  1. Like Kaljugi said, it's good that you are at least looking into this rather than just putting a pair of sissors to your hair. Also, like the previous poster said it's about how God made you (and there's are no fault's in God's plan and creation, which you are a part of).

There's no doubt that the world is putting more and more pressure on men to look more and more like women. With even 'closer shaves' and face creams for men, men themsleves are taking more and more pride in having shiny feminine complexions with pretty little faces (may be we are all turning bi-sexual on a subliminal level? - there's certainly a lot of confusion out there!!).

    Survey:

One thing you could do is carry out a little survey...

Speak to all the Sikh boys who keep their hair from 4 years old to 15 years old. Listen to their answers and see how inspired you are by their answers and character.

Then speak to all the Sikh men aged 30 to 80 years old who take great care in keeping a feminine appearance by keeping their face totally free of hair and going to hair stylists and beauticians to keep crafted hair styles. Listen to their answers too and see how inspired you are by their answers.

Remember, the above survey must be given by somebody who professes to be a Sikh and answers as a Sikh. Please test each on the Guru's teachings i.e. how much of Guru Granth Sahib Ji's individual shabads do they understand and how much of the history of the Gurus do they know (or even names of Gurus etc). As if we don't even now our Guru Ji's message and writings, and examples through their lives, what do we know?

I think you will be very surprised with the findings of your Survey and will definitely keep your hair!!

    Video:

Or you could just watch this video:

  2. Wouldn't it be nice if somebody invented some really low profile earphones that slid up through the side of your turban to rest in your ears? Some that were actually fixed to the end of a Sylaee (needle), or had a long fixed neck rather than just floppy wire. This way you could actually slide them up the side of your turban without having to get your thumb and fore finger up to your ear too and spoiling your turban's neatness in the process.

This would make listening to keertan much more accessible and appealing for Sikhs on public transport.

I don't suppose if anybody's come across any earphones that already happen to fill this criteria?

  3. Then the question is how do we go about organising the developers of these program to get their bani proof read?

I was thinking that the relevant Jathabundis or Gyanis or Granthis could just download all the apps available and just email the developer of any mistakes for the developer to then simply send out updates for the apps that will automatically correct all apps (it's up to the users to ensure they get all updates).

It's a shame that there isn't a single site that rates all gurbani apps available so users could be made aware of those apps that contain mistakes, and where they contain mistakes.

I suppose the same problem has existed with Gutke or Pothi Sahibs where there has been errors or different versions floating around (I have to say that I have always relied on the Taksaal's print media). I think Gurbani apps and all electronic media have a great role to play (like MP3 files etc).

You have picked up on a very valid point but I think it's something that can be fixed if organisations like the taksal help to ensure no mistakes are circulated. Although, most members of the taksal are porbably not in favour of apps due to 'Suechum issues' etc. However, they have to play their role to ensure the sangat are not mislead through apps - if we support the taksal financially, as everything needs resources!

  4. I think the only solution is that every application is read by jathabandis (including the Taksaal) and then rated for it's transalations too. Significant errors could be made to be amended by the provider who is trying to do a honest seva. There are enough Singhs in all the Jathabandis to all take serveral angs each and get this done in no time. The could almost view it as a Sehaj Paath.

These apps are going to be read by millions so it's better the Gyanis and Granthis proof read them rather than ignore them.

  5. Bros/Sisters perhaps the reason why people are not signing the petition is because it is inaccurate and out of date:

    It reads:

'Codemn India for hanging Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana on 31st March 2012 at 9 am in Patiala Punjab jail. Bhai Bhai Balwant Singh refuses to plea for clemency from the killers of the Sikh Nation. There has been no justice for the Sikh Genocide in 1984 by the Indian State. Bhai Balwant Singh has lost all faith in the Indian judiciary. India is not a democratic state has it crushes the voice of its minority citizens.'

Aside from the easy to do typos, as we all know - the date of 31 March has passed and Bhai Sahib has not been hanged. This makes the petition inaccurate and so will make us look like a bit foolish if it lead to a discussion in Parliament.

I dont mean to undermine the seva done by the individual who started the petition but just outline how we have to be much sharper and perhaps not rush such things. Can I suggest that whoever started it stops this petiton and starts a new one with a changed phrasology- rather than someone else start a new one - as that will make us look dis-united.

I sincerely apologise to anyone who may be offended by my post.

Is there anyway the existing petition can me amended or the existing signatures added to the new petition you suggest? Or is the only option to start a new petition all over again? If it's pointless continuing with the current petition due to it being inaccurate and out of date as you say, then we may as well save our energy, as you suggest!

    Well spotted!

  6. Very inspiring event. My heart goes out to the boy in that incident!

We should have more surgeries in Gurdwares for the boys, like the boy in your account above, to attend and get support, whenever they need it!

    You did well!

  7. Wjkk wjkf, i teach a reality based art, we do a lot os scenario yraining under pressure situations. You

Need to understand what happens to your body when adrenalised, a lot of the fine motor skills go out of the window under

Pressure, we teach how to deal with verbal aggresion, simple techniques that can be retained under pressure, multiple attackers, knife defence etc email me on fastcombatives@hotmail.co.uk for more info. Wjkk wjkf.

Sounds good Shastar Man, can you give us any more information (not personal) about yourself. Like:

    Are you Niddar?

Do you support Nidday, or have you taken Amrit from the Panj Piyare instead?

It's important to know these things if you post on Sikh Site. Any ideas of the arts you use, or the name of the arts you use would be useful.

  8. Naveen Jain, Ashok Mohanty and Bimal Mallick -- three of his classmates -- also boycotted the examination, showing solidarity with Harwinder.

It's people like this that make me have real hope for the future! I hope that they are blessed with a great life and God fulfils all their wishes for the future!

When people say, "there's good and bad in everyone" and "Good in all religions when followed properly", well these people are examples of 'Good'!

  9. If any of the teachers or principals or students are Asian and understand either Punjabi or Hindi, then please play them this video to them or email them this link (they only need to listen to the first half of this track or so, unless they're scared to learn the truth about history!!!)

  10. He was a young person and full of josh and passion about an issue affecting his people. I think we can take it easy on him for speaking coarsely in such a high-pressure environment. Had he been a 40 year old Giani and still used the same language then we'd have reason for concern but not now in my opinion.

I actually think after watching this video that 10th Regiment's post from a few days ago about Bhai Jaspal Singh being a target was even more accurate. The police saw Bhai Sahib being vocal and they probably shot the lad to scare his co-protestors from taking things further.

True! As we know, the bullet and hanging is only reserved for Sikhs in India !

  11. In fact, all the cyber kharkoos on this board would puke out everything they know in front of Punjab police even before they were handcuffed :lol2:

Mehtab Singh, your post above, and gsinghysingh's post, also attached to you post above, is probably right. I find these statements like yours, and gsinghysingh's post, are the best, because they show that you truly believe that the Punjab Police is a brutal Police force which abuses it's powers, and unfair advantage, to carry out some serious human rights violations on innocent people! Saying people are scared to speak up for human rights against a murdering cowardly Punjab Police force which only fights when it out numbers Singhs, is the most honest acknowledgement of the Punjab Police's murderous ways! Well done to you both!

By the way, where did you get gsinghysingh's post from, the one in your post above, I can't find it on any thread?

  12. No Singh, its not just you so don't apologize :)

Singh, if you have put this video up for the right reasons i.e. to keep brave Shaheed Jaspal Singh Ji's memory alive in our hearts and minds, then I too sincerely apologise.

All I am saying is, the one thing we know for sure, is that it was a very very serious injustice to shoot this very brave and very educated young Sikh for simply speaking the truth!

  13. Thousands haven't been killed, millions have been killed a whole generation. One life is precious enough no one can put a price on it and these Indian Politics giving Rs 1.75 lakh as compensation is disgusting, millions of Sikhs died.

These Indian Politics are belittling the lifes of millions with money that were killed is disgusting, we need to wake up the Kaum, the Sikhs are treated Second class in India like Sant Bhindrawale said, but the Sad part is we are getting treated worse then second class each second, each week, each month and each year.

Sorry if I understated the number of innocent Sikhs killed in Indian.

    My mistake, forgive me!

  14. For some people this is a stepping stone to move on to Kirtan (Immortal Productions do only state the truth in their Albums, even if they do use more than the harmonium (Vaja) and tabal in their songs.

Does anybody know when the Harmonium was introduced to Sikhi? and when it took precedent over all other instuments? Why has Sikhi embraced the Harmonium (vaja) so much? Did the 10 Gurus play Harmonium (vaja).

Any historical facts would be good on the Harmonium (vaja). ie when invented, who brought it to india and when they brought it to india etc etc..?

Another way of looking at it is which instruments should or should not be used in Kirtan from the list below:

    Harmonium (vaja)?

    Tabla?

    Tanti Saaj?

    Joree?

    Voilin?

    Flute?

    Electric Organ?

    Guitar?

    Electric Guitar?

    dholki?

    dhol?

    chimtia?

    saxiphone?

    trumpet?

    convetional drums?

    a mixer?

    an ochestra?

What do you think is within bounds or out of bounds for 1) Kiran 2) Religous Panthic Songs.

  15. Isn't life wierd?

The very people who say all these innocent youth were killed under Beant's reign are having the very person who stopped Beant from killing even more handed!!

Totally agree that the families of the thousands and thousands and thousands of other innocent youth who were killed, and thousands and thousands women and girls who were raped, should also get justice!

  16. We Sikhs are still standing at the 9,000 mark for these signatures, we still need over 90,000 signatures to reach the 100,000 signatures we need to have this discussed in the British Parliament.

Are we just pretending. Are we just all talk without any action, not even the action to sign an e-petition, which only takes a couple of minutes to fill in and costs us nothing whatsoever!

    What are we up to?

  17. Like Kaljugi said, it's good that you are at least looking into this rather than just putting a pair of sissors to your hair. Also, like the previous poster said it's about how God made you (and there's are no fault's in God's plan and creation, which you are a part of).
