  1. Thank you veer Valjinder Sing for all the updates - yes I agree this is severe hypokalemia and urgent intervention is now needed - Badal or his rep should at least put up a pretence of negotiations at this point to save this very precious life.
  2. Its a shame that in the world's largest 'democracy' - someone has to starve himself to death to get people who completed their sentences (regardless of felony committed) released. Talk about this story to all your non sikh friends/ acquaintances at workplace / school to raise awareness of the extremely biased Indian Judicial System.
  3. Its a deity if your relation is all about mehar and based on pure emotion wherein most of the time you are imploring guru to fulfil your wishes. Its a guru (literally - dispeller of darkness) - if you study it , contemplate (sabsai upar gur shabad beechar) on it and try to incorporate the teachings in your day to day lives. Share your thoughts !
  4. Not going to read anyting until I finish studying SGGS !
  5. Veer mohkam singh None of the Gurus , starting with Guru Nanak Dev ji used last name - and also none of our shaheeds / great gursikhs - baba budha, bhai satidas , bhai matidas , baba bidhichand etc, and after amrit sanchaar - bohta singh, garja singh, mehtab singh, sukha singh etc - you get my point. Even in recent times people who took up arms against Indian tyranny didnt use castist names .... So what right do we have to use caste based last names ? Mehtab singh ji - thanks for the suggestion , added lines pertaining to fidelity Singhbj singh - corrected - thanks for the suggestion Can we make this is a sticky and encourage others to post more tuks ?

  7. Tirath (pilgrimages) as per gurmat Naam and Contemplation of Guru's word is the only tirath we need ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਵਣ ਜਾਉ ਤੀਰਥੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ॥ tirath naavan jaa-o tirath naam hai. Why should I bathe at sacred shrines of pilgrimage? The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is the sacred shrine of pilgrimage. ਤੀਰਥੁ ਸਬਦ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਹੈ ॥ tirath sabad beechaar antar gi-aan hai. My sacred shrine of pilgrimage is spiritual wisdom within, and contemplation on the Word of the Shabad. If you are true and pure there is no cleansing/bathing required - ਸਾਚਿ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਕਿਆ ਮਲੁ ਧੋਈਐ ॥ saach na laagai mail ki-aa mal Dho-ee-ai. Filth does not stick to the true ones; what filth do they have to wash off? Wandering and bathing does not get us close to lord - ਜੋਗੁ ਨ ਦੇਸਿ ਦਿਸੰਤਰਿ ਭਵਿਐ ਜੋਗੁ ਨ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਈਐ ॥ jog na days disantar bhavi-ai jog na tirath naa-ee-ai. Yoga is not wandering through foreign lands; Yoga is not bathing at sacred shrines of pilgrimage. ਅੰਜਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨਿ ਰਹੀਐ ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਇਵ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੨॥ anjan maahi niranjan rahee-ai jog jugat iv paa-ee-ai. ||2|| Remaining unblemished in the midst of the filth of the world - this is the way to attain Yoga. ||2|| Says Namdev, once he realized Naam , he understood futility of Tiraths and empty rituals such as ekadeshi brat - ਰਾਮ ਸੰਗਿ ਨਾਮਦੇਵ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਤਗਿਆ ਆਈ ॥ raam sang naamdayv jan ka-o partagi-aa aa-ee. With the Lord, servant Naam Dayv has come to have faith. ਏਕਾਦਸੀ ਬ੍ਰਤੁ ਰਹੈ ਕਾਹੇ ਕਉ ਤੀਰਥ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ aykaadasee barat rahai kaahay ka-o tirath jaa-eeN. ||1|| I have stopped fasting on the eleventh day of each month; why should I bother to go on pilgrimages to sacred shrines? ||1||
  8. I doubt it in Gurus times anything was celebrated with pomp and show .... Gurus told us to reamin eqaunimous through thick and thin "Jo Nar Dukh Mein Dukh Nahi Maane | Kaanchan Maati Jaane || " and "Harakh Sog te Rahe Nyara" The whole divali being bandi chor divas was a mahant concoction ..... and given our hindu roots it was too difficult to not celebrate this festival.
  9. Bhai Gurdass Ji is saying: JUST like on Diwali Night people light lamps,..BUT the LIGHT of these Lamps has NO LONG LIFE ( short period),..the light is a short term DIKHAWA only,...The NIGHT SKY is full of Big and small stars....BUT ONLY till DAWN of Day... FLOWERS Bloom....but only until they are plucked by the gardners...they never keep joined to the plant for long...Pilgrims are seen going to the TEERATHS...BUT they DONT stay there...only short visits... The CASTLES formed by Clouds in the SKY are Visisble...but they dont have any substance or solid form... THROUGH the SHABAD of the GURBANI the GURMUKHS realise the "shortlived" time of this WORLD..and thus learns the value of this HUMAN BIRTH and its resultant union with Timeless WAHEGURU. When we take the SHABAD in its ENTIREITY... we can see that the meaning of the First Line about Diwali is NOT AT ALL about lighting Diwas and Lamps to "celebrate diwali"...IT is just an ALANGKAAR - metaphor to show us how SHORTLIVED such lamps and their lighting is. Veer NeoSingh Jee why show royalty on just one day ?
  10. Today you will see the following vaar by Bhai Gurdas jee being sung in gurdwaras - dIvwlI dI rwiq dIvy bwlIAin] Lamps are lighted in the night of divali festival. qwry jwiq snwiq AMbir BwlIAin] Stars of different variety appear in the sky. PulW dI bwgwiq cuix cuix cwlIAin] In the gardens the flowers are there which are selectively plucked. qIriQ jwqI jwiq nYx inhwlIAin] The pilgrims going to pilgrimage centres are also seen. hir cMdaurI Jwiq vswie aucwlIAin] The imaginary habitats have been seen coming into being and vanishing. gurmuiK suK Pl dwiq sbid smHwlIAin ]6] All these are momentary, but the Gurmukhs with the help of the Word nourish the gift of the pleasure fruit.(6) The last line says it all ... Bhai sahib is asserting futility of these rituals - whereas our raagis sing as though Guru Sahib (most people dont know its bhai Guradaas to begin with) is encouraging sikhs to light deevas on Deevali...... Jahan Gyan Tahan Dharam Hai | Jahann Jhooth Tahan Paap || Also we call it Bandi Chor divas , which is also a myth but thats whole another topic.
  11. Gist is if you don't take processed calories and animal foods - its next to impossible to gain any weight.
  12. Ghal Kamaye Kich Hathon Dei | Nanak Rah Pachaney Sey || One who earns with honest means and gives part of it to the needy , only has recognized the true way sayeth Nanak. Sharing is a big part of sikh philosophy, however we should be prudent in choosing who is worthy of our chartiable gifts - Akli par ke boojheye Akli keeje Daan || Exercise your wisdom in reading and in charity. (Usually Daan as per hindu mat was only for brahmins who were already well fed ) Sey Nar Kya Puraan sun Keena | Ann Pachati Bhagat Na Upaji Bhookhei Daan Na Deena || What has one gained by listening to puranas if he has not immersed himself in unwavering worship and has not given food to the hungry. Here puranas are symbolic of all religious scriptures (including SGGS) ... the gist is if one does his nitnem but turns his head away when he sees needy/hungry people , all of his recitations are futile. If sangat knows more tuks on this topic please share.
  13. (i) No serious discussions , everybody just wants to be proven right - petty ego gratification , when whole point of sikh spirtiuality is to go beyond your haume (ii) Very sloppy censoring on parts of MODS, today Ising1699 made some good points on Ramchander thread without being desrespectful or personal - which were all removed (again very unsikh - Guru Teg Bahadur sacrificed his life for freedom of expression ), In the end SS will become a group of 'sikhs' with a very narrow view of sikhism that confirms their tunnel vision .
  14. Mere Bhravo , You guys are getting too much worked up over nothing and giving in to Krodh I have tremendously benefited from my new lifestyle - vegan food (almost raw), deeper breathing and cold showers/baths ... and wanted to share it with others , but seems like it offends people here no end Dalbir singh , we must have been brothers in previous lives , once again I pretty strongly agree with you on Chavar thread , however why limit yourself to studies when you can conduct this experiment on yourself (hint cold water is not an acid ) Your body will speak loud and clear - if you dont feel awesome dont do it http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17993252 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2284402/Cold-showers-kill-winter-bugs-icy-jabs-tackle-prostate-cancer-Why-feeling-chilly-GOOD-health.html http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zHOYMMvUAA HSD2 Ji ... the temperature in punajb during Nov - Feb drops down to 2-3 celsius during night , you can imagine what river waters will feel like in amrit vela ? Before you talk out of your neck , I have first hand experience ...its COLDER than my cold baths in the tub I thought I'd ignore your childish name calling , but since I am closing my account here , I thought its good to clear this one Also I am a left wing Fanatic / Nazi not right , I am ultra liberal
  15. Veer / Bhain HSD2 thanks for showering your love on me in multiple threads .... I apologize if I hurt you over something , I will stop posting , bas hun tusi Raaji ? When you have spiritual elation , you want to share it with the world ....but I never knew I would end up offending high avashta gursikhs like yourself - this Moorakh posted in the spirit of "Jab Lag Duniya Rahiye | Nanank kuch suniye Kuch Kahiye " Bhul chook maaf , but on a more serious note this much hate is not good for your spiritual development - petty ego battles lead us no where - not as me being "houlier than thou" but I posted some gurbani tuks to corroborate my point, shouldn't you be doing the same to prove yours (which is "why are you telling us" :blink2: ) "Vaad Vivaad Kahu seo na Keejai | Rasna Ram Rasayan Peejai || " And " Manda kise na akhiye Parh Akhar eho Bhujiye | Moorkhai sang na loozhiye " PS : I am closing my SS account , the forum comes across as very immature and not at all about learning / advancement - and I am making more enemies than friends here ( Mere har preetam ki koi baat sunaave | so bhayi so mera meet )
  16. Mere Veer/Bahan Taran he might be holy by your standards but Gurbani says otherwise - I will take Bhagat Namdev and Guru Nanak's take over your and GPS's personal opinions Bhagat Namdev - Pande tumra Ramchand So Bhi Avat Dekhya Tha | Ravan Seti Sarvar hoyi Ghar ki Pat gavayi thi || (p 874) Guru Nanak - Dehdis Andhle Mund Kataya Raavan Mar Kya Bada Bhaya || Also I think Ram's act of kicking out his innocent wife - just to placate his subjects was a despicable one , he set a very bad precedent for how women should be treated if they are abducted. Also Lachman cut off Saroopnakha's nose just because she wanted to have a realtionship with him , Isn't it understandable on Ravan's part to seek revenge as her brother ? Why did only Sita had to go through Agni Parkisha ? Also Gurbani is not universally critical to hindy mythological figures - Dhurv and Prahlad are extolled throughout , while Shiva, Krishna and Rama are not .
  17. Veer Singh559 main eh kado kahya kee sab kuj chad ke paharan noo bhaj jayie ? How will we help send a kid to school if we are a monk living in wilderness Vich Duniaa sev Kamaiae | Ta Dargah Baisan Payeey || I mean to say that we stay detached / dispassionate in this world - I know you are a scholar of SGGS (which is my true guru in that I use its teachings to guide my day to day life) so did you miss these lines ? "Meri Meri Karte Janam Gaya" This birth is lost saying this is mine or that is mine Jo Nar Dukh Main Dukh Nahi Maane | Kaanchan Maati Jaane || The man who does not grieve in Grief and considers gold as dust Kanik Manik Gaj Motiyan Laalan | Neh Naah Nahi || With Gold, gems, Elephants(big cars in modern times) I have no attachment Baki bhul chook maaf par niki jehi gal te krodh de vas vich ho jana theek nahi - shows that your connection with your inner Guru is not very strong.
  18. As I grow more and more spiritual , I have started to question the use of locks ? Our prized possessions should not be jewellery , iphones, laptops , clothes or other 'valuables' . They should be things like quality time spent with near and dear ones , altruistic acts - getting a child into school / volunteering for older folks etc and especially meditation - enjoying gurmat sangeet , studying SGGS etc. Also unloading your material stuff is a key to happiness , the less we have the lighter we feel and clearer we think.
  19. OK confusion cleared as per dr Harnam singh in his california seminar speech , Bachitar Natak is just a naatak with all characters, places and events being imaginary so Sikhs are NOT descendants of Luv Kush or Ram Chander Also Ram Chander , Krishna are shown to be not important in SGGS by Guru Nanak devji in Ravan Mar Kya Vada Bhaya shabad, Andhlai dehsir moond mundaya, Ravan maar kya wada bhaya (SGGS p.350) (Ten-headed foolish Ravana had his heads Chopped off. What greatness was there in killing him?) Jia upaye jugat hath kini Kali maar kya wada bhaya (SGGS p.350) (…..Lord Krishna killed the Black Snake. What sort of bravery it was ?) Naal kutumb sath vardata Brahma bhalan Srisht gaya. (SGGS p.350) (Brahama, the creator, went into the tube in search of his own creator but found no exit). Agai ant na paiyo ta ka Kans Chhed kya wada Bhaya (SGGS p.350) (……….What bravery was it in killing Kansa?) Ratan upaye dharaai khir mathya Hore bhaklaye ji asin kiya (SGGS p.350) The ocean was churned and jewels taken out Over which a great feud had occurred. If Maha Harnam Singh was Ramchander in previous life I was Elvis Presley
  20. Since we consider Guru Gobind singh as our father and he descended from sodhis who in turn descended from Luv / Kush (not exactly sure which one ) , we are all descendants of Ram Chander ?
  21. Hopefully this wont deteriorate into an ego battle - since English is not my first language probably I ended up not conveying myself correctly , I meant I won't do an experiement like eating beef However I am not opposed to salugtering cows to feed to starving kids ..if ofcourse we have nothing else to feed them As you know by now I am a hardcore vegan and animal rights activist I have swam in ontario lakes in early mornings and some of them are barely above freezing temp , so a little colder than water in your tub that will come out of the tap . Also I didnt bring sikhi into question , its just a healthier practice - and anyways human bodies are way stronger than we take them to be - we just need to start getting out of our comfort zone a little . People can gradually start lowering the temperature until they have conditioned their brown cells. http://www.normalbreathing.com/l-cold-shower.php
