    The Greatness Of Gurmukhi Varanmala

Singh Sahib Jathedar Baba Mitt Singh Ji (Sevadar Mata Sahib Devan Ji Nanded), Sant Giani Gurbachan Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale and Jathedar Baba Bishan Singh Ji (12th Mukhi of Misl Shaheedan Tarna Dal) were all known to do jaap of the Gurmukhi Varanmala (alphabet). Baba Bishan Singh Ji was known to do Jaap of the Varanmala whenever they would have Ishnaan at Amritvela. When Gursikhs asked the reason for doing so Baba Ji would say, “All knowledge, be it from worldly knowledge to Brahamgiaan, is contained in the 35 Akhars of Gurmukhi. Whoever awakes at Amrit Vela and does Jaap of the Gurmukhi Varanmala, they never face any shortage.” Baba Ji would say that the Gurmukhi Alphabet and Kes are the life force of every Khalsa. A Khalsa should never turn their back on either of these.

If you were a Sikh you would be trying to make as many Sikh children as possible. You are a disgrace we don’t need you. If anything you are making people against Sikhi by randomly attacking any newbie.

thats a bold statement, householder life is not a requirement but what maharaj have told sikhs is that a celibate should never look down upon householders as if being celibate automatically makes them more liberated contrary to people nowadays narrating it as maharaj being against celibacy

as from producing offspring go, why dont need to depend on that, thats never how sikhi grew

I was answering it. Not everyone is glued to the screen 24/7 like you. Seriously. Go out and do something in your life for once. Yeah sure stay celibate in a time when we need more Sikhs in the world than ever. Makes sense. lol.

its okay bibi, maharaj has 96 crori fauja tyaar bar tyaar, we dont need to worry about sikhi getting eradicated when it survived even when Maharaj only had 3 singhs by his side in machiwara

    I completely agree.

There was a Khatri Jathedaar. Khatri community used to say that there is no sikh like him on the planet.

Whenever anyone tried to ask him about the need of khalistan, he used to say that no need to talk about khalistan, just read gurbani and khalistan will automatically come into existence.

I think he was afraid that if he gave some views about khalistan, Indian agencies etc might get after him or keep an eye on him.

you referring to baba santa singh?

My parents both from Ludhiana zila, what about your Mum's side - which district in Malwa ?

I have two uncles here who married Doabans.

Why bring jatts into a Sikhi discussion? And genetics?

Btw, most of the 'kharkus' and high proportion of historical Sikh figures were from Majha. Majha is still relatively highly represented (at least from what I have seen) in terms of Amritdharis and Rehitvaan Sikhs.

Malwa has highest population of Sikhs so would naturally have visibly more Sikhs who are religious but equally many who are not. Malwa seems the political 'heartland' since Partition - e.g. Badals, Captain, Channi, Beanta all from/born in Malwa.

On the 'negative side' all the 'Manns' in Panjabi music are from Malwa. KP Gill , General K Brar .

I think Malwa can also be broken down into subsections given how large it is. There's difference between say Mohali and Moga. Sant Jarnail Singh Ji were from Moga are, and many 'kharkus' were from around there.

There are hardly any Sikhs and Panjabis from the western/southwestern part of Panjab abroad compared with the eastern side and bordering Doaba areas.

    Mohali is moreso powadhi innit

  6. Doaba is pretty weak and home to very quasi sikh demographic, we have most deras and pakhandis (beas radhasoamis, nakodar, etc.)

Jalandhar is known to be a more urban and urban sikhs tend to be sort of not as panthic as rural populations

Hoshiarpur is slightly more rural but also haa a large non sikh population

Sikhs of Doaba tend be lot more into deras and all that evidently

  7. About Vadde mahapurkh's early life before joing Sant Sundar Singh ji's jatha, is it true they had taken pahul from Budha Dal and had been a nihang singh before hearing Sant Sundar Singh jee at a smagam where budha dal mukhi Akali Baba Teja Singh were also present. There are several different views on this, and since most of sangat here is from England, fortunately residence to sachkhand niwasi Giani Gurdev Singh ji, Giani Pritam Singh Likhari ji and other prominent singhs of jatha bhindran, I was wondering if anyone had heard something of the sort from a singh etc., there are people saying Vadde Mahapurkh used to consume jhatka once and degh as well until becoming mukhi of Taksal. Just want to clarify the details. Would appreciate any further khoj done. Anything about this in sri gurmukh prakash or giaan kirna or khalsa vachitar jeevan?

so ive been wondering for quite some while now, apart from sampardai, is it okay for individuals to incorporate more bani into their evening rehras as part of their personal abhyaas

edit: I think we may have talked about this in another topic way back

edit: yea just looked through, it was the "chhota anand sahib" question I asked way back lol

I think it’s less about what’s allowed or not, and more on what someone thinks is right. The Panth as a whole hasn’t come to a consensus on using just one Rehras Sahib paaht, and lots of Gutkas both online and physical don’t have the full Rehras in it.

do we really need a single rehras sahib, sure it would be good to have one standardized for the majority of mainstream gurudwaras, and one that acts as an minimum and one can argue the taksal one already functions as a baseline minimum; ofc I agree on the issue being not what one does paath of but the puratan original maryada from which I take it that you mean its okay if an individual has a different rehras evening nitnem that builds on top of the existing versions of rehras sahib (not to further dilute maryada, just as abhias)?

do you mean the one from charitro pakhyan bani?

even what we call full chaupai sahib has its swaiye and dohhra from ram avtar bani

benti chaupai in itself is the kabiyo baach benti chaupai going upto dookh na tisai biaapat koee and chaupai sahib can be as long as eternity adding swaiye, dohre, arril, chaupais from dasam bani

does anyone here know if baba deep singh ji or singh sahib bhai mani singhs gutka sahibs are available on the gurmat veechar website?

speaking of finding what is right, that is why I had asked whether anyone knows if these gutkas can be found on the gurmat veechar website or anywhere else?

Remember this was a period when a sikh organisation could hide behind women to remove Khalsa leaders from Akali Bunga, such as what happened with Budha Dal chief Baba Sahib Singh Kaladhari.

that is sad, are there any sources clearly describing the events in which they were ousted, was it due to differences in maryada? sgpc claim they already had control over the thakt before the "intoxicated nihangs" came and took over

were renowned leaders like kartar singh jhabbar behind this as well

surely not all of babbar akali lehar or singh sabha lehar can be stained by this considering mahapurkhs like sant sundar singh ji and sant attar singh ji spearheading and taking an active part in the morchas and did widespread parchar in rural areas of punjab for the lehars thanks to which the movement matured outside cities and municipalities

Can any veer put some information, share some sakhis on the life of Nihang Baba Mitt Singh Jee ? Baba Jee opened up a Taksal in Hazur Sahib ? Is that Taksal still running ?

    Thanks

topic old as hell but Im bored ?

not sure about taksal, but they stayed and headed the sewa at gurudwara asthan Mata Sahib Devan which was lately under sewa of Baba Prem Singh 96crori who has taught 1000s of vidyarthees (giani sher singh has mentioned that older singhs used to say that they look like Baba Mitt Singh ji in built and roop) and the current mukh sewadaar Baba Teja Singh ji was lately just couple weeks ago made meet jathedar/ghoreya de jathedar of budha dal under Baba Maan Singh ji 96crori

Hazuri taksal is more so referred to the Sri Hazur Sahib taksal which has gupt itihas, but its likely Hazur Sahib being such a important institution throughout history did serve as a vidyala for hazuri sikhs and nihangs

Sachkhand Niwasi Giani Hardeep Singh ji is infamous for being a mukh sewadar of this taksal in modern day, having standardized and published Hazuri gutkas, having taught bhai ram singh dhupia, Singh Sahib Baba Kulwant Singh, sachkhand niwasi head kathavachik giani amardeep singh and they served at Hazur Sahib for decades as head granthi

going back to Baba Mitt Singh ji mahapursh, they had taught many students and imparted vidya and santhia to many, and most infamous of these are Baba Santa Singh budha dal and Baba Daya Singh ji bidhichandiye

Well, I would assume he was spiritually high, really up there with jeevan??

hanji, he must have been named "kaladhari" by the panth for some reason right?

its just one of those instances in history where there are two opposing sides and its hard to imagine either one of them being in the grave wrong like baba banda singh bahadur and tat khalsa on top of how loosely documented these events are we cant even be sure about the authenticity of these events since it can be outside forces trying to create schisms within panth but it seems to play into a theme throughout our itihas of somewhat reformist vs. traditionalists where reformists end up being more dominant and glorified than the others (maharaja ranjit singh and akali panth, sgpc and akali panth, etc.)

Let's look at WHY the SIngh Sabha wanted to take over Sri Akal Bunga first.

IN the 1920s when 2nd Singh Sabha Lehar started, low caste people, esp Churre and Chamars, were NOT allowed to enter the Parikarma of Darbar Sahib because of their caste. The management (pre SGPC) were enforcing this. Low castes had to do namishkar from the steps and go back.

What kind of nonsense is this in the holiest place in the world?

The Singh Sabha wanted to end this as they did an enormous amount of parchar amongst low castes and brought thousands into Sikhi. However the British backed management of Darbar Sahib would not allow them in. Guess who was either supporting the management, or at the very least allowing it to happen? The same Nihangs you are talking about.

How on earth is this Gurmat? By those whoare supposed to be the custodians of Sikhi?

When the Singh Sabha had wrested control of Darbar Sahib from the British stooges, they moved to the next important shrine in the complex - Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

You have to ask yourself, why did the nihangs let such manmat happen in there.

apparently many also agree that post British conquest, and when Baba Prehlaad SIngh jee returned to Panjab, Anandpur became the new center of Budha Dal rather than Akaal bunga

british sources say about 500-600 Akali nihangs were present at Sri Akal Thakt (from times of Ranjit Singh's raj)

now imagining even a weaker stronghold of akalis, not sure if they could have done much either way other lose their lives
