  4. Sir you are on the path of brahmins , then next you will say Only amritdhari can enter darbar hall ,Only amritdhari can read Guru Granth Sahib , Only Amritdhari can have langar at gurudwara . This is not Sikhi ,Guru Granth sahibji is not for so called "Sikhs" only .its universal thats why Guru sahib included the contribution from Hindus ,Muslim ....You ppl are doing just opposite ,you are doing beadbi of Guru Sahib .
  5. I too agree with the I .J Singh and Guruka Singh and feel those ppl who are obstructing the marriage inside Gurudwara are hypocrites with double standard . Actually i liked the top comment on Sikhnet there . Biri Nijhar · Uasin gishu secondary school eldoret Agree with the authors. How many times has one seen a so called "Sikh" boy within five minutes of marriage taken his turban off and shaved before the wedding reception or a so called "sikh" girl who has trimmed hair and pluked her eyebrows etc? If you want a strict code of conduct then it should apply to "sikhs" as well why are these ppl not obstructing such marriages ? thats the big question.
  6. Migration may have led to decline in Sikh count Sarbjit Dhaliwal Tribune News Service Chandigarh, August 26 Of all communities, Sikhs have reported maximum decline in population, according to the religion-based census data (2001-2011) released by the Centre yesterday. The decadal growth rate in Sikh population was pegged at 24.3 per cent in 1991, which fell to 18.2 per cent in 2001 and further to 8.4 per cent in 2011. The fall in 2001-2011 is 9.8 per cent when compared with the 1991-2001 census — 15.9 per cent in two decades. For Hindus, the decline in growth rate is 3.5 per cent, Muslims 4.9 per cent and Christians 7.1 per cent for 2001-2011. Aswini Nanda, demographic expert, says migration of Sikhs to countries such as the US, the UK and Canada was the main reason for fall in their population. He said a significant number of Sikhs had also moved to Italy and Australia — two new destinations for the community. Many of them are also settled in Norway and some other countries in Europe, he said. Other reasons being cited by experts include prosperity. Sikhs were reportedly more prosperous and adopted family planning schemes earlier than others. A reason for switching to smaller families may be the shrinking land holdings, which they decided not to divide further. The share of Sikhs in the country’s population has come down to 1.7 per cent in 2011 against 1.9 per cent in 2001. Their number is pegged at 2.08 crore — fourth on the population chart. The first slot goes to Hindus with 79.8 per cent proportion of the total population, Muslims with 14.2 per cent are placed at number 2 and Christians with 2.3 per cent are third. In Punjab, the Sikh population has fallen to 57.7 per cent in 2011 as compared to 59.9 per cent in 2001, while that of Hindus has grown to 38.5 per cent from 36.9 per cent. In Chandigarh, the Sikh population has come down to 13.1 per cent in 2011 from 16.1 per cent in 2001. Same is true for Delhi and Haryana. In Delhi, it fell from 4 to 3.4 per cent and from 5.5 to 4.9 per cent in Haryana. In J&K, the Sikh population stands at 1.9 per cent, in HP at 1.2 per cent, Uttarakhand at 2.3 per cent, and Rajasthan at 1.3 per cent. In almost all other states, it is varies from 0.1 per cent to 0.3 per cent.
  7. "Across India the Sikh percentage as a proportion of the total population actually declined by over 10% in the ten years between 2001 to 2011" DTF ji ,kindly explain your numbers ,how its 10% decline ?
  8. My Mom as a govt employee was involved in this census , not even a single house was left out ,they were told to visit again if any house was locked
  9. But if same 3% decline per decade trend continues then in few decades Sikhs will in minority in Punjab .Our birth rate is also lowest in country . ""Sikh emigration to places such as Canada, America and Italy (and to a smaller extent UK) from Punjab in the last decade"" you must also add Australia ,Newzeland for last decade .
  10. As per Govt of India Census 2011 released yesterday ,Sikh population in Punjab is 57 % which was 60% in 2001 census. The growth rate of population in the decade 2001-2011 was 17.7 percent. The growth rate of population of the different religious communities in the same period was as Hindus: 16.8 percent; Muslim: 24.6 percent; Christian: 15.5 percent; Sikh: 8.4 percent; Buddhist: 6.1 percent and Jain: 5.4 percent. http://www.censusindia.gov.in/2011census/C-01.html http://www.firstpost.com/india/indi...ims-2011-census-data-on-religion-2407708.html
