Bhenji, why are you sad about your white hair? What is worse about a white hair than a black hair? And what is better about a black hair than a white one? How is this going to change your life? Guru Ji gives us strange gifts sometimes but they are gifts nevertheless. He gave Baba Buddha Ji the name Baba Buddha Ji, and Baba Ji embraced it. Embrace your white hair and give it as much care as you give to all the others. Otherwise it's just plain discriminatory. Sikhs are not taught to judge anything based on colour. At the end of the day it's all still your kes which was given and coloured by Guru Saheb.

    Be strong.

We are meant to be the soul brides, on our way to meeting with our Husband (Guru Saheb). In this shabad Guru Amar Das Ji is encouraging us (the soul brides) to avoid getting entangled in sexual desire. In this way our spiritual journey will be much more straightforward. The majority of us frequently battle with kaam, so Guru Saheb is directly addressing us - asking, 'Why are you full of desire? Remember your true Husband (Akaal Purakh) and think about what you will say when He asks you how much time you devoted to His worship.'

    Hope this helps.

Dianette does have a lot of side-effects but not everybody gets them. There are a lot of ifs/perhapses with any medication. The topic starter should probably consult a specialist who can advise her of her options properly.

  4. Kiranpreet Singh, you can probably tell that this issue is 'controversial' for many members and others. Many people have different opinions so I'd request everyone not to turn this into an argument thread which would end up needing to be closed. A lot of the time we just don't open our minds to understand or respect other people's beliefs. If you don't find your answer here do your own research or talk to people who know their stuff, then you can make up your own mind. Keep it clean and non-personal. Thank you : )

  5. When Satguru Siri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj was young he reached the age where little boys run about and play as much as possible. He and the other little boys used to get together in an alleyway and play there. Mama Kirpaal Das or any other dependable person of the household would always watch over the children. About a quarter of a mile away flowed the river Ganges. From time to time Mama Ji would go with the children to bathe in the river and afterwards they would go boating on the river. When bathing, Mama Kirpaal Ji would place Satguru Ji on a nearby pier or landing area of the river and bathe his nephew at the same time. When they went sailing on the river, he would place Satguru Ji in his lap.

One day, Satguru Siri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj was sitting in his Mama Kirpaal Ji’s lap like this. While they were in the little boat, the waters of the river began to get rougher and rise. Guru Sahib’s Mama Ji and the other people on the banks of the river began to get very confused and anxious about the rising level of water. All-knowing Satguru Ji sat on the edge of the little boat and hung one leg over the side. He dipped his foot into the water. The touch of Satguru Ji’s beautiful charan was enough to immediately calm the river and allow it to return to its original state. Seeing this occur, all those who were nearby were amazed. They recognised Satguru Ji as the embodiment of Akaal Purakh himself and bowed to him.

  6. Bahadur Shah Zafar, the Mughal emperor would visit Sahib Sri Guru Gobind Singh Jee Maharaj’s divan quite often. Whenever Gurujee would see him, He would smile and exclaim aloud “Dhann Guru Ram Das”. Bahadur Shah never figured out why, and so one day while sitting in the divan, he began to ponder upon this fact. Dasmesh Pitah Jee knew what was running in his mind, and asked him what he was thinking. Bahadur Shah replied “Sachey Patshah, You are the knower of all hearts and minds, You are antarjami. You know whats in my mind”.

Gurujee then began narrating a sakhi from the time when Sri Darbar Sahib was being constructed under the supervision of Sahib Sri Guru Ram Das Jee Maharaj. There used to be 2 kinds of workers, one were nishkaam sewaks who didn’t get paid, others were paid workers. Every evening after the day’s work was over, Sahib Sri Guru Ram Das Jee Maharaj would first come and meet the nishkaam sewaks, and shower His grace on each one of them. One day, a very old baba who used to do paid sewa stood in the queue of the nishkaam sewaks. Sahib Sri Guru Ram Das Jee Maharaj said to him “Baba, I think you are in the wrong line. You go to the paid workers queue, I will be coming there as well shortly”. The Baba said “No Maharaj, I’ve heard that your blessings are eternal. Today I want your blessings”. Sahib Sri Guru Ram Das Jee Maharaj was very pleased and blessed the Baba “Jaa Baba, tenu nihaal nihaal nihaal kita!”

Sahib Sri Guru Gobind Singh Jee Maharaj narrated this sakhi and went silent. Bahadur Shah asked Gurujee “Maharaj, what does this sakhi have to do with me?” Gurujee replied “Bahadur Shah, that old Baba was none other than you. You did nishkaam sewa for one day, and today you rule all of India. Who knows how many more janams you will be blessed with kingship”.

  7. I don't know much about blackmagic. The fact that he is worried these things are happening because of this friendship suggests that he feels guilty about being friends with her in the first place, or that he thinks it might be wrong. Obviously I can't read his mind but maybe that's something that he needs to take some time to break down and think about. Either way he should do what he feels is right.

  9. These two Sakhian were sent to me today.

    Bhai Gareebu

No one what Bhai Gareebu's real name was, but he was so poor that history has recorded his name as Bhai Gareebu. Once there was an announcement in his village that kaar sewa was going on at Sri Darbar Sahib, and so the sangat was encouraged to offer maya. Bhai Gareebu got excited and went home. He told his wife, but they were so poor that she had to infact broom the entire house to find money. At last she found just 1 kauddi. Bhai Gareebu was very happy that he had found atleast something. He took the kauddi and left for Sri Darbar Sahib with his family. When he did matha tek to Sahib Sri Guru Arjan Dev Jee Maharaj, he saw people had offered loads of maya, pearls, rubies, jewels and what not. "How can I place my kauddi amongst these?" He didn't offer anything and went at the back of the sangat and sat there with his eyes closed. One of the sewadaars asked Gurujee if they could go ahead and do the Ardas and end the divaan. Gurujee said that some more maya was left to be offered yet. The sewadaar asked again after a while and Gurujee gave the same response. Upon asking for the 3rd time, Gurujee said "My dear Sikh is feeling shy in offering, let me go and ask from him". Gurujee got up and walked through the sangat all the way to the back and called Bhai Gareebu. Bhai Gareebu couldn't believe his eyes. The Master of the universe standing right before him! Gurujee asked for the offering, and Bhai Gareebu said he was feeling shy seeing the multitude of wealth at Gurujee's feet. Gurujee said "In front of your love-filled kauddi, this wealth is nothing". Gurujee then went on to bless Bhai Gareebu with happiness both in this world and hereafter.

Bhai Palla (this is one of my favourites.)

Bhai Palla lived with his mother. Every morning, both mother and son would do Nitnem together, and then Bhai Palla would sing keertan for an hour, and then go to work. He said to his mother one day "Why doesn't Gurujee come visit us?" His mother said "Maybe our devotion is flawed". Bhai Palla then left for work. Later in the day, one of his friends told him that Gurujee was in their village. Bhai Palla's happiness knew no bounds, and he knew for a fact that Gurujee had come to see him and his mother. He rushed to the place where Gurujee was holding divaan. There were loads of sangataan doing darshan of the Patshah of Miri Piri. Bhai Palla didn't receive his wages that day, and all he had to offer was a small piece of gurr wrapped in a cloth. He started opening the knots, and Gurujee saw him from a distance. Gurujee said "Give it to me, let me open your knots for you". At this point of time while typing/reading this out, one needs to wonder the fact that someone infact had Gurujee open up his knots. These knots are not merely knots of the cloth, but the knots that we tie ourselves in, our minds and souls in, and then make life miserable. What a bliss it would be to see Gurujee open them up! Gurujee opened the knots, and had the gurr, and said "Yours is the most sweet offering I've had today". Bhai Palla folded his hands and begged Gurujee if he could bring his mother for darshan as well. Gurujee said "Palleya, I have myself come to visit her at your place". Bhai Palla said "Gurujee, please be seated on your horse, I shall hold the reins (lagaam) and walk alongside". Gurujee said "No Palla, we won't go like this". Bhai Palla said "Then how Gurujee?" Gurujee said "We will hold arm-in-arm and walk till your house like friends". Everyone was astonished to see Gurujee walking this way with a severely poor man wearing dirty and tattered clothes.

How many of you have moist eyes after reading this much of Bhai Palla's story? I do after typing it up. Bhai Palla's mother was getting worried as to what was taking him so long today. Bhai Palla came and said to his mother "Look who is here!" She was very old and shed tears of joy on seeing Gurujee at her place. They were so poor (in financial terms only) that all they had to offer Gurujee was a parshada with an onion. Gurujee said "I don't want to have this". Bhai Palla said "Maharaj, we are very poor. This is all we have, please have it". Gurujee said "No Palla, I want that what you give me daily". Bhai Palla said "But Maharaj, you've come here for the very first time!" Gurujee said "No Palla. I am here daily when you sing keertan. I want to have keertan!" Bhai Palla then did keertan. Gurujee was very pleased and showered His grace on both Bhai Palla and his mother.

  10. if this rings any bells.... plss post the sakhi here

A devout Gurmukh Bhai Gurbachan Singh Ji lived in a village near Jagram. All his newly born children died at the age of 2 to 3 years. Once few Singhs posted the question, "When the young ones of devout like you keep dying, what will become of ordinary people". Bhai Sahib replied that all those children were saintly beings or gods and goddesses in their previous births. They were born just to receive the bounty of Amrit. Son thereafter, they kept departing.? His wife was a listener to the talk. She was having an infant daughter then. She resolved not to subject the girl to Imbibing Amrit, so that at least she could live. Whenever the occasion arose for Amrit Smagam and Bhai Sahib broached the topic, his wife would make some excuse for absenting. The girl grew up to woman-hood and it was time for marriage. The girl grew up to woman-hood and it was time for marriage. Bhai Sahib again talked about Amrit imbibing that became mandatory before the marriage. This time the wife could not avoid any more. The daughter was administered Amrit. Few days later, the marriage was celebrated with all the attendant family joy, but the girl departed for Gurpuri, Eternal Abode in the midst of celebrations.

    http://www.sikhsangat.com/index.php?showtopic=36193

Before reading the sakhi below could I request all Sikhs of Dhan Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj to post stories about Satguru Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj for the next few weeks? As Sikhs of that Guru we are meant to follow our Guru’s footsteps and if we don’t even know where he walked how can we follow him? So please even if it’s a very well known sakhi please post so we can all learn something about our beautiful friend, father, king and guru.

The topic has only had 3 Sakhian posted in reply since Sunday. It feels like we are all really keen to make jokes or watch videos on youtube but when it comes to discussing or sharing our own history there are so few people to be seen. We look at others and tell them off for being immature or making useless 'non-sikh'/'relationship' topics but then we ourselves don't make the effort to change the forum. If we don't even have time for this then why do we get angry when Governments try to burn our historical records? We are the sons and daughters of Siri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj but nowadays it feels like stones will bleed before our generation's foundation of their family history is solid. This is a plea not to let that happen at least not on Sikhsangat. Even though it's 'only an internet forum', it's a forum that a lot of people spend time on and while we're on it Guru Saheb can still see what we type and how much time we really devote to Sikhi.

I'm very sorry in advance if you feel what I have said is negative or lecturie but I am upset that as a whole we only know 3 Sakhian of our King. So please try to take just 5 or 10 minutes from your day to share what you know about Satguru Siri Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

    Thank you : )

  12. vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh

Kabīr sāṯ samunḏeh mas karao kalam karao banrāė.

Kabeer, if I could change the seven seas into ink and make all the vegetation my pen,

Basuḏẖā kāgaḏ jao karao har jas likẖan na jāė.

and the earth my paper, even then, I could not write the Praises of the Lord.

In this Salok Bhagat Kabeer Ji tells us that trying to describe or write down all the qualities of Guru Saheb is too huge a task to ever be done. He says that even if he had enough ink to fill all the seas, every tree or forest in the world to make his pens, and enough paper to cover the whole earth, even then it couldn't be done.

Many different people in the world try to attain spiritual wisdom and enlightenment through many different ways. Some sit on mountains, some meditate in forests, some stand upside down or balanced on one finger. Some inhale and exhale in special ways and others take dips at many holy places or rivers. Many people aren't interested in Godliness or worship at all. Guru Arjan Dev Ji Maharaj tells us that:

    ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਨ ਬਿਸਰੁ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਮਰਥ ॥

With each and every breath, may I never forget You, O God, Almighty Lord and Master.

How can my tongue describe Your countless virtues? They are uncountable, and forever indescribable.

    (Ang 502)

This is the ultimate supplication; Guru Ji tells us to meditate on Akaal Purakh with every ounce and fibre of our being, never forgetting his greatness. Gurbani is the key to understanding this and with understanding comes love. Love is what makes us get up in the morning to do our Nitnem, love is what makes a mother want to stay up all night and look after her sick child, and love is what spurs on the continuous remembrance of Vaheguru Ji's name. Another shabad comes to mind which describes the state of mind a person has after being pierced with our King's beautiful arrow of love.

The Word Of Naam Dayv Jee, Raamkalee, First House:

    ਹਸਤ ਬਿਨੋਦ ਬੀਚਾਰ ਕਰਤੀ ਹੈ ਚੀਤੁ ਸੁ ਗਾਗਰਿ ਰਾਖੀਅਲੇ ॥੨॥

She laughs, and plays, and talks with her friends, but she keeps her attention focused on the pitcher of water.

The cow is let loose, out of the mansion of the ten gates, to graze in the field.

It grazes up to five miles away, but keeps its attention focused on its calf.

Says Naam Dayv, listen, O Trilochan: the child is laid down in the cradle.

Its mother is at work, inside and outside, but she holds her child in her thoughts.

    Ang 972

Now is the time to nurture and cherish that type of love in our hearts.

If anyone else has anything more to add to this then please do because I couldn't think of very much to say. Which I suppose is the point of the whole Salok : )

  13. vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh

Maybe im making too much out of this?

You're not, and thanks to Rupinder Singh for letting non-londoners know about this article. Although I don't know Dabinderjit Singh I'm impressed that he's standing up for what he believes in e.g. with the issue of Indira Gandhi's assassination.

It’s time for discussion and representation and good PR, we need to be professional about our agendas and project it effectively if we wish to be taken seriously.

It seems like the Sikh community as a whole needs some good shock treatment to wake up. Even though the article is by a critic who usually writes against Ken Livingston, it should still serve as an alarm bell for us. There currently seems to be very little structure to the way we react to such allegations/statements, partially because there is very little unity in the panth. Even after this we will probably spend more time arguing over our differences than actually focusing on an effective strategy. After a few days it seems we forget anything even happened and go back to whatever we were arguing about on the forum previously.

Another issue as KSingh82 highlighted is the media and its clever way of twisting nearly everything a Sikh can say. I remember an interview on TV about hate crimes associated with the fear of terrorism on Sikhs; the Singh being interviewed was extremely professional and articulate but the broadcaster has chosen bits and pieces of the interview to show. When the Singh mentioned using the kirpan as a last resort for defence, his statement was taken completely out of context and the resulting, edited interview made it sound like Sikhs immediately stab all approaching opponents when intimidated.

  14. Guru Gobind Singh Ji's Arrows

Narad Muni (not the one who meditated with Bhagat Prehlad Ji) was a bhramgyani. He once visited Satguru Siri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj and presented him with the feathers of a "Humayu" bird. Guru Ji tied each feather to five arrows, strung them on a bow and shot them in all four directions and one up into the heavens. He asked his Gursikhs to go and look for the arrows he had fired. They looked hard but couldn't find them and so returned empty-handed to their Guru. Guru ji then explained to the Gursikhs that he had been presented with the feathers of the Hamuyu bird by Narad Muni Ji, and this bird of the sky had power in all its body parts. Guru Ji explained whatever was attached to the parts of that bird, the bird was able to take away to its own haven. Guru Ji was describing that just as the Humayu's feather had taken the arrows to the bird's sanctury, Mool Mantar, Gur Mantar and Gurbani also worked like those feathers except they could take people to the sanctuary of God. So whosoever recites these and practises on his Naam, those Gursikhs will eventually find bhramgian and be carried to the country of parbrahm(God), the one which is above the entire universe. To obtain God one should have strong faith and determination.

  15. vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh

"How did you get that black eye?" asked Guru-Father, GurDev-Pita Gobind Singh Jee. The teenager dressed in a long blue gown, wearing a sword looked at his Master's feet and responded with silence.

The King of this World and the next, radiated glory in all directions and the lovelight washed over the quiet young man, "Dear child of mine, your turban has been knocked, your nose is bleeding and you have a black eye. Now you don't get that from just cleaning the stables. So I order you to tell me who did this to you?"

The slender young warrior continued looking lovingly at the Master's feet and humbly replied, 'I was feeding the horses Guru jee when you suddenly slapped me.'

The Khalsa warrior who had brought the young Singh in to Guru Jee's royal court quickly interrupted, 'O Guru with the Royal Plume Kalgee-Dhar Patshah, True King and Cherisher of the Poor, Gareeb Nivaaj, this saintly boy will not tell you, but I saw that mighty Singh over there just walk across to the boy and without even uttering a word he swung his arm with full force landing his palm on the boy's right cheek. Guru Maharaj forgive my younger brother for his answer , he is not lying for he sees your face in everyface, everywhere and all the time. He speaks little and is always engrossed in service and meditation, seva and simran. He was attacked for no reason, that is why I dragged him here to get some justice. He did not want to complain.'

Some warrior Nihangs dressed in blue battle clothes, grabbed the Singh accused of the attack and escorted him into Guru King Guru Gobind Singh Jee's divine prescence.

'Explain your actions.' ordered the Helper from Waheguru, Nasaro Mansoor Guru Gobind Singh Jee.

The Singh was built like a mountain with an ego to match he replied in rough voice 'Guru Jee, this boy is half my age, everyday he does seva and simran, he speaks little and when he does its full of love and humility. I can't stand him. Everyday I do seva along side him, I see how much you love him and bless him, wereas I get no look of grace. He was getting too close to you and I hate him. I had to teach him a lesson!'

Guru Gobind Singh Jee reprimanded the Singh and gave him some community service to do, then he got up and hugged the young Singh who was still looking at the Master's feet, 'Dhan GurSikh, Great is the GurSikh who even in suffering accepts it as a divine gift.'

    Ketia Dukh Bukh saad mar.

    Eh Bhee Daat Teree Datar.

Countless many continously suffer pain and hunger.

O Giver, Even these are Your Gifts'

(Guru Nanak Dev Jee in Jap Jee Sahib).
