Any guidance in Sikhi about parenting and punishing kids for bad behaviour? How did your parents punish you as child for being bad? Or how do you punish your kids? With strict Punjabi parents, my brother and I always got proper punishments. Normally 5 mins of spanking with a karachi (wooden spoon). Looking back it did hurt but I’m glad my parents did it because it stopped me behaving bad. And I used to behave really bad!

My kids are 8 and 11. I know other options available like grounding or banning TV, but sometimes it’s not enough?

sant baba Gurbachan singh ji bhindranwale said that people beat their children cuz they dont know how to teach them in a loving way. i dont think disciplining a child has anything to do with sikhi honestly.

Where’s all the threads about NKJ / Dhadrianwale allegations and anti Gurmat parchar? What’s happening with this situation currently?

apparently dhadrianwale has been shunned from the panth by dhumma and his peers. A little while back he said he wants no more violence and all that and said he will step down for the sake of his followers and their safety. I think Dhadrianwale and even dhumma are gov. people. The government knew the taksal was always willing to give their lives and were brave, so the sarkar has created this problem to break down our panth.

  3. tbh i think all these events, and leaders have been put in place by government to ruin the taksal. Damdami taksal was the main threat to the indian gov. and i think it makes sense that they have placed leaders like dhumma and they try to kill the taksal by making them look bad. that is not the real taksal. the real taksal was when sant jarnail singh bhindranwale was around.

I don’t think it’s possible to order gutka sahib online. Because delivery parcels get thrown about and left on the floor meaning no guarantee of satkar

Do you live in UK? Best option really is next time you go India to buy from there. Or ask someone going to buy for you. Lots of gurdwaras there have shops with gutka sahibs. Definitely outside Harmandir Sahib you can get them

paji, i am a 13 year old and im very interested in the taksal and the mahapurkhs who were taksali. i have a question about a mahapurkh. Why did sant baba thakur singh ji bhindranwale say sant jarnail singh ji khalsa is alive? and which sant thakur singh ji said that was it the one thats alive today or the one that used to wear a white dastaar?

I would say that the sgpc Maryada of Sachkhand harmanidr shaib is questionable as im confused why you have to wear a triangle paag to do seva as to do kirtan you cant wear a gol dastaar.  also women doing kirtan is agen sgpc, also how Darbar shaib should inspire Many Sikhs I feel that Sikh tradition kirtan should be promoted form there with tattnti saajs and this is not done as all you see is an harmonium, there once was a time at harmanider shaib when the rabab use to play even the animal would sit an listen, but thanks to sgpc this is a thing of the past, also the grantis have to wear an Pajama they cant were a chola ??????? I hope im wrong plz tell me all these thing iv hear are all false. all I see is that the sgpc are on. a mission to distroy Sikh and are against everything,

ikr these things arent good. when sant ji was around, i heard females could do keertan in darbar sahib. also, the dumala was the dastaar given by the guru. the triangle pagg wasnt. sgpc isnt good.

During first 5 Guru's time, Sikhs would have worn very simple turban styles. The sole purpose was to keep our uncut hair covered and clean. By time of Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji things changed. It was time for Sikhs to fight against injustice and protect the innocent. The Sikh bana (chola, big kachera, dumala, kamarkassa, gatra with kirpan) was created as our warrior uniform. It was designed to be practical for fighting, horse riding etc. Certain colours became favored like blue, orange and yellow.

Suddenly Sikhs had a strong identity, and they were tyar bar tyar. Dumala is the best turban style for battle. It won't fall off easy, it acts as protection for your head, and could be used to hold shastar like chakar. Guru Gobind Singh Ji made our identity even more stand out, "there's a Sikh", by giving hukam of keeping 5Ks

Dumala carried on from that time. After battles were over slowly the dumala shastar became less frequently seen, dumala sizes became smaller. Today each group has their own interpretation of it. Nihang Singh's are very tyar bar tyar - their dumalas reflect this normally having chakars or shastar on.

I used to tie taksali dumala - because taksal is what I was looking at growing up. I admired people like Sant Jarnail Singh Ji (still do)

Relevance of bana and dumala today

I realized bana is our 'jang di paishak' (battle uniform). I have serious respect for bana but think there's a time and place for it. For my office job I tie patiala shahi style pagh and it looks incredibly smart with a suit and tie under which I wear 3 inch kirpan. But for playing gatka I tie dumala, wear chola, big kachera and a 9 inch kirpan in gatra which I proudly wear over, not under, clothing

great explanation thx brother. Also do you know were i can order a taksali gutka  online?

  8. People are turning the dastar into a fashion in foreign countries. They tie dastars and then start making tik toks of them doing sum besharm trending dances. ANd they also wear tuns, and i mean like TUNS of makeup with their dastar. I dont think sikh women should wear makeup. ive seen sikh models who wear dastars but have waxed legs. if you want to wear a dastar u gotta follow maryada, but these people dont.

Do you have naturally curly hair, since birth? Otherwise our kesh-care routines might be contributing to leaving hair curly

Don’t be tempted to over-comb your kesh, and always be gentle.

A lot of shampoo removes natural moisture from hair - more chance of getting (too dry) & curly. Use oil if you don’t already. After washing let hair almost dry then apply small amount of oil. I’d recommend almond oil

    yes its curly by birth

lets correct ourselves rather than correcting other ppl.

We wash harmandar sahib marble floor every morning with buckets of milk. If our guru sahibs saw that, they wouldn't like it !

yes yes. good point. hindus need to understand and calm down too. ranjit bawa didnt specifically mention hindus. so he could be talking about sikh washing marble floor with milk. when did this tradition start tho?

FIR has been reported against singer Ranjeet bawa for apparently using denigrating words for hinduism in his song.

His newly launched song "mera ki kasoor" had lyrics questioning why milk is wasted on stone idol instead of feeding it to poor. Why cowshhitt is holy but shadow of a low caste person is impure. And so on.

Hindus in punjab protested against the song . And bawa had to take it back I guess and apologize for it.

Even in YouTube comment section one could see Sikhs supporting bawa and Hindus making attacking remarks against Sikhs in general

i think ranjit bawa said wat a sikh would say. think about it. why IS A STATUE BEING FED MORE THAN POOR PEOPLE?????

Why can't we have some1 like sant ji again ?

nowadays, people are greedy and when they become leaders or "sants" they become corrupt. when sant baba kartar singh ji passed away and the sangat chose sant baba jarnail singh ji as the jathedar, sant jarnail singh ji refused to become the jathedar and told the sangat to give this seva to someone else (which was an act of humility) the sangat had to get the hukam from the panj pyare to get sant jarnail singh ji to agree. think of how humble people used to be. nowadays, people want to show themselves in the community when they become jathedar and they end up developing greed and ego. today, "sants" live in giant houses. during sant jis time, all sants were simple and humble people

Nothing is so simple. That u can write it as right or wrong. Only gurbani has the daraja that we can say its 100% correct and shudh as it was written by the Gurus themselves and checked by them. Even then there are small discrepencies between the different historical birs due to human error.

So every thing else we cant say is 100% correct. BUT that does not mean we discard it. Look at the muslims and chriatians, there scriptures were written years later and are translated so many times from the original yet they still have faith.

And unless this new wave of discard dasam granth discard this that is sweeping into the panth, it was the opposite in the olden days. Sikhs would read and learn from other faiths scriptures. now we r maligning our own. Theres always something u can learn from everything.

Wheres the scholarly spirit of sikhs? Where u read different sources, compare and come to ur own nirna/formulation?

On facebook, ppl used to write sikhs are so dumb they created most of history but did not write any of theirnown history.

And now we have history of the gurus time And WRITTEN BY SIKHS, and sikhs are complaining about it!!

Look bhai santokh singh and bhai rattan singh the respected writers of sooraj granth, panth parkash etc did their job and wrote down what they knew and what they heard from other sikhs and villagers. They acted like recorders and wrote down all that was prevalent at that time. So that those sakhis would not get lost. So we should be thankful! And if we dont agree with a sakhi, thats ok that was probably just a folklore that got added in. Look at the muslims, they have rated their hadiths on how accuruate they were. And they still kept the not so accurate ones but just noted that it wasnt thst authentic.

Also Taksal is about keeping the scholarly spirit of sikhi alive. In the olden days, its curriculum included reading hindu granths for comparison and debate education. Even now they read sarkitavali, a translation intl panjabi of a hindu puraan. And u want taksal to give up Sooraj parkash because of a few inaccuracies? Taksal is perfectly capable of explaining those inaccuracies and providing opposing evidence. They wont get brainwashed.

dhanwaad tera ji. thank u for giving a great explanation. i have another question. what is the difference between damdami taksals taksali gutka and the other ones like budha dal ones ect.

    1. is listening to music bad for sikhs? i understand simran and kirtan is good but what if we want to be in a more aggressive mood like how theres Nihang Misl songs with rap beats in the back. at the end of the day they are only praising Gods glory rite?

    2. is it wrong to produce instrumental rap beats using softwares on my computer? it seems like a nice hobby and pastime to create music instrumentals. or to upload them on YouTube and people actually turn it into a living as well by selling them online or getting artists to send them audio digitally etc.

as Sikhs, we can turn this negative hip hop into something positive, let me know your thoughts on this sadh sangat jio. (im Amritdhari 16-years old)

    bhul chuk maaf karni

    vjjk vjkf

Waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh. Im also a amritdhari teen (14) . bro i listen to lots of dhadi and kavishri remixes made by kam lohgarh and other producers. I think listening and producing remixes is totally fine. their is nothing wrong in a rap beat. all we should stay a way from is lyrics commonly used in raps. (the ones that talk about drugs, women, egoEct.) otherwise i think making remixes and all that is good as it can totally change a person whos a youth. i used to be mona but i later kept my kesh and changed my whole lifestyle after listening to kavisheris and dhadi remixes. but this is just my opinion. i do not have much knowledge on this.
