  1. Southall is no longer a ghetto, it's become a slum. As someone whose family are also from Southall, most Sikhs given half the chance would not want to live in Southall. The only people that Southall attracts are freshies. You have not really put Southall down by calling it a ghetto. Have talked you about the homeless, the prostitution or the drug addiction there is in Southall these days?
  2. These are my observations, I can be completely wrong but these are my findings: I think that for whatever reason Jagsaw's life in Canada did not work out for him, so now he finds himself back in the UK. Since he has moved back to the UK, he needs reasons to justify to himself that he has made the right decision and if that means putting down Sikhs in Surrey then he will do it. Unfortunately these threads are dominated by UK Sikhs and there are not enough Sikhs from Canada other than ghettosikh give their particular point of view.
  3. Star Striker People who have built businesses and lose businesses can rebuild again in new environments because they retain knowledge, cultural values and therefore transfer skills into their new environments. What cultural values and retained skills do you think Somalis brought with them. They have no base to begin with, do you think the work ethic exists in their culture like other culture? They are just tribals that have been transplanted from a very primitive environment into one that is far more advanced one. You have an issue with Somalis, I'd suggest that you bring it up with the UK government. If you live in West London area, you can also bring it up with the rich Asians (a few of them who were supposedly penniless from East Africa) who have allowed Southall to go to the dogs by buying rows of houses, colluding with the local councils to put these houses through housing associations and moved in a lot of these Somalis whilst they themselves profited have buggered off out of Southall and move into leafier suburbs. Immigration is big business and a lot of other vested interests profit from it also, councils also benefit from it because a bigger population in your borough means that you get more funding from the government. I do not disagree that the welfare culture is a problem and people can become dependent on it but what do you suggest is done about it?
  4. Afghan Sikhs are traders, they are like East African Sikhs who moved to the UK, 40+ years ago. For them it was a much easier transition to leave their market stalls to come to market stalls and shops in the UK. They have the business know how of how to set up a business, how to get suppliers, how to help another Afghan Sikh and give them a leg up. They managed to see the opportunity with the Polish community to open up the Polski Skleps and build up the network infrastructures suppliers from Poland/Germany. The balkans people are again a much more sophisticated people then the tribal Somalis. They had agriculture, urban society. They had a reasonable education system which produced doctors, engineers etc. Again it is not hard for them to make the transition.
  5. We are agrarian but we have come from a Punjabi civilisation that goes back millenia, our society is quite complex and sophisticated, much more sophisticated then the Somalis.
  6. Sorry guys, just trying to inject a bit of light hearted humour. Somalis are mainly refugees they are not economic migrants because of the civil strife in their country after their country got taken over by warlords. By nature they are a tribal people and when you place them into an alien environment like the UK, they are not going to be adapt as quickly as a Pole or a Chinese person since these people have some assemblance of a civilisation behind them. If you come from a society that had an agrarian society then moved into an urban/mercantile society with a rich history/culture where you have a system where you understand what money is and what you need to get to move forward. You come from a society that has the necessary complexity to be able to move into another society that also has similar complexities. Somalia is not a sophisticated society. I know that in 1991, the US were somehow involved in Somalia (I think there was a film called Black Hawk Down based on it). You will find Somalis all over the place, they are in Europe, US, Canada etc, we are not the only country to take them in.
  7. They helped us win 2 gold medals at London 2012 in the middle/long distance events which has not been done since the legendary Seb Coe/Steve Cram/Steve Ovette days. They also advertised to the wonders of Quorn mince, and the term "Practice, protein, practice, protein" as well as the Mobot.
  8. Damn those Romanians, coming over and taking our Polish peoples jobs.
  9. You have Irish travellers, English Romany Gypsies, and the Romany folk from Eastern Europe. Romany originate from India. They are professional beggars, just like they have professional beggars in India.
  10. One part of Surrey that has trailer park trash I believe (in Whalley). Has anyone watched "The Trailer Park Boys", it's a Canadian comedy around the drug dealing exploits of some Trailer Park Boys and they live in Nova Scotia (opposite end of Canada)
  11. There has been no mention how big this regiment would be. No mention either of how many would be front line and how many would be support. It may be a good thing for more Sikhs in the army as it give a big kick up the backside, we are too soft. I have trained with army people in jujitsu and they are tough physically and mentally. I am just wondering if the current generation of Sikhs are up to it.
  12. "He said: There arent that many Sikhs in the Army. A regiment needs a bit more. There needs to be some enticement to go, but with all the defence cuts, the Army may not look that tempting." The bit I am concerned is about defence cuts. I do not understand how organisations work. On one hand the army struggles with depleting resources and on the other hand they suddenly find resources to fund a new regiment. The army pays very poorly and I do not think it will entice enough British born Sikhs. The only way you could do it is they offered training courses and skills for the post army career. There are many telecoms engineers who come from an army background. In the U.S. a lot of CEOs have army background (a lot of them complete MBAs). The only way in my opinion that Sikh regiment can be raised is if there recruitment from Punjab. There would be no shortage of eager recruits and they would suddenly start to grow their kesh.
  13. Hammertime The problem with Southall is the perception. Many people come from all over to do their shopping so what you see are outsiders coming in. You need to see Southall outside shopping hours for a more accurate reflection. The only moghulisation you see is the proliferation on halal fried chicken places. There aren't many in Southall but I was quite surprised when I visited a few pubs when I used to drink. But you find more in the surrounding areas: Hayes, Yeading, Heston, Norwood Green, Cranford.
  14. Plenty of white people living in and around Southall, you need to know where to look.
  15. Starstriker Showbiz people are not people of integrity, they are for some reason put on a pedestals by the general public. They spend all their time pretending and performing, they themselves forget what is real and what is not.
  16. "Sikh murders, shootings, home invasions, drugs, gangs have, over the last decade as a whole, been on Columbian levels in terms of violence. In contrast, UK Muslims of the same thing have been on the level of a small peaceful country town in Olkaholma. Let me tell you something about Surrey for example. In Surrey, there have even been cases of some of our old bajurgs been violently mugged on the streets at nights by our own apnian kurian high on meths and/or heroin. " Bajurgs in the UK have been violently mugged as well by junkies as well, what's the difference? The heroin drug trade is dominated by Pakistanis and there is an epidemic of girls being drugged and groomed up and down the country by this same community. Calling muslim criminality in terrorism, drugs, grooming and prostitution as a peaceful town in Oklahoma even though it is widespread throughout the whole UK with compared to Sikh crime in one city in the Greater Vancouver area which sits in the small corner of B.C. as Columbia is a big exaggeration.
  17. Talking of shorter bladed weapons, the gurkhas are known for fighting with khukri knife. They also killed a lot of Japanese during WW2. Does anyone know if there is a fighting style relating to the Gurkhas?
  18. In the previous election there was talk about having electoral reform by changing from the first past the post system to a proportional representation system. Any views on this, would it be a system that would benefit Sikhs?
  19. Jagsaw I would dispute that survey, would be interesting to see the sample size and what their particular agenda is, that is not my experience.Nor is that necessarily the experience of a lot of other Sikhs who reside in Canada. I am aware of the reputation of Surrey amongst Canadians but it Surrey is a big place and it is quite sprawly. Some of these "reputations" are built on perception. It's like saying all folk in Norfolk have webbed feet and hands. There are some thing Canadian Sikhs do that I personally find irritating but they also do some things much better than UK Sikhs. You do have a gripe against Canadian Sikhs for some reason though. But I feel this thread is gone off a big tangent. The cricket match is over, India won Pakistan lost. India has since beaten South Africa (who I would like to see win the World Cup), Pakistan has been defeated by the West Indies.

  21. I found that Sikhs are by and large quite respected in Canada. Surrey is a large in itself of almost half million people so you cannot really claim that the whole of Surrey as a ghetto. The wider white Canadian community is quite aware of Sikhs and our traditions in a way that the Brits are not. Being greeted with Sat Sri Akal by a white cashier or being told by Security that your "Kara" may need to be taken off when going through metal detectors. A white salesman would approach a Sikh customer before even going to a white customer because he knows who has the money. That would not happen in the UK. All the recent hoo-ha in Canada at the moment is being created by muslims, whether it is the Ottawa shootings or the Calgary-ISIS connections or whether it is the bomb suspects in Toronto or grooming incidents in Quebec.
  22. ASKhalsa In terms of the refugees and asylum seekers in Hounslow and Southall, I put a lot a lot of blame on our own people's greed. They buy up houses and rent them out to housing associations. Immigration is big business, what is the odds that all the big millionaire business owners on Southall Broadway have snapped up a lot of the properties, rented them out whilst they themselves have moved out to Gerrards Cross, Chiswick etc. I have a good friend who lives in Hayes and rented his house out to a Somali family through a housing association. I questioned him on this and he did not care because he was making money. Then a couple of years later he is hovering around the Slough grammar school system (which is a lot of Southall, Hayes,Houslow lot do) because there are too many Somalis and other refugee types in the West London schooling system which means the education standards are in decline. This creates resentment amongst locals in Slough because they cannot get into their own local schools (grammar schools) which means they look further afield. There is a knock on effect. A lot of people complain about there being too many Somalis in Southall but the fault is largely by our own people
  23. There is a particular hypocrisy among the left. They all harp on about diversity, yet the majority of them live in the white middle class areas. In terms of the young, these lot get indoctrinated in the universities, particularly if they are studying the social sciences. These types move to London for work because it is "vibrant" and "diverse" and "multicultural" , however when these lot get married and settle down, they move out to the white middle class areas.
  24. ASKhalsa I feel that UKIP will definitely make an impact in this year's election. They will take the white middle class vote away from the tories and the white working class labour vote. At the moment they look like a one topic party which is anti-EU anti-immigration and they would need to be more three dimensional and cover more issues than is presently seen. I do not know what their longetivity will be like as people will vote for them as a protest vote against LibLabCon. I will suspect that if their popularity grows, the main parties will begin to adopt their policies particularly if the big three begin to lose seats. I personally have no issue with immigration per se, but I do feel that there has been a huge increase in population in the last decade and a half and a lot of resources are stretched since the powers that be have not kept up with infrastructural requirements needed to cope with a larger population. My opinion is that multiculturalism works for the most part. The issue with multiculturism is that there are particular left leaning guardian/channel 4 types is hand in glove with cultural values of a particular middle eastern desert ideology that wants to impose their values on everyone else. The more farsighted elder Sikhs saw the writing on the wall 15-20 years ago. The mainstream white population and the establishment is only now beginning to notice.
