    apanee'yaa'n gaal'n val dhiaan rakh...

uh peacemaker I don't understand punjabi written in english but this makes me thing this 'singh in something' is not a nice person - I think he insulted u right?

Anyways that link is durga.......I wanted Harnakash.....also I have a better durga pic! One of our Hindu Uncle's gave it to us. It was a huge poster where she is sitting on this HUGE LION. Looks so amazing and majestic.

My mum put it in a frame and hung it right infront of the first wall you see when you come to our house. It was so funny cos any hardcore sikh person who came to our house was stunned. They just wudn't stop staring at it!! Funny times. Loved seeing their facial expression of horror...lol.

  2. Did you guys know that aligators cannot do multiple snaps. It instead has to build up energy and then it does a huge snap. After that it waits till it builds up more energy to do another snap. I think its quite cool cos it explains why you don't see aligators snapping up on the water edge. Instead its get as close as to prey and do a big snap and if it misses its kinda doomed cos it has to wait to build enough energy by which time prey has ran away!

  3. I got my scrub assessment signed off, was so worried. Also this is shocking...I spoke to quite a few Sikhs at uni and they just take their kara off but I just could never do that....unless there was a real risk. Also Jangal Dal your story reminds me of how there was a devotee of the Guru who was walking along with his cattle. He passed the Gurdwara and really wanted to get the Guru's darshan but his cattle was with him. He then decided he would quickly go into the gurdwara whilst his cattle went ahead and afterwards he would catch up with them.

In the darbar he was eager to get his parshaad and leave. The person serving parshaad was informed of this and instead of giving him parshaad he ignored him. This carried on for a while and by now the man was concerned about where his cattle had reached and so he asked if he could have parshaad quickly. Instead of acknowledging his concerns the person serving started giving it to those who had come after him and decides to say to him 'emi bandar vang nachi jandya' ie why are u jumping around like a monkey....

My memory goes hazy now but later on the man serving parshaad is re-incarnated as a monkey. This goes to show what we see may not always be the case. However in relation to this kara stuff I like your story cos patients are always first but that doesn't mean I should just say i'll remove my kara when there is no real risk...or at least they should sort out the unfairness with the wedding ring issue. Anyways I'm happy I got my form done - also I never had any issues when I scrubbed up with the Reg or SHO so I reckon the team are okay with it. In this case I will erase the nasty comments of the scrub nurse from my memory!

PS - yea I think ure right as I have not seen a qualified Sikh doctor yet either! Actually its kinda weird since the stereotypical view is that all asians want to become 'doctors or lawyers'.

Actually the only Sikh person I met was the bed manager who had cut hair but she was so happy to see me. She told me how she recognised me from far away cos I wear a keskhi....we had a long in depth convo about how she wished she kept her hair too but how hard it is etc. It was kinda cool as it had the few odd punjabi words thrown in!! Oh and during ward round this random patient said kidhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa to me whilst the Reg was asking him questions...it was so beautiful lol....I love being me and most of all I love being a doctor....gonna go study now. Also thanks for the advice - I think I will speak to someone after my exams.

  4. I think we should discuss the differences between the British and American Healthcare later.

I would like to know about the laws for UK sikh medics. Msckan did you find any in your research??

I have a similar issue regarding kara. I am a medical student and I wear my kara all the time and until recently it did not cause me any problems. ie I have worn it in and out of theatre. I have even scrubbed with it on and pulled out some varicose veins!

However today I had to do my scrub assessment. I got told I have to take my kara off. I was told I have to make a choice between my 'bangle' and my career! She failed my scrub assessment because of that!! I'm going back in 2 hours to get someone else to do it - hopefully that lady will be off at lunch!

I am fairly frustrated as I have been trying to get my scrub assessment signed off for a week now and its wasting my time to wait around theatres to see who is free to watch me scrub. I am meant to be at my breast firm and I have exams in less than 3 weeks so this is the last thing I need. :(

Anyways I am not going to take my kara off because I don't believe its an infection risk. Its scrubbed and is up my arm covered by the surgeon's long sleeved gown (very different from those wearing wedding rings). Also I would like to add I used to wear 2 kara's before. One was the mala kara and the other one was a normal round kara. I personally took the decision to not wear a mala kara because I felt it was a risk due to its rounded beads being unscrubbable. However I continue to wear a normal kara as I believe it is not a risk. I actually think its unfair that people are allowed to wear their wedding rings and we have to take our kara off.

Also interestingly as a side when I was doing my BSc essay on ‘MRSA and its implications in Surgery’ I came across alot of papers regarding how growth and adherence of bacteria is affected by material and metal was considered a low risk....prehaps this is the reason the Guru said kara was meant to be of certain material?!

Anyways since I am not going to take my kara off - I need to know the right of Sikhs please. Can someone post the links to the organisations which represent sikh medics.

    Thanks.

btw I don't think my PM works....this is fairly troublesome at the moment as it means I cannot send or receive PM’s. S1ngh/lowest of the lowest penji if you read this can u please look into this as I get a message saying my PM function has been disabled.

  5. Am I the only one thinking the user meant attachment ie attachment to food tastes.....cos I don't see how you can have lust for food....So I don't think the title is meant to read LUST.

Also I am vegetarian and I haven't eaten chips for over 5 years now...there are lots more yummy veggie food about!!

  6. Its a Zen saying. They are used to focus ure mind on meditation by emptying your thoughts.... If anyone watches the Simpsons Lisa tries to do it to Barts in one of the episodes. I cannot even remember the proverb she used...something like if the trees fall in a wood is there sound if no one is there to listen to it...so its actually meant to make u think wat is sound etc...Bart didn't get this so Lisa had to keep changing proverbs till Bart was eventually zenned.....

This is the same. Althougth to be honest I read it and thought of me knocking on the sky and making thunder. Jokes ure not supposed to think that....Zen proverbs are actually supposed to make u think outside of normal to reach the other often neglected psyche in ure mind. Its really cool when that happens but it has to be experienced as words can never describe.

  7. Peacemaker I know u will read this cos u read every page.....I looked at ure profile cos I posted a comment! It however does not show up. So i tried again and again. Finally I decided to send u a PM and thats when I got a message saying writing COMMENTS and PMing people was disabled off my account.

So thats why I could not reply to ure messages!! It took me ages to work out why nothing was showing which is why I kept checking thinking it wud show up later. Anyways cos writing comments was working before I guess that other chatnga person did not like me writing on their comment page!

I shud have wrote on urs! Anyways to answer ure question....I am coming back in AUGUST...shall see u then!!!

  8. Penji I am really sorry to hear ure problems. In some aspects you are very lucky. You have found out early... Also ure condition is very common so u will meet and know other ppl who have it too!

Data shows that 30% of people have PCOS. So out of every 10 thats 3. Stay positive and I hope things work out. xx
