Sangat should know punjabi/gurmukhi. Not granthis/kathakars learning english.
beause sikhi is in the world and our Guru ji is Jagat Guru our parchaariks and Granthis should be able to explain to seekers of truth in that country's language or at least in English which is the most widely known . That's also why homegrown parchaariks are important.

If you read Dasmesh Pita ji's writings it is clear that he is not impressed by the actions or lack of preachings of Mohammed . At a point he mentions that the way it is practised it is the faith of shaitaans

I just wanted to make my first post here because this has been playing on my mind for a while now. I feel like Sikhi Kirtan does not have the same passion I hear from other religious musical pieces, and as a result its not inspiring young people. I feel like the popular Kirtans are easy, dull, follows Bollywood/punjabi tunes and therefore lacks originality/identity/spiritualism. I have been listening to Islamic sufi music, Christian hymns and Hindu Kirtans - which I find all sound different and beautiful in their own way. With Sufi music drawing me in the most - even Bollywood adaptations like 'Kun Faya Kun' sound beautiful.
With young people, I don't expect Kirtan to modernise, it doesn't need to. Indian Classical Music is and will always remain timeless, if played with passion, dedication and training, then you can draw in anyone no matter where you live. This is why Ravi Shankar and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan broke internal barriers.
Unfortunately most of the kirtan tunes these days sound like outdated Indian/punjabi pop music
It doesn't help that only Sikhs can play kirtans in many Gurdwaras around the world. Collaboration inspires creativity - isn't that was sikhism was about? Openness to all?
Here is a kirtan I think is nicely composed - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHJtedXR5v4
sometimes I listen to Tanti Saaz kirtan and I feel like did we ever hear true kirtan in our youth?
just a jugalbandi but still so rich :

I'm just having some trouble wrapping my head around Sikh society. As a woman, I am proud to be Sikh because it advocates for equality among the genders. However, my faith has been suffering due to societal thinking, especially here in Canada. My fiancé and I are getting married next year and we are having a lot of trouble finding a raagi jattha. Why? Because both of us (and our families) want us to walk beside each other instead of the traditional bride behind groom way for the lavaan. People are simply unwilling to do it and those that can, are crazy expensive.
Our traditions have been heavily borrowed from Hinduism but without all the fuss. We have even changed the way we think about Sikh marriage, as the bride and groom get married together to God. So then why do I have to walk behind him? To make things worse, I have heard some really sexist things from some of the raagis who explained why I must walk behind him. I am so disappointed in our people.
I guess I wanted some more opinions on this. Am I missing some pertinent information? But if anyone has more information about this or raagis who are more open minded, I'd love to hear about it!
Thank you!
Waheguru ji ka Khalsa , Waheguru ji ki Fateh ,
firstly what you are doing is throwing out sikh culture and gurmat for some supposed 'modern' and WISER ???? way , in some mistaken impression you know what Guru ji meant better than he did.
If you are happy and grateful for being a sikh on the long line of sacrificing sikhs upon whose bodies you stand then it should not be US the descendents, telling the GURU that 'we know better than you' and altering his given ways to bless you both as a Couple.
If you look at the history of the Lavaan it has ZERO to do with Vedic resams as we are dedicating ourselves to Guru ji and making Guru ji our support and centre of our lives (that is why we travel around giving respect, equidistant to the Guru , neither partner becoming a blockage to personal relationship to Guru ji) .
If your guy is walking ahead of you it is showing that he will protect and shield you from the unknown harms that could come your way in life as Guru ji has told him to do, so actually it is giving him space to show how much he cares and honours you in sharing your life with him . It is not saying you are lesser in any way so please stop listening to frankly uneducated 'modern' sikhs , as Kaurs are supposed to be supportive and ready step into the breach if life takes out the Singh and protect the future of the panth. The First Anand Karaj was when Guru Amar Das ji Married his own Daughter Bibi Bhani ji to Guru Ram Das ji , did he insist that his daughter walk in front or side by side to Guru Ram Das Ji ? No , he could have done knowing just how blessed and holy she was , daughter to a Guru, Wife of a Guru, Mother of a Guru and GRandmother of the Next Guru also . Was she treated as lesser by anyone ? No , so please leave western ideas of 'equality' and understand Sikh ideas of equality they are much deeper and more expressive then simple minded kneejerk swaps as in western thinking. Yes you are right societal thinking has got you in a tizz but it is not Sikhi but your interpretations of it via the messed up western model which fails to see beauty in the chivalry of promising to protect but sees it as a belittling of the female (how messed up is that? so daughters shouldn't look up to their dads and brothers if they look after them but should be angry) .
Guru ji commanded that his sikhs should never ask for daaj or harass the girl's family with demands if they did they are not his sikhs. The bharat was only supposed to be as big as the female's family could host without stressing them . A Sikh was never allowed to cuss out or strike women did this mean Guru ji thought of women as weak flower or was it he wanted society to change their attitude and show just as much love and respect to the girl's family as the boy's family got ? This is the equality he wanted that daughters were married into homes with these attitudes intact not the transactional attitudes that existed in societies dominated by the other faiths. Unfortunately, in your speech I have seen that crass transactional attitude with regards to the raagis , if you are serious about sikhi and doing your life the sikh way , cultivate humbleness because you are begging Guru ji to bless your future together and his Granthi and sewaks will follow Him not you . If you don't want to pay for a particular jathebandi then just get the gurdwara sewak team to do it and donate the difference to the homeless or poor.
Raagi jathe following Akal Takht maryada and Guru ji's hukham so do not expect them to answer yes to your folks strange ideas because those ideas are insulting the maryada of Anand Karaj and Guru ji Themself. They know the sikh follows the Guru not the other way around .

I reckon that there are middle aged people who complain about crusty Uncles when they are of the same age group.

it's criminal how the crusties are sidelining the youth who actually will have to deal with the outcome of their actions , The most shameful thing was the total abdication of responsibility for the welfare of farmers who got kidnapped and women that got kidnapped by police and tortured in stations and jails. I think the phrase 'ussi youth da teke nahin leha , ohna di rehaie da .'

Is this included in Dasam Bani as well?
The Hindu is full of hankhar today, blinded by it. Hankar is the beginning of the end.
Also, insulting Gurus, holy men and prophets has become a norm for Hindus, especially extremist Hindus. The amount of nindiya you see Hindus doing of holy men is alarming. The things they say about the Muslim prophet, Jesus, Mary, and our Gurus is shocking. Its twisted, perverted and sick. Even by accidently reading it you feel like you have committed 100 sins. Far too much paap is building up in that country.
I think history is soon gnna repeat itself in India, they've had a couple of decades of "freedom"
well so far China has built an outpost inside LOC and the silk road motorway project is moving forward when this completes then it will be easy for China to attack deep into India, pakistan, iran, turkey and into Europe . Modi will goad then surrender territory to China and then call for boycott of china goods whilst giving multi-million contracts to China's CCP party . Osho was right India is a nation of cowards and two faced people. This is the reward for attacking Harmandir Sahib, killing sant lok and making Gursikhs miserable - destruction by Akal Purakh.

addiction is the symptom of extreme loneliness and disconnect... self-hatred rears its head and the person annihilates themselves through the weapon of choice , they are starved of connection, understanding and love . Your cousins really had the dregs as mothers I would have kicked out the Mums and kept the daughters because at least they had a chance of becoming worthwhile humans.

I would suggest that listening or reading Dr Vandana Shiva's work on environmental issues in India and food /water security is a must for sikhs as it cuts straight to the heart of what is detroying Punjab's fertility and health not to mention future .

important point for Indians
'Gates funds Diversity Seek (DivSeek), a global project he launched in 2015 to map the genomes and genome sequences of the peasant seed stocks held in seed banks. DivSeek and Gates Ag One are the tips of his spears, “mining” seed data to “censor” out the commons. In other words — to terminate the public’s ownership claims.''
Gates’ principal objective is to breed Green Revolution varieties engineered to respond to chemical inputs produced by Gates’ “Poison Cartel” partners: Monsanto, Bayer, Dow/DuPont, CropLife, BASF, Syngenta, Corteva, etc. In short, Gates deliberately robs the seed of its integrity and diversity, erasing evolutionary history and its links to the soil, reducing it all to a simple “code.” In this way, Gates captures our planet’s genetic diversity, rewrites it, patents its code, steals the seeds from humanity and marries them off to the chemical conglomerates.
By centralizing the Seed Banks and manipulating intellectual property laws, Gates has launched a campaign of “genetic colonialism” to rob the world’s peasants and indigenous farmers of their hard-earned seeds and knowledge.'

What’s the difference between the Sikh farmers and the luddites we had in the UK who didn’t want their mills change.
there were alot of Ludditues who lost their homes but the government decision saved millions of jobs and improve the economy overall ??the luddites were protecting their individual familiy's existence and bread against the cheaper imported cotton of India and the mechanised looms . They knew that it was the loot of farmers just like themselves from elsewhere that propped up the millowners business and the millowners also were demanding their children to work the dangerous machinery . It is always the poor that get exploited to feed the rich's greed

Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh
Thank you all for reading this post. I am currently planning on proposing to my girlfriend. I am a Punjabi staying in the UK and my girlfriend is ethnically Chinese staying in the UK as well. She is very interested in Sikhi and we have discussed it many times. We have even decided that the kids will keep joora and learn bani as well. She is humble and compassionate, and reminds me of the qualities of being a good Sikh by her very nature. She does not keep her kesh, and she is learning Punjabi as well in her spare time. Essentially, she is learning slowly how to be a good Sikh, and I do not want to pressure her.
However, we have been getting alot of judgement and hate from the community, especially with all the chugli and gossiping thats been going around. I do not understand their problem - if anything, my girlfriend is a better Sikh than half of them. Anyone has any advice on how I can look past all this hate and negativity? We are not doing anything wrong
maybe it is just rubbing them up the wrong way because her being an outsider IS being a better sikh than they themselves i.e. it holds up the mirror to their faults . Don't take it the wrong way stay on your intended path and Waheguru ji will help you , don't let naysayers rob your family of peace of mind . I myself have been along your path so know it can get tough ignoring the backbiting but you have to to suceed, they gave us months and we just had our silver wedding anniversary , four kids all brought up in sikhi , it's doable just be a strong and communicative couple . Stay in chardikala

This deserves a closer look in its viability as a workable policy instead of a vague feel-good statement designed to absolve certain groups of responsibility for their ineptitude.
I've been hearing it bandied around as an excuse for our failures since I was a kid. I'll respond to this theory and why I think it's flawed when I have the time.
well what does it take to be a khalsa ? rehit, study of all granths and faiths but full faith in our own, learn as many languages and cultures as possible , be educated and aware of the world, ecologically conscious and protective of the voiceless environment, learn herbal and ayurvedic medicine , shastar vidhiya, learn to play an instrument to accompany kirtan (learn raag) , learn rajniti of others and be strategic thinkers and that is a basic skill set . If we had huge groups of such people , how could we not suceed?
if people are worried about a country on principles of halemi raj rather than capitalistic/communistic mess that has tortured the planet maybe they don't realise just how they would be swapping uncertainty for the kknowledge that your community would be working to make sure of deg teg fateh , their children would have education as a right and of a quality that would include character trait development that will create positive and industrious people for the future.
Alcohol and drugs habituation has been the down fall of our panth time and again , we should stick to our Guru's model this time . People will be grateful for freedom from violence , arguments, accidents and infidelities/ rapes caused by alcohol/drug consumption , the world is going to need leaders with different thinking to the neoliberals/communists why not try it before knocking it ? Just as we don't let outsiders tell us how we have to change Guru Maryada for humans' weaknesses why would we knock down Guru ji's way ?

We don't need Khalistan, then. Building up a country's infrastructure using trade, secular sciences, and miri principles is manmati materialism. Let's retreat to a cave, and pray a homeland into existence, or continue to exist under India's benevolent rule.
Guru ji has sent his children out across the face of this planet and being his children we have spread his good image and effects on local communities , if we can get our good people to join the panth and encourage the bad to rethink and recommit or go , net result will always be positive . Look at the current farmer's protest although it is affecting all faiths it is only Guru ji's chardikala spirit and teachings that have gotten it off the ground and into the world's eyes . We will have Khalsa Raaj but IF AND ONLY IF we become Khalsa proper and keep Guru ji's standards not our own (we are lax) it's been said many times over since 1984
