Sikh?

At the end of the day, it's up to you, do what you think would please Guru Ji, if, you want to please Guru Ji.

The way I see it is, if we Sikhs DO tick the following boxes i.e.......

    • Tick Q16E as other, and then write Sikh
    • and at Q20 tick Sikh

Then there is big difference to the rights we will receive, as Sikhs, if we do get ourselves recognised as an ethinic group. If there wasn't a difference, then there would not be an enthic group section on the form, there would only be a religious section!!!

The definition I have seen for Ethnic is "cultural: denoting or deriving from or distinctive of the ways of living built up by a group of people"

We are all constantly told that Sikhi is not just a religion but also a way of life - True? So if we did not mark ourselves as a separate Ethnic group on the Census Form, then wouldn't that make us liers??????? Because, as Sikhs, we are not supposed to tell lies!!! And that's why we have to state Sikh, and NOT indian!!!

  4. I have noticed a problem that many Sikhs are openly claiming they will still classify themselves as Indian. I have received a barrage of text messages from ill-informed Sikhs who seem to want to interpret the whole Sikh ethnic classification campaign as an attack on their "Indian-ness" by hardcore Khalistani fundamentalists.

Anyone got a template text regarding the benefits to the UK Sikh community of the Sikh Ethnic classification. I thought something along the lines:

"Without recording "Sikh" in the census we will not receive the recognition and resources our community deserves. The simple example is Healthcare and Support for elderly Sikhs can be targeted specifically for our needs and our elders won't get incorrectly catered for under the "Asian" category."

Anyone else able to help with a good narrative regarding benefits to text out ? This needs to be actioned fast before misinterpretations lead to people making the wrong decisions on the Cenus form.

The way I see it is if we Sikhs DO tick the following boxes......

    • Tick Q16E as other, and then write Sikh
    • and at Q20 tick Sikh

..... then we've got more chance of getting the following issues, and many many others, resolved:

    • Disrespect being shown towards our Turbans at airports and in life generally
    • More chances of our children being allowed to wear their Turbans in schools (look what happened in France)
    • They could even ban patker in future (some children in this country have experienced problems with Turbans and Patker already)
    • More chance of us being able to wear Kirpans at airports and in life generally
    • More chance of our children being able to wear Kirpans in schools now, and in the future! It is already being blocked in schools
    • More chance of our children being able to wear a Kara in Schools in the future
    • More chance of Sikhi being taught in schools, in RE, in future
    • And ANY other 'political issues facing the Sikhs in Britain today

The above issues, and many others, ONLY effect Sikhs, not indians!!! That's why we are listing ourselves as Sikhs, not to attack indian-ness but to gain our rights as Sikhs (we can't expect somebody else to gain our rights for us, can we?

There is big difference to the rights we will receive, as Sikhs, if we do get ourselves recognised as an ethnic group.

  5. Dear Singhs & Kaurs (well some Singhs and Kaurs who have gone off this topic, abit),

Is there any chance we can just stick to the agenda and just get as many Sikhs to do the following when filling in their cencus form:

    • Tick Q16E as other, and then write Sikh
    • and at Q20 tick Sikh

We only have to cover and publicise the two points in red, nothing else!

If we don't do it, then we have no right to complain when the government does not take Sikhs into consideration on any matters whatsoever!

The above points are at the corner of this webside too! This is Miri, definitions from Sikipedia below

Let's just get the above printed on big signs in Gurdware, and Get the Gurdware to announce it, and assist people.

If we want to get the Singhs and Kaurs in our Sikh Media to help us, then please contact them using any of the means below. Some have already done it, or already got it in the pipeline, so let's not make too many assumptions

I like conspiracy theories too, but on a separate topic!

    Miri

The word miri has been derived from Persian word “miri”, which itself comes from the Arabic “amir” which literary means commander, governor, lord, prince, etc, and signifies temporal power, civil authority or material control. The word miri and piri are frequently used together.

    Piri

The word piri has been derived from Persian “pir” literary meaning senior man, saint, holy man, spiritual guide, head of a religious order and stands for spiritual authority or non-material or non-worldly power; control over the soul of the person; pertaining to the non-material world. The word miri and piri are frequently used together.

    Miri Piri

The words “miri and piri” in Sikh tradition are used in reference to the temporal and spiritual components of life. The term, Miri Piri represents, for Sikhs, the basic principle that has influenced their political thought and governed their social structure, political behaviour, organisation, leadership and politics since the origin of the concept by Guru Hargobind (1595 - 1644) who, unlike his five predecessors, adopted a princely style right from the time of his installation in 1606 as the sixth Guru or prophetmentor of the Sikhs, when as part of the investiture he wore on his person two swords, one representing Miri (political) command of the community and Piri with pin, spiritual leadership.

  6. As long as you don't dishonour a religious symbol through your actions and wear it with the understanding of what the 'gifter' or 'giver' of that religious symbol expected you to believe in, or follow, before you wore it, then all is OK!

For example, if I wore a Muslim Skullcap, or Nuns Outfit, or a Crucifix, or any such religious symbols, and then mugged an old lady, or walked around drunk out of my mind on Friday nights with them on, then I would only be disrespecting those religious symbols and the people of those religious faiths. It would be just as disrespectful if I wore them without having the decency to do the required amount of research to find out what those symbols stood for, or what the gifter/giver of those symbols expected me to believe in, or follow, before I wore those symbols.

Again, if I wore a Muslim or Jewish Skullcap, and didn't even bother to find out that you could not ear pork if you wore those symbols, as directed by Mohammed, then I would be disrespecting both Mohammed and the Muslims, and Moses and the Jews, by wearing those Skullcaps. It would also be more than just 'not being perfect', and instead it would be an insult to Islam and the Jewish faith. Or, if I wore Hindu symbols and ate beef I would be disrespecting Hindus. Or, if I wore a crucifix but did not believe in Jesus then I would be disrespecting Christianity. A Christian can be perfect and eat Pork, but a Muslim is far from perfect who eats pork, A Muslim can be perfect and eat Beef, but a Hindu is far from perfect who eats beef. So what we wear does bring about some very specific instructions/codes. Otherwise, we are just making a game of it and making it up as we going along!!!

So, in the same way, wearing a Kara, and carrying out actions which are not in accordance with Sikhi, is dispectful to Guru Ji and the Sikhs. You don't have to be perfect to wear a Kara, but you should do the relevant amount of research before wearing a Kara, otherwise, it's no different to eating pork whilst wearing a Muslim or Jewish Skullcap.

  7. Everytime bare faced liers like this, spout out evil lies like this, they lie against God himself! For if God records every FACT that has taken place, then in this particular instance (1984), they a contradicting the events God himself has already recorded. How can they call God himself a lier? For when you deny the truth you are calling God a lier, because God is Truth!

I guess they'll have to explain it to God when then stand in front of the him. Oh, I forgot, these people obviously forget that they are going to die, and have to explain themselves to God, that's if they have any concept of God at all!!

These people will generate more of these lies to carry out 'another 1984', they're probably thirsty for the blood of more innocent Sikh Children, Women, and Men!

Dear Singhs and Kaurs, it looks like it's time for us to Join Amnesty International, and get Justice for 1984, once and for all!

That's in addition to supporting our Sikh Media (the best form of defence against these people):

It's survival of the fittest now, and the religions with the fittest media will survive!!

  9. In Sri Dasam Granth, Guru Ji explains that Krishna is born and dies and there have been many Krishnas since time began. So, no, he isn't worshipped. His good qualities are praised however. In fact, In Chaubis Avtaar, Guru Ji makes it quite clear why we don't worship Krishna.

You have to place the above Shabad in context - best listen to Katha from Sant Gurbachan Singh Ji (on www.gurmatveechar.com) where they explain the shabad in depth.

Matheen statement is back up by Japji Sahib Ji.

So many winds, waters, and fires, so many Krishnas and Shivas

kaethae pavan paanee vaisa(n)thar kaethae kaan mehaes ||

Guru Nanak Dev Ji told us that there were many Krishnas but told us to worship Akaal Purkh Vaheguru (the one and only true God)

PS. Does anybody know how to make Gurmukhi Script appear on your posts?

  10. Lavpal, I heard a good one recently, and that was, " a family that prays together, stays together".

What about if you and your parents all sat in the same room and recited Japji Sahib da paath together, outloud? Or full nitnem, out loud?

You could try it in the morning and may be all plan to be nice to each on that day, as a start.

If they both have love for Guru Ji/Sikhi, then hopefully, that bond, will keep them together!:waheguru:

  11. My problem with these "alternative history" theories that the likes of David Icke, and the fella above, etc., propose is that there is no mention of Sikhi in their theories.

Sikhi is meant to be the light which leads this world towards the Truth, yet none of these people even acknowledge the existence of Sikhi. Predictably, they bung it in with all the other "organised religions" of the world. So how I can believe anything these people say when Sikhi isn't even on the radar of these people?

If they have the answers as they claim they do, then surely at least 1 of them has been told by his inter-dimensional buddies that there is a faith on Earth that is the solution to the world's problems, i.e. Sikhi?

Kaljugi - the other theorist, who are of the same ilk as Icke, would never dare to venture too deep into Sikhi, as then all would be explained to them! Then they would have nothing to 'theorise' over!:BL:

  12. We might be related to the first humans on this planet, but humans themselves did not originate from this planet.

That video i posted on the first page, exposes the bible really well, why doesn't anybody watch it? Even just the first 10 minutes, you will wanting to be watching all of it by then.

Harjeet, time permitting I will watch the video.

But in the meantime.... you're not a member of Ron L Hubbard's religion of Sciencetology are you?

Only I hear that thay believe that the Martians (yes from Mars) started us, the human race.

I have also read in a book that scientology is a sect of Christianity. Which kind of makes sense now as your video seems to be backing up Sciencetology via the Bible??

By the way, I don't really think you're a sciencetologist. However, have you ever been 'nearly collared' by them in the past?:umm:

  13. In Punjabi one of the words we use for man is aadami, that's based on the concept of Adam. I have also heard that Aadami referes to the Dam (breath) we take as men. And to stress that we only remain on this earth whilst we are breathing!

Like Kaljugi says, acknowledging the existance of a historical figure does not mean that that figure is meant to be worshiped.

If Adam and Eve did start the human race, then from them came Abraham, who is known as the father of the 3 religions (Judhaism, Christianity, and Isalm). That is to say all Jews, Christains and Muslims are descendants of Abraham. So the connections already there for those relegions. However, they don't worship one anothers religions.

One things for sure, we, every human on this planet, must be related to the first humans on this planet, who ever they were!

  14. There are two types of people:

Those who see the outside only, and those who look at what's inside the person too!

You just need to find some Londoners who fit into the second catergory! :waheguru:

  15. I don't think you don't understand me. You can't get any mp3s, videos, etc., onto your DS without this R4 (or other copies) - but its breaking the law. The DS is a closed architecture system - its not open for modification. Its illegal. But its up to you though.

    Thanks for that!

Looks like the DS Lite will have to stay in the drawer then !

  16. Can we have kkaur69 banned this person is trying to spread disinformation against Sikhism and mischief not to mention speculation to an on going murder case where facts have not been established. No person in their right mind would blame a faultless religion like Sikhism, where scriptures teach to better one self and humanity, so this person choosing "69" as part of their username...well the motives are clear...sure we have problems within our community as do others show me any community out there who doesn't have any problems? But the faith is not to blame. These days we have many an anti-sikh individual who will jump at any opportunity to attack our faith and weaken our faith and sadly here is another troll.

PS. May Waheguru grant brother gagandeep eternal bliss, sad loss to the community

Lets hope the vile criminals who did this deed will brought to justice asap

genie has seen through the so called 'kkaur' (I am not going mention the other part of 'kkaur's forum name for the very reasons genie has already mentioned)!! I think it's totally disrespectful for "kkaur" to post such remarks on the Topic discussing the death of Gagandeep Singh, a Gursikh! Admin should PM genie regularly to get genie's thoughts on the 'dodgy' members on this Forum. We should all be monitored.

I didn't know Gagandeep Singh Ji, but have to say, I feel that we have lost a good one there!! Everyone wants a long life, but what we should all be praying for is to lead a good life, which is to serve others. From what I have heard Gagandeep Singh Ji served many people in his short life, which is what it's all about!

We're all going to go one day! Let's hope we do some good for others before we go!

Wishing Gagandeep Singh's Aatma has merged with Vaheguru Parmatma. Vaheguru Ji bless his family with peace in this difficult time!:waheguru:

  17. The best oil for hair is coconut oil and mustard oil as they are both natural oils and have healing properties, especially, coconut oil as it is anti-fungal and gives a very smooth finish, mustard oil again is excellent, if you put it on the night before, and wash out in the morning, hair is really soft and beautiful, the issue of smell is not problem, if you put it on the night before and wash out in the morning.

The other oils are artificial and will only over the surface of the hair and not penetrate hair. I do not know much about alma oil, but the varieties you get on the market have other chemicals in them, so it is not 100% natural. I just put a dash of olive oil in my older sons hair after washing and my younger son, I put coconut oil as it is prone to tangles.

Would keep away from artifiical beard fixers, because you get older the beard will turn 'yellow'.

    Hope it helps

    Great help!

    Many thanks!

  18. I agree with eliminating activities that are against Sikhi and are non-Gurmat.

However, I'm not of the school of thought that prescribes to the notion that personal hobbies or interests should be prohibited - again, as long these hobbies or interests do not clash with the rules of Sikhi.

A person needs to grow as an individual, and needs to have an active, multi-faceted understanding of life. The importance of gaining knowledge in a wide area of issues is absolutely essential for not only the individual but also the collective Sikh community, for are we not all Sikhs, i.e. students, and as such should we not try to learn as much as we can of everything that life has to offer?

Certain activities bring joy to the heart such as drawing, reading, painting, certain types of music, etc. These aren't a waste of time IMO. But yes, the overriding feature of one's life should be that journey towards Sikhi, but not at the expense of the things in life which bring us joy on a personal level, and enrich our minds making us better human beings.

We would be capable of spreading the word about our glorious faith to the wider world, instead of being cocooned and entrenched in our own sub-groups and our familial lifestyles thinking "To hell with everyone else. As long as I get to Sachkhand, my brothers and sisters on this earth can do whatever they want. Not my problem."

    Good points!

Anything that does not harm you, or anyone else, and helps you learn about other cultures and religion is a good thing. Especially, if it does not involve a Sikh giving up the beliefs and moral principles the Guru's gave us.:waheguru:

  19. I don't know exactly but from what I've heard, its drag 'n' drop. Obviously you can only get mp3s, mp4s onto your DS with these R4 cards. But like I said, they're banned in the UK. Its not worth the hassle. If you've got a simple smartphone with an SD card, just copy your mp3s over to that, and listen to it via the phone's built-in speaker.

    THanks for that Kaljugi,

I haven't got a smartphone so will see if I can find a way to get Gurbani, in any format, onto the DS Lite.

    Thanks again!

  20. I never knew that.

Does that give anyone else chills (in a good way)? Brilliant.

Thank you, But as I say to anyone who listens to me. Please always get what I say checked out (or get a second opinion from a learned Sikh).

I say this for your protection as my knowledge is limited. And you know what they say... a little bit of knowledge can be very dangerous.

If you do speak to somebody and get a different answer please do let me know, that way we are all learing new things!

  21. Brother / Sister, have you been naughty and purchased an R4 card? That's illegal you know.

I am not joking, but, I don't even know what a R4 Card is. I really don't know how to get any Gurbani, in any format, on DS Lite. Any format will do, video, mp4, pdf, anything!

By the was it's Brother.:waheguru: :waheguru:
