  1. If there is translation then people will learn they beauty of Sikhi and will come to understand it, and will encourage them to learn Gurmukhi for the original writing. The Gurus spoke spoke many different languages and wrote Kirtan in a modern type music to encourage the teachings of the lord, there is nothing wrong with this. We can learn from other faiths who have propogated their religions around the world by using the comman mans language. that is after all what the Gurus did, they used the language of the simple poor man. There are two types of people, the first are the people who are lucky enough to have learnt about Sikhi. Perhaps they had been born in Sikh families, maybe they learnt about Sikhi from school, the internet or by accident. They can help themselves and come to the Sangat for enlightenment. Of course they need help but they are atleast on the right path. Then there are those that are lost, they are lost in their lives they need the help of Waheguru. If we can do something to help them then why not? We can give them the gift of Sikhi, of Gurbani. So why should we not???
  2. There is a verse by Bhai Gurdassji when comparing the differences of Guru Hargobindji and previous Guru's. It goes something like this, "People say the former Gurus used to sit in the temple; the present Guru remaineth not in place. The former Emporers used to visit the former Gurus; The present Guru was sent into the fortress by the emporer. In former times the Gurus Darbar could not contain the sect; The present Guru leadeth a roving life and feareth nobody. The former Gurus sitting on their thrones, used to console the Sikhs; the present Guru keepeth dogs and hunteth The former Gurus used to compose hymns, listen to them and sing them, the present Guru composeth not hymns. not lisenth to them." The hymn was to reflect the changes going through Sikhi i.e. it's militarisation. But it makes it quite clear Sri Guru Hargobind ji kept dogs. Dasme Paatshah kept Elephants and Hawks, Sikhs were attached to their horses also, so like mentioned by previous poster why would another of the Lord's creations be discriminated? People do say this is right or wrong, or against Sikhi or not. But we need to be able to understand why, we can ask questions. There is a Sakhi where Guru Gobind Singhji on his travels salutes a shrine of some Saint or another, clearly this is against Sikhi and his Khalsa companions questioned the Master. He explained to them that he didn't want a dumb Khalsa but those who truly understand the ways of a Sikh, so was testing them. As a result of his actions the Khalsa reprimanded Guruji and sentenced him to some sort of appropriate punishment. After all "The Guru is the Khalsa, and the Khalsa is the Guru"
  3. Bijla Singh, My brother, you posted a very important and relevant article, and I am simply giving you my opinion. It is good for Sikhi if people appreciate different views this will enable all angles to be covered. Although you make some excellent points of the survival of Sikhi during turbulent times, im my opinion it would not be wise to base a nation on events hundreds of years ago. We need good leaders, be they religious or temporal, that will benefit the Sikh's now and when or if Khalistan is created.
  4. Why are these dark days called riots??? Riots are events such as people looting shops for food, or angry football supporters clashing with police. What happened on those wintry nights were massacres and persecution!!! LEST WE FORGET!!! HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF, FIRST AS TRAGEDY, SECOND AS FARCE- KARL MARX
  5. Although I have no expertise on the matter of the economy of Punjab or a possible Khalistan, I am of the opinion said nation will may well benefit economically by staying within the republc of India. The Tiger economy of India is booming and although it has often been said that Punjab has been left out of this boom there has been nonetheless splashes of investment in the state. For example there are multi-national companies who have opened factories in the Punjab and no doubt these companies will move to India if Khalistan is formed. Staying within India will give more opportunity for investment, and will also encourage experience of business for Sikh youth. It is also my opinion though that there may well be discrimination against Sikh's and other minorities groups when it comes to procurement of contracts and other areas of investment. I am sure those who do not agree with my last comment may decide to cite Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as an example, although no doubt he is regarded as a worldly renowned economist he only became Prime Minister by chance rather than his exceptional abilities.
  6. The recent film "Ab tumare hawale hain watan Sathiyo" was a great depiction of the sacrifice Sikh's have made for the safety and security for our country. Films like this show Sikh's in a good light and as such should be supported. Film makers have generally been reluctant to show Sikh characters, as a great number of the Indian population may not be able to relate to them, the Southern Indian's in particular due to the lack of Sikh population in the South. It is therfore our duty to go and watch movies where Sikh's are portrayed in a good light and encourage our friends and families to watch them also. Doing so will show the film makers there is a great demand to show the achievements Sikh's have made. Watch movies in a legal fashion though, do not buy pirate d.v.d's as these are often made by gangland elements in India. Terrorist organisations like Al-Qaeda, and Kashmiri terrorists also work in this market to fund their operations, and such organistions hold great enimty towards us Sikh's. Because they know, had it not been for our ancestors India would have long fallen to the hands of the Mughal's.
  7. The stuff on Bollywood may not be such a bad thing as people may pick the paper up to read about the latest movies and then they will see the stuff about the great Sikh religion and culture.
  8. Kalyug is all around us in the sense that many Sikh's have forgotten about their great religion and the traditions set by our Guru's. Many Sikh men choose not to grow their hair simply because it is difficult to manage, how pathetic is that! Many foolish Sikh girls say they do not want to marry Singh's who grow their kesh, how sad is that! Once upon a time we used to face great persecution from the like of the Mughals, we fought them and defeated them but now we have this simple enemy and we are losing the war against him. The enemy is the vanity we are surrounded by. Kesh is very important brothers and sisters let us not ever cut them away. A child wants to play all day, he does not think of anything else. As far as the bactha is concerned there is nothing to life but his games. However he then grows older and wiser and realises he should've paid more attention in school. He realises as much as playing was fun he could've become a better and more successful person if he had studied harder rather than playing games in the park or truanting off school. We need to see ourselves in that same perspective we need to realise that wearing a Turban may not make us more attractive to some people, but that in it self is not a major concern. It may seem important to us but believe me that as we grow older and wiser we will look back at our teenage years and laugh at the fact we paid that much attention to boys and girls. Not only will we laugh but we will cry in angusih if we give in to our fears and cut off our glorious hair. We will realise that the rule of Guruji is far important to us than any kind of silly dating game. Ju st as a child only wants to play all day, just as an addict only thinks of his next fix, that is just how some of us are trapped in the illusion that growing Kesh is not important to us. Remember brothers and sisters if today we cut off our Kesh today we will only regret our foolish decision for years to come. Even if we are lucky we will only live on this planet for seventy to a hundred years. But the life the Satguru wants to give us is eternal, let us not waste it all away in the pursuit of the silly illusion of Maya.
  9. Smart Singhji, What diservice have the people at Sikh times done can you please clarify a little?
  10. http://www.thesikh-times.co.uk/ The Sikh times is a great medium for us Sikh's. It writes the news important for us and publicises the issues which we hold dear. It is our duty to support such services and we should what we can. Everyone please try tyo buy the newspaper on a regular basis. If you local newsagent doesn't stock it then ask them to order it for you, if the service is available arrange the newsagents to have it deliverd to you and encourage your family and friends to do the same. Please support such causes as this will bring people back into Sikhi.
  11. My friends what is inside is indeed important but that doesn't mean we neglect the outside. The Sikh Guru's in their eternal wisdom told us we must keep our Kesh unshorn and we musn't ever tear them of our bodies. Keep our kesh long and beautiful, it is a gift from our lord from our creator, and giver. Today we will cut off our Kesh, then tomorrow we will not visit the Gurudwara because we will say God is within so why go to the temple. Then we will stop praying, and before we know it we will not be Sikh's at all. We will just be all what is bad in our society. There is no point of just pretending we are good inside, to be good we need to grow our hair, visit the Gurudwara and do seva. Help the poor and needy and worship our God and follow the rules he has set out for us.
  12. I've had intellectual conversation with a number of people on the channel 4 website and as a result, many people have learnt about Sikhi. We need to behave in manner relevant to Sikhi, use our brains first, let us not get excited and attack other faiths. Muslim's and Christians have used the internet as an excellent medium to spread their faith, we can do it too!!!
  13. Here is the link for the home page. http://community.channel4.com/eve/ubb.x?a=...57&f=8476000511 My friends that particular forum does have a few idiots but there also a great deal of intelligent and sopisticated people who take part in it. Therefore I think it is a good place to teach people about the goodness in Sikhi, especially when the government of India has managed to give us such a bad name around the world. Also much damage has been done by negative media reports about the Air India bombing as well as the violent display at the Birmingham theatre. That particular thread has been deleted but I'm not happy about them deleting it though, they could've just edited the offending comments. I had written a post which took me quite some time about Guru Gobind Ji and that has been deleted aswell, so i've written a post to complain. http://community.channel4.com/eve/ubb.x?a=...11&m=4740069921
