  1. I was actually researching the baby naming ceremony and came across this: Taken from the OFFICIAL Sikh Rehat Maryada (THE CODE OF SIKH CONDUCT AND CONVENTIONS) published on the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee website: " k. Persons professing faiths other than the Sikh faith cannot be joined in wedlock by the Anand Karaj ceremony. " Source: http://www.sgpc.net/rehat_maryada/section_four_chap_eleven.html
  2. This may be of help: http://www.citysikhs.org.uk/2013/03/ethical-finance-a-sikh-perspective-part-3/ Ethical investing - a Sikh perspective.
  3. Exactly -they lost it for the Sher party by splitting the vote. That was an example of political naivety in the extreme. Not only did the Sanghat party end up with a negligible result, they now have absolutely no voice for the next 3 years. What they should've done (IMHO) is worked to resolve their differences within the party. I think that and the decision to take Sohi to court, were the main blunders. Lessons learned I guess. I for one cannot wait for the day when our regional differences are completely banished from the running of the Gurdwara and we learn to show more unity as a single people. I know this makes me sound naive but we are supposed to be a brotherhood.
  4. I have a lot of respect for the work Khalsa Aid do and am in total agreement with this but given that Sher lost by such a small margin, don't you think this is too little too late? With respect, this pledge of support should have gone out weeks ago.
  5. In an ideal world, the people running the Gurdwara would simply be the most qualified. Age shouldn't matter. There are plenty of "older generation" men and women who can do this job.
  6. I totally appreciate where you're coming from but unfortunately disagree with the first part of your approach. Before I go on, I just want to say, the second part (i.e. setting up action groups) is a totally valid idea to me. However, to not vote is a political action in itself and actually, what you end up doing is giving these people free reign to do whatever they wish. With respect, let's be a little more realistic. You have to work within the system to change the system and it won't be easy!
