  1. What was wrong with the way he was doing simran? I personally enjoyed it! and so did many other people! He was doing it with meaning! The trend nowadays is the more loud and fast the simran - the better, even if it means not saying the word 'Vaheguru' properly, and the tabla banging to the max. So make me understand how that is good? The style he was doing simran was somewhat similar to the way Bhai Jasbir Singh Khanne wale used to do it - and your telling me he wasn't chardhikala? On the point of film tunes, old hindi songs used to be all written in raags, so if your are doing a shabad in that same raag it is somewhat likely that it will sound a bit similar. But copying 'giddy' tunes from recent times which are not in raag, and makes the recipient think of the song is not right. The shabad must be what we concentrate on. To recognise these you must have listened to them at some point in your life mate! Not mentioning any names but there are kirtani who use far more 'giddy' styletunes than Bhai Amolak Singh.
  2. This week!!!! 4 days to go!!!
  3. New post: http://www.sikhsangat.com/index.php?showtopic=32150 Please post any further posts in new post. many thanks.
  4. What issue are you talking about? WHy shouldnt we be happy? gursikhs sitting togather doing kirtan!!
  5. How can that be when they are already broadcasting the Sanjha Smagam? They have posted a note saying this themselves in the other thread!
  6. Yes exactly - the main principle of Guru Nanak NISHKAM Sevak Jatha is that of doing seva for free. The sad state of our panth today is that most Ragi jathay have lost this & wont do kirtan without money. At the end of the day its not the ragis make up there own lyrics or shabads which they recite, they just sing bani from Guru Granth Sahib Ji. So it is very sad that they are making 'free' money for this. Its like your selling guru sahib. Anyway as for Nishkam sevak jatha not letting other jathay do kirtan, that is rubbish. I was at a wedding a few weeks back at Soho Road, in which all the kirtan was done by AKJ. Bhai Amolak Singh (Aussie) has done kirtan any times there.
  7. Definately agree with 'Student of God'. I am pretty certain the jathas involved were informed about the Sanjha smagam quite a while back! Anywyas I think some of the ones named are also coming to Sanjha Smagam so all good!
  8. The venue will be large enough to cater for all the sangat. This program is not been done in a hall just for this time. This site has been bought for the purpose of events like this and a probably a future school. The site is under going many refurbishments to be ready for this particular occassion. And from the last post it looks like there hasn't been any meat or alcohol served there previously... Lets all support this effort to bring the panth under one umbrella!!
  9. If you are in Birmingham - try DTF on Soho Road.. In london try Sikh Missionary Society! In Toronto try Sacha Sauda. Also you can try at Reinsabhai kirtans they normally have stalls there. Toronto smagam is this week so you can try there!
  10. HA! extremist one word for u, you r a twat! I dont supposrt any party, they are both as bad as each other, but what i do support is unity in favour of community working together! Its Hindu's like you who split the kaum! What is so wrong with supporting unity? obviously you have a problem, so you must be the true President of the Shiv kumar or watever society u r on about!
  11. As per the post http://www.sikhsangat.com/index.php?showtopic=27446 it seems like there is a working group with reps from both sides trying to resolve the issues and enable the community to work together. IMHO this should be supposrted in order to allow the community to unite and deal withe real issues rather than fighting between ourselves.
  12. It would be interesting in finding out what they achieved by doin their little protest which didnt have more than few hundered people in it! At least if Himmat Sohi went to the RSS (im not saying he is right, by doing so) he doesnt hide the fact that he went. On the other hand Mr Manmohan Singh & party even after having pics of them with RSS leaders, go and deny it! That seems more fishy to mee! Sad state of affarirs that we cant work together. No point blaming govt agencies, we are to blame.
  13. I appreiciate the fact that we should get some santhiaa from someone who knows about gurbani. But the person who teaches Santhiaa is also teaching you to read gurbani how he/she reads it. Therefore you will be learning to separate words how they are teaching you. I am not saying this is wrong, but in the same way pad-chaed sarroops or senchiyaa are done by people like Prof Sahib Singh, Bhai Vir Singh who did have knowledge of gurbani. So my question is, isn't this the same? As per the original article, the only other way IMHO is to try reading it yourself, and you will separate the words according to your own understanding. Waheguroo ji ka khalsa, waheguroo ji ki fateh Your problem is Santhiya, you need to have santhiya from a gursikh who has had santhiya passed on to them. When reading Lareedar there needs to be 101% concentration. There are some rules that need to be contemplated in order to have shud and fluent path. Dont ask what the rules are becuase I think you need a teacher to pass it down. Waheguroo ji ka khalsa, waheguroo ji ki fateh
  14. Yeah maybe, but there is nothing wrong with trying! Without effort you get nothing! So rather than critisise, why don't you support a something good for a change!
  15. Press Release Re: 4th Feb AGM of Sri Guru Singh Sabha Southall. In his opening welcome to the general body, convened at 4.15pm at Park Avenue Gurdwara on Sunday 4th Feb 07, the president, Mr Himat Singh Sohi, thanked some members of the Sabha for their reconciliatory initiatives and announced that a Moving Forward Understanding had been reached between the executive and the Lion opposition group. He expressed his sincere wish to execute the measures put forward to resolve the conflict and discord that has seriously disrupted the progress of the Singh Sabha in Southall in the past few years. He undertook to reinstate the 8 expelled members of the Sabha. The general secretary, Dr PS Garcha, announced that there are constitutional problems that give rise to confrontation at election times and it has been agreed to formulate an independent 5 member committee to look at the issues surrounding membership recruitment and election process to introduce fairness and independency to the procedures and other problem areas. He praised the work of the reconcilers and that to win the confidence of all parties his committee would, as soon as possible, take the following initiatives: 1. Reinstate the 8 expelled members 2. Agree a memorandum of understanding to deal with all matters impacting negatively on the interests of the Sangat of Sri Guru Singh Sabha. 3. Form a working group, comprising of equal representation from both main groups and an independent person to draw up proposals intended for smooth and fair administration of the Sabha, such as: Introduce fairness, independency and transparency to the membership recruitment, election processes and the process of scrutiny of eligibility of the election candidates. Enhance the procedures in general to increase transparency and accountability of administration so that similar conflict does not arise. To address the complaints and grievances of members and deal with membership termination in accordance with a fair and open system so that everyone’s rights are properly protected. 4. To complete the above process by the August 2007 AGM so that the final approval of the General Body can be then obtained and measures implemented immediately after the meeting. Then Mr Bahadur Singh Kaila read out the accounts information followed by an address to general body from speakers from the Lion group. Harjit Singh Sarpanch requested that the 8 members should be reinstated forthwith as a measure of goodwill and that the General Body was the supreme body of the Sabha. He also said the understanding initiatives were good but he stressed the need to make the system fair as unfairness was the cause of discord in the Sabha. Sohan Singh Samra praised the reconciliation measures and thanked the committee and lion group members, GS Malhi, GS Thind, BS Dhillon, Jatinder Singh, for taking such a bold step for the better interests of the Sabha. He expressed a desire to help execute these measures immediately with utmost sincerity. Surinder Singh Purewal spoke on the accounts and raised several points where improvements could be made similar to taking up his proposals of tax rebates in the past. Some 600 members who showed utmost respect to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji attended this well-disciplined AGM and it was a pleasant change from previous tensions. It is hoped that with Waheguru Ji’s blessings that similar calm and brotherhood would produce good results for the Sikh Sangat of Southall.

  18. Waheguru Jee ka khalsa! Waheguru jee kee Fateh! The Manchester smagam was really good with the kirpa of Guru Sahib and the blessings of the sangat. I imagine that the recordings will be up asap on the same website on which it was broadcasted, www.gsghks.org.uk. The correct link is www.akj.org.uk, however the old website has now migrated with www.akj.org, and all the multimedia is slowly being transferred across. Waheguru Jee ka khalsa! Waheguru jee kee Fateh!
