  2. http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/threads/nidhi-ridhi-sidhi.457/ This thread has a discussion. I think the powers just show themselves when you try to do things. Bhai Rama JI in his book says that he was able to foretell things like the weather. These powers come from Waheguru and they sort of help you on your path to further spirituality. These powers follow the people who follow God's commands of regular and devotional prayer. They are at the command - basically they are like slaves to the people who pray regularly. However you are supposed to ignore them as they will hamper the path to further spiritual success. Kabir Ji, Baba Farid Ji dhiya dhiya stories have many examples of these powers - and the bhagats actually just ignored them. Personally reading all about these stories I think has given me a deeper understanding about many things in Sikhi and generally how spirituality works. You may use these powers only if God commands you to use them. I was recently reading a part on Guru Gobind Singh Ji. http://kaur.sikhnet.com/mai-bhago-the-story-you-know-vs-the-story-youll-hear/ Notice how the events unfold in this story with Guru Ji not even once having used any of his powers.
  3. There is a sakhi on Guru Gobind Singh Ji - which at the moment I cannot find the exact details of. Basically it is about a sikh who is doing Sukhmani sahib - reading it in the darbar and Guru Gobind singh Ji asks some sikhs to go and perform kirtan. The man cannot concentrate and finish his path. He then goes and asks Guru Ji as to why he did not wait until he finishes his path and then give hukam for the kirtan to start. Guru Ji answers that he did it on purpose to show the power of using music when praying to God. The mind gets attuned better and also others can hear it. Do you are doing the right thing. Keep it up.

  5. Having the ipod playing in the background helped me because I understood the meaning of the bani. One whole day the ipod played shabads. I listened. I understood. I felt great bliss. The next day the same. Then I read about the the importance we should give to simran, especially at Amrit vela. This is when it is the easiest to concentrate. of course the mind goes off course. Surprisingly mine stayed quite focused on the first day. I had read a lot on religion. I had read a book which was deeply touching. During the day - tuks keep coming into my head. I go about my work but my concentration is on the Guru and his words and I remember sakhis and stories and alot more The first day I wake up and its night. I don't know the time. Not wanting to disturb others, I wash my face and rinse my mouth and sit down to do simran. I feel quite peaceful. During the day - tuks keep coming into my head. I go about my work but my concentration is on the Guru and his words and I remember sakhis and stories and alot more. The second day I wake up again - this time a bit lazy... I do some simran and fall asleep. Then I get woken up with a light which bumps me to awake and do my simran. So I wake up and do it. The third day I do a little bit of it and fall asleep again. This time my son shouts out loud that he can he can see something bad coming. So I wake up - wide awake... I do my simran and since its nearly 5.30 do some sukhmani sahib path as well. The fourth day I am exhausted so I sleep and forget about it. The fifth day I wake up and do it. This is when I have difficulty concentrating. My mind wanders and I bring it back again. The sixth day things are better - slightly. While doing simran however I feel tuks coming into my mind which make no sense. I wonder if this is the feeling of a holy spirit coming on? Christians believe in this. My mum used to say we believe in it as well, but I am not sure. Doing path and listening to kirtan during the day, reading katha and Gurbani will definitely help the mind remain focussed during simran. Practice makes perfect. Not missing a day will make sure you stay on track as far as the concentration is concerned. Moreover it is important to ask God deep down from the heart to support you in your simran or path.

  7. http://www.sikhworld.co.uk/page16.html This post should answer many questions on sikhism and prayers especially sukhmani.
  8. God has given us the free will to ask for anything. Some things we ask for are wise and some are unwise. In this shabad we are taught what to ask for http://www.sikhsangeet.com/pages/readshabad.php?shabad_id=3731
  9. I have never seen a female offering her seat to a male. (Females never have the time to sit down. We are on the go 24 seven. Sorry if we had no seat to offer. All seats are usually occupied by males) I have never seen a girl opening doors for a guy. (Our hands are usually loaded with coffee, biscuits and files for the guys. Sorry we only have 2 hands not 4) No girl has paid my shopping bill. (We respect the males and do not want to offend them by offering to pay their shopping bills. Sorry but we are shopping for the home 24 7 - buying milk, bread and everything else males may need when watching T.V.) Do all manners belong to men ? (It is good to see that men are well behaved. Isn't the planet earth truly blessed unlike mars and Jupiter) Love this thread.
  10. I remember to a sant ji of a different religion giving a discourse about not to use makeup and lipstick in particular. The main reason for that was that lipstick is manufactured using the dead parts of some animals. So was makeup. so he recommended that you can use besan instead to clear up your face. Praying to God with dead animals parts smeared upon your face was likely to cause prayers not get heard.
  11. Waheguru is present in each one of us. We never know how he is going to give darshan to us. I heard this story from a girl. There was a lady who used to do akhand path and a lot of seva. Then one day when she was serving everybody langar, a Mangta in dirty clothes in. she got really annoyed and refused to serve him langar. She chased him out, and went about her work. Then a minute later she changed her mind and came to look for him. she asked everyone where he was. No one else had seen him. The lady broke down in tears and went to her room and cried her heart out. God himself had come to her and she had refused to serve him langar!!! Similarly Bhai kanaeya on the battle field kept giving water to the enemies and making them strong again. When a report went to Guru Ji, Bhai Kanaeya apologised and said that what am I supposed to do - I keep seeing you in everyone Guru Ji. I cannot tell the difference between friend and foe. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhai_Kanhaiya
  12. Guruji gives his darshan in order to communicate an important message. In all the darshan cases, there has been some sort of test to pass as well. I was recently reading a book In search of the True Guru by Bhai Rama Singh Ji and he was given darshan after passing a test. He was commanded to take amrit and become a Sikh. My Nana ji's father in India was very religious and used to visit the river everyday and do isnaan and path. Every night he related the sakhis of Guruji's to all children and adults alike. One day he had the darshan of Guru Ji. Guru Ji however told him not to tell anyone. Guru Ji was going to give him a darshan again. He was so excited that he could not control himself. He told everyone and He never had darshan again. Bhagat dhana Ji was given darshan after refusing to eat food which he offered to his saligram. This was the stone which he was given by the pandit when he kept asking him about God. The pandit however did not get darshan. Bhagat Dhana had to plead with God to give him darshan as well.
  13. There is a similar story about the Makindu Guradwara in Kenya. There was an African who had never seen Guru Gobind SIngh Ji. He used to go to sleep on a certain place. Then he would get woken up by the Guru who would be on a horse. Guru Ji was doing a parkarma of the place with his army. When people showed the man pictures, he immediately recognised Guru Gobind Singh Ji. A Guradwara was built on that place. The Guradwara has now expanded to become so big almost like a hotel. People from all religions have langar there before proceeding to Mombasa.
  14. Thank you for the links. I now see the dassan das in a new light. I previously knew a lady who was the mother of a former classmate. She was a follower of Dassan das. They have odd beliefs I would say. She had a bath like fie times a day just to go and do the jot. She claimed that she was nearly dying and very ill and that he saved her from death and helped her recover fully. She wanted to convert her son and daughter in law as well. She was always smiling and happy and in high spirits. That can be misleading to someone that she has indeed found her true Guruji. Babaji held overnight samagams at her residence. There was no sign of any Guru Granth sahib there. The langer consisted of only roti and dhali masar dhal. She said babaji said that only that dhaal was accepted as pure in sach khand. She taught us stitching and talked about dassan das as well. Many of the shabads sang as well are not from the Guru Granth Sahib. However we had Guru Granth Sahib Ji parkash as our place so we carried on with our religion as it was.
  15. After reading through a number of masturbation and lust problems, I was reading through a website when I came across a message which could be highly helpful. http://satnaam.info/2005/12/02/2-overcoming-the-effect-of-past-lives/ Practicing what this page says should help to put you back on the right path. May Waheguru help you.
  16. Recently someone sent me an app showing Anita Moorjani's story about how she was inflicted with cancer and got cured. Her After death experience has been related by her. It was interesting and I ended up thinking about many of the quotes which are in Sikhi. marta marta jag mua mar bhi na janaya koi. Esi marni ko mare bohor na marna hoye. The SGGS tells us that the world has been created by God himself. He sits and watches it. Aval Allah noor upaya. Kudrat ke sabh bandhe. Ek noor te sabh jag upjeya. First Allah created the light, then by his creative power he made all the mortal beings. From the one light, the entire universe welled up. Birth in the human form is considered of the highest degree. Is dehi ko simre dev. so dehi bhaj har ki sev. Even the gods long for this human body. so vibrate that human body and think of serving the Lord. In my understanding, a persons current life will determine what happens to him after death. The bad people will be taken by the jandoots who beat them and torture them. For protection from the jamdhoots, we have been given Naam and bani. Reading this link may answer many of your questions. http://www.sadhsangat.com/tag/sggs-p-139/
