What are dreams? Do they mean much or are they beyond out understanding? My mum had a dream about me and she was telling my dad and I heard it all. She dreamed about me being a little boy playing in the garden and then she saw two black snakes slithering towards me but I dont see them, they try biting me twice but miss and then my mum comes running towards me and picks me up. She was telling my dad. I'm guessing something bad was gnna happen but for whatever reason it didnt happen?
In the past my mum and other people I know have had dreams which seemed very real.
We used to have this old irish lady live nxt door to us as and she passed away, a few months later my mum dreamed about her and she was sitting in a very cold place and the lady says to my mum that shes in a very cold place and her body is in pain and she needs something to warm her up. My mum said it was so real that it didnt even feel like a dream.
Every week my mum buys tea bags, milk and sugar and leaves it in the langar hall at the gurdwara, one week she forgot to do that. Our family friend who lives down the road said she had a dream where my mums mother, my nani, was looking through our kitchen draws and she said i can't find the tea bags I'm not sure where shes put them this week! My mums friend then told my mum and my mum remembered she completely forgot to buy chaa for the langar hall!
My dads had a dream about about his dead brother, he was running around in our pind at night and it was raining, he couldn't find any shelter and stood under a tree, he then tells my dad that he has no shelter anywhere so hes gnna sit under a tree! He like directly told my dad. My dad was telling us this the nxt day.
I mean some of this is some crazy stuff!

A 5 k is kesh. I think akj see kesh as dastar regardless of male or female while eg nanaksar see it as keeping your hair uncut.
I guess I am asking, is a dastar compulsory for a amritdhari female or is a chunni ok, or is nothing okay day to day and is it only required at certain times? I have a lot of female family members who only wear a chunni to gurdwara and nothing otherwise, yet they have taken amrit. They don’t wear a kirpan either. When I say I would want to fully wear a kirpan and dastar if I am ever lucky enough to take amrit, they think I’m extreme and over the top. I also wouldn’t wear makeup and jewellery but they all do. So I wonder am I the one who is assuming this is required which is making me delay amrit for longer as I’m not ready to wear a dastar and completely make those changes (I need my ego to lessen) or am I the one misunderstanding and is it okay to do what they do and therefore I am delaying it when I could do it sooner.
Yes bibian should keep their heads covered at all times. And I believe it should be Nd normally is same for the men. I think a Amritdhari Sikh should keep a keski on at all times instead of jus a cloth, but some believe different. I believe that just like u need a gatra with a kirpan, we should have a keski with our kesh

Bro, you cannot be this ignorant.
Those groups you mentioned are the ones who keep stopping women from doing keertan. Dhumma Taksal threw a fit when Punjab Government recommended Bibyan be allowed to do seva.
SGPC had already made a decision to allow bibyan to do keertan seva in 1940, and Sri Akal Takht Sahib reaffirmed it in 1996.
I’m not in support of dhumma and I will never be. That man is not a sant I would never call him the mukhi of the taksal. He’s the same person who said Sri dasam granth wasn’t by dasam patshah himself. Today’s taksal isn’t the same as the real one that had ended with Sant giani thakur Singh jis death. People like dhumma r ruining the taksal. Nd I still do not support sgpc cuz the other stupid things they have done

Chauvin (the cop who killed Floyd) and Floyd worked for the same employee for a few years (a nightclub). I think they were both working as security but one of the two was on the front door. That's fishy, too.
yeah there was probably some problems between them since then. but if u look at the cops record, theres a lot stuff on there that just tells u hes racist

I was born and bred in Surrey and I can guarantee you this much that Surrey is the last place anyone should emigrate to, especially from the Uk. I left Surrey in 1990 and never went back. UK is much nicer than Canada in every way. The British are lot more sophisticated, mannerful, mind their Ps and Qs, know their table and manners, are very refined generally with good bedside manner. They are generally easy to get on with, are very aware of other people’s culture and are more willing to accept you even as you are. The English are the best and everyone thinks very highly of them all over the world.
I’ve never been to uk, but ur point is very tru.

Dear Sangat
I am thinking of moving to Canada - specifically around Vancouver area. There are job opportunities for me
I would like to be near the city, but not living in it. Up to 25 miles
I am aware that there is large Sikh community which will be helpful.
What are good areas to live, but which are not ghettoised ? I am only aware of Surrey which seems to be a nice area. Mission apparently not a great place
Anyone made the move? What about getting housing, food etc
idk bout housing food ect. but abbotsford is like a more quieter surrey nd theres 4 gurudwaras in our small city. also, one of the oldest gurudwaras of canada is in abbotsford

I have a few quesions
What’s the difference between a normal chola and a taksali chola
Can you wear a pajami with a chola
where can you get a chola sewed around Birmingham
and is a kurta pajma a Sikh thing of indian is it okay to weae
Nihang chola are better for gatka and jangs. They provide more free movement of legs as they are normally shorter from the bottom. they seem to be more in width at the bottom too. nihang singhs tend to wear longer kashera. taksali chola are like long kurtas. they look almost the same but i think nihang cholas r shorter at the bottom

What is the optimal nutritional regime for health & longevity? (this is not a vegi vs meat topic or anything like that, so dont start)
I believe in Gurbani it says to talk little, sleep little and eat little. Is this just from a spiritual perspective so one can concentrate on bhagti or is this also best for optimal health? I know that intermittment fasting is popular these days and caloric restriction studies have shown positive effects on health and longetivity.
I've heard in some samparda's they eat only twice a day, is that true? Can anyone shed further light on this that may have stayed with nihang dals or taksal etc or how/when they eat etc?
Also why do nihangs call tea tidh fookni lol?
Are there any other references in Guru Granth Sahib Ji...or even Dasam Granth or Sarbloh Granth in regards to health & diet? This topic interests me so it would be good to hear whatever knowledge people may have
my parents always told me nihang singhs survived of eating lots of sholay (chickpeas) they have lots of power in em. also shardai (without sukha) its full of power

Would Sikh country/society be governed by Akal Takht? Why don't we hear much from Akal Takht or decisions and social issues? or do we?
Isn't Sikhi and politics supposed to be completely intertwined? what is Sikh politics? you read about how in the old days Akal Takht used to summon punishments and even excommunicate people, it seems Akal Takht held a very prominent position historically but now?
for example in Islamic countries muslims face consequences if they break Islamic law, is that how Akal Takht is supposed to work? because it seem that is how it was with Sikh back in the days.
If a Sikh did anything "blasphemous" would he/she be punished in a Sikh country?
Who finalizes and makes decisions at the akal takht? Is it SGPC?

My recommendation is don’t tie a pointy turban like a patiala shahi pagg. First of all cuz u will have the joora problem. But second of all because those types of turbans weren’t given to us by the gurus. The gol dastar or nihang dumala was given to us and it is the original Sikh turban. The patiala shahi pagg came from maharaja of patiala. They wore those turbans to show the oppressing British sarkar that they were there “friends” I find that as a sign of slavery. The British feared nihangs, and obviously feared their great dumala sahibs. So thas how there pointed turbans came

Hello all. I am currently in the phase of switching from a patka to a regular dastar but am having some trouble with it. My hair is so long and so thick that when I tie my hair up in a Joora (sp?) it pretty much is half the size of my head and super big vertically. When tying a dastar even if I use a cloth to cover my entire head before tying it, I have trouble for the following reasons:
1st larr is supposed to go over the joora but I have insane trouble doing this and keeping it tight (first larr gets loose, dastar feels very loose/awkward)
I've tried tying my hair around my head (seriously)... worst idea ever.
I am not tying a dumalla (so please do not ask me to)
My dastar ends up with a massive point on one side of my head (to cover the joora) which just looks insanely weird. My only other option is to have a dastar with a joora sticking up so high that it looks like a patka.
I have the most success when I tie my joora very loose.. but sometimes this can be very annoying because then my hair is everywhere as its not tight at all.
Any suggestions on what I can do? What to do with my hair to make it easier? Thanks in advance.
Veerji, it’s our maryada to wrap first part of dastar with dastar Kapra and make joora like that. It’s called a keski and it’s tied under dumala sahibs. Just look up how to tie dumala sahib or keski and it will come up

Today I see many people mix Punjabi culture things with sikhi. Like I personally think that Bhangra, giddha and other things like this aren’t related to sikhi and aren’t allowed for Sikh to do. People need to understand that being Punjabi is different than being a Sikh. Do u guys think that Bhangra and giddha r forbidden in sikhi?? I wanna hear sum more people’s vichar in this

Why did they let her in? I dnt think there is any other group of people that are besharam enough to welcome and let in the person that ordered the destruction of their holy place. we've been a lost cause for a long time.
I think it’s because of the concept of how everyone of welcome to any gurudwara. But like u have a point. Why should we let the person who attacked the darbar sahib, massacred many children, and destroyed the akal takht, into the darbar sahib

I have always wonderes as to why have i never seen any woman granthies at Darbar Sahib . Then i came to know that they are simple not allowed to be . Given the great virtues of equality our Gurus gave bestowed upon us, i fail to understand why there is this discrimination at our most important Gurudwara . Why doesn't anyone do something about this?????????
It’s cuz SGPC is there. SGPC literally destroys sikhi. If u look at the maryada of a sevadar at darbar sahib, it’s says the sevadar needs to have a patiala shahi pagg type turban or any pointed dastar. Sevadars cannot wear gol dastars or dumallas. Sevadars have to wear a pajami with their chola, they can’t just wear only a kashera with their chola. I’m sure these people do not also allow bibis to do kirtan. In sant jis time, bibis used to be allowed to do kirtan. SGPC probably has many corrupt people as leaders. We need Budha dal, damdami taksal, tarna dal and all other jathebandis to come together to confront sgpc and to unite under one Nishan sahib

Tribune News Service
Amritsar, May 31
Ahead of the Operation Bluestar anniversary that falls on June 6, the police have tightened security in and around the Golden Temple, stopping devotees from entering the shrine complex.
This comes in the wake of clashes between SGPC workers and pro-Khalistan activists in the Golden Temple in recent years. A police officer said, “We apprehend that some Sikh activists might gather inside the shrine in advance. Moreover, we want to ensure social distancing in view of the Covid pandemic.” Section 144 has been imposed, and carrying any weapon, including the “kirpan”, has been banned.Akal Takht officiating Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh is yet to take a call on the programme. His “parallel” counterpart Bhai Dhyan Singh Mand, however, has said he would offer at Akal Takht and deliver a “public address”. — TNS
sgpc isnt good. they r weaking sikhi. we are supposed to be keeping modern weapons, and they dont even let singhs wear kirpans????

yeh i agree. Theres so many sikhs that sticked to their maryada instead of living. that is just sikhi. not "hardcore sikhi" like wat even is that

They could be payed or they are just very brainwashed that sant ji was a terrorist. Many people use one reason why sant ji is bad. people say that sant ji butchered and killed many innocent hindus. but in many photos u can see sant ji happily welcoming hindus to akal takht. He welcomed subramanian swamy. he wasnt killed. theres no prove that sant ji killed hindus himself. Many hindus even have stories of meeting sant ji and they say that they were openly welcomed.

Why Did The Amritdhari Singh Cut His Hair & Start Doing Drugs?
in WHAT'S HAPPENING?

I know this has nothing to do with this topic, but I have a question. So, when I comb my hair, tuns of dead kes fall out, so what should I do with the hair that comes out? Should I just throw it away or do something else?
