Sangat came from far and wide, everyone was loving it and above all, guru saahib looked AMAAAZING !! Vaheguru Jee Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Jee Kee Fateh!! The reason for this maryada implemented into the sanjha samagam was because there had to be some compromise with all the sangats/jatthas in the sanjha samagam. Since most of the Jattha's have a maryada that only Amritdhari Gursikhs/Rehitvaan Sikhs can do keertan, that is what was implemented. Almost all the keertanee's were Amritdhari, however there were a few that were not Amritdhari, but were Rehitvaan (meanin, keeping full rehit, but haven't taken that next step in Amrit). Although there are some that do not agree with this method of giving seva, the sevadars felt this was the best way to go for this samagam. That being said, I fully understand what you mean of not restricting anybody. And yes there are Amritdhari Sikhs who aren't perfect. When having a samagam like this, there are certain things that are difficult to get around, and there are certain things that will be done that some people don't agree with. Sevadars tried their best to have SANJH in this samagam, but at the same time, they know that not everybody can be pleased. This was our first Samagam, not only in Toronto, but in North America, so there will be some mistakes made or some concerns that are raised. Sevadars ask for forgiveness for anything that might have offended anybody or if there was any other mistakes made. We take everything out of this samagam as a learning experience and hope to make future samagams better and more representing of the entire panth. We encourage positive criticism of the samagam, sevadars would like to know what could be improved/corrected for next time. Next year our brothers and sisters in BC will be holding their First Sanjha Samagam as well, so any suggestions for next time would be great. As for the keertan seva format, I think this is the way the format will stay for all Sanjha Samagams (Amritdhari's and Rehitvaan Sikhs only for keertan seva) just because almost all jatthas/sangats have that maryada. And a sanjha samagam is supposed to represent all jatthas as much as possible, and supposed to unite everybody. please e-mail concerns/comments to torontosanjhasamagam@hotmail.com so we will know what things to improve for next time. bhul chuk maaf!
