  1. 10/23/2007 TSS (Canada)- $ 200 10/24/2007 RS (California) - $500 10/25/2007 HH (Canada) - $50 THANK YOU !!!
  2. With a heavy heart, we regret to inform the Sangat that Harpal Singh has passed away. We just received this sad news. Despite all efforts by the doctors, and generous donations by the sangat for the patient's treatment, Harpal Singh could not be saved. Harpal Singh was admitted to Hospital for operation, but the same was delayed due to low blood count. More than 15 units of blood plasma were given to him but there was no improvement. He was on artificial respiration for the past day. Harpal Singh is survived by his wife, two daughters and two sons.
  3. October 5th 2007 Harpal Singh was admitted to the PGI hospital on Sept 24th for the surgery (for the second time, the first time on Sept 10th, he was discharged because they had another emergency patient). Everything was ready, the whole supplies for the surgery had been bought. But before operating, they found out that he had a very low blood cell count, so had to be given blood transfusions. Next day Harpal Singh was taken to the Surgery room but had to be wheeled back again as his health was not found fit for the surgery to take place, and was recommended more blood transfusions. Today, his health condition is reported to be serious.
  4. Installment of $500 sent to Jaswinder's Family. Sewa from sangat (mostly from SikhSangat) will cover J. Singh's medicine cost of October month and also the medicine cost of his mother (who donated her kidney). One more month (november) left for his expensive medicines. After November, med. cost will be cut half and bill will run approx. Rs 10,000/month (approx $250). That cost will continue until he gets well (approx. few months). Our team is also trying their best to accommodate some type of SikhGiving part time job for Jaswinder after he gets well. We also have update on Harpal Singh's case and will be uploading information on our website (SikhGiving.com) We humbly thanks sangat for their generous donations. Every single dollar counts !
  5. We would really like to help but at this moment our hands are tied with two ongoing projects (both of them are not done yet). We are already doing fund raising for Jaswinder Singh & his family. We are also trying to keep balance between types of projects we do in Punjab. We really don't want to say no but we hope some other long established Sikh organizations volunteer to help in such cases. We know united sikhs are doing similar sewa as well.. http://www.unitedsikhs.org/makepovertyhistory.. We would encourage sangat to contact united sikhs for this case.
  6. Waheguru ji ka khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh Sangat jee.. Good news that Harpal Singh's operation will be on schedule today after we requested hospital officials to have operation done asap. Harpal Singh is admitted in hospital and most likely in few hours, he will be taken for machine fitting operation. We would like to ask sangat to do ardas for the success of the operation and hope it will be all ok. Will keep sangat update on this. Waheguru Ji Ka khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

  9. Waheguru ji ka khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh SikhGiving is financially helping another Sikh Patient and his family to cope with their medical cost of approx. $350 a month. Due to lack of funds we were sending less money earlier (as two or three sewadars are sending from their pocket without asking anything from sangat). The family went to the point of where Jaswinder's dad, Sohan Singh had to sell his cycle in order to cover the cost. Somehow this news spread out in the public that a Sikh Organization is helping Sohan Singh's family. After that, their local Christian group came with an offer to Sohan Singh's family that they can cover his child's entire medical expense for 2 to 3 years. All they were asked to do is come to the church and they will be given the money, and that everything will be taken care of in the hospital/dispensary. Sohan Singh went to the Church feeling that he will be given money as goodwill by the church. When he went inside, he was taken by the church official to attend a special ceremony which was to adopt Christianity as his religion. Sohan Singh and his family are from deeply Sikh religious background. He was given instructions by them that if they want to get the financial support then he has to follow the ceremony rules which indirectly was to leave Sikhism and adopt their religion. Sohan Singh left the church immediately after he found that in their instructions he was told to eat Parshad of Christ (which was meat). SikhGiving never thought that this would be happening to someone in Punjab who is in need of help. Instead of helping a needy person, they are making him to do something which he and his family doesn't want to do. It was direct hit at us showing that Sikhs in Punjab can't help each other and others are lending hand to help them but with strings attached. We don't know but eventually to save his child's life a father can do anything and we don't want that to be happening to our brother Sohan Singh and his family. If you can help, please contact us and find how we can help Jaswinder Singh. If 30 of SikhSangat members can donate roughly $10 a month that will help this family to cover the medical cost of their son. Please tell your relatives and your friends to donate monthly for this cause. We don't expect this to be a one time donation but a recurring donation collecting maximum of $350 a month for few months and later on it will reduce to $200 to $250 a month. If you can donate, please do so generously. Details are published online @ http://www.SikhGiving.com/liveprojects.html Message to SikhGiving by Sohan Singh: http://www.sikhgiving.com/pdf/jsingh.pdf Waheguru Ji Ka khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh
  10. We at SikhGiving.com want to thank everyone for their generous donations and support over the past several weeks for this project. We reached our project target in such a short period of time which goes to show that when the Sikh Sangat gets together to work on any project it can be declared a success no matter how enormous the project is. SikhGiving.com members acted upon a news article in Tribune about the condition of Harpal Singh and decided to collect funds online for his treatment. SikhGiving.com raised $7485.28 through online donations. SikhGiving sewadars held the first fundraising in public at Fremont Gurdwara Sahib in California and in three hours we raised $2680. A big Thank you to all the contributors to this project. With Guru Saaheb's kirpaa we have raised enough money for Bhai Harpal Singh jee's operation to continue and the procedure which is likely to cost Rs 455,000 (US $11,260) and would have to be continued throughout life or until kidney transplantation is done. The CAPD procedure will be done by Baxter India, a subsidiary of Baxter International Inc. Baxter is a world-leading supplier of continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) therapy. SikhGiving.com Harpal Singh Harpal Singh, a 37 yr old Gursikh worked as a daily wage earner till he was ridden to bed because of acute health problems. Earnings of his wife Amarjit Kaur are not enough even to meet the daily needs of family of 6. They have 2 daughters and 2 sons; the elder daughter studies in class 8 and the youngest son has just started the schooling. Amarjit Kaur does not have a regular job and much her time is spent in making the rounds of PGI and other hospitals to get medicines and arrange for dialysis. The family is supported by certain NGO’s and local Sangat. Before shifting to Chandigarh for treatment, the family lived in Assam where he used to make number plates of vehicles and name plates. In 1998 he had a kidney transplant; kidney was taken from a dead body. In 2002 this kidney also went bad. Since then he is living on frequent dialysis. He can not do any work as he can not move out to avoid infection and his liquid intake (water, tea etc.) is restricted to 250 cc in 24 hours. This he uses to take medicine. Their date was fixed for operation on September 11th. He was admitted on Monday (September 10) morning but was told to go home in the evening. Today (Sep 15th) their operation is scheduled for 2nd week of October. Both Harpal Singh and his wife Amarjit Kaur are very thankful to SikhGiving for the help they have provided. 13. Vaheguru ji ka khalsa, Vaheguru ji ki fateh! You probably noticed the banner called "SikhGiving Proj 2" on the right side of the forum menu bar. To those who don't know about SikhGiving.com; We (SikhSangat sewadars) started this small charity program last year to bring positive change back in Punjab. We introduce small scale projects with small targets and we spend 100% of the donation directly on the project with proof given on our website. SikhSangat Team will be working on the Project II, "Drug Awareness campaign" in punjab for two weeks. As we all recently reading sad/negative news, articles showing us that punjabi youths are getting ruined by the recent Drug Abuse, so our team decided to punch in and see what we can do to bring positive results. Our target is $500 and the deadline is August 1st. War against drug is sure very heavy task, thus we will be working with two Sikh Organization; UNITED SIKHS & Aapna Punjab for the long term project. Details of the projects can be seen at our website -> http://www.sikhgiving.com/drugs/index.html . If you have any question, please contact us -> contact@sikhgiving.com. Pls. visit SikhGiving.com and help us reach our target.. Thanks for our brothers and sisters who already donated ! So TODAY.... you can make the difference ! Help us Spread the Word Around ! Vaheguru ji ka khalsa, Vaheguru ji ki fateh!
