Melbourne man jailed over extortion campaign targeting kids.

Ranpati Amarasinghe pressured an 11-year-old girl he met online into sending him child abuse material and later uploaded the content to a porn site in order to blackmail her.

When the girl blocked him, Amarasinghe messaged her from new accounts, threatening to pass on the abuse content to her friends and family if she did not comply with his demands for even more material.

Her mother begged the 24-year-old, who often posed online as “John”, to stop, saying she feared her daughter might take her own life because of the trauma he had inflicted upon her.

But he told her that he hoped she did just this.

Amarasinghe on Wednesday faced the Victorian County Court, where he was sentenced to a total 13 years and six months in jail.

The Sri Lankan national pleaded guilty to 25 child abuse material offences relating to six girls aged 11 to 17, including four in the United States, one in the United Kingdom and one in Australia, from November 2018 to June 2020….

“Get ready to be ruined,” Amarasinghe told one girl.

    “I’m ruining your life and you don’t give a s*** - you’re a f***ing <banned word filter activated>.”

Judge Douglas Trapnell said Amarasinghe had been on a cruel and perverted mission to completely destroy people’s lives.

The 24-year-old’s “insidious” and “chilling” actions left the girls and their families devastated by extreme trauma, he added.….

Amarasinghe, once a promising a cricketer, had watched porn online from the age of 11, struggled to develop intimate relationships and had a “fragile self-esteem”, the court was told.

He was arrested in September 2020.

“Sextortion, also known as image-based abuse, is a form of blackmail where someone threatens to share intimate images of you online unless you give in to their demands,” Australian Federal Police detective acting superintendent Aaron Hardcastle said in a statement following the sentencing.…

Amarasinghe must serve at least eight years and six months behind bars before he is eligible for parole.

Disgusting! Just a while back, I read about a newly immigrated Panjabi man in Australia caught in a similar case with a young white girl. He was actively involved in a Gurdwara and female attendees there always found him suspicious.

Seems to be a slow rise in these cases occurring where the perpetrators are Desis.

Muhammad Rasheed jailed for sexually abusing teenager amid hundreds of sextortion charges

    Key points:

    • Muhammad Zain Ul Abideen Rasheed has been jailed for more than five years
    • He also allegedly acted as a teenage social media celebrity to befriend girls
    • His lawyer said he had an "obsessive sexual interest in young females"

The court heard the 26-year-old was born in Pakistan and had migrated to Australia aged five with his family, who were described as deeply religious and strict.

Mr Andrews said Rasheed faced significant cultural issues that had impaired the development of his social skills, particularly his dealings with females.

He said those issues, including feeling lonely, had led to Rasheed's "unhealthy obsession" with pre-pubescent girls, which he now planned to address through counselling.

We need to send the Sikh Khalsa army in to get our girls out! Baba bless.

I don't think the girls were Sikh. More likely to be Hindu because the girl whose video went viral was also from Lucknow Uttar Pradesh and many Hindu students are making their way to the Poland Gurdwara.

  3. Report from a Gurdwara in Poland. Ukrainian army has taken 3 girls (allegedly), their location is unknown.

A number of students have managed to reach the safety of a Gurdwara in Poland where they have been sharing the horrific ordeals they have had to face. Not only is there a racial bias but new reports suggest they have also targeted females as in this video we are told that 3 girls have been taken by the Ukrainian military while the boys were eventually allowed to pass. I remember when I was young how strict the sikh men around me used to be. Now they accept all types of degeneracy from their kids.

    I agree.

Panjabi singers have stooped so low that they have foreign women in skimpy clothing dancing on the side while they smoke! All this and no one will bat an eye.

Yeah that is true. Pakistan has even worse conditions than us no? Not really seen people from there act in the way apne do.

There are many international students coming from Pakistan too but the craze isn't widespread the same way it is among Panjabis.

Even Pakistanis in the poorest of villages seem satisfied with their lives.

Yes that is true. But I'm also wondering if pakistanis or any other country also have so many students from there dying in foreign countries? I've not really heard as many cases of students from other parts of indian dying like this. But with punjabis it's literally every other day a bad news. Even check YouTube for punjabi student suicide you will find so many news in the recent years.

The conditions in other parts of India are probably worse than Panjab but they still manage to live there. But Panjabis are known for their love of Canada.

I think way more students from Punjab are coming to canada than uk. So we hear of more cases?

Isn't it harder for international students to move to the UK compared to Canada? Maybe thats why more go to Canada leading to more death cases there.

Even this is arguably self-inflicted by Panjabis on themselves through poor political/social/economic planning decisions.

To an extent yes. I have seen some voting for parties which give out the most freebies or staying loyal to the same one their ancestors voted for, without knowing the values of the party or what benefits it will bring to Panjab.

Why do parents just send their daughters like this to any random country?

It's sad how many young international Sikh/Panjabi students die, get attacked or are caught in wrong things. Many leave for a better life but face awful loneliness and struggle to settle.

  10. Suicides Have Spiked Among Canada’s International Students

    February 12, 2022

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, international students are being pushed to the point where mounting pressures have led to an escalation of deaths by suicide, not only in Brampton, but all over Canada.

According to a National College Health Assessment survey (Fall 2021), 14% of students surveyed have you told someone that you were going to commit suicide, or that they might do it? From the survey, 2.7% actually did attempt suicide in the past 12 months.

Some families in South Asia save for decades in order to have one of their children come to Canada and acquire a post-secondary education. However, once these international students arrive in Brampton (and Canada), they experience many challenges settling and adopting to their new environment. The challenges include financially pressures (primarily for housing and food security), mental health (depression and stress) and language barriers.

International students are more vulnerable to mental health issues in this COVID-19 pandemic, given that they are further isolated from potential support systems.

“The rise in suicides is very concerning,” says Harkirat Singh, Brampton Councillor for Wards 9 & 10. “I’ve personally gone to many funerals myself for international students, who unfortunately have taken their own life. There is a dire need for more support for these students.”

    ....

“We have seen a recent spike in suicides by international students in Canada, especially Punjabis/South Asians. Besides that, the number of heart attacks is also on the rise. For years, students suffered from mental health issues, but with covid-19 the situation became worse,” confirms Jaspreet Singh from the International Sikh Student Association.

However, mental health issues are not the only cause of problems. There are many other factors that contribute to mental health problems as well.

Singh states, “Including unfair behavior by colleges/professors, fraudulent employers or job agencies, as well as immigration lawyers/counselors that bait the job market and charge thousands of dollars just to find a job in restaurants.”

There are a lot of international students from South Asia in Canada, but there is a gap in resources.

“It’s not a communication gap, but a gap in culture,” says Singh.

  11. UBCO homicide victim a new resident to Canada

Harmandeep Kaur is being named as the victim from Saturday’s attack

Harmandeep Kaur is being named as the homicide victim of Saturday’s attack at UBC Okanagan.

Paramjit Singh Patara, vice-president of the Okanagan Sikh Temple, confirmed the 24-year-old woman’s name, saying she moved to Canada six years ago from India.

Kuljit Pabla is a family member of Kaur’s and resides in West Kelowna. “We are devastated,” he said.

“We just can’t comprehend why it happened,” said Pabla. “It just seems so senseless.”

“She came to Canada, trying to progress her life.”

She made the decision to move to Canada after discussions with her family. Pabla explained that her family chose Canada because they consider Canada a safe place. “Usually it is,” said Pabla.

She initially went to school in the Lower Mainland, but to improve her chances of being granted permanent residency she decided to start working. Pabla said that she was a hard worker and worked many jobs, including being a supervisor at a Five Guys restaurant.

“She worked many jobs to fast-track her permanent residency,” said Pabla.

Kaur had been granted her permanent residency just three weeks prior to the devastating attack. Pabla said she and her family were elated.

Most recently, she had been working for Paladin security as an officer at UBCO, hoping to one day attend school there, said Pabla.

“Her goal was to continue (her) education as she saved up money, with support from the family,” he said.

She would tell Pabla and his wife “I want to be like them,” when she saw the kids studying at the university while she worked security. “She wanted to be there as a student,” said Pabla.

She was attacked early in the morning on Sat. Feb. 26 after working an overnight shift on campus.

Kelowna RCMP announced Monday that Kaur had succumbed to her injuries and that officers were investigating her death as a homicide.

The attacker was identified shortly after the incident and was apprehended under the Mental Health Act. His identity has not been released and he remains in hospital and faces possible murder charges.

A press release from Kelowna RCMP indicated that the suspect was an employee of the university at the time of the attack.

Lesley Cormack, deputy vice-chancellor and principal at UBCO, issued a statement regarding the attack stating the campus is working with RCMP to provide any assistance required in the investigation.

“All of our security personnel are deeply valued members of our campus community. They work tirelessly every day to keep our students, faculty and staff safe and to be a welcoming, friendly and reassuring face when help is needed,” she said.

Patara explained that Kaur’s family is currently travelling from India to Canada and added that the temple has offered to pay for the funeral and expenses.

Kaur also has family in Squamish, the lower mainland and the U.S.

“No one deserved this, but she definitely didn’t deserve this,” said Pabla.

During Monday’s Kelowna City Council meeting Kara Triance, Kelowna RCMP superintendent stated that three of four homicides in the city last year involved a mental health component.

RCMP calls for service involving mental health-related issues were up slightly in 2021, at 3,105, compared with 2,899 in 2020. Triance said there is a need to respond to multiple different areas, such as the need for care while incarcerated, the need for mental health and substance use support and dealing with mental health calls in general.

“If Me & My Son Get Visa To Ukraine…”: Simranjit Singh Mann, After Backlash On Last Statement

A former police officer and president of the political party Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Simranjit Singh Mann has been making headlines recently due to one of his statements about the Russia-Ukraine war.

In his statement, he said, “Our people, the Sikhs now studying in Ukraine, instead of coming back to India, should report to the nearest military post and volunteer for military service against the Russian invasion. They should request the military authority to give them fortnightly training in infantry or artillery and then put them on duty to defend Ukraine.”

Due to this statement, the politician had to face some backlash. When in an interview, he was asked that as he was advising that people of Punjab and Sikhs should stay back in Ukraine and help the victims, so he shall start from himself and his son.

To this, Singh said he doesn’t have any problem with the same, if he and his son Emaan Singh got the visa, they will pack their bags and reach in three-four days to fight against Russia.

Meanwhile, Mann said if students volunteered for military service for Ukraine, “it would result in big laurels for Sikh community across the world”. “If we lived and had food and salt in Ukraine, studied there then there is no need to return. We are a martial race.” He also urged the youth to join military ranks to side with Ukraine.
